This is our second time visiting Hanks and it is one of our favorite places to eat oysters!! The Salty Wolfes are the best! The atmosphere is great, the staff is great and the food is amazing so what else can we say about one of our favorite eateries. Don't forget to order the shrimp cocktails but watch out for the horseradish!!! Holy hell that will melt your face off!! We cant wait to get back out there and have more amazing memories!

Great oysters, raw and fried, and the lobster rolls were excellent, and so was the service, so if they can't get crabmeat at a reasonable price, then they shouldn't sell small plate griddled crab cakes made from mediocre crab meat that looks like the crab was put through the Crab-o-Maticโข. Show a little pride and take it off the menu or get better crab meat!

Stopped here for oysters and I'm so glad we did! We got a dozen oysters- they had 6 different kinds, so we got to try two of each. Also had the lobster roll and old bay fries- so delicious! Above all the service was amazing. Definitely a great spot to stop!
Be the first to ReplyJust perfect.
The freshest oysters, the food is splendid, the service is great, the interior is cozy. I will come back here every time I'm in DC.
Be the first to ReplyThe food were Soooooo Good but a lit bit too crowded.
You could even hear people's conversations.

Just dropped in for a friend of a friend's birthday party but the atmosphere was great, the drinks delicious, and the oysters fresh. Loud but cute quiet bar with limited seating. The outdoor seating looked awesome outfront with plenty of heaters to withstand the February cold. Look forward to coming back for more oysters and to try more of the menu.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent spot for seafood and quick, friendly service.
Especially enjoyed the oysters and lobster bisque.

We loved Hanks! Being from Louisiana we like to try lobster rolls (we Don't really get them in LA) when we are in places where they are popular and this was the best one we've had so far. We also had a sampler of oysters that were amazing and fresh. Our waitress was great, the hostess was great- will definitely come back if we come back to DC!

Erin and Eryk and the staff made this a welcoming experience! For such an established restaurant with incredible food the whole team made this so personalized! Thanks for a memorable night! Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyService was excellent.
Food was below standard. Salmon belly was lost in rather bland avocado and mango. Rockfish portion was small and on the edge of overcooked. I would have cooked the cauliflower longer. Only the oysters and drinks were up to par. I'll go back for oysters, but unlikely for dinner.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food.
We sat outside but it wasn't as bad as I thought. The warm temperatures and the people watching was great. My wife and I travel to DC often and will make Hank's a favorite.

The wait staff was super knowledgeable about the oyster types and origins and our food was delicious--especially the watermelon summer salad.

I went here for dinner last night, and I was honestly disappointed. Growing up near Florida beaches, I was so excited to try out an oyster bar and have some seafood. I was disappointed that the food was extremely mediocre. Absolutely nasty? No. Worth the price? Not at all. Would I go back? Most likely no, unless it was literally the only place left with a reservation open.Tried the oysters on a shell, fried oysters, veggie plate, and the schnitzel. It all was bleh. The cocktails also were watered down, couldn't even tell if it had alcohol in it. I was in all very disappointed when I left dinner.
Be the first to ReplyFor how expensive it is, and all of the great restaurants
For how expensive it is, and all of the great restaurants in DC, Hanks just isn't worth it. I got the daily punch to start with and it was super watered down. Then I got an old fashioned and it was the most basic old fashioned ever and wasn't very good- I could make a better one. We started with the fried oysters. They were okay, but had pieces of shell in them. Our entrees were super bland, and just not the best.

It was Wednesday evening. Our server was Jamie and she was nothing short of amazing! She was friendly, attentive, and helpful. We shared a soft shell crab appetizer, and I ordered a summer berry Negroni and the lobster roll. The cocktail was lacking the "summer berry" flavor, and the Campari was too overpowering for me. I wanted to try Hank's version of the drink to see if maybe the berry cut into the bitter of the Campari, but nope. I confirmed that Negroni just aren't my thing. No fault of Hank's, but if you're on the fence when it comes to bitter flavor in your drinks, I recommend skipping that one. The lobster roll was just what I had been hoping for. If I'm being picky, I would have loved more butter maybe to dip it in, but it was delicious just as it is. I'm a person who shies away from food that is still in the shape of the creature it was before it was turned into food on a menu. So when the soft shell crab arrived, I was hesitant to dig in. It was my first time trying it outside of crab mean already removed from the shell and mixed with other ingredients. This came fried up in a light batter. You could pick it up and bite into it without a fork but since we were sharing, we dug in with one. The sauce on the side is so good, I stole the rest to dip my fries in. Another favorite touch is the chocolate pieces at the end of the meal. All in all, I would come back. And I would most definitely come back if I were promised Jamie could be my server again!

