Amazing Celebration
My partner and I eloped in New York, so this meant we were looking for somewhere special to celebrate and have dinner. We chose the Grancery Tavern and they did not disappoint. We had the tasting menu and the wine pairing. Every bite and every pairing was perfect. The staff were exceptional and wonderful to deal with. They went above and beyond, were incredibly professional, knowledgable and friendly and made our wedding night a wonderful experience. Hope to be back as soon as we can on our next visit.
Be the first to ReplyNice place but for old people
The food was tasty, but the atmosphere wasn't what we anticipated. it was a bit of my dad's style so i didn't like it much. recommend for old persons jajaja xD
Be the first to ReplyGreat Vegetarian Tasting Menu + Wine Pairing
A vegetarian tasting menu with wine paring had no down sides for a single diner! The Big 3s: Ambience: buzzing and busy, not the most lovely romantic chairs throughout with dark hard wood on your back, but I had a booth Service: Morgan and his team of 7+ year excellence continue to deliver Food: incredible plate arrangements of vegetarian specialties up to a final filling course. High Points: hand delivered potato chips warm from frier Low Points: only one choice of bread; their whipped flavored butter; Chardonnay as part of the white wine tasting menu even though I asked to skip that part.... Unique Points: incredible special moist breakfast coffee cake given on checkout to take home for breakfast, and I did!

This is one of my favorite places to eat in New York. Never made it to the big dining room, so this review is limited to the bar area experience. Friends who travel to the city a lot recommended this for an early dinner a few years ago. We were impressed by the seasonal menu and wide variety of specialty cocktails. I've been back several times since and it is always good. The service is always polite and prompt. We once went there for late lunch, early dinner fresh off the plane. We were likely there too early for the dinner menu, but they worked with us and made the early evening experience great. I do not think I have ever had the same thing twice when going there. I always dive into something new and have not been disappointed. My cousin, who lives nearby, says the burger is great but I have never had the chance to try it.
Be the first to ReplyWorth GOING!!!
It was Christmas 🎄 in NYC, for us westerners. We had just gone to see the Theadore Roosevelt museum, ( I made reservations for this restaurant, knowing it was close to the museum and very necessary, because it is a poplar restaurant). I LOVED the decorations, ( I couldn’t believe it they have a full-time florist on staff) and the vib! I had Duck Meat Loaf, $34.00, we both had cranberry daiquiris, $19.00 each, ( but worth it just to take n the atmosphere),

Lived up to the hype and exceeded expectations. The service was both attentive and casual.... the sweet spot. This is a well oiled pro team that takes joy in their work. My waitress knew her stuff cold but had the friendliness of a Kentucky Waffle House lifer. The setting is beautiful and roomy for Manhattan. The cocktail menu was great and, in an exception to a sometimes pricey menu, I enjoyed a great $10 port. After the meal. The cheese course was a bargain $16 add-on and well worth it. The sweet potato agnotollo was like crack. And the duck breast was just perfect in every way. Even the bread and amuse buche were terrific. With tip a $300 meal that somehow felt like a bargain. Bravo!
Be the first to ReplySolid like always
The quality of ingredients and preparation of the dishes is incredible. Every dish was unique… the portions were generous despite it was a restaurant week menu. We enjoyed the ambiance, not too loud in the dining area and service was excellent. Our server Dristan was very friendly and professional. We will come back for sure
Be the first to ReplyFirst Time and Last Time at Gramercy Tavern
I was really looking forward to lunch at Gramercy Tavern during restaurant week in NYC and ended up so disappointed. None of the dishes stood out. The shrimp Lumache was three shrimp on top of pasta in a tasteless red sauce. The sweet potato agnolotti was bland. Roast duck (for an extra $15) was okay but not special. The chicken with onion rings was okay.
Be the first to ReplyPathetic food
A month later, I am still thinking about the pathetic dinning experience I had at Gramercy Tavern. The Thai based appetizer consisted of few chunks of cucumber with 2 pieces of carrot and a few peanuts. Tasteless, bland and absolutely boring. My entree was pasta with lobster. Three minuscule pieces of lobster with noodles in a tasteless sauce. I’m still trying to comprehend how or why this food was served. It was awful and outrageously expensive. Shame on the chefs. Don’t waste your time or money here!
