Best tempura experience in Singapore
Awesome place to enjoy other type of Japanese food. The tempura very fresh. Fried in front of us, right at the bar. The chef is thoughtful to tell us with sauce pairing to go. The staffs were also helpful and attentive.

The batter is thin and crispy, so we can enjoy the real taste of good ingredients. Services was good. We go for the set meal, well balance of meat vs veggie. Will visit again soon.

Chloe's service is nothing short of excellent, attention to detail and I can always be assured my customers will be well tendered whenever I visit.

Had a nice counter seat. Ordered SGD 85 set of 10 Tempura? We had a bottle of 120 sake which was recommended. Service staff should explain better when they took out the tray and presented to us shortly. Instead she just put the plate in front of us and disappeared. Then the chef starts putting the cooked tempura on the tray. He put it so fast at one point we've 4 different tempura on the tray? We've to ask him to please slow down. The sake bottle we ordered was also not shown to us and poured into a small decanter in their kitchen. I honestly thought we have not consume a whole bottle of 720ml when she asked if we wanted a 2nd bottle.
Overall, is a nice concept and price per set is reasonable but quality of tempura is rather poor. The flour they use and probably also the frying method are not even close to the real Japanese small cafe in Tokyo. Sake bottle should be presented and put in an ice bucket in front of us since there're lots of space.
Tempura overload
My hubby and I went there for dinner one Sat nite a few weeks ago. We opted for the 2nd highest set. Even then we had some trepidation wondering if we could finish everything that was placed before us.
We made the right decision as we were struggling by the end of the meal. The cold noodle at the end was lovely and so was the Japanese winter melon. Tempuras were fried on the spot for you by a chef. The tempura batter was fluffy, light and not oily. We enjoyed the tempura. Esp like the little fried shrimp toast. There were 3 kinds of prawns. Some fish, mushroom, scallop, kakiage etc. There were at least 10 fried items each.
We had the counter seat and therefore could see the skilled chef in action. There wasn’t much frying sound/splatter - how could the sound from the wok be so well muffled? When I fry things, even the neighbours can hear the mayhem going on in the kitchen with a lot of yelping from the oil splatter too!
Service was very warm and friendly. Overall we had a lovely time there. The only down side is that there is only that much of fried food one can have. Hence, we decided that it will be a place to go to give ourselves a little treat once in a blue moon.
rubbish food
honestly might get a sore throat--tempura overdone--better to nezt door to cook house or candlenut..over priced bland food.

We didn't get to sit at the counter and the outside tables feel so haphazard. Feels like you are eating in a walk-way or lobby with no proper segmentation. The tempura is not bad but still I won't pay $200 for lunch for 2 pax in a place that looks like a make shift place.

We had the tsubaki set and the chef was Executive Chef Yamamura Katsuhiho. The food was excellent, the batter was light and crispy with no hint of oil. Service was perfect as well.
Chef Katsuhiho set us at ease and yet was highly discreet (as most good Japanese chefs are).
On the whole, it was a highly enjoyable experience and we wouldn’t hesitate to return again!
Fantastic tempura by the master himself
We were invited to lunch here today by some friends and we were so very lucky to catch the master tempura Chef Seki san himself here in Singapore......and personally doing the tempura for us today for lunch! He had only arrived yesterday morning in Singapore from Tokyo it seems. This is indeed an exclusive and relatively small and high-end tempura restaurant, and the steep prices are reflective of that. All five of us had the 8 tempura item set lunch at the counter seats complimented by a few additional seasonal tempura a la carte items done by the great master himself. From
where we were seated at the corner, we had a very good view of Seki san skilfully cooking the tempura to perfection. Every item was individually cooked one at a time and the batter was extremely light and elegant. We had prawns, fish, sweet potato, mushroom, etc in the set lunch menu and we supplemented it with yuba ( beancurd skin) tempura and sea urchin and caviar resting on a piece of tempura seaweed. All were cooked to absolute perfection. Some instructions were also given to us by Seki san himself on when to use the lemon and when to use the salt and when not to use either, depending on the type of tempura that was being served, and they were served daintily one item at a time. He speaks pretty good English and we struck up a good conversation with him at the end of the meal. All this outstanding tempura was complimented by a beautifully indulgent bottle of Salon 2006 Blanc de Blanc Champagne which was drinking at its peak already. We were being spoilt silly for sure! Quite an amazing and memorable lunch indeed. Worthy of a Michelin Star at least in my humble opinion.
