Honestly the food, ambiance and service has all been top
Honestly the food, ambiance and service has all been top tier the two times I came here. If you want some good hibachi in the city without breaking bank, come here.
Be the first to ReplyFlame is a phenomenal hibachi restaurant on the upper west
Flame is a phenomenal hibachi restaurant on the upper west side in the Manhattan Valley neighborhood. I had the Hibachi Steak and my wife had the hibachi lobster tails. All of the food had great flavor and it was cooked to perfection. The hibachi menu is pretty standard with steak, chicken and seafood. They also offer several sushi options and appetizers. The ambiance is really on point and very sophisticated. The service was impeccable.
Be the first to ReplyCame in based on reviews and wasn't disappointed.
Sat at the Bar on a Sunday afternoon with no one else there, bartender was attentive and friendly. The hibachi part had waves of people coming in, not sure if all had reservations, but the food smelled delicious. I got the pork steamed buns, Goyza and a roll, don't recall the name but all were tasty. I'll keep on the short list for when in the neighborhood.
Be the first to ReplyI'm confused as to why anyone would eat here.
I ordered the spicy tuna roll, pork dumplings, out of control roll, and a side car. Everything was bad, and the pork dumplings were horrendous. I took a bite of everything and that was it. The sidecar tasted extremely watered down. In addition, the cleaning supplies smell at the bar ruined things as well. I informed the bartender of my opinion and she quickly gave me my check and shrugged. I paid and tipped for a meal that I could not bring myself to eat, but I will never return. Don't make the mistake I did...save yourself and don't GO!

I have been disappointed in the Japanese food in the area, until I ordered for delivery from Flame yesterday. I ordered the Bento Box (chicken teriyaki). It was perfect. I'm looking forward to ordering from them again. Recommend highly!
Be the first to ReplyWorst entertainment!!! $600 bill yet no entertainment.
Not worth it, No food tossing, management unreceptive.
Be the first to ReplyFlame, located just a block away from the Museum of Natural
Flame, located just a block away from the Museum of Natural History is mostly known for its hibachi. We were in the mood for sushi and opted for it over Momoya (which we will have to try another day!)We weren't sure if we would get a table, but it turns out this place is massive, and unless you come at the busiest of times, it should be all right to get a table. The service is fast!We ordered the crunchy maki combo (yellowtail scallion, salmon, tuna), and the sushi was good, without being special. We also got the shaking beef which comes in a really large plate such that it appears to be a small portion. The beef slices were nice and juicy, but they could have been more plentiful. Overall, satisfactory.
Be the first to ReplySeveral years ago when Flame was on Amsterdam Ave.
, I visited numerous times. It was friendly, lively and very enjoyable. Then when they moved to W, 82 St., shortly after that location opened, I visited & had an enjoyable sushi meal at the bar. Something has changed over the years. The place is what I would call stark, and the waiters couldn't care less whether they serve you or not.I went for lunch today and asked for the Sushi Bar. Turns out they have no sushi bar; so I was escorted to a back room with tables and no atmosphere. I was the only patron in the entire place. Shortly after, a couple of ladies came in and sat down to eat, but we turned out to be the only luncheon patrons. When I arrived, the waiter acted as if he were doing me a favor to seat me. I felt uncomfortable all the while I was there and just wanted to eat and get out of there. Several things regarding the service did not sit well with me, including telling me he could not provide hot sake and then deciding he could. When he brought my plate of sashimi, he set it so far from me across the table, I had to get up and place it in front of me, which is what he should have done in the first place. With regard to the food, the service was swift. The food arrived quickly. I ordered hot sake, sashimi lunch, and white rice. The sashimi lunch came with miso soup & salad. The sake was very good. The miso soup was terrible, worse I ever had. Dishwater probably would have tasted better. I just didn't eat it. I can't fault the sashimi. It was 9 pieces of the standard pieces you get in most sushi restaurants and very fresh. Usually a sushi place offers soup or salad and rice, but this place served the soup as well as a huge green salad, which was ridiculously large and could have served as a main course. The dressing was good, but only enough to eat about one-third of the greens, which were very fresh. (I noticed the 2 ladies also ate very little of their salad). Although I ordered white rice, I got sushi rice. The waiter never bothered to ask me which I prefer. The prices for a sushi restaurant were quite reasonable.I went out of my way to go to this place and, overall, I was very disappointed. Unless I decide in the future to try the hibachi, I won't return. I was amazed at how uncaring and cold the service was.
Be the first to ReplyIn the summer of 2021 I was there for my very first hibachi
In the summer of 2021 I was there for my very first hibachi experience for a birthday party and the candle they use blew up and injured me; my arm was burned and had a bubble from the explosion of the flam (see video) and the staff couldn't be bothered to respond appropriately. Not only did they not care, they handed me an ice cube and a napkin like that was supposed to do anything (which is literally not what you're supposed to do hello) No apology no follow up and not even a modification to the bill as a kind gesture- nothing. They just disappeared and hid away until we left. You would think that maybe a place such as this (especially one called flame) would have some sort of system set up for injuries but evidently they couldn't be bothered, now I have a nice little scar that reminds me of the most important thing every time I tell anyone this story: Never again!

