Javier's San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
Welp, this was just super disappointing.
After seeing Javier's while in Vegas, thought I would give the La Jolla restaurant a try. Wow, just shockingly horrible. Had a reservation for 8:30pm, walked in at 8:37 (the signage and directions for the facility are horrible if you park in the actual UTC mall so we spent those 7 minutes walking aimlessly). Also they say they give you a grace period of 15 mins, which we were well within this. Was told by a hostess "we'll let you know when it's ready." What? What's the point of a reservation? After 15 minutes, went up and asked about our table, they said they were "running behind". Meanwhile, not one person offers us a drink nor says sorry. No managers in sight. Did I mention this was only for a table of 2? Did I also mention that other couples and larger tables came in AFTER us with LATER reservations and were seated first? Not sure if we were bumped to the bottom of the "reservation" list because I didn't show up in a G-wagon with a Louis on my arm, but I'll digress. After another 15 minutes, a couple of bar seats open up and we slide in and decide to just eat there. At 9:15 I finally get a call saying "your table is ready". I say we won't be needing it, no apology from the staff, nothing. The bar tender was great with service. But man, waiting 45 minutes past a reservation, what's the point? Order a margarita, and for 20 dollars you think it would be good (and for being at a "fine dining" Mexican restaurant). I've had better margs at Chili's. Food comes out quickly, and it's the most bland, overpriced excuse of Mexican food I've ever had. 42$ for two enchiladas. I would have rather bought out Taco Bell's menu for that price. I've had better beans from a can at Wal-mart. The kicker? No manager ever comes over to ask about us or our experience. No chance to ever discuss the poor service and poor attitudes of the hostesses. 10/10 would never attend again. It's a place for the high class of La Jolla to show off their designer fashion and nice cars, not for an actual decent meal. Hop the border to TJ and enjoy GOOD food for 1/10th the price. The decorations are great for your insta story, but that's about it. I made a Yelp specifically just to review this terrible place...
Lacking flavor disappointing trip
Easter lunch out of town super excited to finally get good Mexican food Vegetarian, steak, seafood & a couple of margarita’s. Friendly staff exceptional atmosphere wow! I wish they start tasting the food before serving 😪 whoever is managing this place should start reading the reviews Pork chop tomahawk suggested by waitress instead of steak, tiny,a few veggies nothing esp! Vegetarian ok chip&salsa good Disappointed not worth$$$ too bad does not reflect the fancy/grand vibes
The food is delicious and the ambiance is absolutely
The food is delicious and the ambiance is absolutely gorgeous. The service is kind and friendly. The only reason one star is knocked off is due to the outrageous prices. One of the times I've been hear, I got a $50 shrimp dish that had only 5 small pieces of shrimp. The food is good and flavorful, but the price is a little steep for the amount of food given. Other than that, this place is spectacular - every decoration and inch of this restaurant seems to be created with heavy detail. Truly one of the most beautiful restaurants I have been to. Great place to take some nice photos and get some drinks with friends as well.
Excellent food and devise was outstanding.
The atmosphere is live a vibrant. Good tequila night...
Delicious Southwestern Mexican food.
Meat Entrees were generously portioned and flavors were right on the money. We've ordered the Carnitas, Steak fajita, and Javier special salad with steak. Could have used more lettuce in the salad, though... salad green was bit small! Jalapeños Margarita was spicy and delicious. Chips and salsa were refilled as requested and very good. Overall service was friendly and prompt. Beautifully decorated restaurant with many plants, comfortable table and chairs. Love the open-air booth tables! Always enjoy the lunch and dinner here. Will come back again before or after shopping in UTC.
Came to Javier's La Jolla with friends.
It was pretty packed for a Friday evening. Our server was super attentive and prompt. I ordered the Sea bass which was a recommendation from our server, it was super yummy. Shrimp ceviche was also a hit along with the flan for dessert. Worth it! We tried multiple cocktails, I will admit the espresso martini was very delicious ! The only annoying thing is your whole party needs to arrive or they will not seat you. We were waiting for just 1 person and they wouldn't seat us until that 1 person should up . Overall it's definitely worth a visit!
