I do not understand the hype.
My wife and I had a very weird experience. We were almost turned away when we walked in. A man (owner?) said we needed a reservation even though there was only 1 couple there and all of the tables had the chairs turned upside down on them. A lady came out and said we could eat there but couldn't irder any rolls. We sat down, were there for 1 hr and 20 minutes and nobody else walked in until we were paying the check. They wanted to turn us away initially?!?! The food: everything was good, not sensational, but the Toro was the best we have ever had. Considering the prices, you are better off going elsewhere: Shibuya, Brothers, Teru, Iroha.

There are a lot of restaurants with a unique backdrop but perhaps none quite like Go's Mart. Generally speaking would not expect a high end omakase in a nondescript and older strip mall but the adventure continues as then enter into an actual small market and walk all the way to the back where the the sushi is actually set up. This has to be one of the most unique locations as it feels more like a pop-up than established location. The service is minimalist but efficient. The chef is friendly if not talkative and will provide prompt instructions. There is a rather pricey bottle of shoyu (aka soy sauce) placed in front of you but was never utilized (some chefs do not mind if you use it but others are more particular almost as if a test). The chef tends to use gold flakes as his trademark but is for aesthetics vs taste. Highlights include the seared dishes as well as the uni and one of the last places which will offer high quality sweet shrimp and then ask if you would like to serve the head as part of a soup or fried like a cracker. Overall, a solid if not spectacular choice for omakase in perhaps one of the most hidden and off the beaten path spots.

What can one add to the plethora of raves here? This is a magical space that could only exist in the valley. Give yourself up to the kooky atmosphere that is akin to Meow Wolf's Omega Mart, and put your palate in the hands of this sushi master. Friendly, warm, dedicated service. A treat to be sure, but well worth it. Do yourself a favor and make that reservation!

5/5! Blind omakase and so good! I told them I don't like uni but he had me try his uni and it was SO good. The fish is fresh and it's a good spot for a true omakase. I kept forgetting to take pictures of it but it was also pretty presentation! Def would come back!

Best sushi ever, worth my whole paycheck!!! I love GoSan! Attention to detail, every piece is savored and always makes me wanting another piece!
Be the first to ReplyAlways good food and friendly service.
If you're looking for an Omakase experience different from the rest, with perfect bite-size portions, and an array of fresh fish and presentations, this little hole in the wall is the place to visit. Call ahead, as it's 'reservation only' seating vs walk-in, and be sure to ready yourself for an amazing experience.
Be the first to ReplyStill love this place.
I try to visit whenever I'm in town. These days I can afford to get the omakase every time, so we obviously get the omakase every time and eat until we are full. It'll prob come out to $400 per meal, but worth every penny. The sushi is consistently excellent.

Heaven on earth! Hands down for the best sushi place in CA! Reservations only amazing service. Highly recommend it
Be the first to ReplyThe place desperately needs a remodel.
The sink which is the functioning center of the restaurant is literally hanging to the wall- But not securely and the years of caulking, paint, re-caulking, and well... it's evident. This operator obviously won't change or upgrade the place-and surely does not feel the need to. Obviously they have been successful enough not to make any changes, and perhaps just won't unless it's mandated. There is no dishwasher either. This is not the best thing to have right in front of you while you are fine dining. All the dish cleaning (with no soap by the way) happens less than 3 feet from where the sushi is prepared. Not ideal. However, Fine dining is what it is indeed. Top-notch. Excellent flavors some of which were unlike any I've ever experienced. My only complaint about the excellently tasting Nigiri is that the fish and rice do not stick together. If you grab a piece of nigiri with your fingers, it separates and falls apart if you don't 'clamp' it down. A chef of this much experience should know rice that separates from the fish when taken by hand is not ideal. (and good luck with chopsticks!) It's as if he's slipping now possibly? This is Nigiri 101. Also keep in mind, that if you do go Omakase, it is up to you when to say stop. There are different price levels of nigiri sushi. Some are $8.$9, and others are $15 and up. It is not known which is which. It would be nice to be able to tell the chef for instance "I'd like omakase at the $9 level not the $15 and up. (for each piece) but you can't, so depending on how far you want to go, you could approach $300 per person pretty quickly. So much of the preparation is beyond excellent, it's just too bad the other parts of the experience are not as succinct. This is a place to go if price is of no object if you want just want the experience of unique flavors, but ZERO ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyI love this place very much.
Is my happy place. I wish I can come more often. The chef is the best. He is very kind and funny.

If you are looking for a sushi place with amazing sushi chefs and delish sushi Go's Mart is your place, It was great and incredibly created as well with gold flecks and no seaweed and light on the rice which was so perfect! I wanted wine but they did not have it they only have beer or soda or water.... Definitely not a place you go for ambiance, very plain and bright, I like the mood a little darker and more romantic, it was very clean, which is a plus!
Be the first to ReplyI've been going here for over a decade.
The fish is fresh fresh, and I love the low key ambiance. The service is straightforward, and I love Go and his wife. If you're looking for authentic sushi- not rolls, definitely give the place a try.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing! Agree with other reviewers.
Go to Go's! I love omakase and usually have an aversion to very fishy mackerel but it was NOT AT ALL fishy (just a testament to how fresh the fish is here). Go's is proud of his sushi, and it shows. He just keeps feeding you until you say you are full. Really enjoyed it! Thank you!
Be the first to ReplyBy far one of the best sushi in LA, if not the best.
Don't go there for the ambiance, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for exceptional sushi, this is the place to be. Try the omakase, you will be pleasantly surprised.

One of the most adventurous and surprising sushi meals I've had. Definitely the sort of ultra stripped down experience that is well suited to die hard sushi fans. The restaurant looks like a dingy bodega that had just been robbed, and prices are not listed. I asked for omakase and he just said ok, you can stop whenever you want. HA! I'm not good with that kind of responsibility but I spent a nice long time eating some very creative, beautifully made sushi. Seasoning and presentation were not typical, and I found myself smiling in surprise at some interesting flavor combinations. At least for dinner it was pretty much reservation only, and for omakase you can expect to pay about 200 bucks per person. It did seem like you can just take a look at the white board and order as you go.In short, strongly recommend for hardcore nigri sushi fans who are looking for an unusual place to splurge.
Be the first to ReplyAmaaaaaaazing sushi.
Understated ambience, with seating only at the sushi bar. Pricey but worth it.

Driving past, you wouldn't ever expect food of this quality from this place. Tiny place in a shopping plaza with unassuming signage, and even as you walk in, you're met with just a few plain tables, some storage refrigerators, a few plain decorations on the wall, and an office desk. Something you'd expect to see at a mom and pop local...mart. Hence the name. If you're expecting a fancily decorated Japanese restaurant, you'll be disappointed, but that's not what we're here for. We're here for food.Once the meal starts, you're treated to some of the most amazing selection of fish, beef, and other various delicacies from the ocean. The chef goes through each dish, explaining what it is and where it came from. You get to see the torch cook the beef, and see the chef adorning his many dishes in great detail. Care and attention is paid to every dish that was created. The spinach was perfect. The quality of fish was very high. I encountered seafood I never thought existed. Then to top it off with a perfectly sized dessert. For omakase, the price is extremely reasonable as well.I would give this place 6/5 if I could.
