Disrespect
Had a fabulous dinner. While I was having my dinner I walked out to the bathroom. When I got back less than 3 minutes later the hosted had cleared my space, got rid of my drink and set someone else on my seat. I hadn't closed out my tab. Mind you I had not finished my dinner or drink. I wan't able to have dessert and all the manager was able to say was that they would not bill me for the drink they discarded. The person making the error didn't have the decency to even speak with me to explain the error. It was the manager wanting to give me credit for the drink they threw away. Really? Anyway couldn't even finish my dinner. Crazy.

The Hillstone/ Houston’s Brand is going down rapidly. Our last two experiences in Winter Park, FL and West Paces, Atlanta were bad and we were hoping Coral Gables would be better. The runner gave our appetizer to another table by mistake and then they brought out “cold ribs” for my wife. The manager came over and pretended she was sorry and comp the appetizer instead of the cold ribs. Both really should have been comped. We waited for an hour and a half for our food. This company is having problems from the top at their corporate office and it is evident. I wrote a letter to the President of their company and still have not heard anything. Stay away from the Hillstone Brand.

I would like to share my experience at Hillstone Restaurant. While the food is great, the behavior of the staff towards my party of 6 was unacceptable. Understandably, the restaurant was unable to accommodate our entire party of 6, but when we suggested splitting into two parties of 3 with different names and no specific request to be seated near each other, Hillstone refused and treated us very poorly. They have a policy of not accepting more than 5 people. This refusal made absolutely no sense to us as we would wait the time neccesary and the behaviour of the staff towards our party was unprofessional. I hope that Hillstone will make changes to their policies and ensure that all customers receive equal and fair treatment.

We got denied a table by the manager heather orville for the simple fact that she did not want to separate a party and give us 2 tables . Worse management ever and we come here twice per week . Managers like that should be fired. Not wanting to give loyal clients a table and denying them for the fact that they don’t want to give an additional table even do we were ok waiting as long as it will take.

This restaurant has gone down in service and management. Heather who is the new manager is rude and non accommodating. With so many restaurants in the gables and more on the way Poor management is sad to see.

Have been dining at Hillstone/Houston’s and their other restaurants in various locations for years. This is by far the worst location we have visited. There is a waiting list for the bar and we were told by the bartender there were two seats available for us. Unfortunately a woman was “holding” the seats which defeats the whole purpose of actually having a list. She refused to leave and so we had to wait an additional 30 minutes. If you’re going to have a policy, then enforce it.

We have never been as insulted as we were on 2/18 by the evening hostess Ms Valentina Garcia. Because we had two separate reservations at this restaurant, Ms Garcia accused us of double booking with the intention of making our group bigger. We tried to explain that our son and friends wanted to be on their own and my wife and I also in our own. We checked and nothing in their reservation rules excludes minors from being on their own. We were in Miami as tourist and he was celebrating his birthday with his group of three friends that also traveled to be with him. At 10:00pm she declined to hear anything we had to say and like a judge scolded and punished us for breaking the rules. She wouldn't accept any alternatives and with a "silly smirk" in her face in front of other patrons told us that we would not be eating there that night. Like in the movies!! We are fans of Hillstone/Houstons since its origins and this was a very big disappointment. Ms Garcia is clearly not mature nor qualified to be in that position and deal with people reasonably. She is not a good listener and simply chose the outcome that hurts their brand the most instead of finding an equitable solution without losing a client. There was nothing deliberate or sinister about what we did. Our intention was honest so that we could all enjoy a dinner and were not looking to change it in any other way. At 10:00pm she simply chose to let us go and find dinner elsewhere instead of just sitting us on separate tables as we intended! We still don't understand the rule she referred to and why it is so important. A client is client no matter where they sit. She assumed, insulted, embarrassed and dismissed us like nobody wants. We are still in shock!

I went with my family of 8 to have lunch and they told us they couldn’t sit a party this large. We told them we could be split into two separate parties of 4, and they refused to do that, even though we said we could sit at separate ends of the restaurant. Ps. The place was EMPTY. I then asked for a table for the next day, just for 4 people (because the other 4 wouldn’t be able to go), and they still refused, saying that since we had been initially presented as a party of 8, we would simply not be able to come back.

Hillstone is upscale, clean, modern and very popular. We were there for lunch. Excellent service from Fabian, our waiter, who was quick, efficient and friendly. Food came out quickly. We had sushi and it was tasty and fresh. Salad was excellent. I had the chicken sandwich. It was pretty tasty, well prepared. Unfortunately, my wife ordered the Hawaiian Rib eye. It was much thinner than usual and not a particularly good cut and not the quality steak we remember. We ordered it with a warm pink center. It came out incinerated. Totally charred and gray. Big disappointment. If they can’t properly cook a $41 dollar steak, they shouldn’t charge $41.00

This place is awful. The manager and staff are very rude and uncaring. We booked months in advance of our visit from the UK. We are a party of 5 but it’s not possible to book for more than 4 online. We arrived early to explain we would like to add and extra person to our table and we were happy to squash into the table for 4. The answer was “no way”. Company policy/ they don’t do that/ can’t help/won’t help/don’t care. They said there were other people without a booking who were waiting. Made no logical sense. We had a booking! They just refused to listen or help us. We had to leave, we walked across the road to Moretons Steakhouse where the gave us a table and apologised for the behaviour of the staff at Hillstone. We have been to Hillstone Bal Harbour many times. They have a totally different attitude and are always happy to oblige. They are just as busy if not busier but adding one extra human being is not an issue for them. We won’t ever go to Hillstone Coral Gables again.

