This is a better shop that the outlet in Paragon.
The service is better. When I asked for the duck I ordered to be chopped up and serve on the table. It is exactly it. Unlike the Paragon outlet where you get someone else's what seem like overnight duck drenched in some unidentifiable salty sauce. The Peking duck is also tastier at this outlet.

Excellent service and elegant surroundings. Don't miss their Carrot Cake XO as an appetizer, it was simply one of the best things I've eaten. We actually returned a second time just to have it again. Waiter was very helpful providing suggestions... all of them excellent.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent dim sum.
Tends to be on the smaller and more delicate side of portions. Lo bac guo loses something out on a tray instead of fresh off the griddle cart, but that's expected in a place like this. The only real weakness is the har cheung fun, which is much too thick-- good flavor but disappointing. That said you're paying for location, atmosphere, service, and quality, so keep that in mind!

We could not have chosen a better place to celebrate mom's 97th birthday. Excellent, professional and very pleasant staff. From the start to being seated at our tables. Then of course we oooh'd and ahhh'd at the superb performance and skill of the chef who initiated the expert cutting of our first and second servings of Peking Duck. I now know why it is called the Imperial Peking Duck. We felt like we were royalty from the Imperial era. From the absolutely refined slicing of the crisp thin skin to slivers of the most delectable roasted meats into bouncy steamed buns with just enough sauce and greens...Mmmmm.We also had scallops, steamed fish and other wonderful dishes, but the Peking Duck is a must.I shall return.Review was for a visit to Singapore end April 2017.

Not that the dim sum here is bad by any means but given the intense competition among dim sum places in Singapore, the prices here and the overall consistency of my dim sum experience, I just couldn't bring myself to give this place 4 stars (blame Yelp for not having a 3.5 star option!).So a restaurant at Marina Bay Sands - expect heftier prices than usual, which I came mentally prepared for (although $7 for an hour of parking was really harsh, but that's no fault of this restaurant). Let's go into the nuts and bolts of it:The good: Really good pu-er tea (not your typical Crystal Jade chinese tea experience), which was amazingly still fragrant on the 2nd refill. The dumplings ("ha kau" and "siew mai") were delicious. Not overly heavy on the meats in these but sufficient to be succulent without feeling too greasy. The char siew bao / pork bun was also really good - the meat was sufficiently fatty, which is becoming a rarity in health-conscious Singapore. Service was also impeccable, they were pretty much stealthy ninjas who refilled your teapot while you were conversing. The bad: The shrimp/prawn roll ("cheong fun") was really quite disappointing, way too many layers wrapping the prawns, so it doesn't absorb the soy sauce sufficiently to create a balance of flavours. Steamed carrot cake was also a little too tough and bland for my preference - I really prefer it when the texture is softer with more flavour (I'm thinking of the one at Wah Lok@Carlton Hotel as an example). The latter might be more a personal thing, though.I really wanted to give this place 4* but when you trot out $5 or so per plate of dim sum, the expectations do go up and it's a shame. It's not a bad experience - I would give this place another try because there's so much going for it, but definitely avoiding those 2 dishes if I do return for lunch.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the best dim sum I've found so far in Singapore.
I still miss the ladies with the pushcarts like in Hong Kong or New York, but I think I just have to accept that that's a dying tradition. All the standard dishes are tasty, and they have a lot of my old favorites from New York that are for some reason hard to find in Singapore, like beef balls, the large, super-processed and unnaturally soft meatballs with watercress. Plus, it's in Marina Bay Sands so in a pinch you can book a room to nap in when the food coma sets inn
