French dip au jus($28) was nice.
The au jus itself was very tasty. The fries were above average. The ambiance was very nice as well. The staff were mostly competent. It was clear that our main waitress tried very hard, but the person helping her that brought our food was not.

Ordered with the nice waiter that addressed our vegan concerns for one of our friends. The steak used to have an awesome kale salad that is no longer served but was cooked well medium rare. Chicken was succulent and pairs well with the wine. Check it out

I had booked a reservation a month out for 4 but couldn't respectfully accommodate another guest I had with me last minute. Horrible hospitality & service. Someone please fire him immediately.

I had never been to Houston's before but my in-laws love this place for some reason. I don't really get it though. It's so dim in there, and the food is way overpriced for what it is. Our party of four came in on a Sunday at around 1 pm for lunch. I thought it would be empty but surprisingly, the restaurant was pretty full. To start off, we had the spinach & artichoke dip (with salsa, sour cream and warm tortilla chips) and the house-smoked salmon (served with Chef's dressing & toast). The dip was fine, nothing to write home about. I thought it was a little odd it also came with salsa, but I wasn't too mad at it. I ended up putting the dip on the toast that came with the salmon (since I couldn't eat the salmon) and then it was pretty good. I think they should swap out the chips for the toast because that's a much better (and fancier) combo. I inquired about what was in the 'Chef's dressing' and the waitress just said "Oh, it's really good!" When I told her I wanted to double check what the ingredients were, I was met with an attitude-y, "What's the allergy?" So, it would be nice if they listed the ingredients of the dressing on the menu, or if they trained the staff to learn what's in the food. For my main, I went with the Ding's crispy chicken sandwich (buttermilk fried chicken, baby Swiss, spicy slaw). This came with French fries. I wouldn't necessarily order again, but it was a pretty decent sandwich. The chicken was good, but the slaw made it hard to eat, especially with such a soft bun. If you don't eat it quickly enough, the sandwich will fall apart, so this sandwich is definitely not meant to be taken home as leftovers. Hubby had the special, which was filet mignon with frites but I'm not sure if it was worth the $65 price tag. MIL had the ribs, which I thought was way too smoky. But the creamed corn she chose as one of her sides was pretty good. FIL had a burger, which looked pretty basic. I would say that the food is pretty much what you'd expect from a chain restaurant. But you should just double the price of what you'd expect from a chain restaurant too. $21 for a spinach and artichoke dip? Gimme a break.

Houstons never disappoints! It's one of my favorite local restaurants/franchise. Appetizers: they have best spinach dip + chips Entree: Ding's Chicken Sandwich is the best! I get it every time. Dessert: 5 Nut Brownie with a cappuccino **chefs kiss** Houstons is good for any occasion!

I am writing to share some feedback regarding my recent dining experiences at your Riverside Square Mall location, where my family and I have been loyal customers for the past 12 years. On our visit last week, I ordered a margarita, which I have enjoyed many times before. However, this time I found the drink to be overly tart. When I mentioned this to our waitress, it was simply to provide feedback, as I know your margaritas are usually excellent. I did not expect or request the drink to be removed from our bill, yet the response felt somewhat dismissive. A week later, my husband and I visited for a date night. I ordered the Hawaiian steak, medium well, as I have done for years. Unfortunately, the steak arrived well done with burnt edges. When I sent it back, the manager's response was passive-aggressive, suggesting I order something else. I reiterated my request for the steak to be cooked medium. When it was returned to me, it was still well done, seemingly to make a point. These recent experiences have been quite disappointing and are not reflective of the high standards and exceptional service we have come to expect from Houston's over the years. Regrettably, due to these incidents, we have decided not to return. I hope you take this feedback constructively and address these issues to ensure other long-time patrons do not encounter similar experiences.

My husband and I and our 7, 6 and 3 year old. Ridiculous and we will never return to that establishment. I will be calling the manager. It made no sense.

I use to go to this place maybe twice week not anymore after last night we waited 1,5 hour at the bar and the bartender keep telling us your next you next and keep seating other ppl so I decided yo leave , by the time we were waited we had ordered 1 round that was from beginning so with all this wait i forget we step out than 3 min later I remembered that we did not pay our round will in going i had phone call from someone to come back and pay we enter the restaurant and it was some ( though). Guy never knew that houston have a bouncer ) name Sam cannot be a manger or any responsible person because the way he talk to ppl with no respect cannot be , this guy have the guts to take on the side and treating me that if j do this one more time he us going to treat me differently waw waw me at this place after going to almost 9 years every week i was really shocked how this guy tald i still not sure what hes position is with hes white chef coat never seen someone talk to a costumer i. Hospitality like that in all my experience Sam Sam Sam

I've been enjoying Hillstone Group for 20+ years. The service, food and ambiance are always top notch. Lastly while it's not cheap it's an incredible value given all the things above.