Plentiful outdoor seating, interesting brunch menu, fast service, what more could you want? I might recommend choosing something other than the lobster roll. I prefer my lobster rolls to be mostly chunks of lobster, as opposed to this style, which was more of a lobster salad. There are options for everyone, even if you don't like seafood or prefer to eat vegetarian. On a previous visit, I had the mac and cheese as part of the 5-side meal (why isn't this a thing at more restaurants?), and it might have been the best mac and cheese I've ever had. Anyways, I'm mainly leaving this review because I want to know two things from a restaurant's website: the menu, and whether they have outdoor seating (and if so if it's covered/heated/etc). For reasons that are inexplicable to me in 2022, most restaurants including Hanks don't have information on outdoor seating. I'm pleased to report that the Dupont location of Hank's has plentiful covered seating, and it's even reservable.
Be the first to ReplyAlways good, fresh, delicious seafood.
The portion sizes could be better, but it's still great.

One stop on my many adventures between DC and MD was this restaurant. And I am glad I did. Me and my guest did not have a reservation so we opted to sit at the bar until a table was available. We came on a Saturday during brunch. The hostess was pleasant but Chad stole the show. His drinks were amazing. Mine was one he made up and it was sooooo good. Food was fresh and served quickly. Flavors were also on point. Our server was friendly and had excellent oyster recommendations. Very good. I definitely recommend and would come back.
Be the first to ReplyMet a friend who highly recommended Hank's.
Our server (sorry I don't know his name) was great. We shared calamari and the crab dip. Both were wonderful. My husband had the crab cake sandwich and I had a crab cake on a salad (thank you for accommodating my request). Unfortunately we both agreed that the crab cakes had little taste and we're very mushy. That said, I would of try Hank's again but try something different but definitely the crab dip! Yeah three yeah
Be the first to ReplyFood was mediocre Can beer was warm and margarita was awful.
This isn't real seafood like you'd think
Be the first to ReplyGreat place and atmosphere in this quaint location.
ย I wish I remembered our waiters name because he was great from the get go. ย His energy was amazing and made us laugh throughout. ย He took his time even though busy, to answer every question, offer suggestions and wine pairings, etc. ย The appetizers were very good one of which he recommended which was the crab dip. ย We also had the sampler of oysters which I recommend if you want a tasting of different ones. ย The entrees were good, but after the appetizers, we were a little underwhelmed with the flavor of the entrees. ย The lobster roll was good, and my bf got a seafood pasta which he just wished had more flavor or kick to it. ย All in all though, this was a great place from the people to the drinks to the food.

C and appreciate their capability to take walks in and the ease of making reservations online. It's located in a cute neighborhood and walking distance to other bars/restaurants.We were seated immediately and the atmosphere was lively. We placed our drink orders, with a recommendation from our waiter. The drinks were good and you can tell there was alcohol in them, unlink some restaurants I've visited. I had the chicken shitnel with mac and cheese and green beans. It was nothing spectacular. the chicken reminded me of a flattened chicken nugget. The green beans and mac and cheese saved the show. The mac and cheese had a smoked gouda in it that added a smoky flavor that made me think there was bacon in it. (I do not eat pork) but the waiter assured me there was no pork. My partner had the crab with mac and cheese and carrots. They stated, while the crab was fresh there wasnt much flavor. The breading was missing flavor. The carrots were a nice side with flavor and arrangement of colors. Same sentiments for the mac and cheese. Overall, for the price of the meal, you'd think we would be more satisfied.
Be the first to ReplyGrabbed a table outside with propane heaters.
A little pricey but because of location. Food was excellent and our server was very funny and good vibes! Would definitely return!

I'm a little late writing this review, but I couldn't let another day go by without writing about how wonderful the service was that I received. As I was alone, I sat at the bar. Saint, the bartender, was a wonderful host and great mixologist. He made me a few cocktails which were sooo delicious (my favorites were the Jalapeรฑo Margarita and the Veuve Carrรฉ). The best part of my experience was how affable, attentive, and knowledgeable Saint was. I can be a bit picky when it comes to how my drinks are made and how I'm treated. I will make sure to go back when he is working!

My first food review!! I came to town for a concert when I had the urge for oysters! I sat at the bar and immediately was offered the menu. The bartender with the dreads was welcoming and extremely helpful with narrowing down a drink for me! He also gave me a brief description of the oysters which was helpful(since I neverrr know which one to go with). I got the Freaking Catalina Wine Mixer and some Wellfleeter oysters. Delicious!!..the bathroom was clean also. I would definitely come back here!
