To Go! So sad that this has happened to such a favorite spot to stop and grab the rarest of the rare in NYC...a deep dish pizza. Yes, DEEP is a round lasagna but despite a life time of love for NYC style, emmetts is a guilty pleasure. Until yesterday. Called in my usual mid-size deep dish cheese and told to pick up in 20 mins. HMMM...that was the first sign. When has a REAL deep dish pizza been ready in 20. Well, I got there in 30 and YES, it was ready. Or so I thought. Got home to find a dense pile of uncooked cheese on a thick goey "crust" with none of the usual fluffy joy or the DEEP part of the DEEP DISH experience. Tasted like a rubber foot. Sent a message directly...no response. So it seemed like a good idea to share here. Just so sad that a favorite of mine for years has gone the route of so many POST COVID NY restaurants...fast and efficient...MOVE EM OUT. Who cares if we never come back.

Loved it more as a dine-in than a carry-out for sure! My husband surprised me with dinner here for my birthday last year with friends and I was pleasantly surprised at how well they did a Chicago deep-dish, considering that's where I'm originally from and have eaten for years. Their tavern-style pizza is also excellent! We shared the cheesy garlic bread as a table and that was also well-made. The second time I ordered from here was a take-out, and I won't be doing that again. They did a great job making the food and packing it, but it didn't travel as well as I hoped it would and we had to reheat in the oven and it changed the texture quite a bit. The flavors were still good though! Service has always been great here whether dining in or carrying out, so for that I'm grateful. We didn't eat inside the restaurant when we went last year, but they have a nice outdoor patio that's heated and they were able to accommodate a table for 5 even though it was a bit tight. As for the actual order: Cheesy garlic bread - 5/5 BYO Deep Dish - Hot giardiniera and fresh garlic - 5/5 Thin Crust - Nadine - 5/5 BYO Thin Crust - Bell pepper and onion - 5/5, but be warned that the vegetables come out chopped big, which I love, but my MIL did not Neither the deep dish or the thin crust carried out well, but the thin crust did taste good as left overs the next day!

I ordered the Italian beef sandwich and honestly my fat a$$ was like I forgot to tell them I wanted the ITALIAN BEEF SANDWICH not slider when I tell you looks can be deceiving or it could have been ordering while hungry the hand cut fries didn't stand a chance well seasoned crispy on the outside soft inside were inhaled I unwrapped the sandwich dipped it into the gravy and immediately walked into the next room and slapped my momma for holding out on this tenderness that I had to write a review from my hospital bed my mom didn't take it too lightly being smacked over a sandwich and although I didn't get to finish it the 3 bites were well worth the broken fingers sidebar rather than slapping your momma just get her a damn sandwich as well at least you'll get to enjoy it and she wouldn't be telling you how good it is while waiting for the ambulance to arrive
Be the first to ReplyThe food did not come to my taste.
We did a "char" cheddar Burger, and a half-half "sausage lover" + "the big -O" deep dish pizza. We ask for medium rare burger but came to almost well done(look at the picture). It's juicy, but lack of beefy flavor that I am looking for in a burger. And the green pepper in the patty just made no sense to the burger. This is my first time trying the deep dish pizza, therefore there is no comparison for me to measure whether it was a good deep dish pizza. I could only say that I like the cookie-like crunchy crust. However the topping and cheese just short in flavor. I could only taste the tomato sauce. I would say I love the authentic New York pizza in those hyped pizzerias more than this. It's a small restaurant. However, there is no line in a Sunday afternoon around 3:00.

We got patio seating outside and it was pretty warm with the heaters. I decided to try their Deep Dish Pizzas since I missed out my chance on trying it in Chicago. It was pretty good but this was definitely a heavy pizza. This Buds For You ($29) - lots of veggies (contains spinach, mushrooms and onions). Well flavored however I still preferred the Meat Lover more. It was more cheesy and I just like meat better. 3 STARS Meat Lover ($33) - lots of meat. Pepperoni, sausage, Italian beef. Very cheesy. I would order this again. 4 STARS. One pie is more than enough for 2 people. We had to packed the rest of the pizzas to go since we couldn't finish it. Service was good. We got water and take out box/bags when requested.