Be the first to ReplyA fading star?
Not the best of dinner experiences, and far from what one would expect at this price point. The two entrees' absence of acidity and/or flavor is one issue. In essence, the two dishes consisted of uncooked fish and raw beetroot. Both the pasta dishes, on the other hand, were delicious and rich in taste. Our hopes were high when we received one of our favorites, striped bass. Unfortunately, the fish was not properly filleted. Fish scales and one bone in the first bite could be overlooked, but additionally, the fish had been overcooked to the point of threadiness. We lost even more of our enthusiasm when encountering the lamb dish. Lamb can be difficult in January, but when the lamb tastes close to mutton with an intense flavor, there is a need for contrasting elements or tastes. We started longing for the plate to be taken away after the first bite. The duck, on the other hand, was unfortunately overcooked, approaching gray in color rather than medium-rare. On the bright side the accompanying vegetables for both mains were very well prepared. The duck was also returned to the kitchen without more than a small dent in the meat. When we came to the dessert, we found it delicious. It would have been appreciated if waiters inquired about any concerns regarding the food when guests barely touched the plates. Additionally, it is appreciated when waiters pour wine. However, they were vigilant in replenishing water glasses. We ended up racking up a $600 bill for unfortunate encounters with a couple of dishes, but with two great pasta dishes, a great dessert, and a paper bag with scrumptious apple cake. At least we had an evening we will not soon forget and a well-deserved reminder that a Michelin star is not a guarantee for consistent cooking or filleting skills.

Worth every penny. Amazing flavor. Some of the best pasta and burger ever tried. The menu is simple but takes the flavors to another level. Amazing wine list. Compliant service.
Be the first to ReplyGreat
We got in for my friend's birthday. The ambience is really well curated and iconic. The drinks were fabulous and the service at the bar was great. Everyone was happy with their meals. The vegetarian mushroom dish was a little salty and not very exciting. Understandable since this is more of a meat centric restaurant. Definitely worth a try if you can get a coveted reservation.
Be the first to ReplyFar exceeded expectations!!
My daughter and I selected this restaurant from the Michelin website before our trip to NYC. She is a chef and we both wanted to experience dining at a Michelin star restaurant. We choose the Seasonal Dinner tasting menu in the dining room. It was especially nice to have a choice between two items for each course. We chose the wine pairings and they were excellent, well thought out and presented with wonderful detail by our server, Mary Beth. In fact, we have not had better service in even the highest level restaurants on the West Coast or our other travels in as long as I can remember. Why? Mary Beth was incredibly professional paired with extensive menu and wine knowledge, a friendly and fun personality, and she truly made our evening a memorable experience. We would love to return on our next trip to New York City in the fall.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing lunch in the dining room!
My son and I were visiting NYC and had a great lunch in the dining room. Food and service were excellent. Lovely pescatarian and vegetarian options. My son said the cheesecake for dessert was the best he has every had.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinner
Casual, fun, great service and outstanding food, all is a perfect setting. The service was wonderful, the space is intimate and the food is a highlight. The burger is terrific and the cookies and milk is such a fun desert. Delicious. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyPerfect combo, thoroughly enjoyed our time
Delightful service (friendly, attentive), lovely ambience, delicious food. (My duck was the PERFECT temperature, flavor panel; my vegetarian companion REALLY loved her citrus and beets salad that was moreso a deconstructed one served on a creamy base of (missed the base!) but beautiful to look at and apparently delectable to eat). Would highly recommend!!!
Be the first to ReplyCouldn’t have possibly been better
We got the tasing menu and it was the most amazing thing I’ve ever eaten, each dish was packed with flavor but still unique from the others, it was the perfect amount of food and it all tasted super fresh. The atmosphere was beautiful and rustic, with lots of colorful tapestries and curtains, and it wasn’t too loud, the food came about five minutes after you’re finished eating. And dessert was incredible, but not too sweet.
Be the first to ReplyBest food I have ever eaten!
