'HOMEMADE' FOOD AS MAMMA MAKES IS A MARKETING VENEER FOR SERVING ROUGH FOOD AND POOR WINE - AND STILL £300 FOR 4 PEOPLE Following the famous Tucci TV review we booked with friends in Hollywood Road to try out the food cooked by Italian mothers over in London and enjoy homecooked food - or at least Italian Trattoria level food To book was a drama as the website wouldn't allow booking after 5.45pm but we persevered and phoned the manager Angelo for a table at 7pm - all good We arrived and there was no table but two were eventually joined together outside a pretty grim-looking kitchen and the cutlery put directly on sticky tables We ate the set menus which had (to be fair) a big antipasta - but it was very low quality food and suckling pig that was bone-dry and cold, ending with 'desserts' (no choice) of a dollop of cassata and a dull chocolate biscuit. Meal for 4 people was £300 My main gripe is that actually the Mammas only make the starters and the desserts and the mains are prepared in a standard kitchen - the Mammas stand by the door and perform the 'theatre' as you walk in - but in reality all of the food/wine was really poor The concept of homemade Italian food is is mainly a marketing gimmick - plenty of better Italian restaurants in London that focus on the food and less on the 'story'