Needed something hearty. Ordered a thin crust and a deep dish as well an Italian beef sandwich Thin Crust - Hot Papi. I didn't think it was too thin. Still was able to chew on something rather than a cracker 4/5 Deep dish - Cheese Louise. For a deep dish this is perfect amount of cheese sauce and dough 4/5. Italian beef sandwich. Good with a beer 4/5 Besides the food I really like the chill vibe

CEREAL! Is the first word that came to my head while trying the recommended full bodied red wine. Shouting the first word that comes to your mind is a technique a sommelier recommended to actualize your thoughts on flavor. Unbeknownst to me at the time, my brain made the immediate jump to cereal because the notes were full bodied like whole milk and but really silky like milk steeped in cereal. I dunno the bottle, you'd have to ask my ceo. I just remember it was priced at over $100. Anywho, like many New Yorkers, this was our party's first taste of Chicago style deep dish pizza and my thoughts are... eh. The homemade chips were the head turners of the show. Very fresh, lightly salted, appropriately fried to the point before greasiness. That's where the meal ends at being above average. The parts of the pizza just weren't seasoned very well. Maybe there was an emphasis on the ingredients and maybe they weren't at the right season. Too many maybes for my taste. The deep dish somehow felt dense and empty at the same time. We ordered two other thin crust on the menu and they felt very one-note. The interior is very warm and the close quarters invite chumminess. Very appropriate for Christmas season. I dunno, maybe it's me. Or maybe it's mabelleine. ...it's definitely not me.

This is our second dinner at this Emmets; the other Emmets is on Grove Street. We like the pizzas and Italian Beef sandwiches very much. We enjoyed our arugula salad. The food is very good. We chose the chips with the sandwich, and they come out warm, fresh, and crisp. The pizza prices are in line for the neighborhood, but a little high for NYC. The other prices are in line for NYC. Service is good to very good. We'll go again. TIP Emmets is 11 minutes walk from Toad Hall, a very old school bar with prices lower than usual for the neighborhood. We like that bar for Happy Hour. TIP the Hot Papi features fresh jalapeños. You might find this too hot. A pepperoni and giardiniera combo probably has enough heat for you. TIP the ambience is very basic. You're here primarily for the food.

Solid deep dish pizza with many options & toppings! & this is coming from a New Yorker that usually prefers a thin slice. This is a good place for a change of pace, a filling meal, and/or someone who's missing a good deep dish -- all at a good price.
Be the first to ReplyMy GF and I made a reservation for a Saturday evening at
My GF and I made a reservation for a Saturday evening at 7:15pm knowing we had a show to get to that was about a 6 minute walk away at 9pm. Went there hoping for a "Chicago food experience" of deep dish pizza and Chicago style hot dogs (we had visited Chicago during the summer and wanted to recreate a good memory of the visit). The actual restaurant is small inside... 6 two person tables, approx 8 spots at the counter (there is also a tent outside). We were seated promptly and given a bottle of tap water and a couple plastic tumblers. My GF decided on a mushroom and basil 10" deep dish, while I was going to have a couple Chicago dogs, figuring I would also help her with her pizza. "No hot dogs... we're all out" says the waiter... I was stunned! Really? REALLY?? You advertise yourself at a Chicago hot dog place and you don't have them? On a Saturday night?? I could understand if we walked in right before closing, but it was early evening. Well, guess I'll order a pizza for myself. So our order was 2- 10" deep dish pizzas. Then we sat... and sat... and sat... (the music was overly loud and often profanity laced... I am not a prude by any means, but hearing the lyrics spouting the word "f*ck" constantly while eating out isn't the experience I was looking for). Finally after approximately 45 mins my pizza arrives... not my GF's, just mine. After another 10-12 mins we flag down our server and ask about her pizza... "let me go check" he says". After about another 10 min wait he brings her pizza... no apology or explanation. Her mushroom and basil pizza had maybe 3 of 4 pieces of mushroom in it and the basil looked like it was fresh picked off the plant and scattered across the top uncooked... we both like raw basil in a Caprese salad, but in a pizza it's supposed to be cooked. It gave every appearance of something last minute... and we both believe they completely forgot about her order until we asked, at which point they threw it together in a rush. As for the food itself, it was pretty good... tasty tomato sauce and abundant cheese oozing everywhere. But the experience as a whole with the loud, profane music, a staple menu item you boast about being unavailable, l-o-n-g wait for food (45 mins for me, over an hour for her) and the impression that they forgot her order, left us with a very poor impression and we most likely wouldn't go back... there are many, many other restaurants in the area to choose from.
Be the first to ReplyAs close as you'll get to chicago deep dish in nyc.
We got the cheese louise, delish. Crust was good, carmelized, slight hint of sourdough. Not as much sauce like you'd expect with chicago deep dish, but nonetheless good. Can you really go wrong with melted stacks of cheese on quality bread?!?! Give it a shot. Takes about 45 min to make. It can get soggy if you let it sit too long, typical of chicago deep dish, but not always.

