Avoid at all costs
We had an emergency which did not allow us to physically attend the reservation and was charged 15,000 THB (415 USD) for nothing. Mind you this is MORE than what the meal for 3 people would have cost. They justified it by saying it was to make up for “lost revenue” and “ingredients”. Loss making business if your ingredient cost is MORE than what the meal would have cost? Avoid this place at all cost, daylight robbery
Be the first to Replya Michelin star
Amazing. 6-course food and wine pairing menu. From surprise to surprise, the best thing is to go there. The tastes, presentations, high-level service and exposed kitchens make this address a safe bet in Bangkok.
Be the first to ReplyThe soup is delicious with the aroma of Thai spices.
My wife and I came here with high expectations, as this is a Michelin-starred restaurant ranked #1 in Asia's top 50. It's quietly located off the main road, on a side street. We ordered the course with the signature river shrimp dish and wine pairing. I was well aware that it was a busy restaurant, but the server's assembly-line explanation of the dishes was amazing in a way. He just kept talking in fast-paced English, and didn't seem to care if we were getting it right. On the contrary, it would have been better if he had just left it with a smile without explaining anything lol. As for the taste, we started with a delicious amuse-bouche, and then moved on to soup, fish, and meat. Everything was good, but the fish dish was a bit fishy for us... Each sauce was very delicious, so perhaps the fish was prepared, but the smell of the fish stood out, which was a shame. But the soup with Thai spices and strawberries! It was exquisite! It was an impressive dish that made me want to try it again! Overall, I'd give it 4 stars, but if you take the service into account, it'd be 3.5 lol. It was a good experience, and my wife was pleased. Thank you for the meal.
Be the first to ReplyDoes not hit the mark compared to other Michelin Star tasting menus! Very rushed no time to enjoy!
I was recommended to try Le Du as an amazing restaurant in Bangkok. Having enjoyed many European Michelin star tasting menus I was excited to see if the awards were truly a difference. Unfortunately they were not. We found Le Du, not sure if they were having work done to expand but wooden boarding around. Nice greeting but realised immediately a lack of atmosphere or ambience. Upon seating it felt like the race had begun…how quickly could they get through the courses to get us out! The red snapper was nice, pork ok, we ordered the signature prawn dish - biggest disappointment of the night for us and nothing special. Wagyu was tasty and after the next 2 courses done and dusted. Paid for what we felt was hugely disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyThis can’t be Asia’s best. Overall- place, staff, atmosphere, food, open kitchen on show case… all lacks finesse.
The place: Tables are placed very close to each other. You make a reservation, then you can walk in and pick a seat of your choice. No pre allocation. I see a man walk in in shorts, and he can just pick a table for 4 all for himself. It’s like a cafe. Toilet: male toilet- urinal in your face when you sit on the toilet seat. Cafe toilet. Quite disgusting. Michelin accolades placed in open shelf out side the toilet as if it doesn’t matter. Covered with finger prints. Loud retro pop cafe music. Food: Food is ok, but it’s really nothing special. River prawn feels under cook but staff brushed us off to say that how it should be. Petit 4 with market fruits. Staff: Open counter and preparation. I wanted to take a pic, but when I see the mess of super market plastic containers and staff preparing food. Not worth a pic. Open kitchen, again I’d rather they not be a showcase on display if you know what I mean. Overall, while it’s ok. I simply cannot believe this is Asias best. I’ve been to many that are so so much better than this. This place overall- lacks the finesse of a Michelin star and can’t be Asia’s best.

Very disappointing considering it is rated the best restaurant in Asia. - Very pricy for Asia - Food was good but nothing spectacular. Some ingredients didn’t go well together, there were not much complexity on the execution and taste of most of the dishes - tables very close together and environment looks more like a cafe - staff was nice but not super professional - fruits at the end of the menu made absolutely no sense to me Overhyped and overpriced definitely not worth it!
Be the first to ReplyCreative with hints of Thai Flavour
Our first visit in Bkk was 2019 and dine @ Gaggan original location .. now 2024 we are back and we tried Le Du With Gaggan he re-creates and represents Indian food in his own imaginative way. At Le Du the food is delicious & beautiful layered with a lot of ingredients and you will get that hit of Thai flavours in some dishes Of course Gaggan price is a few thousand baht more than Le Du but it does come with more dishes…for us the 6 course tasting menu with the added river prawn speciality and bottle of wine at Le Du was enough to make us full The service staff was friendly and attentive but could use further refinement. Things like when they are pouring wine occasionally they will drip a bit onto the table cloth. There was even once while I was drinking my red wine the waitress while clearing the plate somehow hit the bottom of my glass while I was sipping the wine…. No big issues but you do notice it Dining here definitely added enjoyment to our 2nd BKK trip… don’t over hype any restaurant in your brain or you will be disappointed
Be the first to ReplyThe best, and lived up to its billing
It is so very rare that I give a restaurant 5 stars! But as the current Best Restaurant in Asia, and #15 in the world, the best thing I can say is that it didn’t disappoint. We loved everything about it: it’s relaxed and informal, it’s busy, it has a darned good wine list at not crazy prices, the food is imaginative & superbly executed, and service is faultless. I’ve seen reviews of the ‘underwhelmed’ kind and I do get that. If you want the latest molecular gastronomy try somewhere like the Mandarin Oriental in Tokyo. There’s nothing here designed to wow, shock or impress. It’s all designed to be a hugely enjoyable eating experience. What’s wrong with that?
