I tried the tasting menu.
The presentation and wine selections were absolutely stunning. But I feel like the presentation overpowers the food overall. The food was okay and not amazing as I thought it would be.

Had an absolutely fabulous meal at Hide, my best during this trip to London. To begin with, Hide has a lovely bar in the basement floor. Really nice ambiance and great selection of top shelf liquor. Lively, but not overly crowded. We had dinner in the room on the top floor. Tables well spaced and a nice view of Piccadilly. Appetizers were all excellent but mine, the soft shell crab with a Thai green chile sauce was spectacular. The crab was crispy but not dry and the sauce had just the right amount of heat. The mains were also excellent. The halibut perfectly cooked with a nice sauce. I hit the jackpot with the loin rib of venison that was amazing. Cooked to the perfect temperature, with a killer juniper berry sauce. We just had one dessert, the quince tart, with an amazing crust and tasty small scoop of ice cream, which was the perfect accompaniment. Service was top notch and the wine list one of the best in London. Great range of selections, many of which are well aged. Sommelier was very, very knowledgeable and happy to assist. Just a great dining experience that I highly recommend.

Very cool restaurant with beautiful interiors and the food to go along with it. We went for brunch and ordered a couple of items below in the photos. And everything was excellent. We had the truffle eggs and toast which was good and also had the Croque Monsieur and added truffles. If I got the Croque Monsieur next time I don't think I would add the truffles though. It would be excellent without. I also had 2 cappuccino's one with the normal coffee and the other with a specialty coffee from Colombia and both were fantastic. The one from Colombia was a little stronger. Overall I would go back in a heartbeat to try more items. And try one of the other floors.

This visit, the courses were timed perfectly without any long gaps in service. The wine pairings were excellent and nicely complemented the delicious food. I highly recommend Hide!
Be the first to ReplyHide is on the edge of Green Park.
It is a beautiful and novel setting with lots of wood. The lower bar is charming, somewhat chalet themed. The wine cellar down there is amazing and you can ask for a tour with the sommelier. We ate a variety of dishes, fish mostly which was served beautifully. It merits is Michelin Star.

Well. The place is beautiful. The food was spectacular. The charcuterie of meats was served on a slab of slate with thin cuts of cured lamb, duck, beef and pork. The mackerel tartare with a lovely gratinee that melted into a lovely sauce came on a smoking icy display of seaweed. Well done on the drama. The others that had the pasta and the scallop appetizers were wowed. Our mains: The John Dory was was wrapped in a thin zucchini flower. So delicate and beautiful with the pale orange and green veins enveloping a perfectly cooked piece of fish. The sauces complimented nicely too. The duck was delicious and the lamb amazing. Reports at the table gave the octopus two thumbs up. Everything was prepared to perfection. The desserts--omg! The banana milkshake with the crisp ice cream bites! The best best best was the warm acorn cake with a warm salted caramel sauce doused in a liqueur of your choice--we went with a delicious smoky mezcal. Very well done!! Now comes the "but." The service. It felt like a soft opening. No one but the female sommelier could get their act together. We sat 45 min before a waiter approached to take an appetizer order. Uh . . . How about cocktails???? We gently asked for a cocktail menu and wine list. They brought an I pad --one I pad for a table of 5. Well that took a while. We ordered some apps, enjoyed the delicious bread basket and olives and settled in. There was a big gap before dinner came, but we were ok. It's just that we had two servers serving us, so we did not know whom we asked for what. The som was professional, so helpful and lovely. She served red and white, apologized for the wrong glasses (really? Michelin star reviewer, did you not order wine? I felt her pain) and tracked down a cocktail that was ordered 30 minutes before (and brought two). The waiters dress like busboys and the busser/water refiller was in a suit (and super wonderful). A bit confusing at the start. So--go for the food and as my son said to me, "chill" and enjoy. But this NYer says someone called in sick. Also--no one came to the table to ask if things were good/cooked properly etc.
Be the first to ReplyWe had an amazing dinner at the Hide restaurant today.
From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by the elegant uniqueness of the dining room. We were given a table in the upper room, so we got to use the beautiful wooden staircase. We started with a flat bread appetizer (amazing!), then I opted for deconstructed vegetable lasagna (to die for!) and my husband ordered their lamb dish (he loved it!). Our side dishes were broccoli with vinaigrette and baby potatoes- both side dishes were full of unique flavors and were very tasty. Our dessert was the blueberry cobbler with amazing homemade ice cream. The dessert was just as divine and the cherry flavored black tea was absolutely amazing. We were literally blown away by how amazing the Hide restaurant was.

Food was good but not amazingly good as I would've expected from a starred place. I had the duck which was good, and the signature nest egg, which was too umami for me. The service was also slightly disorganized for such an establishment.

