A Great Find in Nashville
Outstanding find about 5 miles from downtown Nashville. Free parking across the street. Named after the owner’s grandmother and located in the fellowship hall of the adjacent church. The seats were reused pew seats. Staff were great and the owner very welcoming. I had the fish and my wife had the chicken- small menu. We ordered the bread (extra) and it was worth it. Daily baked focaccia with a butter/buttermilk spread. Good reasonable wine list. Hard not to like this restaurant.

I had the pleasure of dining at Hathorne for dinner. It is a hidden gem between two other establishments. It could be overlooked and it shouldn't be. It has a lovely outdoor seating area for dining alfresco. Inside is spacious with seating that is not too tightly packed. The ceilings are very high. With the expanse of the dining area, it is quiet. There is not an abundance of white noise. This is a great place for friend and family dining as you can talk and hear one another without feeling over stimulated with noise. The food is excellent. The menu is abundant in vegetable forward meals. I had two small plates and one large plate. The Tortellini was soft, packed well and presented nicely. It was three large pastas. When they were finished, I was looking for more. The crispy sweet potato small plate was just that crispy. It was also creamy on the interior. The flavor was enhanced with the salad and sauce served with it. The Schnitzel (large plate) was extremely crunchy. The pureed sweet potatoes and lime crema mixed with the chicken well. Large abundant amounts of food on all three dishes. The employees were kind and efficient. This is a restaurant that I will return to have a meal when in Nashville. I recommend Hathorne highly and will encourage friends visiting Nashville, to plan a visit here.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth it.
Very pricey but missed on some of the items. Fococcia with ricotta cheese was the best item we had. The food was picturesque but missed on temperature (cold Wagyu steak), undercooked black eyed peas, oversalted beets, smelly fish. We were just not happy but as a guest of the family, I didn't want to complain. Great building but very loud. For the price and reputation, I expected more. I think burger night would be better.

Really lovely patio setting. Great food and great service really made my friends birthday dinner a nice time. Would recommend to any friend.
Be the first to ReplyOur go-to for excellent food and cocktails
Whenever we're home in Nashville (and we travel about 6 months of the year), I find some reason to visit Hathorne, if only to take advantage of the Happy Hour! You can't beat $10 cocktails in this day and age, and they are so tasty and smooth. We always get the crispy goat cheese, as well as several other small plates (to share - or not), and then share a large plate. My husband has a big appetite, but he graciously agrees to share a big plate with me, and I find that it then is just the perfect amount. Every single time we've been here, we're impressed with the friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the very rapid service from both the bar and kitchen. Well done y'all!

After a nearly 10 hour drive on I-40 - in the rain - from OKC, my wife & I needed a quiet, relaxing place to eat. We stumbled on Hawthorne’s and everything was exactly what we had hoped for. Welcoming. Unique. Food was simply amazing! This place is on our Forever list.

We absolutely loved our dining experience at Hawthorne. It is always fun when the owner is there and is able to tell the stories and how the restaurant was dreamed, created and named after his grandmother. Fantastic southern experience! Thank you !
Be the first to ReplyTerrible experience hair in Pork ribs
I don't like to leave negative reviews but the experience here requires it, the ambience of the place is nice and everything would have been fine until my gf found a black piece of hair approximately 2 inches long in her meal, this was brought up to the waiter who after a brief discussion said he would send the manager, this is where the problem began the manager could not have been more unprofessional if he tried, he first asked my gf was she sure it was not her own hair I stepped in and pointed out the piece of hair was approximately 2 inches and black my gf has very long blonde hair, I pointed out I have blonde hair aswell so maybe it's mine, I was sarcastic at that point as I was annoyed and surprised at the stupid question, the manager then became very condescending and rude which caused me to raise my voice and then he claimed he felt threatened and I was being abusive and he does not have to deal with this, I was not abusive but I did raise my voice, he then stated "perhaps it's best you settle your bill and leave sir before we call the authorities". Whilst this threat did not concern me I was happy to pay the bill and leave, when paying the bill the lady was the opposite to the manager and was very cordial and offered a reduction on the $17 for the pork ribs with hair in it, I declined and paid the full bill, I was travelling at the time so am not a local but if I was I would never return here, hair in food happens on occasion but accusing the customer of it being their hair is condescending and rude the manager of this bar was a disgrace.