I made a reservation for Emmett's outdoor seating area in mid-November. It was chilly outside, but the outdoor area is fully enclosed and has overhead space heaters. It was still a bit draughty/drafty though. Not a big deal for me. I mean, I chose outdoors since they didn't have any tables available for booking inside their very tiny space. Anyway, I got to Emmett's before my buddy did, and at the time of the reservation. I was sat right away.Once my friend arrived about 15 minutes later, we ordered one thin crust Nadine pie, then another Mr. Red thin crust after we scarfed the first pie down. The wait times were reasonable during a Friday night dinner rush, although the server might've forgotten our second order as it took about 20 minutes longer than when we received our first thin crust pie.Whatever the case was, both pizza pies were delicious!I was gazing at other tables and their deep dish pizzas, but as a native New Yorker, it's still a casserole to me, not a pizza. I still want to try their deep dish though.Food: 10/10Service: 10/10Ambiance: 9/10 as the inside has a capacity for about only 20-25 customers; their pandemic outdoor seating might increase their overall capacity to about 60 people (40 outside seating)

I absolutely love Emmett's and was thrilled to get a reservation here (make a reservation!!!) for dinner with my family. We got two of the smallest deep dish pizzas, homemade chips and a burger for five people and it would have been impossible to finish. The food was so so so delicious tho we did try. Took one star off as they messed up our drinks order twice but the waiter Waze super nice about it and corrected it quickly for us.I've never had so many replies to a good instagram story before in my life. Go hungry and go for the deep dish. You won't regret it.

Order:- Meat Lovers Deep Dish Pizza (3/5)Pros:- One of the few restaurants in the city you can get Chicago style deep dish or thin-crust pizza Cons:- Pizza crust was hard and the cheese was very watery - Restaurant itself is very small and their outdoor seating area is very cramped and small - Unrelated to the restaurant, but we got seated next to two obnoxiously loud people who were clearly very drunk and yelling at each other while seated 1 foot away from each other. They were clearly disturbing us and all the other diners in the outdoor seating area, but none of the staff did anything about itOverall: As a person who actually lived in Chicago, Emmett's does not do the classic deep dish justice. The pizza crust was hard and the cheese was too watery.
Be the first to ReplyThe experience was off to a bad start.
I called the restaurant as we were running 15 minutes late because of bad weather and wanted to give them a heads up. First time they hung up on me. Second time they said they would try to hold the table but no promises. Okay got it- thinking they must be packed, so we get there and theres like 4 tables. They initially try to seat us in their outdoor dining and our resy was inside. Outdoor dining set up was terrible and needs to go. Talk to waitress since we reserved inside and they move us but they need the table by 715. Okay fine. We sit down and the server was honestly probably the guy who hung up and just not great. They only do wine by the bottle, however, their menu has by glass. Strange? Are they pushing bottles because of poor service? Cheapest bottle was $75 fine. Chicago style food was nothing great. We have been to lous and have had al's and honestly were not overly impressed. Deep dish was the let down. The actual good food that was the non chicago style- hot popi was pretty good. Also, as we left at 7 there was MULTIPLE open tables. Overall service ruined it and will not be back. Beware of them pushing bottles too, not a fan. This was huge on my dad's list of places to go and he was upset.

