Hojokban New York Reviews from The Last Year

Excellent meal!!! from embiance to service to food, everything is on point. this place has been really popular and i have been wanting to try it for a while. the space is very open with open kitchen you can see where the magic happens. the staffs are super friendly, and all the plating are also very cute. We got their famous short rib galbi, it's really tender and cut to small pieces that's easy to eat. i think for $56 is really good deal for a large short rib like that. the flavor of beef tartare is amazing, definitely recommend it. truffle pancke was ok to skip, unless you do really like truffle flavor but i think it's a bit mediocre. the lamb bulgogi is very unique, usually is beef, the lab flavor is quite strong if you do not like gamey taste. udon dish we had is a bit spicy with good kick .
Pretty impressed with Hojokban.
The collection of dishes offered here are fun and delicious. The Hojokalbi, though pricey, is probably the highlight. The potato pancake and octopus tteokbokki were also winners. The pork jowl, perilla seed noodles, and ramen fried rice were fun dishes to enjoy, but not as good as the above. Service is great as well.

It was my last night in NYC, and even though we weren't very hungry, we wanted to try Hojokban. Since it was a Monday night, we decided to try and see if we could walk in. Luckily, they were able to seat us right away. Very friendly service. Initially, I was disappointed at the sparse banchan that came out. One small dish of Korean sweet potato and two small dishes of the same kimchi, BUT once we tasted it, we couldn't stop eating it. Right away, the server replenished the banchan. Again, we ate it right up because it was so good. The sweet potato combined with the kimchi fit so well. We ordered the signature kalbi, perilla noodles, and octopus tteokbokki. The kalbi was so tender. We usually order kalbi non-marinated at restaurants, but this was delicious. Although we were lucky enough to walk in, I think Hojokban would be worth the wait and I can't wait for my next trip to NYC to try their truffle potatoes.
This spot gave me an amazing exerience.
I was able to reserve a spot for 5pm when the resturant opens. You get greeted. It has a bar type of vibe as you walk in. There is a very cool lamp that they have on the table so you can take nice yummy food pics. I came here cause I saw it on ig. The hojak galbi is a must get even though it is 54$. The fried rice ramen and the salad was also really good. Everything was on the spicy side. The service is on point, they come fill up your water every few minutes. Overall awesome experience and would come back again for special events.

The galbi was probably the BEST thing I've ever put in my mouth. Wow. The meat just melts in your mouth and is seasoned so well. 10/10 genuinely. I also loved the octopus tteokbokki--the rice cakes were so soft and it came with fried seaweed crisps on top for a nice crunch. The fried chicken was also phenomenal. And they frequently refill the banchan (kimchi and sweet potatoes). The food also came out very quickly. We had a reservation so we were seated immediately. I would come back to try the perilla cold noodles next. The interior of the restaurant was also very cool. Seems like a great date spot. There's also a bar that seemed to have several solo diners. Overall I'd definitely come back, especially for the galbi.

With friends coming to visit from out of town, I wanted to take them to someplace new and special. Hojokban felt like the perfect ambiance, and I made sure to get reservations (which come out 14-days in advance at midnight). I came in with high expectations, so it pains me to give an honest 3-star review. Some of the positives: nice ambiance, creative and modern Korean dishes with great presentation. However, the value was not there for me. All dishes pictured here were what we ordered for 4-people, and none of us were full after :( We would have ordered more food, but as it was a Friday night, they were quite strict about getting us in and out within 90-mins. RAMYUN FRIED RICE: Feels more like an IG gimmick. There were some bits of ramen dispersed here and there, but I really didn't taste it too much. In the end, I it was just okay definitely how exciting it looks. HOJOK GALBI: Creative presentation, but portions were not as big as we had hoped for a $54 dish. I also thought the dish would be a little saucier, and garlicky than it actually was. If you're coming, I'd recommend visiting during a less popular time. The portions feel better for sharing with two people, as opposed to larger family-style parties.
Definitely a nice date spot.
A little pricey. But definitely a date night place with the low lighting. The galbi was tasty and my fiancΓ© and I liked how the galbi was already cut off the rib making it easily to eat without making a mess. A lot of attention to detail. The perilla noodles were light and balanced the flavorful galbi. The server working there that day was very attentive and kept refilling the sweet potato banchan without me asking which I appreciated
Good food, ok service -- meal felt rushed.
Favorite was definitely the ramyun fried rice and hojok galbi. Honey chicken wasn't anything special.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place - every dish we ordered was delicious. Came as a group of 5 and the bill came out to $40 a person which I thought was a steal for the flavors. Service was also nice - our waitress did forgot to put in our order for one dish that I definitely ordered, but it was not a big deal as we just added it back on and it came out quick.

Wow, was this a great experience! I went with a colleague for dinner and it was a very beautiful and peaceful experience. The overall vibe of the restaurant gives you luxury gastropub and we loved it. Service: incredibly attentive and solid. Constantly poured water into our cups when we were running low. We had our own pitcher though which did take up quite a bit of space. Food: This was amazing. (Not pictured) Plum Sour: This cocktail was definitely worth the price. It was sour and you really could taste the plum but not the liquor. I would call this dangerous because you can get drunk fast and easily. Truffle Potato Pancake: if you like truffle, please get this. It was the right amount of truffle and potato. The flavor with the extra dip of truffle aioli was so worth it. Hojok Galbi: We had gotten the regular spice so if you can't eat spice, consider removing the peppers on it. Flavor was so good. The spice on the meat not touching the pepper was just right. Perilla oil noodles: Please mix this well! The initial bites were not as flavorful as I wanted to but towards the end part, it was amazing. This was my first time with perilla in oil so I'm not sure how strong of a flavor was the intention but it was more seaweed to me than anything. Still, this was a great refresher! Overall, I think this experience was well worth my money. I would come back time and time again. Also a very beautiful date night spot.