Love this place. Whenever we fly through Miami we always make a point of coming here, and this year we had an extended stay so we came twice. The food and atmosphere are great, and the staff always fantastic. We always book to avoid disappointment as it’s so popular and never have problems, the front of house staff are always lovely. We had steaks, ribs, chicken burgers and the tres leches and chocolate deserts. All amazing and I repeat my view that they do the best coleslaw anywhere. Please bring a Hillstone to the UK!

Been to Hillstone twice now. The first time was amazing, second time not so much.. We had a reservation on 13th June which we arrived on time and were seated straight away. Our server Calvin was amazing and as per usual the food was fabulous. We were there for a few hours as we were told we were perfectly fine to stay and hang out at our booth. We were 3 girls having dinner and celebrating after getting fitted for my wedding dress ( not being loud or bothering anyone). It came to around 10pm and our server asked us if we would like another drink which we ordered. Upon his return he told us that we couldn’t be served anymore alcohol. When we questioned why, he said the bar had told him we couldn’t be served anymore but that we were free to stay. We had approx 5 drinks in as many hours, by no means drunk. We left confused and have since written an email to Hillstone and have not heard a peep back from them. I totally understand if we had been loud, out of control and annoying other customers but we definitely were not. There has been no reason given for not serving us and it put a big dampener on our night. All in all we are pretty upset and disappointed by the whole experience and the fact that not one person could be bothered to get back to us with an answer.

Have been coming to Hillstone for years and it was always a great experience, however today I came with a party of 5 and a baby and was REFUSED a table as they cannot seat more than 5 people at a table and they cannot seat older children at a table next to you because there needs to be an adult sitting at the table. The manager did not want to accommodate. I am shocked on the way we were mistreated at the restaurant today. I had 3 children and a baby with me ready to eat and they simply told us to leave as we could not sit down and eat. Never in my life I have been treated like this. This is beyond disrespect with the customer and lack of professionalism. What an unfortunate way to handle your business with recurring customers.

I recommend making reservations. No valet parking available. Excellent food. We were served by Emily C. An amazing young lady who was a pleasure and very attentive. I definitely will be back.

Horrible Service and Food. The young lady manager was rude from the outset. Place was empty but was told there was a 45 minute wait. Wish we had left but my daughters wanted to eat there. Big Mistake.
After waiting 45 minutes, we saw that half the tables were empty including many for our size party. When I told the inept manager, she responded by alerting me that I had only waited 43 minutes and that she had timed it herself. I suggested that arguing with a customer over 2 minutes was not smart customer service.
I politely told the inept manager that I would never return. Ribs were cold, spinach dip was watery, and burgers were overcooked.
Not surprising that Hillstone's food is on par with its horrible service.
Great restaurant but rushed service
Early evening reservations to once again visit a great restaurant. Quality is perfect, quantity is perfect, and pricing is perfect. Don’t understand why appetizer is served and while eating the main course follows. Felt very rushed. This for me is unacceptable. Sorry had to score you a 1 but this is the consequence of rushing your repeat customer. Did not even get time to take pictures of the main course.

Still pretty good lunch place if you are in Coral Gables. The spinach dip and the tres leche is the best; the rest okay. I would not go out of my way to eat there. But it’s okay.

It is incredible that one of the best restaurants in coral gables has such a bad hosting standard that I could not believe it until I saw it. The food is the best , servers in general are pretty good but hostess seating people , managers picking and choosing who to seat when ever they feel they have your table . They do not follow a first come first serve , they tell you they have reservations which is not true. Try to make one and they tell you they are not taking any more reservations but you are welcome to show up and wait standing. For an hour. While you approach the bar the bartenders as well pick who to serve stating they have a waiting list which is not true . They seat who ever they believe can live the better tip . It is really a shame how they operate their hosting stand and their bar. And they are discriminated my daughter. So if you plane to come with the family, they treat you bad.

I have been a Hillstone fan since 10 years. Today I go super excited to have my usual thai steak noodle salad only to find out they changed the steak for chicken. Out of 4 salad options they have 3 with chicken. Super bad strategy. No option even to pay extra and change for a steak. If it is a budget issue I think anyone going to Hillstone wont mind paying a little extra for their steak salad. Will definitely not be coming back as I can find a chicken salad anywhere else. Please bring it back.

Nothing like driving across the state to try to eat lunch but they’re still not seating 4+ at tables so we sat 5 across at the bar - but that’s not allowed either. We have been coming here for more than 7 years now. The mask mandate has been lifted (granted, we all wore masks while entering anyway out of respect for individual establishments). But when you can’t seat 5 across at the bar but can squeeze 2 stools on a corner on top of each other, you look like an absolute idiot. Losing out on a LOT of business. We won’t be back.

Nothing like driving 2 hours to have a lunch with friends and they won’t even seat 5 people! Not even at the bar. Don’t waste your time and come to this place. It’s a total waste of time.