I love Javier's!! Have a reservation if you don't want to
I love Javier's!! Have a reservation if you don't want to wait or sit at the bar, but ultimately their food is really good and their drinks are bomb too. I love their shrimp fajitas (this is off an off menu item) but it is so good! I believe it is $46, but super worth the price. I also love their Pina margarita with tajin. Bring a jacket with you as they have an indoor/outdoor vibe and it can get chilly at night, but they play good music and it's always a good time!
So much better than the Century city and Irvine location!
So much better than the Century city and Irvine location! The food was fresh! The drinks were strong. The service was great! Only downside is that they would not allow us to take our stroller in. We were a little uncomfortable leaving it in the front. Also four stars because they do not have many vegetarian options. Definitely coming back here though!
We visit Javier's a lot at UTC.
The food is really tasty and well plated. The salsa they serve with chips when you sit is also amazing. I love the martini de pera (Pear Martini). I didnt post a photo of it but it's really refreshing. The jalapeño margarita is good too. Really cool vibe with great music and everyone is always having a good time. The service is really good, they do a good job of making sure everything is great for their guests. Since it's a more expensive restaurant I'd expect that.
Food was 4/10 probably Filiberto's had better enchiladas
Food was 4/10 probably Filiberto's had better enchiladas Ambiance was 10/10 Place is over hyped only go for the gram.
I recommend getting the spicy margarita, it's so much
I recommend getting the spicy margarita, it's so much better than the normal one. The food here is delectable. Literally anything you order will beat your standards. I ordered the empanadas and they were so good. The portion sizes are a good size. The restaurant is so beautiful inside. The bathrooms are fancy. There's always parking. We went on Friday so it was pretty popping, it kinda had a club vibe. Service was fast. Ambiance was fun. Food & drinks a solid 10/10. This is a well deserved 5 star restaurant and I'm a stickler for giving 5/5 stars typically.
Service wasn't good.
My friend and I got there and our server goes on his 30 minute break with no one to really cover so there was a long wait times, no refills and what should have been max an hour was much longer.
My favorite spot to go for authentic Mexican food is
My favorite spot to go for authentic Mexican food is definitely Javier's in La Jolla or Newport Beach. Both locations have great service, with vibes that are poppin, & definitely classy! Love everything about Javier's, I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a high end Mexican spot.
Javier's is the trendiest Mexican food place that I've been
Javier's is the trendiest Mexican food place that I've been to in my entire life. I get Miami vibes from this place with its classy interior and people dressed up nicely for an evening out. They even have their own valet service specifically for this restaurant and not for the rest of the mall. I came for a work holiday party last year, and we had a corner area reserved for our group. We had staff members specifically working our group, us in and serving us nonstop sparkling rose wine throughout the night. I had their steak and lobster enchilada for my entree which was so good, but very pricey! Appetizers and dessert selections were very delicious. They were very accommodating with any dietary restrictions / allergies here. One of the downsides was that even though we were a private party, we had a corner of the restaurant for us which made it a little hard to hear each other across the dining table. Overall, it was a great place for a work gathering to celebrate the end of the year.
Ok ok I finally made it to Javier's.
Have heard many great things about this restaurant and it's been highly recommended by many people and at last I've made the trip up north a few miles to see what the deal is. Let's start with the entrance. Very grand and white yet the dim lighting made it feel very intimate. Had reservations at 6:30pm and the place was practically full on a Thursday. There is valet up front which is totally a plus but plenty of parking near the mall that is covered for 2 hours for no charge. The waiter was amazing. Very helpful and kind and made several recommendations to try. We shared an aguachile that was deliciously spicy yet enjoyable. Ordered a sangria that was ok. Nothing special but the food made up for the alcohol. The taste is genuinely authentic and makes me think of some of my cultures greatest dishes. Please enjoy the pictures I took. All dishes were amazing! I'd hands down recommend the tomahawk pork. The bathroom attendant was also very lovely and kind and overall I'd come back here over and over again. Thank you for the great experience and savory food.

