Great food, but New York prices.
Expensive, but food is excellent. Atmosphere is very good, service is courteous and prompt, but wine list has few reasonably priced options.
Be the first to ReplyRAINY DAY ALTERNATIVE TO THE ORIGINAL
We had originally reserved a table at the original Il Mulino. Unfortunately, it was a rainy day so we switched to Gramercy closer (walking distance) from our hotel. We can't compare it to the original since we've never been yet. That said, you can't go wrong dining here as an alternative if conditions warrant. The first thing that caught our eye as were seated was the all white interior with various sayings from unknown persons. It doesn't sound all that attractive, but somehow it all works. Our dining area was fairly quiet and while waiting for our service, we had something to observe other than the menu and each other. We started with 2 glasses of chardonnay and a large crabcake starter. We also had one of the best bread board presentations we've experienced. My wife ordered the Chicken Scarpariello with side of brussel sprouts. I ordered the Pappadelle Special w/ side of spinach w/ garlic and olio. We finished off with a wonderful Panna Cotta dessert. We have to say that the portions were quite substantial and all of it was delicious. There were the occasional in between order lulls. That probably prevented us from giving them a full excellent experience rating. That's not to take away from our server, Jess. She was very professional. Chalk it up to dealing still with the covid recovery in late March 2022. If you can't get in to the original Il Mulino, perhaps you should try this option. We would go back.

Three of us ( usually he it’s 4) were originally supposed to go To a steak house but our fourth couldn’t make it so we decided to stay “ local” !
Originally we were going to try a Russian restaurant but after seeing nothing appealing on the menu we decided to try il Molino ( after Gramercy Tavern “ didn’t have any available seating) ar first I was hesitant because there is a similar names restaurant in The Hard Rock Cafe where I’ve been unimpressed with from Florida) their food, however the others decided to enter the restaurant because they were hungry. The initial cont with the hostess was rather “ chilly” but they decided this is where we were eating! They sat us in the back of the restaurant ( we were aiming or an Outdoor table but were rudely told there was no availability. We sat down and ordered from our helpful waiter ( originally from Orlando) We started off with the fried calamari and requested a mild sauce. The our friend ordered ! a Caesar salad my wife ordered a veal chop ( she requested to have it cut in half) and I ordered the chicken parmigiana.
The calamari was served with the spicy sauce so I asked fir a mild one as well which our waiter promptly produced. , . We all agreed that the calamari was pretty good . In fact our friend commented that it was the best he had eaten in the city!
Our main dishes then arrived. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her veal chop and shared it with her friend. I on the other hand want thrilled with my chicken parmigiana so I ate less than a third of it and took the rest to go. Our friend ate very sparingly but didn’t complain so I can’t really say whether he enjoyed it. We then ordered desert. I had the cheese cake along with a earl grey tea . Our friend had the chocolate lava cake and my wife had another desert I attacked my cheesecake and our friend ate sparingly at the lava cake stating it was a bit too sweet. The waiter accompanying provided me with more earl Grey tea along with the honey I requested.
My wife was more intent on the conversation than her desert so I didn’t ask her how it was.
BEST VEAL CUTLET PARMIGIANA
This restaurant was a surprise by the children.
It was the best present. After being at the peak in hudson yard
we came to Il Mulino
It is a wonderful old school restaurant.
Our waiter was fabulous.
The appetizers of mozzarella ,scallops were delicious. the clams orregnata
were just ok. caesar salad was good.
For dinner chris had the linguini with clams he said great. Kathy had the mushroom ravioli which were outstanding. Andrew had chicken parmigiana WHICH WAS WONDERFUL
Brian and I had the Veal Cutlet part.
Best ive had.
It made a great anniversary night
Excellant!!
Could eat here everyday for the rest of my life ...... it's like eating in your grandmother's kitchen, but better!!!!
Horrible thanksgiving dinner
Came here for a set thanksgiving menu. At first the waiter was very friendly, but after we received the main course, there was a lack of customer service. The turkey seemed old and was very dry, with bones and cartilages. Immediately after finishing our desert/tiramisu (which was supposed to be a pumpkin cheesecake according to their menu), the bill was placed on the table without even asking if we wanted to order anything else.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and excellent service!
From appetizers to main courses to desserts, this cozy restaurant aims to please- and it does! We tried several dishes and they are all high quality! I’d highly recommend it. Try the calamari appetizer - it’s as good as I’ve had anywhere.
Be the first to ReplyGreat addition to Il Mulino family
Small and cosy. The atmosphere is a bit dark but the seating is comfortable. The staff is extremely pleasant and professional. The appetiser plate on arrival is a good selection of what the other Il Mulino serves in larger quantities. Way better as it leaves your appetite available for the generously proportioned food. The chicken parm was just as good as any other Il Mulino. The tagliorini cacio e Pepe was al dente but could be a bit less salty. The side of broccoli rabe was perfectly cooked and of gigantic proportion. Definitely with a visit.
Be the first to ReplyA great cozy restaurant
I’ve long been a fan of the flagship Il Mulino, this is different but the same. The food and service are top shelf? The menu is a smaller version and the place is small—maybe 60 seats. I will repeat, the food and service are great! The place has a nice warmth to it. A perfect place for a quiet dinner.