I finally got a resy here and understand the hype bc everything was sooo good! My friend and i shared the truffle potato pancake, the spicy galbi, and the cold perilla noodle. We loved every single bite of it! The pancake was crispy without being too greasy and the sauce had good truffle flavor. The galbi had a good kick and came with cabbage and ddukbokki and the noodle (my fav) was the best palette cleanser. I also got the yongchon highball which I enjoyed - light and refreshing. Everything was plated beautifully and the servers made sure our water glasses were never empty. Tables are close together but it didn't feel super cramped. The restaurant set up makes for a good dinner date or just a yummy meal with friends. Will definitely be back to try their other popular items!
Food: 8.
5/10 Service: 8/10 Ambiance: 7.5/10 - HOJOK GALBI: I would re-order. The Galbi was great, really tender--a little sweet like BBQ sauce. I would've preferred more savory or more traditional flavor for the Galbi. - TRUFFLE POTATO PANCAKE: I would only re-order if everyone likes hashbrowns. Not a lot of truffle flavor. It looks fancy and tasted good, like McDonalds hashbrowns (I like McDonalds hashbrowns). I, personally, would order a different appetizer. - I liked the sweet potato banchan. I think Hojokban caters to more western tastes.
Food/Drinks: Everything at Hojokban was just jaw-dropping.
From presentation to taste, each dish wowed us again and again. The galbi was nice and tender and just melted in our mouths. The potato pancake had a nice crunch and was airy. The ramyun fried rice had a range of textures and had a kick to it, which all paired well together. Each dish had its shining moment, and we'd 100% come back. Service: The service was fast, and the waiter/host was kind and welcoming. We were in and out within an hour. Ambiance: The decor was very pretty, and the dim lighting was romantic, however, one might argue that it was a little too dark to see. Luckily, each table had a little lamp.

There was a decent number of menu items, but nothing really appealed to me? A lot of their entrees was straight protein. Fortunately, their presentation and taste spoke louder than words. Service was fantastic, providing an elegance to match the $$$ atmosphere. Interestingly enough, their starters were actually a lot better and just as big as their main dishes. Their Truffle Potato Pancake ($20) has to be my fave. It was like a crispy hash brown drizzled upon a bed of aromatic truffle sauce. The Octopus Tteokbokki ($16) was also delightful. The octopus has to be one of the best I had, having a not-too-chewy texture. I wish we stopped there, because not only was I getting full, but the Tiger Budae Jigae ($22) was so disappointing. Every ingredient used tasted average. I like how they seem to be adding more menu items every so often. This is definitely one of the better Korean spots newly added to K-Town.

Yum. Yum. Yum. Best staff as well!!! Great recommendations, service and good! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Gabli was so Smokey and sweet and delicious.
11/10 would go back for that dish! The army ramen was fine, nothing extremely special there.

Went on a random tuesday evening around 6:30pm and the place was packed! There was already an hour wait but we opted to sit at the bar, so highly recommend reservations if you don't want to wait. Despite sitting at the bar, the staff was really attentive. They were constantly refilling our bonchons, making sure we had enough water, and clearing our empty plates to make sure we had enough room. The food was absolutely delicious! The honey chicken was flavorful, juicy and had the perfect amount of sweetness to it. The truffle pancake was crispy and the sauce had a lot of truffle flavor. The kimchi fried rice was yummy but a bit on the spicy side for those with a low spice tolerance. The star dish of the night, the galbi, was super tender! All around great dishes. I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the desserts but would not go back for them. Overall, great experience and great food! Will be back to try the other items on the menu!

I was able to get a seat without a reservation, but the place filled up fast (Sunday evening). The food was an interesting twist on normal everyday korean dishes, and the taste was good. I'm not really sure about the cost benefit though. Service was really good. The place was clean, neat and the bathrooms were also well managed.
My husband went to their main branch restaurant in Seoul
My husband went to their main branch restaurant in Seoul with our friends and raved saying that we needed to try it here at home base. We made a Resy reservation a few days prior with no issues. The ambiance is nice and moody which is perfect for a date night or a girls date. You must order the galbi and the ramyun fried rice. A spoonful of the fried rice and a piece of kimchi from the banchan is chef's kiss! The galbi was flavorful and cooked perfectly. My husband also loved the highball alcohol drink. He said it was delicious and refreshing. We got the hot honey chicken appetizer and we both agreed it was just okay. Overall, highly recommend coming here!

This place is great! The octopus dish was so fresh and tasty. The perilla noodle dish was wonderful. I didn't love the fried dumplings and the rib beef dish was too sweet! But I would return to try more things!
Try other than their Galbi
We got Spicy Gopchang Udon and Hojok Galbi. Udon was really good. It had the perfect spice and flavor to it. Hojok Galbi was little disappointing. I don't think I really lked the sauce or the way it was cooked. I feel like it was just over-rated.m and hyped. It was just two of us so I couldn't order too much but I would definitely like to go back and try other dishes.

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
