The host and server were both very friendly.
We were seated quickly in a nice couch and chairs corner area. The decor is really fun. The menu is New Orleans based I want to come back for more food. The hush puppies and butter were yummy. I got the coffee cocktail, I wasn't expecting it to be hot. I would go back and bring more friends!

An un inviting entrance that leads down stairs into a sea themed decorated restaurant and bar with delicious food. The lobster and frites was generous and delicious. The waygu burger also had a nice twist. Definitely coming back on my next nyc escape. Shout out to our server the invited us to a gas of champagne!

The ambiance of this place is definitely interesting a in a good way. There are so many nick nacks, art, signage, etc that there's always something new that catches your eye. My friends and I only ordered drinks which were all pretty good. The bar is pretty small but we got there before it got packed so our drinks came out fast. It is a tight space so if you're standing get ready to be bumped a little and keep moving out of the way for servers. Even though it got really busy and crowded, the servers were super kind and always asked nicely to get by.

I honestly didn't want to review about this place because I liked it so much and don't want it to get blown up by those so called weirdos that like to call themselves "influencers". Regardless, this place is great and the owners/staff earned these 5 stars!

Did not spend a lot of time here, so this review is based on my experience of not actually eating dinner in the dining room area. To start off, the service of the staff was great. Hostess, manager - both great! The bar was a little slow, but it is a pretty small bar so I wasn't exactly surprised. Usually if you are seated at the bar though they check in when they see an empty drink or you are served quicker (reason to sit at the bar!). Boyfriend ordered a dirty martini and it came basically halfway full - definitely did not add the ingredients to meet the size of the glass (which I want large). Ambiance is really really cool. Just so many things to look around at and see some unique pieces they found to decorate. Very highly recommend for that reason alone. Just to note, it does get crowded. And we got there early and still couldn't get a place at the bar. We were just stopping in for a drink and app so didn't want to sit in the back. For the app, we did the caviar on tater tots (based on reviews here) and it did NOT disappoint at all! It was amazing and very much worth the money! In all, highly recommend Holywater!

I passed the entrance a million times before I realized what it was. You go down a flight of stairs and feel like you are in an old ship. It has a cool, nautical, cozy vibe without being gimmicky. Drinks were great, I didn't get food but it looked good

Sigh. Easily the worst-managed restaurant we have dined at in at least ten years. Between our appetizers being cleared and our entrees being served, our server--unbeknownst to us--went on break and never returned. This was at 8pm. At no point did mgmt or our new server, who was actually a busser, inform us of this change. More on this later. Let's talk food... The BBQ Shrimp app was quasi-inedible due to a heavy hand in the kitchen with the salt. Ditto the fully inedible gumbo. And I say this as a salt fiend, myself! The hush puppies were like warm at best. After ordering a 2nd round of drinks when the apps were cleared--a beer and glass of wine--the beer came out promptly while the wine order was dropped. Ten minutes later the new server/busser informed us they had run out of that wine (who runs out of Sauvignon Blanc at 8:15 on a Saturday night?!) so we ordered a Chardonnay. It was at this point that we told our server the gumbo was oversalted. Then the manager came by. He had clearly been made aware of our concerns re: oversalting. His patronizing response rendered in a patronizing tone with a smug smile: "yes, the flavors are bold." Meanwhile, we were still waiting on the wine, which he pledged to get to us ASAP. That never happened. Another ten minutes then passed. At this point, I got up from the table since no server or manager was in sight. Of course, the manager was holding court at the maitre'd stand and gabbing away rather than making rounds. I explained our growing dissatisfaction and returned to our table. Suddenly he appeared at our table with the wine and offered us dessert on the house. No coffee. We ordered King Cake and a check. FYI - we didn't ask that anything be comp'd or even suggest it. In thirty seconds--no, really--dessert arrived and at the same time he literally thrust the iPad in my face with the same smugness we'd seen from him earlier as he said with self-satisfaction: "Since you asked for a check." Of course, the check wasn't itemized. He noticed me observing this fact and to his credit said "I will bring you an itemized bill." When he returned, he dropped two Jello-O shots on the table and mumbled something unintelligible about them accompanying dessert. I looked at the check. Appropriately, he had knocked off a round of drinks, the gumbo and the cake from the bill. When I paid, he smiled with disingenuous autopilot plasticity and said "I hope you will come see us again." We said "No, we won't." We don't understand how poorly trained a manager must be to not say: "I am so sorry we failed to meet your expectations with both food and service. I hope that our having taken some items off the bill can in some small way offset your disappointment. We know that we didn't get it right tonight and we apologize." That is Hospitality 101. Instead, we got stuck with a guy who could barely mask his disdain for us and projected an attitude of "I can't be bothered." We are fans of this restaurant company's operators and were happily among the first guests at Pilot in Brooklyn. While the decor and vibe at Holywater are A+, the curtains don't match the drapes. What a shame. Sadly, this is an Instagram restaurant - great optics, poor execution. Ownership would do well by hiring or bringing back spotters. The only thing worse than a lousy meal with lousy service is lousy management. Be better. ps. The manager asked us if we knew what was in the King Cake. We said "yes, we know it's a baby." He corrected us, "No, it's an emblem." WTF?!?! pps. When I made the Resy, I made a request in the notes section to pls not seat us adjacent to restrooms, kitchen door, or servers station. Guess where they initially sat us? Directly next to rest rooms despite several empty tables. You can't make this stuff up. Epic fail, categorically.

