Harry's Bar Venezia Reviews from The Last Year
The bell has tolled
25 dollars is a lot to pay for a single drink. Even if you only hang out in the super luxe bars of New York and the Côte d’Azur I hope that all reasonable people can agree that 25 dollars…. for …. one… drink…. Is a lot. I am prepared to pay 25 dollars for a drink. Occasionally only, to be clear, for fear of penury. I prefer paying 6 dollars. But yes I am prepared to pay 25 dollars in the right circumstances. In return, I am expecting a great drink, excellent service, a fine and weighty glass, beautiful surroundings and perhaps some history. So Dukes in London, The Writers Bar in Singapore, the beautiful Charles H in Seoul. They tick all of these boxes. I love them all. And I am happy to pay for the privilege. I have been to Venice a fair bit and never been tempted to visit Harry’s Bar. Word was it did not justify these kinds of costs. Hemingway may have liked it just after the war, but the world has moved on since then. It was now just a tourist trap for the foolish and unwary. In a moment of weakness this week, on my way to dinner, walking past the door to Harry’s I succumbed. How bad could it be I thought to myself? It seems busy. The people in there didn’t all look like tourists; perhaps I had this wrong…. That moment of weakness was a mistake. This was apocalyptically bad. 52 dollars for two gin and tonics…. Deep breath … Gin. And. Tonic. Not some labour intensive, crushed artisan cocktail involving obscure aromatics and the knees of virgins…. But a gin and tonic. Not a choice of gins either. And I had to pour the tonic myself. Out of a can. That I had to open. Into …. What… not some chunky lead crystal glass that made me feel like a Bond villain….but rather the kind of dishwasher safe glasses petrol stations used to give away for free. In a room badly in need of a lick of paint, with all the decorative flair of a Warsaw Pact youth hostel (what is this colour?), tables jammed in like pins in a bowling alley - and guests bounced around nearly as much. And service as ice cool as … well I don’t know … but a smile from the staff required something more from me clearly. These are not so much first world problems as super first world problems. But we all get to choose how to spend our money. And my strong, strong recommendation is not to spend your money (or anyone else’s) in Harry’s Bar.
This place is an icon and a must visit.
Service is great and for such a little place, everyone really makes you feel welcome. This is the place that the Bellini was invented so that's a must. It is a bit expensive but how can anyone pass up a speak easy from the past. Influenced by American ideas but all Italian. Really enjoyed the place!

It was OUTSTANDING! Yes, €22 is a lot for a Bellini but you're paying for the experience. Outside of that (which I didn't mind - I wanted a Bellini where they were invented), you get more than you pay for. Everything, from the bread to the entrees to the dessert & service was wonderful. I enjoyed the amatriciana; interesting that it's a white sauce at Harry's rather than red. Our waiter pointed it out & offered to add tomato if I preferred red sauce. My son had a magnificent beef filet; at least 2 inches thick & cooked exactly as he requested. My husband had a deliciously light tagliolini with bacon in a cream sauce; said it was one of the best pasta dishes he's ever had. We went in as I wanted the Bellini. We ended up absolutely delighted with our dinner. What a wonderful experience!
I’m still thirsty!
I love visiting legendary establishments and have no qualms about paying over the odds for good food or drink. BUT I don’t like being ripped off. 24Euros for a whiskey sour that was smaller than a breakfast juice glass. Wanted to stop in for a cool refreshing drink but this experience barely wet my lips. Get a grip Harry’s Bar and stop ripping people off.
Not worth the $$$
We came here expecting the counterpart of Harry’s Bar in Paris and were sorely disappointed. I’m sure there’s some important/historical meaning behind this bar and the Bellini’s they kept serving but that’s not what we were here for. The ambiance was flat, there was no music, the tables were low, it was overcrowded and ridiculously overpriced. The average drink price was €24 when you can get cocktails in any bar for 1/4 of the price. Not to mention, the drink was the size of a sippy cup. Again, I’m sure there’s a reason many people come to this bar, but if you’re looking for the Venetian Harry’s from Paris or just to have an apperitivo before dinner, I wouldn’t recommend coming here.
Rude & ignorant
Determined to visit Harry’s Bar myself & four friends left a wonderful restaurant and wound our way to this ‘iconic’ spot only to come face to face with a deluge of ignorance & rudeness. Almost empty and pretty dinghy, we didn’t get one smile from the staff & were told we could only sit at the bar for our €24 drink! Understandable as we weren’t eating but a tad confusing as the place was empty! It took us less than two minutes to agree that no, we weren’t spending our money here & not because of the price but because of the blatant rudeness of the staff. Awful experience. Ignorant beyond belief.
A lot of Hype but not a lot of room
Popped in for a Bellini just to experience it as was told it’s a must do place. It was incredibly busy (but it was a Saturday afternoon) but managed to get a table fairly quickly. Had a Bellini each and left. It was a nice Bellini but as mentioned by many it was very pricey. As it was a special occasion we just accepted it. It was crowded but there are a lot of staff so food and drinks arrive very quickly. Was it as special as I thought it would be? No.
Overrated and Overcrowded
We arrived for lunch today without a reservation and were directed to one of only two tables available. Both tables were in the middle of an already overcrowded seating area. The restaurant was extremely hot and as we perused the menu we were constantly being bumped into by the waiting staff who were having to squeeze by the overcrowded tables. Needless to say we decided not to dine here ! We found a fabulous local restaurant which was far more appealing and comfortable with exceptional service and a very local clientele.
not worth a visit at all
ridiculously overprice for standard drinks service below average £28 for a smaller than usual cocktail no mats for you drinks over crowed are that like a vault in a bar. would not recommend or visit again

I think Harry's bar is Extremely overrated and beyond overpriced. I'd never come back. This was actually my least favorite dining experience during my 8 days in Venice.

Not worth the money!! Been there, done that!! 30 euro for a bowl of mediocre soup!! Two soups, 2 Bellini's and a bottle of water 131.00 euro!! We have had wonderful meals for half of that!!
An absolutely essential place to go.
..... Wonderful ambience, welcoming waitstaff, delicious drinks etc and Earnest Hemingway practically lived here during his writing years! You can feel the presence of so many historical figures and enjoy the pleasure yourself in present day Venice!
We went to Harry's Bar while in Venice.
We had the Bellinis and slice of cake. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. It was crowded. But we were able to get a table. Service was good Bellinis and cake were spot on.
Best bar I have ever been to.
Period the people that work here are the best of the best at what they do, and they work hard and maintain an ambience of class and execute to perfection.
Totally over rated.
Snooty staff who wouldn't seat me in the upstairs window, which was wide open the whole time I was there, of which I had requested months in advance. Bellini wasn't a patch on those found at The Gritti Palace or Restaurant Terrazzo Danieli. Certainly won't waste my time next time. Food wasn't all that, either. Most disappointed.

Cannot wait to go back to Venice! Harry's was an experience like no other and the Bellini's are my favorite drink. Love the appetizers that come out right away. Staff is so kind

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
