We have been coming to Frontera Grill for decades and have never experienced such a poor night out in all of our visits to your restaurant..We were sat down at our table at 8:30. I noticed that the restaurant was not as lively as usual which concerns me that the experience we had might be more common. Once we were sat down nobody even said hi to us for over 30 minutes. We had to ask for someone to come to our table. We ordered drinks with our waiter. My friend ordered a dirty martini and our waiter didn't know what that was. When his drink arrived it was vodka in martini glass with a like peel on the rim. I also ordered a rum drink and had to send it back. Our food took a very long time to get delivered to us and it was subpar , my steak was overcooked and dry. This is was completely the opposite of any other times we had dined with you. Our waiter recommended the donuts for dessert and nobody at our table liked them at all. When we got our bill it said that we had to pay a mandatory 20% gratuity. Our waiter delivered the bill and explained that the 20% gratuity does not go to him , he made it clear that this was NOT a tip. We asked him to come back and explain the 20%, then he said maybe 5% of it goes to him. We asked the manager to our table who explained they were salaried and it goes to all employees. We didn't mind paying a 20% tip, but with terrible service we did not want to add anything on top of our very high bill. I also worry that a guaranteed gratuity may have led to the workers not being motivated to provide for a good experience.