After having a not so great experience, Josh Gavish of Crew NY reached out to me to better understand my experience. After our conversation Josh made it right and I look forward to returning. It's hard not to return after tasting the shrimp, hush puppies, oysters. Thank you Josh!

Hoping to change this rating soon because as of right now, I haven't been able to actually dine. One day I was making a reservation for Saturday and Resy glitched and made a reservation for the same night, a Wednesday. I promptly went to go cancel/modify to move it to Saturday and it said I'd be charged a fee. Even though I was cancelling 10 mins later. They actually charged me $75 then upon calling a few times, they said they couldn't do anything about it. I asked if I could apply it to when I come in, and they said they'd call me back. Nothing. I had to end up disputing this with my bank because they kept saying it's Resy charging not them, but it's up to the restaurant discretion to charge you, a lot of restaurants opt out...and when I called Resy they said no one got in touch with them. Fast forward, I go for a walk-in this past weekend, I don't expect to get a table but when I called there's no way to get in touch, it gets disconnected. So I go in person and they say they're at 75% capacity and if we come back in 15-30 minutes they can get us in for bar seating/drinks. I ask if I can put my name down, they say they don't do that. Of course we come back in 20 mins (we were across the street grabbing a drink) and they say they are capacity now for the evening. :) Ambiance looked cute but super tight. I think they're new and need to get their ish together.
Be the first to ReplyHolywater is a fantastic spot for drinks, dates, dinner etc.
and the way it's tucked behind the bluestone lane makes the spot so unassuming. Kinda reminded me of a speakeasy. I came for drinks with friends after work and we were floored by how artfully decorated this place was. The inside is super cozy and an all around great vibe. We ordered a number of cocktails, with my favorite being Holywater. The magnolia is also good if you like earl grey - it's kind of like a posh and better version of a Long Island iced tea. The cocktails did take a little while to come out, but overall service was good! Would love to return to try the food too.
Be the first to ReplyHolywater is quickly becoming my go to spot.
It's great for a date, meeting up with friends or dinner when your family is in town. The staff is amazing. So helpful and nice. Really a pleasure to be around. The food is SPOT ON every time. The BBQ shrimp is one of my favorite dishes in the city. The French fries are so good. Oysters are fresh and delicious. I've also had the steak which was cooked perfectly. The drinks are delicious and they even have a few mock-tail options.
Be the first to ReplyIt depends on what you're looking for.
It's got a nice relaxed fun atmosphere but a bit loud if you're looking for a place to have a casual conversation. Drinks are fairly priced but bit sweet for my taste. Service was very nice though which is why I'd bump it from a three to four star location.

Popped in here on a random week day to get a quick drink with a friend. Holy cow- holy water is the place to be!I absolutely love the interior, so well imagined and executed. From the moment you walk through the door, you are transported into a different world. We both got the purple Jesus cocktail and loved it. It even came with a fun gummy shark surprise. The service was also outstanding. The host was such a gem of a human and absolutely makes me want to come back. I didn't catch her name but she had on fun glasses! Can't wait to try more things here!5/5

