Why is it that we didn't try Hide-Chan until after we moved
Why is it that we didn't try Hide-Chan until after we moved out of the neighborhood? What were we thinking??? I love the place! Great ambiance, with fun plastic masks filling the wall, and a cozy bar. The service was very attentive, with staff really interested in giving a great experience. One of my favorite features of the ramen here is they give choice of noodle for all bowls. You can choose straight or wavy, and what level of doneness for the ramen. We both had wavy, extra firm. Highly recommended! My wife had Tan Tan, with rich bonito broth, sesame, and plenty of ground pork. She asked for light spiciness, and the kitchen nailed it.I had the Special Ramen, and it was too much. In a good way. The broth was creamy, smooth and rich. The soup came with 3 pieces of pork (instead of 2), a whole egg (instead of 1/2) plenty of mushrooms and corn, and... and .... and... all topped with a spoonful of roe that added a great brininess to the mix. The only problem? It was TOO MUCH FOOD!!! Of course, considering all of life's struggles, this is a problem I am well prepared to deal with.I will be back, and see if I can finish the bowl next time.

2/5 Hide-Chan Ramen (33rd Bowl out of 100)Deluxe Ramen - $19.Broth: 1/5. Clean and light. Not concentrated and meaty flavored. However, it is fatty.Chashu: 3/5. Has a tough chew to it. Very charred and fatty piece. Noodles: 3/5. Chewy, but not bouncy. Pairs really well with the broth.Side Note(s):Egg: has a very concentrated and deep soy sauce marinade!Appetizers:Karaage: 1/5. $9. Dry and has a tough chew. Was hoping for meat juice to gush. Pork Bun: 3/5. $5. Crunchy and sweet. Had a slice of cucumber and lettuce giving it texture. The pork itself didn't shine too much. Total: $35.93

great atmosphere but i was a bit underwhelmed by the quality of the ramen. i ordered the tantanmen and it was the right amount of spice but a little lacking in flavor. good happy hour prices so this is a good spot to grab a pre-dinner drink and snack at
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a birthday party on an early Sunday evening.
The service was top notch and the staff were very patient. The food was freshly made and so good. Their deep fried items - chicken karaage and skewers were very tasty. There were a range of ramen noodles to choose from. I went to for the classic and did not regret it at all. Would love to try the hot/fire one next time. Also I left a book at the place and the staff was nice enough to keep it for me!
Be the first to ReplyIt's pretty established and old ramen place in town.
Service is good and easy to find a table even on Saturday night. Ramen is decent in flavorful enough broth, and the store offers 2 different kinds of noodles- wavy and regular. I think wavy one is chewier. We also ordered fried chicken and fried squid for appetizers. The only complaint I can nitpick is the size of appetizers is small compared to the price. Ambiance is cozy. It is definitely a good place when you are nearby midtown and craved for a bowl of ramen.

Stopped by because I was craving a different dinner and it was on my way home! Service was nice and friendly. The ramen was okay-- nothing special, but I did finish the whole bowl! There's a bar seating area with two TVs that play videos of Japan on repeat. As someone eating alone, I liked watching the videos!

It was right next to Totto Ramen. When you go inside, you'll head up a flight of stairs. I came here for dinner. Since I was dining alone, I was seated at the bar. After looking over the menu, I ordered their deluxe ramen with firm straight noodles and an order of edamame with sea salt. I liked that in addition to some pretty standard ingredients, the bowl of ramen came with cod roe. It was a good bowl of ramen. Service was also good. I wouldn't mind coming back here again.
Be the first to ReplyA cute little ramen restaurant.
I loved all the cute decor. I got the spicy deluxe, and my mom got the tantanmen. My broth was creamy and delicious with the perfect amount of spice. This was a perfect meal on a cold winter day.
Be the first to ReplyI've been going here for many years, albeit not since Covid.
I went for lunch here today -- about 2 - 3 years since last time. Honestly, I was underwhelmed. No, it wasn't bad, but it was just meh. The eggplant t appetiser was excellent, but the ramen just didn't excite me as in the past. Having said that, I ate the entire bowl...I was hungry.

It's on the second floor, above another ramen joint (only in NYC, amirite). Get those legs moving. Pork bun & spicy garlic ramen ftw.
Be the first to ReplyGood! Simple and fun .
..They also have a good selection of italian wines! One of few places where you don't spend a fortune to eat a meal

Pretty standard ramen that will fix your ramen cravings but wouldn't walk out of the restaurant feeling "damn that was a gooood ramen". I thought the broth wasn't as flavorful and the chashu was a little tough to bite. The ramen egg was also not as runny/ yolky as it should be. But the noodle was chewy and I liked their takoyaki appetizer which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I got the regular deluxe and my friends got spicy delux. Their spicy delux was not that spicy though! The pricing was average but the staffs were very friendly!

