This is too expensive for little bit of food. You need to bring your prices. I rather just go to burger king and get a whopper and spend less than 10 dollars. Prices are ridiculous for food that looks like it belongs at an auction and not a restaurant. If you want to sell art, get into the art business. Food is more about taste and fulfillment. Your version of food is reductionist with as little of everything as possible.

We had a memorable evening at this “Category of One” kind of restaurant. I did not realize it was an experience that I will have a lingering effect even the next morning. The moment you walked in and being greeted by them was warm and sincere. The background music, lighting and ambience was very well done. We were led by the waitress to walk through the path slowly to enjoy the delicately designed Japanese garden and decor. You almost like you are walking through the time tunnel to Kyoto, Japan. We missed going to Japan for the past two years due to the travel restrictions and this experience brought back all my good memories of Kyoto. We were escorted to our private dining room. We haven’t even started with the food. When we were seated, the room was wonderfully decorated that I felt totally immersed myself in Japan. The meaning of Kaiseki was explained on front of our menu so that we were prepared how to enjoy and appreciate the whole experience. This is a full 8 course of dinner. From the ingredients to the plating and the presentations were the highest experience. Of course every dish was and aesthetically pleasing and photogenic enough to capture before consuming them. It was a piece of art in every sense and we almost did not want to destroy it. However, when I start putting every piece of food in the mouth, I felt the taste was just right. It was not over-powering and yet all the fresh ingredients natural taste were there. The appreciation of food should still be the main thing. Highly recommended to people who appreciates authentic and aesthetic gastronomy.

Hashimoto has done it again by offering Kaiseki for pick up. We ordered the Unagi Care Box and it was a delicious, perfectly prepared, satisfying meal. There are other menu choices too and I’m looking forward to trying as many as I can. Hopefully before long we can once again enjoy the delightful food and service at Hashimoto, but until then we can still enjoy some fantastic takeout kaiseki!

The food about this restaurant is beyond words! For anyone love Japanese food will know “Kaiseki” is the highest grade of Japanese food, equivalent Michelin 3 Star experience. The major difference between this restaurant and other Michelin Star experience is the waiter name Kei. He is Chefs son. Because he has a lot of knowledge about the food. Each time he introduce the course, really prepare our appetite to get ready for it. Because he is very knowledgeable, he told us, just overcome the hard water issue, took them few years to solve the problem. On the other hand, all the Michelin Star restaurant my husband and I have been to. They all have one problem which is “heavy accent” and lack of knowledge on the waiters part. We never can fully understand what are they saying. Usually the first course I will really pay full attention to their introduction, unfortunately each time I felt the introduction become a routine only.

We came here for a birthday celebration. It's one of those restaurants that makes you rewrite everything you thought you knew about Japanese cuisine. It's high end dining that cannot be found anywhere in Canada. I hope the Chef and his sons will keep building this restaurant and help us win a Michelin Star in Ontario. Most restaurants no matter how expensive is mechanical in everyway. This family's passion, love and pride in the Japanese culture shines when you dine with them. It's not just having dinner here. It's as if you are a loved family member or dear friend when you dine with them. Don't miss a chance to experience it for yourself.

Due to a limited number of reviews, TripAdvisor’s algorithm of ranking of Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto does not properly reflect this restaurant’s true rank among the best dining experiences in Toronto. Despite being around for 20 years, there were only 25 reviews prior to this one, of which 22 were Excellent and 3 were Very Good. None were worse than that. The lack of reviews is because there are only three tables, serving a total of usually 6-8 people with only one seating at lunch and at dinner. The experience is fully described in the Our Stories section of Hashimoto’s website with articles from Conde Neste Traveller, The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, and Toronto Life. After removing our shoes, we entered a Japanese-style room and for the next three hours only saw our host Kei. As we were celebrating a special event, a personalized card awaited us at the table, with beautiful calligraphy from the chef. Their attention to detail in the food presentation was like art. The food was also as great as it looked. The fish dishes were varied and all delicious, the grilled Wagyu beef melted in my mouth, and the Japanese muskmelon was deliciously sweet and juicy. All the ingredients are sourced from Japan as if one were eating in Kyoto. The time and effort in preparing each dish is seen in the exquisite presentation. I have never been to a restaurant where there was such privacy and tranquility. The service was impeccable as each dish was described and questions answered. After dinner, Kei took our picture which he emailed later that night, along with pictures of the dishes we had. We were also given a gift bag with a Japanese tea towel and candies. It was truly an unforgettable Kaiseki dining experience without going to Japan.