Chef John Stephenson and his staff are consummate professionals. The food and the service are extraordinary! Definitely a destination restaurant and a memorable experience for me and my family.
Be the first to ReplyLOVE Hathorne! Can't miss.
As a 'local' (I've lived here for almost 13 years), I am so glad Hathorne is nearby - for date nights, to take visiting friends and family, or just for a happy hour drink, they never disappoint. The changing menu is always perfect for the season, and we always try something new. Their cocktails are probably my favorite in this city or any other. Absolutely delicious, creative, beautiful, and reasonably priced - what more could you ask for? We are always greeted very kindly, taken care of by their incredible hosts, wait staff, and bartenders, and leave very happy. In the summertime I love sitting on their beautiful patio. 10/10 recommend this jewel!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious small plates
I can't believe this fantastic restaurant is still seemingly flying below the radar. We especially love going to places with multiple and varied small plates, because we can have bites of so many different flavors. Their cocktails remain super smooth and well balanced (and very nicely priced at Joyful Hour). I'm very glad that several reviewers mentioned the crispy goat cheese. Oh my! Crunchy, gooey deliciousness! The other dishes we thoroughly enjoyed were the beef tartare, peas and tomatoes ,watermelon salad and ended with the special of the night - a bacon cheeseburger. Prices seem to be on par with other restaurants, and the $10 special cocktails put the cherry on top. Service was friendly and prompt. We'll definitely be back!

Driving cross country and picked this restaurant for menu and location. Will return for chef and service (as well as the excellent cocktails). The fried goat cheese and pappardelle were excellent and we'll be back to try the larger plates. Thanks for a great dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyHathorne and their attention to details
Our family of three enjoyed a variety of plates at Hathorne. The charred sourdough and crispy goat cheese were delicious starters. We then shared a smoked scallop agnolotti, duck crepinette served with elderberry jus and charred endive, and a rice crusted grouper accompanied with English peas, pearl onion white asparagus and pea emulsion. The grouper dish was our favorite. The meal ended with coffee and an herbal tea along with brioche doughnuts. Delightful ambiance and a well seasoned server also made for a special time at Hathorne.