As reassuringly expensive ( think ยฃ300/head for five course tasting menu+ matched flight of wines) as you would want from a fashionable restaurant in Mayfair. The food varies from excellent to really very good. Service is friendly but precise- in particular I would commend the sommelier. She took care to answer all of our questions ( quite apart from doing a very good job). Design is also a big feature, from the architect Alex Haw's hallmark sweeping staircase, to the artful partial views into the kitchens. One to go to with someone you really like, particularly if someone else is paying.
Be the first to ReplyGreat staff and service.
Beautiful dining room and artfully plated dishes. The food was good, but sadly didn't match the level of it's surroundings. The flavors were boring. Had the soft shelled crab, lamb and elderflower baba. The crab needed more depth, the lamb was well made but tasted like lamb from any mediterranean restaurant and the flavors and texture of the baba didn't really mesh.

Ok this place is def fancy so for a nice fancy breakfast next to the park amongst fancy people it's a good option. You're going to see your average bored wealthy types who prob didn't earn their money but think they are important. The service is very good. The food is beautiful....but the taste of things didn't quite match. The croissant was amazing! Like shattering glass on the outside and fluffy and chewy inside. They bring you this lemon butter and different jams that were great.Teas and coffees amazing! The Avocado toast was meh. Your average hipster coffee shop could crush it.The fruit salad was depressing the fruits were all flavorless.God I sound like such a whiny beeyotch. The place is beautiful, the crowd there made me feel like a poor person, the pastries seem the way to go for sure and I think I might go again for fun.

The final food I would be purchasing in London during my trip. One Michelin Star, customizable tasting menu, great buzz, sounded like a winner. So we get here super early, actually, and took about 60 seconds to find the front door, because it was hidden, but they have a bar downstairs, called Below Hide, which had some nice mocktails, so we killed some time there. At the time of our reservation, we were lead up two flights of their absolutely gorgeous stairs to our section, Above at Hide. We got seated and started carefully making our decisions. Because this was another wonderful London restaurant where, for the majority of the courses, we got a choice of which dish we wanted. Love the options. There were five- and seven- course options. We chose the five. The seven seemed to be a cheese plate and another dessert, which we would have loved to have, but I don't know, guess we weren't feeling it that night. The whole experience started with Gem, Bread & broth, and Flesh & bone. Three little bites. Gem was a leaf of lettuce, with the purpose of being dipped in some grain or nuts or something, I can't remember, and to be used as a chip to that dip. It was fun. The bread was really good. Five very distinct varieties of bread in a basket, with a fine dollop of butter on a plate. Always love bread. And the Flesh & bone was the most striking presentation. Fancy pork/beef, charcuterie style, wrapped around the ends of feathers, and what looked like a bone. Quick bite, one and done. Delicious, fun. A great start. Another small dish was the Turnip with pine nuts, honey & eucalyptus. Finely cut up strips of turnip soaking in a honey eucalyptus broth. Very clean tasting, like a palate cleanser. The last little small bite that we both had the same thing, before the dishes started differing was the Nest egg. This was a slowly, barely cooked egg mixed with super delicious mushrooms, served in a brown egg that had it's top cut off. Needless to say, very fun, very delicious. I wasn't to break the egg to lick the inside of the shell, because I wanted more. Then, our tasting menu truly began. And unfortunately, their menu has already changed, so I have no idea what I ate. I say unfortunate, but I actually love that their menu is super seasonal, and probably changes frequently. But I do know that I had an excellent monkfish in a dashi broth, a nice lobster in a cream sauce, a perfectly cooked dusk with some black currents, and another sweetbread. There were also a couple of nice desserts, a fresh fruit one with some homemade ice cream, and there was a very pretty pasty, made to look like a gemstone. Great fun.Our last, shared small bites, were the Chestnut & malt pillows and the Acorns. Nut-filled, chewy nougat. And a crispy pillow full of dessert stuff I don't remember what is was, but it was fun, it was light, and it was a good way to wind down from the meal. We paid the bill, got our cake-home baggy full of delicious cookies, and left.Overall, this was a fun journey. I don't know how long this place has had the One Star, but they definitely seem like they're pushing for that second Star. Who knows. But yes, five stars. Come here.
Be the first to ReplyI really wanted to like this place.
The servers and sommeliers were superb. The appetizers and nest egg were creative and delicious but I felt the main entrees felt too busy, with clashing tastes. They started off with bread ( I loved the black pudding) , lettuce and beet juice that all tasted great. The turnip served in the broth was excellent despite served cold. However, the main dishes were quite the opposite to the appetizers and desserts in that they were unbalanced. the Chilean sea bass with the pear did not pair well in fact did not go well together at all and the scallops was just ok. My venison was tough and the flatbread was soggy and the wagyu was just ok. We did the 5 course menu but we were so full we skipped the optional cheese menu. As for desserts the tarte tartin is very sweet but goes pairs well with the ice cream which balances it out. The rhubarb tartlet was ok but I found the pastry portion too delicate. The tarte tartin won for me. Tbh I wish the nest egg could be it's own a la carte bc I find it unique and it sucked we had to do the tasting in order to get the nest egg. The tasting menu and the regular a la carte menu are quite different.
Be the first to ReplyThis one-star Michelin star restaurant is a find.
Teh mussel custard, chicken (yes chicken) and papillete vegetarian dishes were all delicious. Service was helpful and efficient. The total spend with tip was 163 pounds for two which did not include alcohol, but expresso and sparkling water. Bread was 9 pounds. For the money, the quality was high, and meal was more than worth the spend.
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to love this place, but food was only okay.
Service was terrible. When I looked at the menu online I was drooling. The appetizer and desserts alone made me want to try this place. Upon arriving the unique dรฉcor and style catches your eye. From the hidden door to the winding staircases this place has a very cool vibe. The highlight of the appetizers was the scallops. Very nice strong flavor. The flatbread was disappointing and the crab was only okay. Both the lobster and the duck were very tasty. Well worth the time. The desserts, what I was really looking forward to, were only okay. The coconut rice pudding thing was overly sweet and tasted like something from a grocery store. The acorn cake was nice, but I personally wasn't a fan. Cheese course was nice, but nothing special. Service was pretty bad. Drinks were not filled on time. We asked for a wine list after the first round of drinks were finished and they did not provide it and we had to ask 3 times for it. You would think they'd want to sell us alcohol. When we ordered desserts the table ordered three desserts. The others at the table said they would see how the first desserts were before deciding if they wanted dessert as well. They were all planning on having an after dinner drink too. The waiter told us that it wasn't allowed and all our desserts needed to be ordered at the same time and all our drinks needed to be ordered with desserts (even though they still hadn't given us a drink menu). Sort of rude. At this point our group hadn't even been at the location for an hour.Having the wait staff try to rush us out (when we were ordering multiple rounds of food and drinks) ruined the mood for us. Overall, okay good, but not worth the hassle. I probably won't be going back.

