Different with a touch of taste
Not really a Chinese restaurant at all or Japanese for that matter but there were subtle hints eg pork dumplings . Casual but vibey. Food was a little cold when served and I’m not a tomato sauce (ketchup ) on fish fan - which for me ruined the snapper.

We called ahead on Valentine’s Day and the hostess said she had room for us for dinner. We came, were sat and told that they had a reservation coming in an hour so we needed to order promptly (no problem). We ordered drinks and 6 dishes ($130 worth of items) immediately, 2 of the dishes came in 25 minutes and were great. We then got a tap on the shoulder from the hostess saying that they had moved all of our remaining food order to go and that they needed the seats. The bartender was not aware as she asked if we wanted another round of drinks. We told her what the hostess had just said and she didn’t say anything, brought the bill and another box for our food that we had been served and that was it. We were being kicked out. Nothing else was said other than your food is now to go, here’s the bill and that they needed the seats. Pretty ridiculous since the hostess said we could have dinner there, we were more than quick in ordering, and we were kicked out with a bill for $150+ within 40 minutes of walking in the door. Service was terrible and no one there could’ve cared any less. Go here if you want the same experience and want to eat to go “crab” fried rice in your car in the parking lot after being kicked out due to being busy.
Be the first to ReplyInteresting? I think.
This was a unique dining experience for us. We ordered and shared at the table…small amounts but several dishes. The cocktails were interesting too. We were there for dim sum brunch and the menu was even more eclectic than the regular menu. The service was good, bathrooms were spotless and the concept was amazing. That said it was soooo loud, too loud in terms of decibels and conversation. The seats are perhaps the most uncomfortable that I’ve sat in. The server declared all items “not spicy” except for one. She was wrong. I’m not sure I’d eat there again but if you’re young and adventurous…go for it!

There is much to unpack regarding this restaurant so let's get started. Parking on Spruill Ave is a bit limited. If you can’t find anything, I suggest driving up a block and turning right on Montague Ave. There was plenty of parking in front of North Charleston High School I had eaten at Jack Rabbit Filly before, but that was years ago and on king St. That meal was so much better than the one we ate today. We arrived on time at 1:45 for our Sunday Brunch Dim Sum and we were seated right away, After spending a few minutes with the menu we made a selection and ordered 5 dishes. A few minutes later the waitress came out to let us know that they were out of the stuffed pepper dish we ordered, and quickly suggested another dish that had similar ingredients. She then informed us that the kitchen was going to be closing and that we should make sure we get in everything we wanted now. I don’t know about you, but when I am having dim sum for a meal, I want to order a few dishes and order more after that. Announcing to us that the kitchen was closing 10 minutes after our reservation is ridiculous at best. Either keep the kitchen open longer or stop taking reservations earlier. Being afraid the Dim Sum Dishes were going to be small, we ordered 2 additional dishes at that time, which turned out to be a mistake. My first dish, and probably my favorite was Brown sugar milk tea, Tapioca coconut sweetened condensed milk French Toast. In hindsight, for reasons explained later, I wish I would have saved this dish to help break up the flavors of the other 6 dishes we ate. The next three dishes: • Breakfast okonomiyaki, was a Cabbage pancake, bacon, fried egg, spicy mayo, ponzu, scallion, and tempura crunch. I think the pancake itself needed to be thinner so it could be crispier. I did enjoy a bit of the bacon flavor that came through, but the fried egg on top added nothing because it was overcooked and had no runny yellow to spread on the pancake. • Shrimp & scallop shumai with Preserved ginger, buttermilk wasabi aioli • Crispy Brussels Sprouts with curry buttermilk aioli All three of these dishes (especially the last two), had similar yet very sour/pungent flavors. It was to the point that except for the textures, I could not distinguish one dish’s flavor from the other. The Sichuan hot Karaage which is Japanese fried chicken, with filly sauce, chili oil, togarashi, b&b pickles, had perfectly cooked chicken and was a fairly large dish for Dim Sum,. The sad part is I was still overwhelmed by the flavors of the previous three dishes, I was unable to tell what the filly and chilly oil sauce tasted like This is where I really needed the sweetness of the French toast I had already finished, just to help cleanse my palate. The Vegetable egg rolls were 2 very large, hot, and crispy rolls with Cabbage, bean sprouts, carrot, onion, and a Dijonnaise sauce. This was one of the wife’s favorite dish. The last dish and another one that the wife liked was the Pork & cabbage dumplings with Soy, vinegar, chili oil, cilantro, and peanuts. Overall I thought the meal was average and a bit underwhelming.