Delicious deep dish pizza, they had a table available during lunch time in soho so we decided to eat here. The pizza was incredible and the restaurant felt like a pub which was cool. The waiter was a little rude but did not ruin the experience

After living in Chicago for two years, I'm clearly showing a bias since this is one of the few places for traditional Chicagoan grub. BUT - we ordered an a Italian Beef on a Thursday night, fairly early in the night, and they just flat out didn't have any giardiniera - huge disappointment. The 4 is for the nostalgia, but I look forward to trying again to be proved otherwise!
Be the first to ReplyDeep dish is my favorite style of pizza, so I was excited
Deep dish is my favorite style of pizza, so I was excited to give Emmet's a try. When my friend and I arrived, the hostess was able to seat us immediately without a reservation either at the bar or a table on the sidewalk, so we chose the latter. Our server came by quite quickly before we got a chance to look at the menu so we asked if he could come back and he came back about 2 minutes later so we just decided on the spot and ordered a meat lovers 14" pizza. It took quite a while for the pizza (probably 40 minutes) to come out, although I guess that's to be expected for a deep dish. At that point, the bottle of water at our table was empty so the server took it away. Right after he walked away we noticed that we had received a plain pizza instead of a meat lovers, but we didn't see the server again for a while to be able to tell him. Since we were hungry we decided it was better at that point to just start eating the pizza rather than waiting for them to make a meat lovers like we had ordered. Perhaps if the server had confirmed with us what he had written down for our order this wouldn't have happened. When I grabbed the first slice I realized that the pizza wasn't nearly as deep as I had hoped. When we tasted it, we were both pretty disappointed. My friend commented that it reminded him of the taste of Chuck-E-Cheese pizza, which I don't disagree with. When the server came back again we were finally able to ask for more water. We each ate about 2 and a half slices before being pretty full. Overall, it was upsetting that they had messed up our order, the food didn't taste great, and it ended up being pretty pricey ($40 total for just a plain pizza). One of my pet peeves is when restaurants with a Square terminal have minimum preset option of 20% for the tip, which they did here. Definitely not planning to come back.

One of the best pizza places in New York - and that's saying a lot! While the physical restaurant is small, they make up for it with the fast service and high quality of dishes. We ordered 2 pizzas, French fries and a salad for 4 people and ended up with leftovers too! You must try the deep dish pizza - even if you're normally a thin crust fan. The gooey cheese pull is not only extremely instagramable but also very satisfying.

During my Trip to New York, I wanted to try some pizza and the most recommended place was Emmett's so I said, sure why not try it! I called to see the waiting list and they asked me what time I was going to get there and I said in 30 minutes. They took me by surprise when they told me they were gonna reserve me a spot when I got there. I recommend people to reserve a spot before they get there too because once we got there, the place was packed! And when I ordered a deep dish pizza and ate some, I finally understood why everyone likes coming here! The pizza is literally a commercial cheese pull pizza!!! It was amazing! The sauce was nice and flavorful, the cheese was hot and it melted in your mouth. The crust wasn't too thick or too thin it was buttery and crispy. The waiters really check up on you even when the place is packed with people!
Be the first to ReplyReally a great exposed brick dining experience.
Tight seating & a wraparound bar define the place. The tavern style thin crust pizza was excellent, and while I didn't have any crazy expectations for the burger, was pleasantly surprised as it was phenomenal too!
Be the first to ReplyService was good.
Draft beer was enjoyable. As Midwest natives and deep dish lovers, we came for the deep dish pizza. Unfortunately, it pales in comparison to the hot Chicago spots. I'm happy I was able to get the experience out here in NYC, but there are better pizza spots in the area. The crust doesn't offer the traditional rich, buttery flavor one would expect from a deep dish.

(Disclaimer, I did not order Chicago-style pizza here, and this review is not about the deep-dish). I don't love deep-dish pizza, and my husband was craving a Chicago-style hot dog, so we ordered the hot dog and compromised with a thin-crust pie. The hot dog was a pretty good, classic Chicago dog. The 'Mr Red' thin-crust pizza, however, was over priced ($26) and essentially consisted of a tough cracker crust with thinly-spread marinara over the top, a slight dusting of Parmesan, and large pieces of raw basil. I'm aware the place specializes in deep-dish, but I didn't realize how punishingly bad the thin-crust option was. The other food was mediocre too. Our drinks were room-temperature and the arugula salad was fresh, but bland. I think the dressing was just olive oil and lemon. Overall, I was disappointed and left hungry.
