The bbq here is excellent.
Always a long line so be prepared to wait. Service here is great. We had an incident with some guys had a waiter told my lady that she can't save the table even though I was in line ordering the food. So they took the table my lady was sitting at in the shades. So I spoke the the manager Nick. He was very professional and apologetic. He made things right. Other than the incident, we still enjoyed the food and feel the staff here are awesome. Nick the manager was great. He knows how to treat customers. Delicious food. Great atmosphere

So highly recommend ! Drove down from Las Vegas and they did not disappoint ! I am originally from Texas and this is the best BBQ I've had in a long time ! Lines were really long took 11/2 hours but dare I say, was worth the wait ! Super friendly staff and nice music to enhance the vibe . Loved how they set up free water and help yourself to left over cartons . Will be back !!!
Be the first to ReplyI cant give you any more stars unfortunately.
This place is an absolute gem when it comes to authentic BBQ. I've had bbq before many times even down in Texas and this is the real deal. Jose was great and welcoming. The food again 10/10 bring your wallet and a extra stomach!!!! Ribs on point , brisket super bomb get the extra fatty pieces thank me later.

Ordered the rib sliders, not sure why they are called rib sliders when they use brisket; other than the misnomer, I feel it was a solid dish, there were 3 sliders, the meat to bun ratio was good and the meat was the perfect balance of crispy and tender pieces. At $15 it was pricy but it delivered. I took home 1 LB of brisket, a 1/2 LB pork ribs, jalapeño cornbread muffins, Mac and cheese and coleslaw. The ribs and the brisket were delicious, the smoke ring was solid, the ribs had a slight tug at the bone before sliding off and the brisket had enough fat to keep it juicy but at $34 a LB, didn't tilt the scale with pricy scrap. I wasn't a fan of the Mac and cheese or coleslaw, to me both were too garlicky. The coleslaw was more fatty than creamy, whatever they use clung to the greens like cold butter rather than dressing them and the use of micro greens was odd in my opinion. The Mac and cheese separated from the oil when stored so I reheated the Mac and cheese it was an oily mess. I liked the cornbread muffin but I don't know that I'd shell out another $6 for one. If you are ok with garlicky sides and dropping some change on what's supposed to be poor folk food, this joint knows how to 'queue.

Everything tasted perfect. We live further away so when we get a chance to stop by, we're all in!Brisket - Top notch. Seasoned perfectly. Smoked beautifully. Must try! Ribs - Juicy, tender, falling off bone, smoked. What else could you ask for? Tri-tip - Well seasoned, soft and tender. Char-siu pork belly - Well seasoned, great flavorPulled pork - Delicious Mac and cheese - Another hit! Beans - Got big chunks of burnt ends and flavor is amazing! Expect to be in a line, but definitely worth the wait. Service is quick as these guys are pros. Great to bring the family to soak up some sun and eat some great BBQ.
Be the first to ReplyJust amazing, must experience for yourself.
Make it a day and enjoy all of what San Juan Capistrano has to offer. I recommend grabbing a coffee and getting in line early. Even more enjoyable with a group of friends.

I've been wanting to try this place forever and I finally made it down there for a visit. We picked a late time though which made me nervous since I read they do sell out. I got in line for my group at 1ish and we ordered by 2ish so it does take about an hour. The line never shortened while we were there on a Sunday. The meats are all by the pounds and all the sides are a la carte. It would be nice to have combos though bc the sides are big even for the small. If you could just give me 1/2 the size for less, that would have been nice. I opted for ribs to take home. (2 ribs for ~$16) and I got a deconstructed pork sandwich. I tried to save them the bun but they had to give it to me, so I just threw it away, oh well. The meat was tender and the picked veggies were nice. The BBQ sauce is a little on the sweeter side but I needed some for my ribs which I found out after I got home, there weren't any in the box. Whomp whomp. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed their meals and thought it was good. The brisket was tender and juicy. The chilaquiles we would skip since the chips were really soggy, or get them on the side, no crunch whatso ever but that's personal preference. Just wish they were closer. ;)SYOY!

