A beautifully decorated restaurant that sits on top of the Gucci store on Rodeo Drive. The interior is absolutely stunning, from dishware to the layout of the restaurant, and to the floral aprons that the servers wear to match the menu front covers. I can imagine a bunch of fine, rich ladies coming here for afternoon tea or for over priced brunch on a nice spring day. Definitely has that upscale vibe, along with the wonderful service. The food was my most let down, very unfortunate. Our group went with the Cali State of Mind tasting menu, as we had a few people who liked truffles. If I learned anything from this experience, it's that truffles just aren't for me. I'm sure they were fine, but it just doesn't sit right on my palette. The food was just okay. Out of the 8+ dishes that we've had, my favorite were the two dessert items. The yuzu in the "Sgroppino" was a refreshing palate cleanser, and the mochi/pear/lychee combo in the "So I turned to the Garden of Love" was a delight.Ironically, at many of these upscale restaurants, I find that the amuse bouche dishes are actually some of my favorite little dishes, and that it sets the expectation bar pretty high. And in my cases, the courses turn out to be a let down. Here, unfortunately the amuse bouche were also just mediocre. I didn't taste anything new or anything that made me say "wow!" I had hoped that the course dishes would wow me, but sadly it's not a word I dropped this evening. Personally, I don't think the drive from Pasadena was worth it, and I don't think it fit the pricing point. Maybe I'll check out their brunch, but only if I'm in the neighborhood (but let's be real, I don't just 'hang out' on Rodeo Drive, lol!)
