EPOCH Bar & Kitchen Terrace Toronto Reviews from The Last Year
Afternoon Tea at Ritz-Carlton - a dull experience
My husband and I had afternoon tea at Ritz-Carlton, Toronto. It was a dull, unmemorable experience. Pros: - we arrived earlier and were seated right the way -the sandwiches, scones and the pastries were fresh - the tea selection was good Cons: - small tables -plastic plant pot on the table -no table clothes -no live piano music - a screen divider from the kitchen, the person facing the screen (it has a grey-ish colour) can see trough the large enough gaps into the kitchen. -we were supposed to self-serf ourselves and remove the strainers with the tea leaves from the pots. The two strainers stayed on the table during the whole tea time - no idea why. If they were supposed to be used again, nobody inform us or offer us hot water. As the tables are very small, this was taking a lot of space with no use and the strainers are not pieces of art. -The tray was put in the middle between me and my husband, practically blocking the view of each other -the pastries were unremarkable and very miniature. The jam, not remarkable either, was served in miniature bowls - not big enough for two people and we had to ask for more Overall, it was a dull, grey experience as ambience, food and sense of luxury... Sorry for the honest and not that positive review, but I was expecting some consistency in the afternoon experience within the Ritz hotels around the world.
Disappointing
We went there to experience High Tea. Service was very good. We were disappointed with the desserts. If you don't want to feel rushed don't go there. We had just finished and were told not to hurry but the table was reserved and we had 5 minutes. At $230 for 2 I was disappointed at this. Especially when the restaurant was not filled. Also online it mentioned festive, however, nothing was festive about the decor or the presentation. When I think of Ritz I think of luxury and high end ambiance and food, not dine and get out. We were disappointed! I can think of many other High Tea experiences worthy of a wonderful Sunday in Toronto.
This is for Epoch's High tea.
First of all before we got there they called several times to ensure there were no allergies in the group, I appreciate the care. When we arrived the server brought over the box of loose tea samples for us to smell prior to selection, we were again asked if there were any food sensitivities. When the tea arrived they also provided little hourglasses so you could estimate how log to steep depend on your preference. Food was great (all the classics finger sandwiches, scones and petit fours) as was the service. The room is also both elegant and cozy.
We went to EPOCH for their afternoon tea.
Went around 12 pm and it wasn't too busy at the time, but make sure to make a reservation. The restaurant itself is very clean and beautiful, I'm a big fan of the ambience as well. Definitely one of the best places I've been for afternoon tea. First of all, the server was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about tea selection. They brought out each tea so we could smell the different notes in the blends. I ended up going with the Sencha Fukujyu Cha, while my friend while she went for the Organic Lychee. Both were excellent! They bring out a tea timer which lets you know when to stop brewing depending on if you like your tea mild, regular, or strong. You can ask for extra water since you can use your tea leaves multiple times! I was a big fan of all the sandwiches and scones. If you have any allergies, make sure to let them know when you reserve. My favourite sandwich was definitely the coronation chicken, but all of them were surprisingly delicious. Scones come with a strawberry jam, clotted cream, and rose petal jam. They were freshly baked and warm and just so so good with the jam and clotted cream. I would honestly order extra clotted cream from the get-go because it goes so well with the scones. I was too full by the end to eat all the desserts so I ended up bringing the rest home. But I did eat everything after. Although it doesn't seem like a lot, once you are eating (make sure to savour each bite) and sipping your tea, you get quite full. Overall, it was a great experience for afternoon tea and I definitely felt welcomed by the staff. The bartender even passed by and complimented my leather jacket, and if I wasn't lying I became very tempted to buy it in every colour. If you're looking for afternoon tea, I would definitely recommend EPOCH!
Quality but you pay for it! Had a small but very nice
Quality but you pay for it! Had a small but very nice lunch there. Everything is first class but you get nothing for free here....even though you pay through the nose for it would be nice to have the illusion that you get a deal Luxury surroundings and because it's expensive no punks, kids, rappers, losers or dumb asses etc.
5/5 will be back - patio drinks and appies
5/5 will be back Had a great visit on the patio of epoch. Met a friend and had several cocktails and appies. There from 430-930pm and had attentive service by Abhay and Zachary. Tried all the different cocktails which were delicious. Thanks to the staff for recommendations throughout the night both both good and drink. Nice atmosphere and decor. Clearly gets busy as nice goes on. Will be returning. $475+ and tip for the 5 hours
Service(4.
5/5) it was pretty good here even when busy! Ambiance (4/5) nice vibrant setting with fire-pits and music. Easy to blow through time Cocktails(3.5/5) luckily i told him to not put my manhattan on the rocks...party foul. But cocktails were decent but not amazing for the price. Food(3.5/5) the coconut shrimp is the clear winner on the menu!! The steak and shrimp was decent too. The steak wasn't as delicious as i hoped though.
Take this slow.
It's going to be an event. Choose your tea. Sniff them all. I had the chamomile. Absolutely wonderful. I love fresh tea ingredients. They had a standard set up and a special one for my vegan wife and they were amazing. A glass of bubbly and we were set. We stayed for hours. This is not brunch. This is High Tea.
I hosted my Afternoon Tea Bridal Shower at Epoch Restaurant
I hosted my Afternoon Tea Bridal Shower at Epoch Restaurant last Sunday, and the whole thing was absolutely spectacular from start to finish. When I first emailed the restaurant to inquire about hosting a private event there, Seamus (the restaurant and bar manager) got back to me promptly and with every bit of information that I could have ever hoped to get (which is both extremely rare and exceptionally helpful when trying to plan large scale events). Every interaction with Seamus since then and throughout the entirety of my three-month planning process was prompt, pleasant, professional, and an absolute pleasure. Decor and restaurant layout decisions, allergies and dietary restrictions, timelines,- all an absolute breeze! This restaurant and all of its staff genuinely cared so much about my having a smooth, flawless experience and it came through on absolutely every level. The day of the event, the on-site staff were endlessly helpful, flexible, pleasant and attentive. The food was perfect, the ambiance was great, the flow was smooth, and all of my guests had the opportunity to participate in a group experience that they'll never forget. I seriously can't recommend Epoch highly enough, ESPECIALLY for a private event!!!
