We were regulars at Market House before the sale.
1st time at LC was shortly before opening and it was clear they were still working things out. Long wait, nervous staff, food was ok, not what I remembered from the city. 2nd time was for a business dinner. Fly had gotten in the restaurant and several staff members were running around trying to catch it. It happens. Food was not remarkable. 3rd time was for a birthday dinner, with a reservation made well in advance. My husband is over 6ft; they sat us (for a birthday dinner) in the back, at a children sized table under the AC vent and 2 plants which obstructed table. We tried to reason with the host, he could not have cared less. 2 stars for the aesthetic. I don't get the appeal, Underwhelming food, pretentious staff. Le Colonial does not function like a local place; it is a destination spot that doesn't deliver. Sophia Steak and Deer Path Inn are both better options.
Be the first to ReplyI never write any reviews on Yelp or google or anywhere!
I never write any reviews on Yelp or google or anywhere! But today when I got back from my meetings all day all over the northwest suburbs I was craving le colonial cuisine! So I signed up for a Yelp account just to rave about how amazing this place is! I've dined here 2 times this year, didn't know it existed until a friend had a bday and that's where her husband invited us! Wow what a hidden gem! Second time I dined here we met the sweetest server ever, Hugo made our night so fun! I felt bad that when he came back with my left over fried rice and crispy noodle bowl and asked if I needed anything else I said " you in my life" I hope I didn't scare him, he was just so attentive and nice! I used to serve many years back in college but never had the patience or passion for it, but he literally made us feel so good! You could tell he loves his job and or is a good person period. That night we were celebrating my friends promotion at work and we were stuffed as we had ordered starters, salad, and our own entrees, we didn't do family style as far as entrees just bc we were all so hungry when we got there that we were being greedy hehe, but since my friends bday had just passed 3 days prior as well he brought us a crème brûlée which melted in our mouth just like he explained it! House made and just a nice light finish! After that dessert he convinced us to order a French pastry kind of deader with house made matcha gelato! Ugh so delish! I can't wait to have more meetings and work up in the north shore to come eat French/asian cuisine! Thank you again our Hugo our new "friend" and compliments to the chef as I'm craving your food at the moment but I'm too far to dine in or order Uber eats! Still wanted to come here and let everyone and you know what a good job you're doing.
Be the first to ReplyComing from the San Francisco Bay Area with many Vietnamese
Coming from the San Francisco Bay Area with many Vietnamese restaurants to dine at, I was quite impressed with this restaurant. Although it is not authentic, the French-Vietnamese concept was something unique that I have only found in bakeries. As a Vietnamese person who has been to Vietnam several times, this restaurant is an excellent ease for the American palette to experience Vietnamese flavors; though I think the menu could be more ambitious for example, including Bo Kho (with French bread) or Banh Xeo, it introduces flavors that I do not believe the clientele at this location would feel comfortable exploring given a different setting. I wish the dessert included more iconic Vietnamese flavors such as pandan or mung bean. Overall the service was excellent, and I will continue to be a customer and bring my American friends here. The menu needs to be more innovative, then it will be well done.

The food and service are nice, and the interior of the restaurant is cool too. However, this place is pretty pricey, and better Vietnamese food can be found elsewhere. I'd say this restaurant is pretty nice, but kinda forgettable.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious.
Have never really been to an upscale Vietnamese restaurant. Everything we had was so delicious and I was excited to eat the leftovers! Came here to celebrate a birthday on a week night and everyone enjoyed their meal. The steak as cooked perfectly and every dish had balance. Often find this cuisine can be too salty but never felt that wag here. Nice staff, insightful. Will be back to check out the Chicago location!

Food is excellent Crispy spring rolls are delicious The fried rice is perfection Cocktails are superb and refreshing Service is attentive and very prompt. Seating is very tight and cramped in my view. wish they were a touch bigger but it's a great place for a quick cocktail and some appetizers .
Be the first to ReplyThe ambiance of this location makes for a perfect special
The ambiance of this location makes for a perfect special occasions option - whether the main dining room, the patio, or the smaller group rooms, I have yet to have a seating at Le Colonial. The French Vietnamese food is definitely an elevated version of the familiar Vietnamese takeout options we're familiar with. The hand rolls are always a hit as starters as well as the flavorful pork ribs. When sharing, we always go back to the Shaking Beef but for lunch, the Pho Bo or the prix fixe lunch combinations have always hit the spot for us.

Charming restaurant. Unfortunately, the service was TERRIBLE. Even after bringing it to the attention of the management, nothing changed. Was very disappointed. This too, happened to someone I know who dined there the same evening.

