Duryea's Montauk Reviews from The Last Year
Such a cute place! I visited the hamptons this past summer
Such a cute place! I visited the hamptons this past summer and it was recommended for me to try this place. I absolutely loved it. I tried a couple different oysters and the Beausoleil were truly the best! Easily the best oysters I've ever had. The view is really nice as the restaurant is right on the dock. The service was also nice. Everyone was so friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone in the area!
25th July 2023 we are here With Dr.
Hank Schmidt Definitely coming back Highly recommend
Friendly greeting and wonderful outside table.
Food was delicious and service was perfect. Great long lunch!

Waited almost an hour and a half, everyone that came before and after had eaten and left. We had 5 people so I guess that was the issue.... no biggie, it was Labor Day weekend, and it was to be expected, but noticed that the hostess was seating people who just walk in, and one guy tried to give the hostess money. She saw that I was watching, and quickly denied the "tip." We were disgusted, so we left. No way to treat people who live here....
This place is definitely worth the hype that it gets.
You cannot beat the view! It is right on the water. We came at 5:30 on a Saturday night and had to wait two hours, but it didn't seem that long. We had plenty of time to walk down the dock to take pictures, and we were able to sit at a table inside. We ordered some wine and an appetizer while we waited. The food was delicious! I recommend the lobster Cobb, calamari, and lobster roll. We didn't realize we were sitting at our table a bit long, so one of the workers politely asked us to get up from our table, as they had 150 people still waiting. She gave us a FREE bottle of wine! It was very nice. 10/10 recommend!
Beautiful way to end the summer.
Sitting by the water enjoying some really delicious bites! The drinks were also very good. We order so much damn food lmao! Check the pictures out! If you are with a group of 4+ I recommend the lobster Cobb salad! Such a great table starter. The tuna dishes are also a great way to open up to anything else you may order! Enjoy the view, the service is also great. Can't wait to come back via the ferry which leaves right next to the restaurant!

The lobster roll is excellent - and expensive, at $45, but this is the Hamptons after all, beware! Not sure what they put in this, it's a one-of-a-kind experience. Maybe it does not have quite the refinement of the roll you'll get at The Bernardin in New York City or the pure freshness slash taste bud capital delight the roll you'll get at Neptune Oyster in Boston's North End, but it's truly an enjoyable ride. No need to order French fries with it by the way, the roll comes with chips that are good enough (but nothing to write home about) and not too salty. This said, the French fries make for another feast. The portions are massive and potatoes light and tasty. We did not order salads, but those likewise come in huge quantities and are quite appealing to the eye. Guests seemed to love them. The grilled swordfish with market veggies ordered by another party also looked delicious; we may consider next time. Not everything's nearly as good, though. The clam chowder was a disappointment, as was a shrimp dish, which my wife returned. Management was quick to take it off the check, and service was overall impeccable. The ambiance is pleasant and rather soothing, with drapes in lieu of a roof, all or at least most tables have great views of the surrounding waters, and you could nearly go for a swim between dishes. There is docking for customers only, on a first come, first served basis. The largest boat the restaurant can accommodate is 140 ft (mine is a Camray, no sweat!). Ridiculous prices.
Ridiculous people. Great view. OoI guess you need to know what you want. There's so much attitude at this place. Squeezed into white jeans and worn with a pastel shade linen shirt. It doesn't get any more wannabe than this spot. One drive by and you'll know if it's for you.
Their service is a crap.
My best friend & I went there on a Tuesday night for dinner and they didn't entertain us. They just let us stay at the bar. AND THE WAITERS JUST KEEP PASSING US BY, TRYING TO GET THEIR ATTENTION BUT NOTHING. The host told us to go the bar straight. We left after 15mins minutes.

Yeah, you know what kind of place it is when you see the "small" yacht dock for lunch. In addition to the yacht, the gorgeous surroundings for the outside seating look nothing like anything you have sat down at in the area. (Including Harvest) So, don't be surprised when you get punched in the face with prices or a long wait. For those coming here for dinner, the way you navigate around the "no reservations" is by buying a bottle of wine and sitting in the park across from the building waiting for your cell phone to ring saying your table is ready. There has got to be a better way around that! For me, I would pay to reserve a table... anyway, instead of doing that, just come here for lunch and wait in the forming line for the noon opening. You do not need to get here that early, but the place fills up so fast you cannot be late either. The first thing you will notice that seems to contradict the surroundings is how you order. You fill out a menu, bring it to the counter, pay, and then wait for the food to be brought table side. I really don't know how that extra glass of wine would work mid-meal so plan ahead. The food itself is divine. The Duryea's Lobster Cobb Salad is an absolute must! Hmmm.... did I say divine? Well, it is if you don't get the New England Clam Chowder. That is an absolute pass. Some may like it. However, if you are looking for a heavy cream version steer away from this disaster. The other odd thing about the menu is that most everything on it is meant to be shared. This is true that I believe this place is best experienced with four people minimum. Two people will work but unless you get a couple of the items on the menu that are single serve you will be sharing one menu choice for the meal.
Love the lobster salad! Great experience!
Fantastic lobster Cobb salad. Expensive at $95, but will easily feed 3 people and has more lobster than 3 lobster tolls at other places. Gorgeous deck and views. Chill elegant vibe with rustic accents. Great experience!
St Barts in the Hamptons
If you’re looking for a fun spot with a very pleasant water view and good food, you can’t beat Duryea’s in Montauk. The atmosphere is beach casual chic, reminiscent of St. Barts or the South of France. The lobster roll is fantastic and always my favorite. However, because it is so popular, be prepared for a long wait, especially on weekends. My only complaint is that I don’t like the system of ordering and paying by which you fill out your order at the table, take it inside yourself to the register and pay (including tip) BEFORE you ever receive the food or have a chance to assess the wait staff’s level of service. As a consequence, wait staff have no real incentive to go above and beyond. I’ve never had a serious problem with the wait staff there, but have had some who were better than others, but had no ability to adjust my tip accordingly (either up or down). I understand this system might be more efficient for the restaurant, but it’s flawed from the customer’s perspective.
The Salad
The Lobster Salad here is the best main course in The Hamptons. There is no competition. The view at sunset is also excellent.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