This restaurant has excellent food. I have eaten a lot of really great food in my life but this is superior to it all. The staff at this restaurant is so kind and friendly, I told them that I was really excited to be here and they gave me extra dessert and then breakfast. If you are willing to spend some cash, eat at the dinning room that has a full tasting menu. I haven’t tried it but the tavern is well liked and cheaper, it offers a à la carte menu.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and lovely dishes in a great location
We were staying in the neighbourhood and booked in a late evening dinner. The service was great - staff knowledgeable and super attentive without ever being obtrusive. The food was delicious - good picks for our trio which included both adventurous and more basic tastes. Serving sizes were big - but we still opted for dessert because the choices were great!
Be the first to ReplyI Am Not A Foodie.
Full Disclosure: I am not a Foodie (I am a comfort-food-eating, meat-and-potatoes guy who does not like to see more plate than food). Feel free to skip past this review if you are not the same. My wife and I were traveling with a couple who like haute cuisine, and it was their turn to pick the eatery. We supped in the fancier dining room (not the tavern) and it was quite elegant. Our five-course meal started with a celery root mousse and granola concoction that was puzzling, at best. It was followed by the beet tartare, gnocchi and polenta courses which were all very good. I opted for the duck for my main course which was again, very good, but it was only one slice on a disproportionately large plate. The cheese cake dessert was delicious, but my wife said her chocolate mousse was too intense. Overall, I would give high marks for the staff (very nice and attentive), the food tasted very good (even for provincial like me); and, to my surprise, I was not hungry when I left. Was it worth over $250 per person including drinks (no wine)? Clearly, I am not a Foodie.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing quality and attention to detail. Worth every dollar!
Perfection. Amazing food. Superb service. That’s why even on Sunday night at 10pm it’s packed. The restaurant has two sections with main dining room with a Prefix Dinner at $165 per person 5 courses. And a tavern section with a-la-cart menu which can satisfy anyone. Prices are high but well justified given the attention to detail, finesse, ambiance and service. Just to put this in perspective for you: before we finished our two hour dinner here, there were four people serving us. This is one of my favorite restaurants in the whole NYC. Go here for any reason, romance to business.
Be the first to ReplyI will go back.
I’ve wanted to eat at Gramercy Tavern for the last couple of trips to NYC but it hadn’t worked out. I book a table of four in the Tavern itself, which had a wonderful and energetic feel to it. The Christmas decorations were very well done and made it feel special. Service was prompt if not clinical, drinks constantly refilled. We had the brick chicken which was absolutely amazing, pork shoulder which unfortunately was a bit dry and lacking in flavour as well as the burger which was great. To follow this up we had the chocolate pudding and spiced pumpkin sundae. The wine by the glass we’re very good, we had the white burgundy and the Pouilly-Fume from Loire. So far this was the meal of the trip.
Be the first to ReplyBest tasting menu in a long time
Food was amazing, service was quick, flowing. Every dish was so flavorful, unusual for a chefs tasting menu restaurants. Other tasting menus in New York look beautiful but they lack flavors. Depth of flavors in this restaurant is there in every dish. Highly recommend it. In my opinion no need to do add ons to tasting menu. I don’t think it’s worth it to do add ons.
Be the first to ReplyWonderfully classic experience
First time visit with a friend on a cold Monday evening - wanted a drink at the bar and we were able to get the last 2 seats - nice crowd for a Monday - beautiful interior - excellent service from the bartenders - didn’t eat - wine by the glass is pricey - $26 for the one selected by my friend
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the hype
I dined in the tavern on St Patricks day on our visit from England and was really looking forward to NY fine dining. Drinks at the bar and the ambience of the restaurant were delightful. Seated at a table near the entrance with quite a draught which was a problem for the ladies in our group. Wine list was extensive with wines from around the world, but most were 100-300 dollar bracket and an extremely limited number (count on one hand) were reasonably priced wines under 80 dollars. Summary not a balanced wine list in terms of cost. I had Steak Tartare which only way too describe was bland. The sauce on the side was like a mayonnaise with no bite to the taste so you ended up with creamy raw mince which meant i could not finish it. Different chefs may have their own interpretation of the classic menu but no capers, Worcestershire sauce etc and you can’t call it Tartare. Their signature dish was mushroom pot pie which was delicious but served on its own dish with no accompaniments , it gave the experience of eating a microwave TV dinner, albeit a great one. The staff were attentive and friendly but overall a disappointing evening and we had much better meals on our NY trip.