She said this was her hometown of Fukuoka which is known for their ramen. I ordered the Deluxe Raman and Gyoza. The Raman was huge and had just the right amount of flavor. Some Raman spot can too salty but Hide-Chan was just right. The Gyoza has the right amount of crispness and filling. I definitely recommend this spot.
Be the first to ReplyFood is solid here.
Quick service. The spicy garlic ramen was really tasty although it didn't seem that spicy. They ask if you want wavy or straight noodles and I went with the straight noodles. They had a nice chew. I think they used to ask how firm you want your noodles but they didn't ask. The char siu was soft and tender. We also ordered the karaage which was juicy and good with the mayo. They would have been better if they were crispy but I still enjoyed them.
Be the first to ReplyI want to give 3.
5 stars! Ramen is actually pretty ok. I had so many many fake bad ramens, but this is one actually better than any other fake ones. Feels pretty good overall. Spicy garlic ramen was of course not spicy at all, which is good aspect of thus ramen actually! It would taste little weird if it was too spicy. Black oil part is garlic, so do not expect real minced garlic here! I ordered wavy noodle for this and I think it was good choice. Chashu was ok, egg was ok, everything was ok. Nothing bad here. But About oolong-high? Hmm...couldn't taste the oolong at all, I was only tasting watered whiskey. I hope oolong gets darker and less alcohol for better taste. Some people might disagree with me, cuz I hate smell of alcohol in general.I definitely want to visit again for try different ramen, maybe more basic ones!
Be the first to ReplyThis place was alright.
We ordered the spicy cucumbers, fried gyzo, pork bun, miso ramen, and mille crepe with green tea ice cream. The cucumbers weren't spicy (which isn't a bad thing) but they also lacked flavor. The pork in the bun tasted like it was cooked a while ago and it was a little tough and cold. I didnt really like the miso ramen. I wish I got the original but the waitress said the miso was better. The dessert was a fail. The mille crepe was so small and sad and had no flavor. The green tea ice cream tasted bitter with no sugar. I could have done without it.In terms of drinks, they were pretty good but maybe a little too much sugary syrup. I got a cocktail with sake, brown sugar syrup and lemon and then the other drink was "peach beer", which I think was just beer with peach syrup. The service was a bit slow at times as the waitresses stayed up front and didn't check on the few tables enough. I may give this place a shot especially if offered discount or free food because of subscribing to their promo page.

Good to see open for lunch and pretty much the same post COVID. Gyu don made a nice addition to my Red Dragon ramen today.
Be the first to ReplySolid ramen and good vibes inside.
I appreciate that some of the ramencould be turned vegetarian and tat they didn't only have the basic veggie ramen that most places had. They give you the option of what type of noodles you like too.

My favorite authentic ramen in my neighborhood! Always fast, always perfect in flavor. Get the firm noodles and spicy broth. Another favorite is the fried chicken.

Hide-chan fills a dearth for midtown east, an accessible Asian dinner location. Sure, there's Totto Ramen right below it, but to be honest, in the 7 years I've known the two, I don't think I've ever set foot in Hide-chan's lower level competitor. It's not because Hide-chan's ramen is better, as I have nothing to say about the ramen I've never eaten, but rather because Hide-chan isn't a hole in the wall and has actual tables. As far as the food goes, it's passable, however nothing to right home about. Flavors have always lacked a bit for me. About the inside, it was great 7 years ago. It doesn't look like it's changed since, besides for the addition of a couple layers of dust and grime. It's got areas for improvement, but Hide-chan will get the job done if your group needs an affordable Asian meal in the area.

Great atmosphere! This place is tucked away on the 2nd story of the building. We started with the fried chicken, and then I had the Kara Ramen. Both were pretty good. The best part was that it wasn't very crowded, so we had a quiet place to grab lunch.
Be the first to ReplyI had their spicy tan tan men with the sesame base.
It tasted fine but there was nothing particularly memorable about my visit.
Be the first to ReplyTasty vegetable ramen.
Came here for a nice ramen lunch with family. The interior is cute, with simple wooden decor and just a few tables inside. The wall is covered in cute plastic character masks, and I saw that they had seating for solo diners back by the bar.I was really pleased that they had a vegetable ramen option, since sometimes I'm not in the mood for a meaty broth or pork/beef in my meal. The vegetable ramen has a ton of toppings: corn, cabbage, avocado, spinach, peppers, tomato... I was really surprised by how much I liked the avocado. It added a nice fattiness to the meal since there was no meat. I really didn't like the garlic chips (?) as a topping - each bite made it incredibly bitter.I liked that you could choose your noodle - wavy/straight and firmness. Would recommend this location!
Be the first to ReplyQuite mediocre ramen.
Noodles weren't springy and the flavor of the broth was flat. I got the red dragon which wasn't as spicy as I thought it'd be. Mask decoration on the wall is cute though.