Hide is just so epic (From decor to presentation to culinary excellence). Been here twice in my last 2 trips to London (Once for Brekkie and another time for dinner) and def won't be my last. I'd rather let the pictures speak a 1000 words here ;)
Be the first to ReplyVery unique upscale restaurant.
Great wine list. Definitely a different approach to cuisine. I had pork loin medallions skewered on a sharpened stick paired with blood pudding and black cherries. When I took a little bit of each in one bite I felt like my mouth exploded with flavors. The pork was perfectly done and tender but the spiciness of the blood pudding combined with the sweet dark cherry flavor was unlike anything I have experienced. I would definitely return.

Above at HIDE excels at imaginative, dainty presentation -- sometimes to the point of impracticality, as was the case for our melon dessert, which was structurally inedible -- and unique ingredient combinations, though their perfected creme brรปlรฉe perhaps demonstrates the value of tried-and-true.Worth visiting for experimentation and some true food-as-art! A beautiful meal accompanied by impeccable service.Dined: August 27, 2021

Be the first to ReplyA bit of a challenge to find but a warm welcome once I got
A bit of a challenge to find but a warm welcome once I got through the door. The second floor view of Green Park is nice. Service was excellent to start but then tailed off near the end of my meal. It was like I fell into a time warp once I ordered the supplemental cheese couple. I ordered the seven course tasting menu with classic wine pairings but started off with a glass of the house champagne, which was excellent. The bread basket was amazing. It would be too easy to fill up on it and miss out on the courses. The appetizers were designed to be eaten as finger foods, with terrific gazpacho to be drank from the cup. This was a bit impractical for the lettuce. I found myself using the butter knife to get all of the roasted sunflower seeds and dressing but it was delicious. The pork and fowl charcuterie were okay. First course: melon with lemon verbena granita and something like feta. It was light, refreshing, and perfectly paired with wine from Ukraine that translates as "fox tail."Second: toro tuna wrapped in very thin cucumber slices with kohlrabi shavings and plum dressing. Very good but the tuna was a bit overwhelmed by the other ingredients. Sparkling saki was a nice pairing. Third Course: the nested egg signature dish. Definitely "wow!" Egg yolk veloutรฉ, roasted mushrooms, and a bit of parsley. Nicely paired with a rich Greek red. #4: another "wow!" dish. Grilled lobster in a beurre blanc sauce topped with thin slices of fennel. It was outstanding. It was wonderfully paired with an orange wine from Georgia. #5: I'm generally not a fan of duck but this was very good. A perfectly cooked breast au jus on top of duck sausage alongside an apricot stuffed with duck sausage. It was paired with a stellar Pinot Noir from the Czech Republic. The Bonus (for a supplement) Cheese Course: a couple blues, a Brie, and one with an ask coating. All good. Paired, at extra cost, with a vintage Madeira. However, this course was ridiculously slow. It's where my experience fell apart. They rolled over the cart, I made my picks, and then it was about 20 minutes before the cheese was delivered to my table. Most establishments slice the selection from off the cart and put it on the table immediately. I have no idea what they were doing in this case. Palate cleanser: olive oil ice cream. This was good. Lighter and more refreshing than one might expect from the ingredients. #6: Dragonfly. Some sort of various consistencies of elder flower, that I didn't quite understand on top of frozen dragon berries. Interestingly herbal. Paired with a nice, not too sweet, muscat. #7: One fresh strawberry with pollen and a square of nougat. The strawberry was minimalist but good. The nougat seemed out of place as an ending to the rest of the meal. And then, another 20 minutes to get the bill. Overall: The dessert was meh, and anti-climatic considering the previous part of the meal. Otherwise, the food was excellent and service was, too, for the first 2/3 of the meal. However, this place is extremely expensive. At these prices it is not unrealistic to expect great service throughout instead of fading towards the end.