Manager completely disregarded my concerns regarding the service we received. I was effectively told I was "wrong" for feeling like our service was inadequate and did not make me feel like he cared at all. I used to come here 2x per week for lunch. Never again.

0 stars for me I have always felt like they did not want large party's or kids !!! and that's very off putting but I have never seen a restaurant that will tell you that they can only seat four people at a table but that's fine so we went along with there stupidness and sat at 2 different tables after driving 2 hours to eat dinner with my parents but the straw that broke the camels back was when they came over from the back to inform me that my four year old son was not allowed to sit next to me because my 11 month old granddaughter that was sitting on my lap because they also don't have high chairs !! counted as a fourth person at our table and it was for the welfare of the other diners and the other diner being my parents on the opposite side of us. That was the only people in our eyesight or vision. I have no clue how they're still in business worst attitudes by staff in a restaurant by far I've ever seen then they proceeded to not bring us our food because I didn't like that. They told us that they were only allowed to be four people at the restaurant table, and my son had to get up and go to the other other table. do it was the worst experience in a restaurant by far unacceptable !!!!!

I can't recommend this place enough. The staff is always very kind and are always happy to help. The spinach artichoke dip is delicious and refills on chips are endless. The chicken sandwich is the perfect combination of sweet and savory. I had it with the French fries, which were perfectly thin and crispy. They also serve it with their own seasoning and with a delicious chipotle mayo. The prime rib sandwich is so delicious, pictures do not do it justice. We ate there for lunch and the place was packed and it does seem that you have to book very early in advance since reservations are always taken if you want to go last minute. I would say that it's worth it for a date night or even lunch date.

What place closes their kitchen at 9:30 pm on on Friday/Saturday night in Bergen County/ metro nyc area? I don't know what's happened since the pandemic, but people don't want to work and make money. Just insane that you walk into a place like this and ask to be added to their wait list at 7:30 pm and they deny you and turn you away. Meanwhile at 9:15 pm there are open tables waiting for customer to be seated. Unbelievable that this is the new normal. So unfortunate.

Every time I've tried to spend my money here it's like they are too good and don't want it. I've been told multiple times this place doesn't take reservations (by the person answering the phone), but yet when I came tonight, they turned me away for not having a reservation...odd. Then we tried to sit at the bar and they also turned us away saying there is a bar "waitlist". I have never been somewhere so subpar that has that much demand. It's unfortunate that the hostess, and most workers have the biggest attitude in the world bc this place could be OK, I guess but then again what do you expect from a Resturaunt that's located in a mall.

Went here for lunch with my wife. Oh my God I wish it was one of these in my hometown food was amazing. Drinks were spectacular and our server was awesome. I will definitely go to any Houston I see.

I mean that in a good way. The menu is small and consistently the same. The location in Hackensack is constantly packed and people keep coming. Most people have their go to's and know what they want before they even get there. Mine is the Spinach Dip or Fire Roasted Artichoke for a starter and the French Dip for Main. The dining room is low lighting and intimate. Seating doesn't allow for large groups and it's to keep the noise level down. They keep the tables moving and service is always swift.

What a terrible experience !! We traveled from Long Island to have dinner! We had a party of 7. The hostess ssid we cannot accommodate parties over 5!!!! I said ok can we have two separate tables with two separate waiters- Houston's reply oh we cannot separate a party! I said ok we are not a party of 7 anymore I have a party of 4 and my father has a party of 3- again Houston's reply we cannot separate a party! I said again we are no long a party of 7 we are now 2 different parties! They said they wouldn't accommodate us! My father asked for a table for 3 and the hostess said aren't you with that party ? He said I was but I order to get a table we have to separate! The hostess we cannot seat you! They have the audacity to turn us away!!!! They would rather loose business than give us two separate tables and waiters! Needless to say we will never again visit a Houston's or Hillstone restaurant again!! They're a disgusting company and should be ashamed of themselves!I didn't even want to put down a star!! they don't deserve it