My daughter took me here for father's Day and i have to say i was surprise by the amazing service we received. Joshlyn was our server and her service and attention was fabulous. The food was very delicious, we tried about six different things and loved them all. The mussels we got half of them did not open so they brought us a whole new order. The place is very well decorated I specially liked the white table cloth. I'm looking forward to next time!
Be the first to ReplyWe had an amazing meal.
Every single bite was filled with flavors. We had appetizers, salad, drinks and main courses. The desserts were as a work of art! The service was perfect.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is super pretty and fancy.
It has a dress code that must followed. Clientele are very snobby and there is a huge show of wealth at this restaurant. The food is good. The atmosphere is great. The people who are here and make it unpleasant to go back.
Be the first to ReplyWe just happened to be visiting the Lake Forest Market
We just happened to be visiting the Lake Forest Market Square and were smitten with this charming restaurant upon first sight. The bustling and beautiful outdoor patio called to us, and with Vietnamese food being some of my favorite cuisine, their front door plaque advertising French-Vietnamese fusion was equally alluring. We were a party of 8, with no reservations, so it was a kindness and a blessing they were able to seat us indoors, which was also beautifully decorated. The menu featured a multitude of enticing dishes that are a bit different from the usual Vietnamese restaurant offerings. I was very excited to give something new a try. The people sharing my table had varying preferences and familiarity with Vietnamese food, so we tried to get dishes that would appeal to everyone. We sampled the chilled vegetable roll, the sesame beef ravioli, pork and noodle dish, crispy brussel sprouts, grilled eggplant, and perhaps something else I am forgetting. My husband wanted a bowl of their pho bo, so I tried that as well. Table guests also ordered the two mocktails, Saigon Mint Colada and Le Diable. Both of those were good, but I'd say Le Diable was a little better. All in all, the food was sort of forgettable. Nothing really stood out as exceptional, and especially for the price. The meat in the sesame beef ravioli was especially a letdown, and the dish was overall sort of bland. When I think Vietnamese food, I am expecting a certain intensity of flavor, which nothing we tried really delivered. I have had authentic French food, and authentic Vietnamese food, both of which I preferred much more to anything I had here. Maybe we just ordered all of the wrong stuff, but still, too many things for none of them to be a hit. If I had to pick, my husband's pho bo was probably among the best of what was at the table. In summary, you are definitely visiting (and paying) for the atmosphere when you visit Le Colonial. I will also commend the service, which was gracious, kind, and hospitable to us. The food was fine, and inoffensive, but it won't be drawing me back.
Be the first to ReplyI never give 5 stars, unless they also have a Michelin star.
But for a restaurant in suburban Chicago, you can not get better. The outstanding aspect of this place is the service. Prompt, courteous, yet understated; that is, they attended to my every need, but were discreet and not obtrusive. Food is excellent and interesting. Certainly not something you'd find elsewhere. Vietnamese-centric, many new and interesting flavors. Pricy, but you don't get what you don't pay for. I will be back. Addendum: the short ribs are the best I have had.

I dined here over the weekend and had the best food and service ever! from the moment we walked in the place was packed and the vibe was amazing. I was celebrating my birthday and our lovely server Hugo made my night so amazing. All his recommendations were on point! Very attentive young man and just a great experience overall! The pho is delicious and full of flavor. The dumplings and ceviche were also delicious. The snapper was fried to perfection, we shared family style, definetley coming back.
Be the first to ReplyThis used to be a decent restaurant.
I used to come here often. But now, their dishes are nothing more than mediocre. For those prices definitely not worth it. I ordered shrimp stir fry, which was basically 4-5 shrimps and all onions for $32. Service was not good either. The waiter spilled most of my wife's cocktail on the way, and brought half full of the cocktail glass to the table. I am pretty sure I will not come back here voluntarily for dining.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant is gorgeous inside & out.
They have a beautiful patio & lovely bars. The food was amazing from drinks to dessert. Will was our main server & he was very polite & helpful in answering our questions regarding the menu. All the servers are top notch & helpful. They work as a team. My husband & I can't wait to go back.

