Best thai food
Favourite Thai restaurant in Boston Area. Local gem! Love how quick they are. Service is good. Food is amazing, plus the portions are large.

I look for sashimi that is more than just tuna, salmon etc... They had a number of fish on the menu that you don't always see. In addition to traditional Japanese food, they had a fantastic thai selection. This place is legit. I would definitely get a reso for anything larger than a two top. This was super busy on a Sunday at 630. If the place held 50 people I would be surprised. All in all, if I ever go back to Boston again, I will be going back to this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious, unobtrusive restaurant
This cafรฉ was a good halfway point for a friend and I to meet for lunch, and we were both super pleased with the experience. The entrance is unobtrusive, but don't let that deter you. This is a smaller space - not tiny, but definitely cozy. We got one of the last available tables and were presented with a good lunch menu that includes both sushi and standard Thai fare (Pad Thai, curries, etc.). I got the drunken noodles and a Thai iced tea, and both were delicious. Our waitress was super friendly and checked in on us often but without being intrusive. It took a bit for our meals to arrive, as this place was super busy. Prices were very reasonable (I think this restaurant caters to a lot of students).

Excellent service, rapid, courteous and really good food. The outdoor seating area is also really nice. I was referred by a friend for their pad thai and sushi. Thank you for a warm welcome, Iโll be coming back!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent sushi and sashimi
11:30am I was in Boston for a one hour minor medical procedure @ 9am under sedation. Because I had not eaten for 36 hours, I was hungry and I decided to find someplace to eat. and found the Laughing Monk Cafรฉ. This is an unpretentious small place but had good reviews. For lunch, I had a modest sashimi combo along with broiled eel over rice. The fish was excellent and I knew immediately that this restaurant made their own soy sauce, very unusual. This soy tasted like no other soy sauce I had ever tasted. (Previously I had even ordered small batch soy sauce from Japan but this was 100 times better). I asked the manager if they ever sold their sauce. He said no but he gave me a small bottle anyway. This place reminded me of Fukuda, the small place in Greenwich Village where I first learned to eat sushi. It was run by Mr. Fukuda and his wife and then later by Takako Yoneyama. One of the joys of eating in restaurants is discovering remarkable food in unexpected places. A superb simple lunch. 7pm. I rarely eat at the same place twice in one day. But I was departing Boston the next day and I was so impressed with the Laughing Monk Cafรฉ lunch that I made a reservation for a 7pm Omakase dinner the same night. Omakase is the chefโs choice, so the customer never knows what is being served until you ate at table. I was still groggy from my early morning sedation but I think I had about 10 or 11 small dishes. The friendly waitress spoke a two or three sentence detailed explanation of each dish. But because of restaurant noise, mask and a slight accent, I did not understand a single word that she said. But everything was truly remarkable and beautifully prepared. I even thought I took photos of each dish but in my hazy state, I did not. This was a leisurely 2 hour meal accompanied by a great cold Funaguchi Ginjo sake. Some might think the $120 omakase set price costly, but I know in NYC or LA, a meal of this quality could have cost $400 to $500. A splurge, to be sure, but well worth it. I might have expected to find a sushi chef of this talent in a very high end place. What a delightful meal. I heartily recommend the Laugh Monk Cafรฉ to anyone who really loves sushi and sashimi as I do.

Average to below average sushi roll. Service was nice. Beer was horrible, avoid it. Not sure why it has gotten such a high rating. Maybe rating inflation at work :)
Be the first to ReplyOmakase here. Get it!
Amazing. Delicious. The Omakase box was the best meal I have had during the pandemic (and Iโve had at least one other incredible tasting meal!). Do yourself a favor, and order the Omakase box for delivery (or pick up - you do you) right now. You will not be disappointed. If I could, I would get it every weekend. And, the Thai food is incredible as well.

This was definitely the top 10 dinners of my life. And may be the best omakase Iโve had (yes, maybe even better than O-yaโs). The flavors just burst in your mouth. The textures complement both the actual food and flavors. Pretty much a celebration for your taste buds and mouth feel. And donโt get me started on the presentation. Beautiful, colorful and artful.

Impressive! First time here, not disappointed. You have lots of options to choose from the menu(which is especially great during the Covid) My bf is allergic to seafood and he also had lots of options! The chicken nuggets is so yummy๐we ordered second one immediately after we finished the first. The plating is an art there, you can tell they put lots of thought in matching the food with the container and the decoration. But tbh I would say the quality of the plating is better than the taste. One dish I want to try is the oyster(it will serve in a little wood chest, they told me it needs to be ordered first as itโs coming from California. Itโs a bit pricy though but I think itโs worthy, we 3 ppl spent 210(including tips).

This restaurant has been recommended to me several times and I finally had a chance to try it - it did not disappoint. While the sushi (particularly the specialty pieces) were a bit pricey they were both beautiful and tasty. Having traveled to Thailand, I can also report that this is the most authentic Thai food I have had outside of Thailand. Just loved the Penang curry with duck - crispy skin and amazing flavors. And, to top it off, the staff are just lovely. Can't wait to go back.
