La Provence Ambler Reviews from The Last Year
Excellent all around.
Service, staff knowledge, attentiveness. Food quality and variety always great. And then dessert!!
The food was wonderful, the service was great.
We had been previously and we will go again. The place is charming although it can be a bit noisy when it is filled or if there is a loud group but it is still well worth a visit.
Very good, portions could be better
We were a party of six on a rainy Wednesday. We had various starters.. onion soup, escargot, croquettes and everyone was pleased with those. For entrees, several people got the corvina and corn and it was good and adequate portions. Others had the rabbit and a duck breast special (not the duck leg on the everyday menu) and it was good although skimpy with the sides... a smear of mashed potatoes. There was an issue with one diner's dinner and the restaurant handled it professionally. We had looked at the pricing ahead of time and had no problem with that, for the quality of the food, but portions could have been better. Various desserts were good and portions were reasonable. Service was friendly and professional. Also note the place is BYOB which their web site does not seem to mention.

I, my two daughters, and son-in-law had dinner at La Provence on Christmas Eve. To begin, I was not impressed with the food. I ordered beef wellington for my entry, and for an appetizer, had shrimp with risotto. The shrimp was undercooked, and I have eaten better tasting risotto dishes. The beef wellington was cooked as I requested, and was very good, but the presentation, and puff pastry need work. One of my daughters is a vegetarian, and she was given the option of a vegetable dish with plain pasta. Her entry arrived with no pasta. We still had an okay evening. Three of us had dessert, and they were decent, but so what, the majority of high end restaurants do offer quality desserts. The bill arrived, and the total minus taxes was $500.00, and on top of that was a$150.00 tip. our waiter was terrific. But, what irritated me more than anything else was the charge for my daughter's vegetarian plate. Some carrots, and green vegetables. That charge was $100.00. Now, I have the financial strength to absorb that cost, so my anger was directed at audacity of what probably cost a total of $2.00 in material, and to charge $100.00. It really ticked me off. Before writing this, I read some of the earlier reviews, and one was posted by a food critic (I think he is) from Elkins Park. When I read it, it took me back to the movie Ratatouille. I thought he might be Anton Ego. His comments were eloquently written, and I got a kick out of his, to paraphrase, " I intend to go back for more" I didn't feel any of that. And, will not return. I had dinner with a group of friends here and it was great
I had dinner with a group of friends here and it was great ok, we liked that it's a BYOB place, the appetizers were tasty (specially the salmon dish) but the dinner entrees weren't our favorite. The overall feedback from our table (table of 10) was just "ok", nothing mind blowing with flavors for any of our entrees. Would possibly try again for lunch and give it a second try!
Very disappointed.
Ordered a steak cooked to medium temperature. It arrived almost raw. Once we were able to attract our server's attention, he simply said he would have it cooked further. NO APOLOGY!! My three table companions had finished their meals by the time my steak was returned. Again, no apologies. The steak was grisly and tough, but at this point I was beyond complaining. There was no offer of any sort for the inconvenience or delay. Also, I am a non-drinker, so ordered iced tea at $5 a glass. I asked for refills as refills are complementary at every restaurant I have visited. La Provance charged $5 for each refill!!! Needless to say, I am done with this place.
We chose the restaurant for the birthday dinner.
The setting and ambience of the restaurant were very good. Foie gras is highly recommended!
Great menu and amazing service.
BYOB is a plus! You can check out the menu ahead of time and bring the exact bottle(s) of wine you want to pair your food with.
Terrible time
Sub par food seasoned with arrogance. Bias and hostile management. The dishes that contained meat were inedible akin to a door stop. Their excuse for the lousy meat was that I didn't know how to eat it and we were not "upscale enough clientele" to eat there. Everyone should have access to a beautiful dining experience without being denigrated. Shameful.

A Perfect Dinner for our Anniversary
Excellent food and service, I had the Endive Salad, French Onion Soup, Mussels and Creme Brule. The French Onion Soup made with Gruyere Cheese was the best I ever had, and I will usually have it if it is on a menu. The Maine Mussels were the second best, the best still goes to Fishy Fishy in Kinsale, Ireland. The Pomme Frites were excellant, I usually and Ketchup; asked for it but didn't really use. My wife had the French Onion Soup, Trout, and the Creme Brule. Paul was our waiter, he and his team did an excellent job. It is a BYOB, so bring your choice of beverage. Best dinner out in a long time, that includes Parc in Rittenhouse Square. A quiet intimate setting to be enjoyed! Great job.
To say this place is a gem in Ambler is an understatement.
Love having a great French restaurant in the area. I have taken my wife here for Birthday, Anniversary and friends out for dinner. If anyone asks for a nice/romantic restaurant to go to I always recommend La Provence. The menu is solid no matter the season. Food is a bit pricey but it's fine dining and the food is prepped/cooked properly with amazing taste. The flavors from the selected ingredients in each dish proves the chef and staff know what they're doing. Wait staff has always been stellar. Any request I have made whether it be for seating or food I have had no issues to date. Also BYOB so you can select the exact wine you want to pair with your dish. I have to get the foie gras almost everytime, fantastic!
So pleasantly surprised when we had dinner at this French
So pleasantly surprised when we had dinner at this French restaurant. White glove and formal so it's def a special occasion type of place but service was overall ver accommodating with frequent check ins. The appetizers and mains are large portioned and delicious. We started with a salad and soft shell crab special - amazing flavors and so well prepared. We tried a seafood entree and also a duck entree - again we'll seasoned and prepared and the chocolate dessert was to die for. Highly recommend!
Very disappointing end to an evening that started out great.
Appetizers were outstanding and promptly served. Our entrées orders then seemed to have been forgotten and hastily prepared. Most disheartening was the management reaction. They were argumentative and defensive. A simple apology would have sufficed. Very curious reaction and doubtful that we will return. Disappointing for a place that had been a favorite.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