First the good: incredible carne asada tacos with guacamole! I love their salsa! Great service! Now the not-so-good: First, no draft beers at all!!!!! Second, my wife ordered their $17 salad which was a small plate of lettuce, one skinny slice of red onion, one cherry tomato cut in half, and a teaspoon of tasteless salad dressing. What a rip!
The hostess was rude.
The manager was rude. My table was ok after I made a reservation a week ahead. It's extremely loud and difficult to talk. My food was fair. The waitress was good.
Surprisingly meh
The atmosphere is fabulous and the service was great. But our food and drinks were underwhelming, especially for the price. Much better Mexican food and Margaritas can be found in the area.
Fantastic as usual.
Really busy night. Lobster, crab and shrimp enchiladas were delicious. Chicken mole is a party in your mouth. The fried ice cream is out of this world!!
We have recreated the carne asada salad at home many times
We have recreated the carne asada salad at home many times since having it here! We did not realize the portions were so big, or we would have shared just the salad. The salad was that good . Margaritas were on point as well.
Wow, Javier's.
This is a spectacular place!!! We went on a Saturday night, the place was hoppin'. Loud and trendy music (with an amazing sound system!) and stunning interior design and structure are what immediately stand out. The bar area is nothing short of amazing, it truly is the centerpiece of the restaurant. The service was excellent! Our waters were refilled frequently, plates were cleared at appropriate times, waiters were attentive, helpful, and friendly. The food runners reorganize the food on the table well and all the food came out fresh and nicely paced. Now the food and drinks... wow! We tried both the Pepino and the Granada, I really liked the cucumber and lime of the Pepino. The drinks weren't too sweet which I enjoyed. The house salsa was yummy! The queso fundido was good, a bit too stringy for my taste but a fork separates it fine. Soft, fresh, and wrapped warm corn tortillas. The enchiladas were delightful, the tomatillo was yummy and so was the cheese. The meat was soooo tender and juicy, they did a really good job on cooking it to perfection. Bathrooms were tidy and fresh, they have an attendant like some nice places in Mexico. The only thing I would warn people about is the music was pretty loud, so this place is not very conducive for conversation.

Everything was absolutely amazing! Had the best waiter and the service was just so great! My favorite location so far! The food was delicious, however, it did take a little long to come out! Nonetheless, the music and everything was great!
5 people at 2 top, cold table outside.
I almost never complain. We had reservation for 6 but we ended up a group of 5 with 3 adults and 2 kids. They put us on a two top, outside on parking lot with smokers right behind is, it was 45 degrees. As they were seating us I quickly realized it was going to be a tiny table and almost no chance of 5 to eat a full meal on a 2 top. I went speak to hostess and she said they often sit 5 at that table. I found it hard to believe for dinner. Drinks only maybe. She further said if we wanted a normal sized table that we would have to wait. Waiting, no problem despite our reservation but I didn’t want to be argumentative so we went with her word that we could fit. It was freezing and a horrible experience. The dinner was $400. The heater turned off and didn’t work for whole dinner. We had to put the appetizer on a the bench seat to make room for the plates. Two of us had to climb over the bench to get out because it we too crammed. Words can’t explain how our reservation, money and well being were disregarded.
Not your typical Mexican restaurant
Javiers is a happening place. On a weekday evening, the restaurant was just buzzing. It is an expensive place to be sure, but for us, it was worth every penny. The salsa is probably the best I've had at any restaurant. I have yet to have better steak fajitas - the beef literally melts in your mouth. The beef tacos were par excellence. Oh, and how could I forget the margaritas - they were absolutely fantastic.
Loud
Great service. The Las Vegas type atmosphere is quite loud and it’s difficult to have a conversation without screaming. Tasty, but pricey.
Great quality Mexican food
Wow. The quality of food was above expectation. Fine dining with great atmosphere. A little loud for me but the food made up for it.
Javier’s always delivers!
I LOVE Javier’s in Vegas so when I saw they had one in La Jolla I had to go! Went with a team of 8 there for a conference. The service was great and of course the food delicious. And it had been so long since I had their habanero sauce, I wish they would sell it. Fun and open atmosphere with a similar decor as Vegas but some unique features of its own.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