Absolutely wonderful place. Service was very professional and helpful. Atmosphere is welcoming and fun. But, the food is the star!!! The family style of eating is fun and allows you to try a few things all at once. Seasonings were top notch and just right. The staff took great care accommodating my vegetarian daughter and made sure everything was just as we ordered it. I will be back!!!
Be the first to ReplyAsian Fusion, Funky and Fun
If you're looking for a little something different, look no further! The atmosphere is relaxed and funky, with a lively buzz that makes it the perfect spot for a casual night out. The service is exceptional, with a super friendly and helpful staff that makes you feel at home. The chef and kitchen staff are masters of their craft, and they know just how to mix Asian flavors to create dishes that are both unbelievably delicious and unique. This is a super popular spot in Park Circle, so reservations are highly recommended for all areas, including the bar, patio, and dining room.
Be the first to ReplyAsian – Low Country Fusion
An interesting area in Charleston that appears to be sprouting unique restaurants with exotic menus – a nice counterbalance to the East Bay/Broad Street fare. Menu items are Asian takes on low country ingredients and can be very spicy. Service was good. Prices are good.

Wonderful interesting new takes on asian inspired dishes. Tofu with crab and gnocchi was special. Japanese fried chicken was excellent. The salad with peaches and pears was delicious. Everything plate was practically licked clean. Teenagers and adults were equally impressed. My 18 yo said it was in the top 2 restaurants of his life.

Over$300 spent on worst food and drinks ever. 9 in our party. Two hours to serve the food. Adequate service.

You need a special palate in order to enjoy the food here. We were a group of ladies at lunch who had never been to this place but it had received great reviews. Each member of the group tried something different and shared with those who wanted to try other tastes. Some did not proceed after the first bite. The 25% who liked their meal said they would not come back. For us there were too many food items we did not know so not sure if we would be allergic. BUT FOR THE ADVENTUOUS GO FOR IT! The Market Sandwich was $!8.

I took my Chinese wife and stepdaughter to Jackrabbit Filly for the first time. I had read good things about this restaurant in the local newspaper and we were in NoChas and hungry. It was approaching dusk and was a beautiful day. We hoped to sit outside but alas tables outside were booked already. We ordered the sweet and sour cabbage with peanuts, the marinated tofu, the tile fish, and the fried chicken. Meals don't come with rice so we ordered a couple of bowls also. My stepdaughter was in the mood for noodles but the only noodle dish on the menu was curry so we passed on noodles. This is decidedly not your usual Chinese fare. Tastes and textures are styled for an American palate. I thought the cabbage was delicious. I was disappointed with the tile fish which lacked flavor. I've had tile fish before at another place and loved it. The place is popular and their take on Chinese food is interesting, but it didn't match with what we were looking for. No harm no foul.
Be the first to ReplyNot traditional, but a good experience
While visiting Charleston, Jackrabbit Filly’s Dim Sum brunch was highly recommended. We took an Uber out (about a 15 minute drive from our downtown Charleston hotel) and since we had reservations, we were seated quickly. The restaurant has a great vibe. I think this is a great date location. We were briefly given a rundown of the menu and left to make choices. Since most plates are small we ordered several dishes, most without meat because I am pescatarian. We did get the fried chicken for my fiancé. Our server was great except for one thing. When she explained the process, she mentioned that we ordered everything all at once and she would have the dishes brought out at different times so we wouldn’t be overwhelmed. Well, everything came out within about 5-7 minutes. Our small table couldn’t hold all of the dishes and it was hard to enjoy our food with everything being brought out at one time. I enjoyed most everything that we ordered: the fish tartare and potato dumplings were amazing. The breakfast okonomiyaki was delicious - full of flavor and quite hearty. My fiancé said the karaage (fried chicken) was hard and dry (his exact words). He was also disappointed that it wasn’t the true Dim Sum brunch we were expecting. He is from San Francisco so he is very familiar with a true, traditional Dim Sum. It was really more Asian tapas-style with small plates. The only bun I remember on the menu was a Pork Bun. I definitely enjoyed it a bit more than my fiancé, however, being a visitor, it wasn’t great enough for me to take the trek out there again. If I lived here, I might go again.

Amazing food and drinks. Service was on point, and interior had a fun atmosphere. I had the fish curry and had to add a small side of rice to make sure I could soak up every last ounce of magic in that dish. So amazing. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Charleston.
Be the first to ReplyStopped for lunch on a sunny
Stopped for lunch on a sunny day outside. Heaters made sure we’d be comfortable. Welcoming staff that helped us pick some interesting drinks. I had cheese and lobster grilled sandwich with collard greens. French fries were a new take on what they might be and delicious. Rice bowls had good flavor one being like a huge deconstructed suchi roll and the other topped with good tasting Japanese chicken. Will return for a taste of dinner for items unavailable at lunch.