Wow! The service, atmosphere and FOOD were amazing!!! The goat cheese, shallot agnolotti, escargot and chicken were so very good!! We will definitely be back!!
Be the first to ReplyLeft a little disappointed
Hathorne is a beautiful restaurant and I was very excited to visit. We made a reservation 2 months ahead of our visit. We arrived and entered a beautiful space with high ceilings and pretty decor. We were seated right across from the door and hostess stand which was probably the worst table. This was a bummer but on to the experience.
Our drinks took forever. Our server did stop to apologize but wow did we wait too long! Drinks were fine but nothing that special. We ordered a few apps. They were all very good and the sauce that came with the potatoes was amazing! For entrees we shared the flank steak, chicken schnitzel, lamb & peach agnolotti and slow roasted salmon. The salmon was incredible; literally melted in your mouth. The pasta and chicken were both pretty good. The flank steak was a too rare and very chewy. We didn't bother with a second drink or dessert. With all the great options in Nashville, I would not return.
Great Find!
What an amazing find. We found out about this place and have wanted to try it for awhile. We finally went tonight and were so glad we did. The food, service and ambiance were wonderful. We dined inside, but the outside patio area looked very inviting as well. We ordered the sour dough with 'nudja which is a salami kind of spread, as well as the frites (crispy potato slices with a seasoned sauce on the side) which both were wonderful. For our main course we ordered the red fish and flank steak which were both cooked perfectly. Our experience has been that getting steak prepared correctly at a non-steakhouse is hit or miss, and finding a restaurant in Nashville that can cook fish without drying it out is hard to find. Hathorne prepared both excellently. We HIGHLY recommend Hathorne!
Be the first to ReplyA great find
Phenomenal dinner. We tried 11 different menu items, plus some great cocktails and beers and all were excellent. Hard to pick the best, but the sweet potatoes with grapefruit, chicken schnitzel and pierogi with parsnips stood out. Go get there. You won't be sorry.
Be the first to ReplyJoyful Hour makes me happy
Joyful Hour runs 5 -7 pm Mon. through Sat., which makes it super easy to get to from the outer 'burbs, on Sat. All the drinks are $1-2 less than usual, and the "bites" menu is only available then. The Ricotta toast was my favorite, with charred sourdough and baby kale on the soft, homemade ricotta drizzled with sorghum. We enjoyed listening to the Pork Cracklin's continue to crackle in the bowl for quite some time after it was delivered while we were happily crunching away. The mole they were served with gave an awesomely deep flavor to the cracklin's. The house pickles were quite too tart for me, but my husband devoured them. I was very pleased to find the cocktails as beautifully smooth and tasty as on our first visit. We tried several new ones (to us), and were happy with all our choices.
It was fun and interesting to sit at the bar, watching all the staff fly around, keeping everyone served and satisfied. We were very happy with our service also. We'll definitely be back, to try new menu offerings (hopefully with each new season?).
Lovely Dinner
This restaurant is in a converted old church and is located in Sylvan Park, the neighborhood where I live. Upon arrival the owner, a very gracious man, greeted us and made us feel welcome. The atmosphere is casually elegant and the service was prompt. We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and dinner. The parking is not ideal but would not keep us away again.

We had a great evening all around. The service, food and wine are all well orchestrated. It's no surprise given the experience the owner brings to the table quite literally. I look forward to spending some time at the bar during cocktail hour as I hear good things.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious dinner on Valentine's Day
My husband and I had dinner at Hathorne for Valentine's Day last week, and we really enjoyed our meal. We started with the shaved Brussels (with black walnut vinaigrette, currants, apple, and Feta). It was a large portion and very good. I didn't get the apple at all, so maybe it could be in larger chunks in the salad. A dish I liked very much, and a good, light start to the meal. We then shared the winter squash with mole, salsa seca, and red onion, which we both loved. Salsa seca is a dry salsa of nuts and seeds. The mole was DELICIOUS. I'd eat this dish again in a heartbeat. A great vegetable dish. After that we shared the roasted golden beets with tahini & charred green onion puree, Parmesan, and olive oil, which was also really, really good. These two vegetable dishes were easily the highlights of our meal. I love when a vegetable dish can be the star of a meal, and Hathorne's vegetable small plates really impressed. For our entree, we shared one of the smaller - spicy lamb and beef meatballs with mint pistou, pequin chile dust, and preserved lemon. I didn't get the pequin (although I saw it) or the preserved lemon (didn't see it) at all, but the dish was good. Definitely simple, definitely small, but you couldn't call those meatballs dry! For dessert, we shared an espresso panna cotta with roasted pear and a brown butter caramel. The espresso and pear pairing wasn't something that made a ton of sense to me when I read it, but the dish was scrumptious. I'm a huge fan of panna cotta, and this was a good one. Rich, but a small portion, and very delicious. The restaurant is in a former fellowship hall off a church, and it's beautiful without being too "look at me look at me" like so many Nashville restaurants now. It had great ambiance without seeming like it was trying too hard. The service was also great. If you live in Nashville, check it out. A delicious meal.
Be the first to ReplyBland Food, street parking only
We tried four of the server's favorite dishes - 2 entrees and 2 sides- and only thought one of them was really tasty (the sweet potatoes). I had to ask for the salt shaker everything was so bland.
