Great food, like super authentic.
Super casual and everyone was nice and friendly. FYI the place is crazy bright, like don't expect to have a sexy date inside, the lights are brighter than the sun. But it's all part of the vibe i guess. The food is so good you won't care.
Be the first to ReplyLoved this spot for a quick but delicious week night dinner.
We ordered the Beef Brisket rice noodles and the fish fillet rice noodles. The only cons were that the fish fillet came without being deboned so it was hard to completely eat a piece without any bones in it along with the beef brisket being a bit too fatty. However both had great flavor and would love to try new dishes here!
Be the first to ReplyReally enjoyed the food.
We ordered stir fried green beans, stir fried cabbage, the pork and tofu lu fen, and the cumin pork ribs. Everything was really yummy and I would definitely return again.
Be the first to ReplyWe went on Halloween night and didn't make a reservation.
However there was no wait, probably since it's a week day. The food was very yummy, it wasn't too spicy in my opinion and the Hunan flavor was perfect, very authentic. We also got a soup and it was gigantic, wasn't able to finish it. The service was also really good. I love the ambience and we had a lot of fun chatting. Will come back again!
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely my fav restaurant.
Every dish was just too good!! Service was good and staff was attentive. Definitely reserve before or else you have to wait an hour. Would definitely recommend my fam and friends.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, my friends and I call it "GOATnan Slurp".
Open kitchen is cool, the chefs have iconic chef hats. Everything on the menu is spicy though so if you are not into that beware

I had the eggplant and century egg dish and a side of rice noodles. It seems the menu on the website does not match the one in the restaurant exactly - unfortunately there were no vegetarian noodle dishes. The eggplant dish was tasty though - spicy, slightly numbing from Sichuan peppercorns, and flavorful. The food took a very long time to come out, they must have mixed up our order somehow.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is quite good, as is the service.
The decor is stylish, creating a more refined dining experience than you'll find in Chinatown. As you might expect, prices are higher than C'town, but reasonable.
Be the first to ReplyDifferent from 3 years ago.
There is no tofu or pork in the rice noodle. Very salty and spicy

We ordered classic Lu fen, eggplant century egg, flaming frog, and fried egg & port. 5 star for everything!
Be the first to ReplyMy second time was actually much better than my first
My second time was actually much better than my first experience. Besides the photos we also had the boneless duck feet and a braised winter melon dish. The chicken is definitely my personal favorite, we ordered medium spicy but think that we could probably go up a bit more. It's also great for taking the leftovers home and make noodles with it. The soft tofu rice noodles were flavorful, on the saltier side. The texture of the tofu made the noodles extra silky. The pickled string bean one could use more soy sauce, we just added the soup at the bottom of the chicken dish to the pickled string bean rice noodles and it tasted much better. Service and speed of service was much faster this time around, we last came here in 2021. And the kitchen had clear glasses so you could see into the actions. I think the only part is that the chairs aren't the most comfortable and it's only stools instead of chairs for the communal table towards the entrance of the place, those are really tough to sit in for a long time... but food is good!

We reserved a table for 10 and were told that there would be a minimum spend of $40 per person. Overall the food was more hits than misses. My favorite was the duck tongue. The sweetness of the dish was a nice surprise. The pigs' liver was well made but it was mostly "filler" veggies, and very little protein. The dry pot cabbage was delicious, but not distinguishable from what other places offer. We also ordered a very Cantonese shrimp dish, which was good but definitely not worth the price. The winter melon was bland, and their duck w/ chili and ginger might as well be renamed duck w/ endless sichuan peppercorn, because that's what it tasted like (not a complaint). I thought the hengyang chicken was just OK, but some of my friends liked it. We also ordered some noodles (sliced beef, tofu, and pickled string bean) to share, but we didn't like any of them. I did make things worse for myself by asking for my noodle to be made extra, extra, extra spicy. The heat was there, but it was the kind of spicy that you get from a 'One Chip Challenge', i.e. very very very spicy but not at all flavorful. The bill came out to be $50 per person including taxes and tips. With just one exception or two, the dishes were quite reasonably priced.

Was lucky to snag a seat without a reservation on a weeknight. At first I was confused by the prices since the entrees seemed very expensive for a place like this. But the dishes are meant to be shared, and are very large. Go with a group and try multiple dishes. We ended up taking home enough leftovers for another meal. Food is delicious and authentic. The rice noodles are topnotch, of course. But the braised pork belly with potato dish blew us away.
Be the first to ReplyVery good.
I'd never heard of the restaurant and thus had no expectations, but I went on a Friday evening with a friend. Approximately one hour wait (they initially quoted one and a half hour) at about 6:30. Comments below:-Despite the restaurant being quite small and seemingly crowded, it felt comfortable, the ambiance was soothing, and the overall volume wasn't distracting. -The service was discreet, kind, and considerate.-The food was all excellent. I don't remember the exact dishes, but one was shrimp and tofu, one was cabbage with chili, and one was fish with noodles. The flavors were simultaneously bold, delicate, and nuanced. I'm not sure how the chefs pulled that off, but it was delicious!-The beverage menu was fairly limited, but my friend and I stuck with (red) wine and it was good enough.I wish I lived closer - I would like to try the entire menu!

A mediocre experience, It was decent but nothing was that great. I went there with a reservation of two and when I came into the restaurant the host was off putting. He had asked me if I was sure I was in the right place. After showing my reservation he had sat us. Service was ok.We had chosen our foods, and I loved that the food came out fast and we didn't have to wait very long. The presentation of the food was appetizing and pretty. We chose the Ribs. Seasoning was good, but if I'm ordering ribs for 29 dollars I expect to get an entire rib. We had the Hunan style braised beef (dry) rice noodle in garlic soy sauce. It was good, flavorful, filling and full of things I like. I'm terms of the restaurant would i recommend it? No. I have been in establishments like these that have served similar meals and have provided better service and food. Not great, not horrible, it's a pretty restaurant that happens to be mediocre.