Very rude to my friends and I claiming we had no reservation and when we showed proof with the address and time, the host was still rude

Great sushi spot on the upper west side! They have sushi, hibachi, and other Asian fusion items. They have a lot of sushi combo deals which were reasonably priced and fun! I did the crunch maki but our friends did the sushi deal for 2 and it looked amazing! Definitely recommend for a casual sushi night or for a fun habachi experience

Be the first to ReplyAmazing food and pretty fast service.
Great outdoor seating. Did the hibachi here and really enjoyed it! We came here a couple of times and went here the other day for dinner. We had dim sum, hibachi noodles, and the shrimp avocado roll. Highly recommend!!

Be the first to Reply*Review of the non-hibachi menu* Came here on a Tuesday
*Review of the non-hibachi menu* Came here on a Tuesday evening as a walk-in and there were multiple tables open for non-hibachi dining. The service was great and when we asked about happy hours, the waiter told me there's a happy hour for drinks until 7pm on weekdays (not sure about weekends) $6 for beer, $7 sake, $8 something.. but I ended up ordering two glasses of draft Sapporo so I didn't get to remember the rest of the happy hour specials haha. I ordered the Flame roll and crunchy spicy snow crab maki with avocado at an additional cost. As a Specialty roll, flame roll is $21 and it did not meet my expectations. The rice was overcooked and dense (and it felt not enough rice on the rolls), and the overall texture of the fish on either sushi did not *melt* in my mouth the way I expect pricier rolls to be. I don't think the fish quality and preparation were great. I came here for sushi and realized this place is better known for Hibachi, which the table sounded a lot of fun from constant entertainment and singing that I can hear on the non hibachi table. However, we were still hungry so we ordered the Thai pineapple basil fried rice and it was SO GOOD - I would come back here just for this. Even the rice that felt overdone on sushi tasted amazing and flavorful for the fried rice. I think we picked the wrong kind of table to sit here haha.Overall, the service was great, but the sushi wasn't up to par and I was a bit skeptical of many different cuisines on the menu as it's hard to pull off all dishes well. I say go with Hibachi but not the sushi.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for dinner on a Saturday night with a group of 6.
The service at this place was the only plus point. The food was almost aggressively bland. We all mostly got the hibachi dinner meals and they were all tasteless and boring. The chicken was super dry. To top it all off the prices were incredibly high for what you're getting, especially considering we weren't even sitting at a hibachi table. I would advise everyone to steer clear of this place as literally every other Asian restaurant I've been to in New York City has been better.
Be the first to ReplyThis review is for the management, not the food.
I unfortunately did not get a chance to try the food. I hate giving bad reviews on Yelp, and consider myself a pretty flexible customer. That being said, the experience I had with the management at Flame was incredibly rude, dismissive, and scolding.TL;DR: Was not able to physically get to the restaurant in time for my reservation because of holiday street closures/police blockages, and was charged a no-show fee of $140. After three tries of trying to get a manager to call me back, she rudely told me it was my fault for not canceling the reservation or making it in time for the reservation, even though I had called the host. I had a reservation for 7 people the night before Thanksgiving. Flame's reservation policy is no shows will be charged at $20 per person. When I made the reservation there was no indication from the restaurant that I should allow extra time to get there because of road blockages.Flame is right by the Museum of Natural History, so on Thanksgiving Eve police had blocked off all roads and walkways because of the crowds coming to see the balloons be blown up for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. We could not PHYSICALLY CROSS THE STREET TO GET TO THE RESTAURANT. The only way to get across the street would be to walk all the way down to 72nd St and come back up. I called the host about 30 minutes before our reservation to let them know we are having trouble getting to the restaurant because of the street closures. The host was very understanding, telling me that he himself was late to work because of the all the blockages. Unfortunately he could only hold the table for 15 minutes, which would not be enough time for us to make it. I asked if I could cancel the reservation and he said he would try.The day after Thanksgiving, I was charged a no-show fee of $140 ($20 per person). I immediately called the restaurant to see if the charges could be dropped. I spoke to a hostess, who was very understanding but ultimately could do nothing. She told me she would leave a message for the manager who would call me back. I didn't receive a call back.I called again two days later, and happened to speak to the same hostess. She was surprised I called again because she thought that the manager had called me back. She again took my number and told me she would leave a message for the manager. I didn't receive a call back.I called again some days later and finally spoke to the manager. I explained the unusual situation and how I tried my best to make the reservation on time. She was detached, immediately dismissive, and NOT understanding at all. She BLAMED ME, telling me I should have canceled the reservation if I wasn't going to make it, (even though I called and tried) and said it was restaurant policy to charge for no-shows. She dismissed how hard it was to get to the restaurant that day. She denied knowing about other times I called and DIDN'T EVEN LOOK UP MY RESERVATION to confirm any of the details. I called Yelp Reservations, and they told me that I have to take it up with the restaurant. I tried filing a dispute with my credit card, but because the reservation was made through Yelp Reservations, my credit card spoke to Yelp and not the restaurant. I now have to pay $140 for an unfair no-show.

