I want to share my horrible experience with trying to make a reservation for my birthday. I have been going to Javier's for years. In fact, I had a birthday dinner there a few years back spending a significant amount of money and leaving a hefty tip. This year, I decided to make a reservation for 12 friends for Saturday evening. I called to make the reservation and was told that for a party over 8, that there would be a $1,200 minimum. Keep in mind, I told them that I had a party of 12 and needed a reservation for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening. The manager said that he was going to email a contract for the reservation and that I would have to respond with my Identification and Credit Card. I stated that I live in the area and would prefer not to email my information. I said that I would be there in the next 15 minutes. When I arrived, the manager (Luis Perez) changed the amount from $1200 and said that it would be a $1500 required minimum and that I must have misunderstood the previous manager. I assured him that this was not the case and that I had actually talked to the manager and hostess more than once that day with all of the specifics for the reservation. His response to me was that it would be $1500 and that I didn't have to eat there. I was absolutely shocked and told him that I wanted him to honor the amount that I was quoted and that I did not misunderstand anything the original manager (Ernesto Montes) quoted me. I told him that he actually changed the price within 15 minutes of my arrival. I might also add that I am African American and do feel that this impacted the pricing. I do plan on following up and filing a complaint. Unfortunately, my patronage of Javier's has ended and I will discourage anyone that I know to support another establishment. I will also make a recommendation, to those interested in a restaurant that respects customers and would make a person trying to celebrate their birthday, feel welcomed.