Le Colonial dishes romance and sultry vibes along with refined French-Vietnamese fusion. Seriously luxurious ambience, replete with dark wood paneling, rattan furniture, and colonial upholstery. Well-appointed bar with a nice cocktail program and a good wine selection. The food is consistently well-prepared, with big flavors and nice portions. Service is classic white coat and was very kind.
Be the first to ReplyI love Le Colonial usually, and often choose this
I love Le Colonial usually, and often choose this restaurant for special occasions in my life. So when I went with my family to Le Colonial for my birthday, I expected an enjoyable evening. The food was excellent as always, but the service was not--and ruined the night. When we first walked in our entire party wasn't there yet. The host told us that he wouldn't seat us until the party was complete (not a big deal) but added he would cancel the reservation if they were 15 minutes late. Why say this, when they were not yet late? I told him it was my birthday celebration and his response was to tell us to go to the bar and not stand around. This set a negative tone to the beginning of the evening. We first ordered drinks, as the server recommended doing this before ordering our appetizers. The wine came out within 10 minutes--but the cocktails were more like 20-30 minutes--and the server had not come back to take our appetizer (smaller plates) orders. For some reason, when we asked to have enough soup for 7 people, he gave us three bowls and said we should share the bowls and spoons. With the main course, the fried rice shared plate and the jasmine rice meant to eat with the other plates came a full 20 minutes after the rest of our entrees (which we had already finished). We had reminded the server about the missing food--he gave us a blank look, and never came back to follow up or tell us they were on their way. After our meal, the server started throwing down plates for dessert on top of a messy table from sharing various dishes. When I asked him to clean it first, he gave me a dirty look, wiped it partially with a cloth, and asked sarcastically if that was enough (no, it wasn't clean). The restaurant added an automatic 20% gratuity because it was a group of more than 6 people. An added gratuity for a large group is standard, but I have never seen it as high as 20%. When you are spending $1K on dinner, this is a huge insult. What a disappointing evening. I am not sure if this a personnel issue, training issue, or management issue, but if your service does not match your food it's not worth going.
Be the first to ReplySunday night dinner was Le Colonial and it's typically
Sunday night dinner was Le Colonial and it's typically always booked for dinner, but they have a bar lounge where it's first come first serve and we practically had the room to ourselves throughout dinner. On a gloomy, foggy day a bowl of Pho sounded so yummy, and I was right, it was yummy. The presentation of the spring rolls was very cute, but I do wish there was more than just one shrimp in each roll, but I get food costs are rising. The lychee dessert is such the perfect balance of tart and sweet.
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I love Le Colonial.
We have been quite a few times and have never been disappointed. The staff is phenomenal and very knowledgeable and the food is delicious. The tables are a little tight in the main dining room, but we don't mind. It makes it feel more city-like (even though it's in Lake Forest)! The bar is also absolutely gorgeous.
Be the first to ReplyMediocre at best.
Service was poor but expected. Food was average. It really was not as "French" as I would have liked.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and presentation Ordered the cold appetizers
Great food and presentation Ordered the cold appetizers tuna tartare beet salad Egg rolls all delicious Hot small plates beef and chicken rolls were great too ordered a large soup which when asked for small bowls so 2 of us could share said the chef doesn't give out the small bowls so one cannot share That made no sense Our server was wonderful and agreed it made no sense .4 star

Be the first to ReplyWe went here for a birthday dinner and was pleasantly
We went here for a birthday dinner and was pleasantly surprised at the gorgeous gorgeous decor. The host stand was a bit off, I mean, the gentleman didn't crack a smile or say welcome or whatever. The hostess with him started walking away and I guess was waking us to the table but didn't say shiz to us, so she came back. She then walked us to our table in a cramped two-top adjacent to some large boisterous appearing party; and we automatically asked for another table. She didn't bat an eye and said she'd get us another table (great job Ariana for not having an attitude about it) and asked if we could go to the bar for a bit. We didn't wait long and she sat us in an adjacent room which was also nice and didn't appear like some afterthought room. We sat down and our waiter Jerrod asked if we wanted any drinks so we got some cocktails to start. As soon as we received the cocktails, Jerrod asked if we were ready to order and we replied that we were not. We were a little worried at this point because we felt a little rushed and that was not gonna happen, uh uh. Anyway, we enjoyed our drinks and ordered apps. Apps came: Vietnamese spring rolls and also the fried egg rolls that you wrap in lettuce. Omg, we have a Vietnamese friend that makes these and they're fantastic....but um hope he doesn't read this but, these were DaBomb!!!!! Jerred came back and loosened up more and started going with our flow. We ordered two entrees: salmon and the jumbo shrimp stir fry and he asked whether we wanted a side of fried rice or veggies, etc and we chose the fried rice. We chose the fried rice which was devoured as well. Needless to say we inhaled everything and it was damn good!! Jerrod came back and saw how we devoured our dishes and asked if we wanted to pack anything up. Yassssss! Humor!!! LOL. We ordered desert which was a coconut cake and Jerrod, knowing that there was a birthday, provided another desert in which he melted the icecream on a spoon. He called it free-basing and we nearly died laughing. More humor from our fantastic waiter! I love servers with personality and Jerred definitely had this! Kudos Jerred! All and all, we will def be back here. So happy that this NorthShore outpost is as good as the one downtown!! You need to go!!
Be the first to ReplyOne of the better restaurant experiences we've had.
The restaurant achieves a great balance in service, ambiance, food etc. The menu selection is interesting but if you want fish (which we wanted), the only choice was a shared red snapper (which was excellently prepared and presented). It was our anniversary and the restaurant went out of their way to make it special by presenting us with a free crème brûlée (best one I've had) incl. a chocolate sliver having "Happy Anniversary" written in it. Highly recommended!