5 stars for food and service! Make sure to note during ordering for low or no spice if you can't handle spice or be prepared to drink lots of water like me :DMy friend and I strolled in close to prime time for dinner without reservation (a bit past 6 PM on Saturday) and got lucky to be seated at a table that was supposedly reserved for 7 PM. We said we could be done before then but for whatever reason, our food took a long time to come and was actually served at nearly 7 PM. Not that we had a problem with that since we weren't that hungry and that's how we took our time having our meal with no pressure to leave. After looking at the menu through the QR code, I chose the Braised Beef Lu Fen (Hunan style braised beef (dry) rice noodles in garlic soy sauce) while my friend got the Wild Pepper & Beef (Shredded beef stir-fried with Chinese celery and pickled pepper rice noodle - soup). Even though my friend took the chopped chilis presented at the top of my Beef Lu Fen, the sauce underneath was mixed well with some spicy chili sauce. There was no escape from the spice. The dish was heavily flavored and very tasty but I wish I could have enjoyed it more without needing to gulp water with every bite. Very filling serving size but I managed to finish almost everything.Sorry I can not comment on my friend's dish since it's 100% spicy for sure but she thoroughly enjoyed her meal!I now know why my friend would come here multiple times as I would recommend it as a great spot for Chinese food too. Just make sure to make a reservation beforehand (the place is popping throughout the night)There is only one restroom towards the back of the restaurant so be mindful of the potential wait. The interior was surprisingly bright which is a plus - I do not want to eat or converse in darkness.

Ordered the braised beef noodle soup - the rice noodles were really good but the soup and beef were just okay and lacking a bit of flavor. Big portions too, came out very full.
Be the first to ReplyDecent food, a lot of it was on the salty side for me.
Disappointed with their noodles, their soup lacked distinct flavor for anything to be on a michellin guide

A friend brought me here and I was actually obsessed with the noodles. Normally it's hard for me to finish a full portion of noodles anywhere else but here I ran out and immediately wanted more because the broth was so good. Definitely authentic and would recommend!

When I walked in, I felt like I had been transported to the future with the modern wood panel aesthetics and the ability to order food from my phone. Sadly, this changed when I realized that ordering through the phone didn't actually work. When the server came back around, we told him our orders and he went to the kitchen with them, but came back again to tell us that what we originally wanted wasn't available so we had to choose another option. My food came out quickly, but my friend's took so long that I was almost done eating before his arrived. The food was alright but I've had better for cheaper in NYC.

Michelin guide restaurant is definitely feels more upscale when you walk in, the design is very nice and modern, the service was great, we came right before they closed the kitchen for lunch at 2pm on a Saturday but the food actually came out really fast. If you can eat spicy I recommend just go for the spicy option, I picked the medium was not spicy enough for me for all the dishes. The duck tongue is a little lack of flavor taste like newly cooked didnt soak in the sauce long enough to take the flavor. The liver is fresh and good portion. Most of the dish are a bit pricy, we had 3 dish one app one noodle cost $160 that's very expensive for this cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyThis place might be my favorite spot for Chinese food in
This place might be my favorite spot for Chinese food in East Village and that's a high bar considering that places like Mala Project and Sichuan Mountain House are also in the area. For all the attention and hype Sichuan food gets, this restaurant showcases why Hunan cuisine deserves its own spotlight. For our party of 3, we ordered the pig trotters, string beans, cumin ribs, braised pork belly, this Hunan beef jerky dish (forgot the name of it) and a bowl of rice noodles with tofu.Everything was amazingly good and the portions came out to be bigger than expected for a place with such a nice ambience. Despite the three dollar rating on Yelp, this place is priced pretty reasonably given the portion sizes.Definitely a must-try if you're in the area!

Super authentic, food was good and very spicy like it supposed to be, will totally go back, cute place! ่ๆฟๅฅฝๅๆฅ่ช่กก้ณ which probably is why it tasted so authentically Hunan!
Be the first to ReplyHunan Slurp used to be my favourite place.
But unfortunately after today's event I have to strongly advise against this restaurant if you have food allergies. We have made calls to the restaurant prior to making a reservation to confirm they can accommodate peanut allergy, and double informed our server of the peanut allergy. One person in our party had a serious reaction. The waiter said there were not physical visible peanut pieces. This is a poor understanding of food allergies. Even a trace could cause scary consequences. It does not need to be a visible piece. I urge the restaurant to look into their current process in the kitchen and communication amongst staff to exercise their basic duty of care for their customers.
Be the first to ReplyI would consider myself a regular at this place before,
I would consider myself a regular at this place before, during, and after COVID. While my experiences were mostly positive (great food, service) what bothers me about coming here is really the menu consistency.Perhaps their ingredients are high quality and fresh (which everyone appreciates) thus not always available, but it's incredibly bothering for people who come here to have specific dishes. Most of the than not, 4-5 menu items are sold out or out of stock, on a lucky day, maybe just 1-3 items are unavailable. Additionally, the kitchen always seems backlogged and it's normal to see people finish the only dish they recieved before getting the rest of their order in piece meals. For the price they charge per dish and difficulty getting a seat (usually need a reservation) I would expect them to have a better consistency and lean into improving customer experience with their menu. It's not omakase.