Be the first to ReplyFood 4/5, service 2/5.
Let me explain. This place has energy, generally hip clientele it seems, but it tries too hard. This French inspired wine bar has a heavy door that is nondescript to reveal a dark space over 2 levels. The door seems to only welcome the initiated, perceptive enough to know how to push it open, and has enough power to budge it; almost should fail the fire marshal inspection as asafety issue. Then you are greeted by at least 3 groups of service staff: the black suits, the white puffy shirts and the tray holders - almost a bit science fiction dystopian. The black suits check on you to make sure they pour everything including the water. The puffy shirts buzz around frenetically walking way too fast, dizzying back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, quite disruptive. Then the most disturbing practice is the tray holders that stand around holding large trays containing all the plates of each dish being served, which is HEAVY!! Why they can't bring out the dishes carried from the kitchen with servers directly to the table is hard to understand. Are the puffy shirts forbidden from the kitchen because they have to run too fast and get nowhere? It just seems cruel and unnecessary and even our kids noticed why the tray holders are doing that job, a job that no restaurant we have visited seems to have imagined necessary. Despite how frenetic and fast the puffy shirts move, despite how the entire dinner service is prefixe menu so that the kitchen has to only make the same dishes for every table, the dinner dragged on for 3 hours. This is a very long time even for London. At the end, we left remembering the gimmicks and distracting service, less about the food. Hide!!!

I had a great dinner at the main restaurant a few months ago. ย I started with the crab tartlet, then had the lamb and finished off with the hay ice cream. ย The tartlet was really quite lovely but the hay ice cream with dry ice for effect was just wonderful. ย It's always a great experience and a place I would recommend

I walked in on a Saturday night without a reservation and was fortunate to get a table on the main floor. I learned that downstairs is the bar, the main floor is the more casual service, and upstairs is the tasting menu. The staircase is beautiful and really sold me on the ambiance of the restaurant which would otherwise fall flat. I tried two standout dishes - the beetroot starter and the cinnamon Madelines. An interesting dynamic to the restaurant was the service. The service felt frenetic with at least 6 different people having waited on me in different fashions. Overall, glad I visited to try it once but not compelling enough to come back again.

Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite restaurants in London! I went in
One of my favorite restaurants in London! I went in December 2019, and it was the best meal I had in London. I went at lunch-time to Hide Above for the lunch set menu and it was amazing. Multiple courses that were perfect in size and taste. This restaurant reminded me of a restaurant in SF, Birdsong, because of the clean wooded interior and the cooking techniques used. The lunch set had more courses than listed and I was quite surprised by the cooking techniques as well. The bone broth starter was amazing and the carrots inside were so tender, almost like meat! The bread course was also extremely well prepared and I thought it highlighted the strength of the baking skills in this restaurant. My main course was completely unexpected as the roasted duck was so tender and presentation was super fun to mess around with to find the actual duck. And last but not least, the soufflรฉ was out of this world and put the cherry on the top of the restaurants baking department! The restaurant itself is spectacular with views of Green Park, and bright sunlight coming through the glass-walled restaurant. Truly one of the best experiences, and food, I've had in a very long time (the food was comparable if not better than San Francisco restaurants). I will return for their dinner service next time I'm in London!!!