The smoked Chicken and Brisket and Mac n cheese are 10/10! Get there when it opens because it sells out often
Be the first to Replydelicioso food but seriously get there early.
We got there 30 minutes after it opened and they were out or chicken

Place opened at 1130 my wife made us get there at 1030 and there was already a line with some guests with beach chairs camping out. Once they opened the line went by fairly quickly u less patrons had multiple questions. I like how once you order the meats they weigh it before you go to your table so you know if it's enough for your party. We ended up ordering more than enough but that meant delicious leftovers for later. Everything tasted great! I would say it was a bit on the saltier side but nevertheless delicious. Could have skipped on the potato bread which was meh. Brisket was melt in your mouth good. The bbq is so tasty without being drenched in sauce. The meat spoke for itself here. Lots of outdoor seating so keep in mind for rainy days. Dog friendly.

Was told by a friend to visit this place as it's really good and I can't say that I'd recommend. I didn't have a great experience. One, this place is super expensive...I mean, way overpriced for what you get. I got the pork sandwich. Yes, portions are good sized, but what I didn't like is the amount of fat that was in my sandwich. I don't mind some fat, but when I take a bite and its nothing but goopy mush, why am I paying $30 for a meal for fat? Pork was pretty bland. Not enough bbq sauce ratio to the amount of meat. My slow roasted pork I do at home is better flavored than the sandwich I had.Staff was a bit rude when I was deciding what to eat and to pay. I wanted to like this place so bad as I've been looking for a good spot for BBQ, but definitely won't be back for how much

Service and food cannot be beat! Best barbecue I've ever had in my life! I love the way they're always adding new items to their menu there will be a wait in line but it is worth it!
Be the first to ReplyThis BBQ is the best I have had.
... Definitely with the drive.... From chicken, to tri tip and ribs amazing!!!
Be the first to ReplyDon't know what all the hype is all about.
Barbeque pulled pork, beans and slaw were all good. At best maybe a small step above other barbeque spots. Location was okay, if you like watching traffic going by. I know rent may be a bit high, but the prices were a let-down!!

As much as I'd like to keep this place on the down-low, I find it my moral obligation to recognize and applaud people who do their job well. This place is incredible. I've been all over the South eating and trying new and different BBQ, and I understand that BBQ varies greatly from region to region, but what they are doing here is incredible. I had the pulled pork sandwich, the pork spareribs, brisket, Texas chili and watermelon salad (had to sample the menu a little haha). Nothing was even average. Everything was excellent. It is so rare to find a place that claims they are Texas style and then actually produce real, quality results. Solid black pepper flavor, no bean chili, oak fuel, vinegar base sauce, quality brisket, spare rib with the membrane on, cooked on an offset stick burner, served on butcher paper over a tray. Blew my fricken expectations out of the water. I'm so tired of the typical SoCal, loser, flavorless BBQ spots that cook their crap in commercial smokers or worse, and serve it with some Kansas City style sugar sauce garbage. This place is the real deal. There just isn't a substitute for what they are doing here. I'm going to say it: Best BBQ I've ever had in California. What I also like is that they threw in a subtle Mexican/San Juan Cap flair to it. Example: Brisket tacos, elote, tri-tip. Next time I go, which will be soon, I am getting a dino beef rib. When a BBQ spot has the balls to put a beef rib on the menu you know they mean business. Most places don't even believe in their ability enough to consider beef ribs on their menu. My only regret was not buying more leftovers for the work week. Congratulations Heritage on such an incredible program start to finish. You've gained a customer for as long as those 1000 gallons draw smoke and those doors are open. Absolutely incredible.

I love smoking with my Traeger at home and have gotten pretty good at it. I read up on this place and it's history and decided to try it out. Ordered their sausage, spare ribs, brisket, queso, peppers, bread, pickles and banana pudding. Meat was perfectly smoked and brisket was phenomenal. Same can be said with the spare ribs. Can't wait to come here with family and/or friends. Also has a good choice of local brews.

Ok so good tastes great and the service also good but as everyone says it's very expensive. As it shows in the picks that one plate cost 122.00. It's called Texas bbq but portion size is no where near, and please add more shade so Pelops can sit down and eat. Lot of places open to the sun and in summer days very hard to eat in the heat.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is way overpriced for what you get.
It's ridiculous to pay $100 for lunch. Most of the food was greasy and was fatty. The brisket did pass the fold test, and the pork ribs had bite through meat, but I didn't care for the seasoning. The best thing was the mac and cheese. I guess the tourists don't mind paying outrageous prices, but I do. I'll stick to Blake's in Anaheim for my BBQ fix.

