Fulgurances Brooklyn Reviews from The Last Year
What a phenomenal 9 course tasting menu at Fulgurances by
What a phenomenal 9 course tasting menu at Fulgurances by Chef Nick Tamburo. The table-side service was on point from their food descriptions to timing between courses to the lovely hospitality. Each course was so incredibly unique and they all worked together flawlessly. My personal favorite courses were the 3rd and 9th! Also love their cute bathroom. Course 1: maple & butter brushed pastry with button mushroom, citrus zest, and braised leeks Course 2: steelhead trout cured in cara cara, cara escabeche, shiyo kombu, salmon roe Course 3: little neck clam chowder with bay leaf oil, black pepper, and aerated cream Course 4: thinly sliced roasted red beets over blood orange, in almond milk fused with rose hip Course 5: monkfish liver seared with butter w/ zerbinati squash, brown butter pine nuts, leek ash oil, and a dollop of kumquat Course 6: winter veggie stew - sunchoke, lions mane mushroom, veggie dashi broth + side of sourdough bread Course 7: monkfish tail wrapped with pork caul fat, sea lettuce vinaigrette, two types of rutabaga (confit and pureed), apples and horseradish underneath Course 8: white chocolate cream, fresh kiwi, taro root powder, and citrus ice Course 9: celery soda foam, celery root ice cream, cherries, and coffee
It's hard to review this place because the chefs keep
It's hard to review this place because the chefs keep rotating, but what I'll say is that I enjoyed it better the last time we went here. I think there are a few tips I can give for prospective diners. Since this is going to be an expensive meal, get the wine pairing, to make the most of it. I enjoyed the wine pairing the most, but I think it was because it deadened me to the actually truly terrible food that was being served to us. The other thing I would say is that BE VERY FAMILIAR with the chef who is doing the residency, or at least do some reading up, so you won't be shocked and disappointed, as we were. The last thing I'd say is that, and I'm sorry, BUT RUN AWAY from any chefs from the Pacific Northwest, as these tend to be the worst of the worst, crunchy and scavengey, making kiddie piles of nothing that taste like woodsian nonsense... just...bad. I took photos of the food, quite seriously, for an Instagram story that proved uproarious. Everyone, even people working in other restaurants, thought it looked awful. It wasn't all awful. But much of it? Yes. And the dessert was the single worst thing I ever ate in a restaurant. It was like eating a mealy pile of stale cereal that had been left in a pile of soil. Everything was small, unsatisfying, non-filling, with puree the main event, over and over and over. My thanks to Fulgarances for providing me with two of the funniest comments my partner has ever uttered while dining out. 1. "You realize this is just overpriced baby food, right?" 2. "This is like eating hippie autumn."
I was excited to check out Fulgrances, Laundromat since I
I was excited to check out Fulgrances, Laundromat since I think it has a really unique concept. Essentially, they have up and coming chefs from around the world rotate for 2-3 month stints. I dined in November 2023 so the resident chef was Emile Desmet who hails from Belgium. We were served a tasting menu for a very reasonable price of $89. They say it is 6 courses but we probably received more like 8 in reality. We dined at the chefs counter although they have some table seating available as well for larger groups. I was surprised that there were no meat courses served at all; each course was either vegetarian or featured some type of seafood like salmon or scallops. The food overall was pretty good without any real misses. My favorite was probably the raviolo which was served with a really addictive sauce/broth. I'm glad it came with some good bread to really soak up all the flavors. The two dessert courses were probably the weakest for me --- they were fine but weren't the most exciting way to end the meal. I will say that I wasn't very full after dinner; portions were definitely on the smaller side. I did like the casual vibes of the restaurant and service was very friendly and attentive. Overall, I liked my experience at Fulgrances and would love to come back in the future to check out other chefs!
- I don't understand the low rating - this place was great
- I don't understand the low rating - this place was great - knowledgeable sommelier - different chefs take up residency once every few months, so u don't know the type of cuisine you're going to get At least I didn't, if that information is published somewhere, I'll never know - we had six savory course, two dessert courses with an optional cheese course - most of our dishes were plant based with the only protein being monkfish - we opted to buy a bottle of wine and champagne cocktail instead if the pairing - everything was delicious as lead yo perfect satiety - no dress code, but try not to look bummy - no tip in the end, service fee is added - wait staff was really nice - I don't remember the music, but the ambiance lead to have a nice conversation - semi low lit environment - terrible parking - good for special occasions and date nights, I think the experience is nothing like you've ever had or you're not necessarily used to - although, I wouldn't go with non-experimental eaters

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
