Good Chinese Restaurant
Our meal was good, but not outstanding. So I gave it 4 out of 5. My wife's chicken and broccoli would have been better if it had more sauce or gravy.
Be the first to ReplyYummy dim sum for the win!
Visited for the first time with friends and got to partake of their dim sum menu. Even though they were pretty busy, the wait staff was willing to answer questions--even about what the other patrons were having. We had several items off of each of the price point sections and everything seemed very good.
Do know that it will take time to bring all your items, so depending how much food you order you may end up spending around 90 minutes to 2 hours start to finish...but isn't that the point of dim sum?
This is the real deal
This is the proper Hong Kong dim sum experience. The decor, the menu, the food quality, everything was top notch. I lived in Hong Kong for many years and this is certainly on par with the better dim sum places over there. Amazing and will definitely go back next time I go to SLC

If you want traditional dim sum, go here. They have a great selection to choose from. We got lucky and also got a fresh moon cake.

I try to visit this place at least once a month. It is a clean, cozy, nicely appointed space on the outskirts of the downtown area. Family-owned I think. Complete menu of Chinese entrees and dim sum (dim sum from 11-2). Beer and possibly wine. The wait staff is very pleasant efficient and accommodating the food is always fresh and delicious and interesting.

I think we found a go to restaurant for dim sum in Salt Lake City. They don’t pre-make items, they take your order and make everything for you so it comes out very hot. The food is as good as great San Francisco dim sum. The service is great and the waitresses are very helpful if it is your first time there. This restaurant is highly recommended.

When Asian people say this place is truly authentic Asian food, they know what they're talking about.
Be the first to ReplyChinatown in SLC
This is a throwback to the types of restaurants found in Chinatown or in cities before fast food and takeout joints. Needs a little paint here and there but enjoyed the old style furniture and decor. Has the standard Chinese menu seen most places these days but is one of the few, if not only in this area, serving Peking Duck! Also, probably the only place serving Dim sum at lunch everyday, with many excellent choices at very reasonable prices! A great way to sample some foods not seen anywhere else and try a variety of dishes that don't break the bank. Everything is served in the traditional manner, by a friendly staff, and at a good pace when ordering multiple dishes. The only thing holding it back from being excellent is the location and lack of parking which appears to be a significant problem and there are several signs in the window and inside warning about parking in back.

Went here on recommendations from TripAdvisor and Yelp. The place is clean and pleasant and the service was very quick, also too quick as the entree arrived before we had finished our soup. The egg drop soup was average and the hot & sour soup was ok but has a strange base for the thickening, almost a bit flourery. It could have used a bit more heat. The entrees were also a bit lacking in flavor. They weren’t bad just a bit bland to my liking. We weren’t able to get any dim sum (too late I guess)
Love Coming Here for Chinese
Been a fan of HKTH for over 10 years now.
Took me forever to find them because at the time, they were small and indescript. When they first opened, they were a mystery to me but I gave them a try and have not looked back.
Food is exactly how it should be: well cooked, seasoned, flavored and hot/fresh.
Not like the greasy, MSG, sloppy dripping so-called "Chinese food" you get at most other places. Example: Egg rolls that are grease soaked brown on the outside and mushy on the inside - EW)
HKTH has the best Singapore Noodles I've had. Love the Chinese broccoli with Oyster Sauce, the Garlic Roast Chicken, Sesame Beef and walnut shrimp are quite good without being heavy or with too much glaze and/or sauce to them.
I like that they offer different flavors of hot tea and not just soda pop and I like the setup there. The servers and staff have always been friendly but at the same time, are direct.
Example:
My friend once asked, "What is the difference between jasmine tea and chrysantheum tea?"
Server: "Well, one is jasmine and one is chrysantheum"
LOL - that was a comedic and direct answer to a direct question. I love that!
I always enjoy the atmosphere here - but if you're someone who needs catered to OR you are someone who likes "American Chinese" food - this isn't the place for you - go to Panda Express.
Otherwise - try it and see what it's about.
Also, HKTH is located in a rather urban part of town that sometimes may seem sketchy. The homeless shelter and a few bars are around this area, so you WILL see some "colorful" characters. If you always keep aware of your surroundings and mind your business, you should be ok.
However, if going during the evening or when it's dark outside, I would try to park in the front and not the back parking lot just to be sure.
Also - they are closed on Mondays.
