I'm a foodie and have been going here on and off for years.
..latest visit we noted $47 for a snapper fish and chips...Shed 5 across the way does a 55 day old aged Beef fillet for $48.!...overall overpriced and average food with poor service...plenty of other places in Wellington that are far superior..

Sadly sunny days and great service to compliment innovative food are all fond memories of long gone days. Today's Dockside is a poorly staffed bar, with average food, poor service trading on a name built decades ago. So disappointing
Be the first to ReplyService was a bit slow and indifferent.
The appetizers were great, but the ice cream was grainy and crystallized, like it had been thawed and refrozen. The ambiance was great, but the food didn't live up to the environment or prices.

We booked the 7 course tasting menu based on the delicious items that we saw on the website. We arrived and were seated at a beautiful table near the window, with a view of the harbor. Things started out fine, a bit rushed with the pacing. Then, things started to go off the rails. Our very young and inexperienced waiter, Zach, was absent and had too many tables to tend to and left us for way too long in between courses. Our food sat (and died) in the expeditor window within our full view on more than one occasion. The meal lasted for over 3 hours, and we finally asked another server to bring our last few courses. Anyway, suffice it to say, the restaurant is producing some pretty good food, but it is being spoiled by the lack of experienced service staff. Although Zach thought he was doing a great job. Hopefully he will learn about fine dining one day. We asked to talk to the manager, but he ran and hid in the bathroom, according to the bartender. Save your money and go somewhere else. Truly a disappointment and not the way to spend a special evening.
Be the first to ReplyCocktails are way too expensive for what you get.
Also the softdrinks got more ice than coke. Service was kind, but too slow. I would not recommend it. 2 stars for the nice view.
Be the first to ReplyBest oysters I've had in my life.
Excellent meal overall. Steak was delicious. The dishes are definitely elevated and well balanced.
Be the first to ReplyFood and service were okay but I must say that the food
Food and service were okay but I must say that the food portions were rather startling at times for the prices they charge. For example, $23 NZ for a calamari and soft shell crab appetizers which consisted of three pieces of calamari and three 1/2 little piece of crab. With three of us dining, we each got one calamari and half of a small crab. $16 NZ for a coconut cake which turned out to be a long straight, thin sliver of a cake. Our jaws dropped in surprise. Really? If I could give it 2.5 stars, I would but I'll round up since the ambience of the place was very nice.
Be the first to ReplyCame by here for a group dinner.
The place is quite cool and has nice views of the harbor. The problem is that the food was just not very good at all. I had the salmon, quite bland and very odd to have a salad before with so much fennel in it.
Be the first to ReplyWent for the 'express' lunch menu but hadn't realised it
Went for the 'express' lunch menu but hadn't realised it was actually the ' hurry up and eat and get out menu' !! Served with a delicious sharing platter to start and we were enjoying this with a wine. Halfway through eating it our mains arrived. When I asked the server why we got them while we are still eating our starter she said "it's because it's an express menu." We questioned the manager later, asking why we were not asked when we wanted our mains, or at least made aware they would be served 5 minutes after the starter. He told us the fast service was implied in the name. I said it would have been nice to have that explained at the start...his response was "maybe". NOT GOOD ENOUGH DOCKSIDE. Our meal was rushed, we were made to feel unwanted and half the starter platter was wasted. I noticed a few other tables experiencing the same and leaving the platter - what a waste of food. My lamb was tasty but fatty and cold onion rings on top, my partners fish & chips mediocre, our friends both had chicken (delicious) but slightly oily risotto. Might have gone back and tried food again as lovely venue, but slack 'don't give a damn' attitude puts me right off.
Be the first to ReplyI chose to come here on my last night in Wellington.
How I wish I had discovered it on my first! The wine, bar snacks, etc was all delicious and the wait staff could not have been more perfect. The shinning star of the evening? The Scampi and Calamari entree. Holy crow! My only complaint, it's not a main dish portion. The calamari was cooked to perfection. The lychee fruit was a perfect textual and sweet aspect that just completed this dish. It is a must!!