I love this place! I was looking for a bar with Southern food and was so happy to find Holywater. It has the perfect amount of Nola flair! The bar is impeccably decorated, it's a little eccentric, but in the best way! The place is divided into a bar area, lounge, and dining area. I highly recommend the lounge. There are a few tables and some couches, which are perfect for enjoying a few drinks or a bottle of wine. The place is dimly lit, perfect or a date night. The service here is great as well. Our server checked in with us multiple times throughout our time here. They have coatcheck available as well. For my drink I ordered the Mezcal Hurricane which was just okay. I also had the Magnolia which I liked better, but was still a little bland. A must order here is the Hushpuppies! They come with honey butter and Tabasco which makes the perfect blend of spicy and sweet. Overall, this place is great if you're looking for a nice bar that's not too crowded with excellent vibes. The drinks are a hit or miss, but the small bites are tasty! Definitely stop by if you're in TriBeCa.
Be the first to ReplyMy group of 4 dropped in on a Friday.
There was standing room only at 8 PM in the bar (you can reserve tables in the dining room on Tock, but that's only if you're doing the full dinner menu). We just wanted to check out the bar, and were happy to wait. Ordered drinks and grabbed seats at a high top in the bar area about 20 minutes later. I tried:+ Holywater - eh+ Penicillin - too sweet + Mezcal hurricane - best drink I had+ Paddy's rum punch - greatThe bartenders were very friendly, but the drinks were hit or miss so I don't know that I'd necessarily come back (especially at these prices). Overall I'd say it was solid.
Be the first to ReplyWent to Holywater for pre-dinner drinks on Friday night.
It is an extremely cool looking bar, but the drinks and food did not match the decor.Quality: The atmosphere is great, everything else is just okay. We had a bunch of cocktails, chasing a great drink and never finding it. The Vesper Martini was fine, the Holywater was fun with the fire, but the flavor lacked the same excitement, the Purple Jesus tasted like purple soda, A Cocktail for Christmas was bland, and the Grinch-liato was beautiful, but not my style. The Caviar Tater Tots were a strange snack, I really wished they used real caviar as it would have made a significant difference.Quantity: Standard size cocktails and a small snack.Value: $18-$21 for Cocktails. $29 for Caviar Tater Tots.Ambiance: Holywater is a stylish nautical themed cocktail bar in Tribeca. Once you enter the white doors, you head to a basement that is extremely well-themed. It feels like an upscale beach dive, with each element curated to fit the aesthetic. Funky signs, retro photos, and fishing gear fill the walls. The space has a few sections, a bar, a lounge, and a dining room, each with its own unique style of tables and chairs. For Christmas they had up extra lights and decorations.Crowd: Reservations are recommended during prime hours.Service: Friendly service, drinks out quickly.Parking: Tough street parking in the area.

Delicious cocktails, I tried three different ones and they were all so good. We came on a weekday around 5pm and easily got seats at the bar. The vibe is so cool and the waitstaff is super friendly. Definitely will be back here!

We were greeted by such friendly staff and it was so welcoming. We were seated on time but the table a bit small for our group of 5. We ordered a round of delicious cocktails (highly recommend the Tequila 75 and Magnolia), but they came by and offered us a larger table to be more comfortable once a group finished (so thoughtful and much appreciated). It was perfect since we ordered nearly the entire menu. Our waitress was so charming and kind. She made excellent recommendations and was very attentive during our entire meal. The food was exceptionally delicious. The mezcal hurricane was a perfect compliment to our meal. We started with La Tour - an awesome seafood tower. I would go back and eat that every day. The bluefish dip was so smooth and delicious and the BBQ shrimp had the perfect amount of spice to give it an outstanding Cajun flare. We shared the burger, lobster frites and รฉtouffรฉe and they were all amazing. Loving the burger that much was a total surprise. The รฉtouffรฉe had that delicious spice we loved in the BBQ shrimp. We ended the evening with pralines and bread pudding and I would highly recommend leaving room for dessert. It's a bit noisy in the restaurant, which I think has to do with the low ceilings. But the decor is awesome and so special and there are neat unique touches all over the place. We only talked in between dishes since we were so busy devouring this delicious food, so the noise level wasn't an issue. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Amazing seafood fix. I can't wait to go back!

The ambiance, food and cocktails was awesome. I'll definitely be back soon.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice place to go to for a drink or a whole meal!
Very nice place to go to for a drink or a whole meal! Drinks are unique and the food is phenomenal!I stopped in one night with my friend for a drink but we ended up staying for dinner after trying the BBQ shrimp with our drinks. The shrimp isn't "typical" BBQ that I imagine most people (including myself) think of, I would describe it as a cajun BBQ and it was spiced perfectly. A bit of heat, but not too much!We ended up splitting the Lobster Frites, ย Crawfish Etouffee and Caviar Tater Tots. I don't usually eat grits (which come with the Etoufee) but they just went so well with the crawfish that I found myself finishing the dish quicker than I meant to!The lobster was great too, deshelled for easy eating, lightly spiced to add a bit if extra flavor and the potato shavings were crisped perfectly. As for the drinks, you can't go wrong with the Mezcal Hurricane or the restaurant's namesake, the Holywater which comes with a show: they light the top of it on fire with a blue flame that catches everyone's eye around you. If you're feeling daring, I would say you have to try the Purple Jesus. I saw this on the menu when I first sat down but thought it wouldn't be my taste. I could not have been more wrong! Honestly, it will probably be my go-to drink at Holywater for this summer, I liked it that much.Overall, can't recommend this place enough. The food is unique, and even things that you think you've seen at other places like the tater tots are unique and delicious. The drinks are flavorful and I'm excited to go down the list and try each of them over my next few visits. The last, but equally as important, aspect I'll mention is the decor and "vibe". The entire space has the walls covered in nautical themed pictures, lamps, paintings, etc. It has a lot of character and I loved looking around at each item and taking it in. There is a dining room if you want to sit at a larger table by my favorite area was when we first arrived and we sat in what I'd call the "lounge" on a sofa large enough for two or three people. That area is filled with comfortable chairs to sit and relax with your drink while you snack on the delicious food. I highly recommend asking if the couch is available when you go in or make your reservation.Definitely check this place out!