Hashimoto is a hidden gem in Toronto where we can experience traditional Kaiseki cuisine outside of Japan. The moment we arrived at the restaurant, we were memorized by the decor. They really pay attention to every detail to provide an unforgettable experience. The presentation of the food was amazing. The plates are decorated so prerry that we didn't want to touch them. If you have a special occasion to celebrate, I would recommend this restaurant in a heart beat. Hope you get an opportunity to enjoy!

My husband and I dined at Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto in December, 2018, and thoroughly enjoyed the unique experience of dining on exquisitely prepared, authentic Japanese dishes outside Japan. The private dining room and the attentive service further enhanced our enjoyment. We opted for the five-course dinner menu at lunch time in order not to miss out on anything. In hindsight, the three-course lunch menu may have sufficed as the five-course dinner menu consisted of three fish dishes, which, though all equally tasty, seemed a bit redundant.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing experience! We can't recommend Hashimoto high enough.
Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto is our best authentic Japanese kaiseki experience ever. Again, simply the best. As with anything "best", all the components and parts of our experience were top notch, from the cordial welcome, to the traditional Japanese unique architectural and interior features (such as Shoji, the sliding panel that is made of translucent paper in a wooden frame), to the private dining rooms, to the beautiful, elaborate, extremely light, delicate and highly delectable food featuring the best ingredients, rare and imported from Japan, everything merited highest praise. Even though Hashimoto is quite distant from the central Toronto (it is located in the Flemingdon Park, in the city's North York district), especially for tourists and visitors, the 20-plus minutes' drive from the Old Toronto (Uber is about 20 USD one-way) was more than worth it. No words can describe the pure deliciousness of the food. Some of the items, such as Tachiuo (silver belt fish) or Shizuoka musk melon are not widely served even in the best Japanese restaurants outside the country of the origin. Hashimoto has been promulgating the traditional Japanese cuisine (and not its all-you-can-eat-sushi American/international transformation of the former) for about 20 years now, long before kaiseki and omakase became next trend in the big cities all over the world. To be honest, the prices are kind of steep. Kaiseki lunch is priced at $200 per person (drinks, tax and gratuity not included), whereas kaiseki dinner sells for $300 per person (drinks, tax and gratuity not included). This is almost 40% more expensive than a high-class Michelin star Hirohisa in NYC, but on par with many other expensive Japanese restaurants. But, again, our 436 USD check for a party of 2, including tips but excluding alcohol was a right price tag for the unique experience, totally one of a kind. Reservations required, as well as a credit card for a deposit. Please allow 2 hours for your lunch experience. The restaurant's cancellation policy could be viewed on Hashimoto's website. 6 stars out of 5.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and beautiful meal
Hashimoto is located just off Winford Drive near Don Mills. It is a very small restaurant and guests are served in comfortable individual rooms. The dishes were all carefully prepared and delicious. Presentation is very impressive and most of the dishes looked too beautiful to eat! Service is excellent and each dish was explained in detail. Pace is leisurely and allows guests to admire and enjoy each course. There is a nice selection of sake and wine to go with your meal, as well as a choice of teas. An evening here is a memorable experience of fine Japanese cuisine. Reservations are a must and I suggest making arrangements early especially if celebrating a special occasion.