The hubby and I checked out SJC one Saturday and followed the smoke coming out of the smoker and smells of beef and porky goodness wafting through the air. There was a line about 20 people deep on a Saturday at 1pm. It took longer than it should've because 2 large parties in front of us all paid individually . We wanted to try a bit of everything so we ordered 1/4lb of tri tip, a single pork spare rib, 1/2lb of beef brisket, a sausage link and a small summer slaw and a small Hawaiian Mac potato salad. The total was a little over $70 before tip and adding a Mexican coke. The brisket was very tender and seasoned well. The tri tip was my husband's favorite, the sausage was superb and sliced in really thin pieces which I liked and the spare rib was my least favorite. It was thick and not very tender. The summer slaw was bright, fresh and had a bit of crunch but the aftertaste was weird so I only had a couple of bites. The Hawaiian potato Mac salad was awesome! It had bits of pickled cucumber and carrots then topped with sesame seeds and roasted nori. It was so yummy and my favorite bite of the day. The barbecue sauce was tangy and had a kick to it while the mustard they provided for the sausage was really good. The seating is all outdoor with a mix of shaded and in the sun. A decent place to eat and people watch.

This place has been in my bookmarks forever and it was definitely worth the wait! We came for Saturday lunch so we expected a wait. It took about 45 minutes in line to order but after ordering, our food came out in 5 minutes. We got a little bit of everything: Pork ribs, brisket, sausage, elote, mac and cheese, BBQ beans, and a banana pudding. The brisket and ribs were our favorite and all the sides were delicious. Seating can be hard for bigger groups but there is a good flow so it won't be difficult to find spots to sit.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding! Stopped here today on our way down the coast
Outstanding! Stopped here today on our way down the coast and had some of the best BBQ I've had in Southern California. I've eaten barbecue in Dallas, San Antonio, New Orleans, Memphis, and much-famed Austin. Let me be clear. Heritage Barbecue is on par with the best in the south and in some cases surpasses in quality and inventiveness of their side dishes. For meats, we had the brisket (amazingly tender and a great crust), pulled pork taco (fabulous and over-stuffed). Our sides were brisket beans (so Smokey and flavorful), Elote (knockout), and the spring vegetables which were smoked onions, peppers, carrots, fresh peas, arugula, all on a bed of the best beets I've ever had in my life. I could eat that side dish all day every day and never get sick of it. Adjacent Capistrano Brewing had a great selection that complimented the barbecue well, and they played great music. I'm so glad we stopped here. Everyone was incredibly friendly and gracious and can't wait to return.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is absolutely amazing and worth the price.
Some of the items are not gluten free, but the staff is extremely helpful with navigating through their menu. I love elote and theirs is pretty dang good. Their brisket and beef ribs are incredible. If their smoked duck is ever available, definitely get it - soooo good.Keep in mind, there will almost always be a line. Make sure to bring some sunscreen and water.

Came here for the first time and I have to say this is the best bbq I have found in SoCal. I lived in TX and love good bbq and this place is quite comparable. We had the pulled pork and brisket, both were tender. My biggest complaint was the prices, simply outrageous that we paid nearly $90 for the two of us to eat no more than a pound of meat! If you plan on eating here be prepared to pay a pretty penny
Be the first to ReplyAmazing TX style BBQ.
Everything I have had here is excellent. Everything. Only outside seating. Food is available until it sells out which they do regularly. Probably best food in South Orange County. Definitely worth the line and the hassle. It's an experience I would heartily recommend.

A delicious BBQ spot in SoCal! We were only able to snag an order of brisket on a Saturday afternoon, as most items were sold out. The brisket was yummy - tender and flavorful. If you are looking for a quality BBQ joint, this place is definitely worth a shot.I will have to come back to try their ribs and their mac and cheese!Beware of the wait though! We ordered online for pickup between 2-3 pm, and our order was not ready until about 3:40 pm.