I loved getting to try the veggie lo mein here! The noodles are soft and it's filled with a variety of vegetables including mushrooms and asparagus and bell peppers! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the interior decor is beautiful!
Be the first to ReplyFlame is a fun spot.
We didn't have reservations but were able to get a booth for six on a Saturday evening without any issues. They were very accommodating, bringing out water in plastic cups for the two toddlers we had in our party. For food, we had: fried rice, hibachi chicken with potstickers, sashimi ceviche, the trio sushi, a spicy girl roll, and the honey glazed walnut chicken. For the cocktails: we had the Asian plum, margaritas, and mai tais. Overall we had a fun time. The food was tasty -- not the best we've had but it was good. The place was very busy with lots of parties at the hibachi tables. We were in the back, but still able to hear the gong and the constant Happy Birthday songs. Seems like a good place for these events.
Be the first to ReplyThe price is expensive but the sushi dining room is lovely.
Did not care for the hibachi and how many folks were crowding over there. Sushi was fresh and service was nice. Would definitely check this place out again!

I can only speak from a takeout point of view (I will add to this review when I dine in). I called over the phone and woman gladly took my order. I showed up in person to pick up my order and the host was very kind and my food was ready on time. The sushi was fresh, rolled well, and everything I expected! They have a very nice indoors seating area and will definitely come back some time to dine in.

It was hard to enjoy our over priced, average dinner due to the under age kids at the restaurant. The teenagers were screaming the entire night. When I went to speak to the manager I was told that it was a family restaurant and "kids get excited." The teenagers were so loud and obnoxious it was hard to enjoy or hear our guests. It ruined our $350+ dinner. Clearly this business does not care about serving under age people and they kept getting served. Do not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyGood food.
Good service. Good entertainment. A little pricey . Came out to $110 for a hibachi dinner and cocktail for 2 people. Would go back again and recommend It

I've ordered delivery a few times from here, and it's usually decent. The order has a mistake every other order, but nothing that crazy. However, when eating today, I found a staple in the food. Inexcusable. Lack of attention to detail when boxing is one thing, but when it's that bad in the kitchen, can't go back.
