A Conveniently-placed Hotel.
We stayed here for 7 night on a Titan tour. The room was comfortable (third floor, facing the side street) and we had a sea-view. The beds were comfortable, although house-keeping was irregular (I don't think they employ enough staff). We were there in October, so the season was almost over. It was quiet at night. On several nights our 29-strong group were the only guests in the hotel. Most of the staff were friendly: the only exception being the Manager of the restaurant, who, on the first night, ordered everyone to sit together in one corner and became irate when a couple tried to sit at a table for two. This rule seemed petty when we were the only guests. The food was quite good at dinner, although there was little variety. Breakfast was only average. The simpler the food, the better it tasted, so we had salads a lot. We only ate here three nights, despite being full-board. There are some far better restaurants within walking distance. We found a lot of shops nearby. It was cool at night but the a/c seemed effective. The nearby is beach is very close, and wasn't too grubby. I saw tractors clearing it very early on a couple of mornings. All in all an adequate hotel.
Be the first to ReplyAppalled this is suposedly a 4 star hotel!
Have just retuned from a one week stay here. Our room was basic, to say the least. The staff were unwelcoming, and ushered us out of the restaurant as early as possible after dinner, even telling us 'it is time to go to bed'. The telephone system was inoperable for the whole week of our stay. The food offering appeared to be exactly the same every day. There was mould in our bathroom. No kettle in our bedroom, and there was no facility to have a hot drink duroing the day. Apparently, the official rating is 4 star, and this beggars belief. We strongly suggest this is a hotel to avoid.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed customer
Although customers have been complaining about the quality of food at breakfast and dinner since 2019 nothing has improved since. Wine that I've paid for, I am not allowed to leave the restaurant with to take to another part of the hotel. Have never come across this before in any 4star hotel. As other customers have stated rooms are basic and glasses don't get removed. There are plenty of hotels on this promenade and I would recommend trying a different one.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable Stay
Having read the reviews before I came I thought I'd made a mistake coming here. Yes there is truth in the majority of the reviews, "didn't clean the glasses for a week!" but it's no hardship doing them yourselves or don't you wash up at home? The rooms are sparse but apart from a tea maker they have everything, I took a mini kettle. Staff rarely smile but your questions get answered. The pool area and terrace are nice. The bar staff don't seem interested, I did notice some naughties when not using a card to pay, not positive but reasonably sure. The restaurant is OK but the food while extensive can be not to your taste. The rooms are cleaned daily but many hotel groups don't clean daily so that's a plus. The hotel is located in a great spot. Overall this is not a four star hotel. Thank you Team Monterrey I enjoyed my stay with you.
Be the first to ReplyNot great!
Like others have said before, the location of this hotel is superb. That a comfy bed and Wi-Fi, sadly, are the only things going for it. I travelled with a group and arrived about 9.30pm. Immediately on entering my room, an awful smell hit me. I tried to switch on the aircon but it wouldn't work. There was no hand soap in the bathroom and I had to climb into the bath to use the body wash, just to wash my hands. Reception said they do not provide soap and yes, climbing into the bath is the only solution, until the supermarket opens, when we have to buy our own. There was only one tiny bin in the bathroom and none in the bedroom. Being on regular tablets, I need water to take them. We were advised not to drink the tap water but we couldn't buy any because the supermarkets were closed at that time of night. I asked reception where i could get water and they said the restaurant but thats no good when its closed. It would be nice to have a bottle of water in the room upon arrival. There are no tissues either. Thankfully, we had a tour manager fluent in Spanish and he took my issues to reception. The answers were that the aircon is permanently switched off as October is deemed as their winter. I have asthma and the day temperature was around 27c. The room was terribly hot stuffy and smelly and I struggled to breathe. Even with the balcony door open all the time, it made no difference. The ceiling fan was too noisy on the highest speed setting, so it was impossible to use. This was also reported to reception. They did not fix it. None of the above problems were addressed. The restaurant is more like a school canteen. No table cloths, tepid food and coffee machines that when they run out of coffee, rather than refilling them, we are told to use a different machine until we find one that does actually contain coffee. Unhelpful staff. Nearing the end of the holiday, more and more people decided to eat out but we had paid for half board. None of the problems in my room were addressed. They do not provide anything in the bathroom other than body wash and shampoo. The smell was clearly coming from stagnant water in the sink or bath. It was vile and despite reporting it on several occasions, nothing was done about it. I could not recommend this hotel for anything other than its location.
Be the first to ReplyNot good but not terrible, main plus is location directly overlooking the beach.
The rooms are a good size with a balcony overlooking the pool and sea (at extra cost.) The room and bathroom are basic for swift cleaning and the (big plus for me) acceptance of a small dog. Rooms and all common area are what could be classed as institutional, certainly not more than a 2 star standard, the only exception was the outside areas of the bar which were comfortable and overlooked the beach. Breakfast was excellent with broad choices and reasonable price. The ladies undertaking the restaurant service were cheerful as were the cleaners. Downside on staff, and required a change of attitude and a better work ethic were the front of house staff. Not worth booking a parking spot out of season.
Be the first to ReplyPoor Hygiene Standards
The only thing going for this hotel is the location, as it's on the beach. It's definitely not a 4 star hotel. It lacked the basic necessities in the bathroom. There was no hand soap, tissues etc. and when I queried this I was told I could use the shower gel in the container in the bath. One would have to step into the bath to do this. There was also no bath mat This makes me wonder about the hygiene standards in the hotel. In these days of Covid I would expect better. The bedroom didn't have a bin and the two chairs where cheap white plastic garden chairs. I was on half board and the food was uninspiring and lukewarm. We had no Idea what some of the dishes were. It would take little effort to put labels beside each dish instead of everyone guessing what meat or fish they were eating. Unfortunately I would not recommend this hotel. I have noticed that the management reply to reviews is "We continually work to surpass ourselves" etc. etc. They should start working at it because this is not good enough.
Be the first to ReplyCalling this a 4 star hotel is a joke
I have stayed in better, far superior 2 star hotels compared to this. The hotel itself is situated in a fabulous position on Roses sea front, it's clean and tidy but that is about all that I can find positive to say The rooms overlooking the front are a good size but very noisy from the activities below, the staff are miserable with no friendly interactivity with the guests, the food was edible but with no flair whatsoever, bland and repetitive and how can a hotel be classified 4 star when there are no telephones in the room and they run out of tea and toilet rolls!
Be the first to ReplyLovely hotel on the beach
Having read past reviews I decided this hotel deserves an up to date review. I have just returned from a week in Hotel Monterrey. The rooms are bright, modern, spacious and spotlessly clean. The beds are comfortable. The shower is powerful. The towels are changed often. There is a fridge and a ceiling fan in the rooms too. Each room has a balcony and the majority have a view of the beautiful beach of Roses. The hotel is in a very quiet location and you can walk onto the beach without having to cross a road. There is a wide variety of food available at both breakfast and dinner to cater for all tastes. In summing up I would say this hotel ticks all the boxes for an enjoyable and comfortable stay by the sea.