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food , horrible guests
For the food and the staff i would have given 5*, but the atmosphere was at the end really horrible. While i was still enjoying my courses there were people standing around , making fotos of them self or the restaurant, keeping going in and out, sitting with their mobiles on different free tables and now one said anything. That was really totally disrespectful to the hard work of the kitchen and the staff. I was in the mood to throw them out on my own. But…in only spoiled my evening in the end. I do not understand the restaurants policy and I assure you that i ate in dozens of Michelin starred restaurant in Europe and Asia. Please change your policy towards ignorant and disrespectful customers . Maybe i come back. Sincerely yours Dr georg schwarzkopf / south-west germany ( near the No.1 restaurant of the whole world in his moment)
Be the first to ReplyInteresting, unique, delicious
The curse of Le Du's rewards is the heightened expectations, and we had some trepidation. Happily, it was a great evening. We took the extended set menu, which also came with multiple other mini-courses and pre-desserts and bits and pieces. There were no dud courses. Surprising combinations- squid and strawberry!- worked. These combinations ran through the menu, not in an obnoxious way, but in a perfectly calibrated sequence. A real highlight were the two fish dishes- snapper and grouper- with the savoury sorbet served with the snapper unusual and delicious. Some of the 'food court' comments in other reviews around the restaurant's decor seem to be a bit out of sync with trends in fine dining, or are perhaps indicative of particular cultural expectations. This sort of 'relaxed chic casual' decor is a million miles from 'food court'. All the stone does make the room slightly noisy, but certainly not unbearable. Some tables may get the brunt of the airconditioning.
Be the first to ReplyLe Du - excellent
I was there with my son and we both enjoyed the dining experience tremendously. I tried the ant larvae and it was delicious. The other dishes were a feast for the eyes and various flavours combined well. The ambience was pleasant and the staff was professional. I would visit the restaurant again.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible service and disgusting wine ruins a would be Michelin Experience
I was at the restaurant last night with my fiance (May 20, 2022 @6pm). Let me start off by saying the food was delicious, creative, and unique. After reading reviews and with the food off to a great start, I had high hopes and expectations. The experience took a turn for the worse when we decided to go with the 6 course wine pairing at 2000THB each person. From the first wine to the last, the tasting just got worse and worse. The staff came by asking how was everything, I told her I did not particularly like the wine by the second pairing. The poor quality of the wine was detracting from the culinary experience and enjoyment of the food. The staff said she will let the chef know. The third wine tasting came out and was even worse... my fiance and I did not drink more than one sip. The 4th glass came out... 🤮.. Waitress came by and asked how was everything-- I mentioned the dissatisfaction with the wine. She said she will let the chef know again... Now we are almost near the end of the meal and have left nearly all the wine on the table un-drank. The staff clears the un-drank wine from the table. All subsequent wine pairings grows our disappointment. We still haven't heard anything back regarding the wine. At this point we just stop drinking any of it. The check comes and I place my card for payment- I tell a different waiter that the wine was terrible and barely drank any of it. The waiter says hold on he will check with the management for me. The first waitress which I complained about the wine brings back the receipt with my card already charged for the dinner AND WINE. I ask her about updates since this is my 4th complaint. She says she told the chef earlier but he already left so she can't do anything. I asked if he said anything and she replied, "He said he is sorry for your bad experience we will take this into account for the next time." I asked so that's it? I complained about the wine over an hour and a half ago, the chef decides to leave, you never give me an update, and at the end charge my card for it. (wine pairing alone was 4000THB or $125 USD). She repeats her answer and says sorry the chef left for the day and she can't do anything and already informed the chef and owner of the restaurant. As a Michelin star restaurant, I am extremely disappointed with how this was dealt with. The wine was disgusting and of such poor quality. It tastes like $3 wine out of a drug store. I can get better wine out of 7-11. To be a Michelin star restaurant, the service, ambience, and food have to meet a certain standard. The food definitely met the standard, but sadly the service and lack of attentiveness to an ongoing issue is awful. How can the chef and owner leave the restaurant knowing there has been a complaint that has not been addressed... After 4 complaints I had to ask if there was any solution yet... and the answer was "I'm sorry sir the chef has already left." I hope this feedback makes your restaurant better for the next patrons. I certainly will not be returning. Also want to note that the couple seated next to us, shared the same experience and left much of the wine un-drank.
Be the first to ReplyHair in our food
My husband and I were so excited to try this place but this experience left me disgusted. We found a HAIR iN one of the dishes. When I told the staff they admitted it was hair then we were ignored for the Rest of the night. We were also charged FULL price for the set. So utterly disappointed and disgusted by the experience. We did not get an apology at all. We will never be visiting again. It’s the way staff make up for bad experiences that makes restaurants great. This is unfortunately not one of them
Be the first to ReplySophisticated.
So impressed with the food and service. I came with my son who has had many Michelin starred meals and he was impressed too. I like that the food was very authentically Thai, while so much attention and care was put in every detail and the dishes were elevated to a new level of sophistication. The service was superb.
Be the first to ReplyThai fusion that will awaken all your senses. Your body will thank you for this .
Fusion Thai food that surprises you with every bite!
If you like yuzu, sake and something sparkling. Be sure to order the sparkling yuzu sake (I am still trying to find else where to buy this, it’s so good and easy to drink with the meal).
Definitely made it to my ‘must visit again’ list when they change their menu.
We were disappointed in Le Du
Le Du was a decent meal and it was one of our more expensive. At THB 9780/US $240 for two tasting menus, it created certain expectations. Unfortunately, it didn’t compare well with other meals we’ve had at high-end Thai restaurants in Bangkok. The room had a low ceiling and the décor needs attention; it felt like we were in a basement. The white walls kind of looked dirty. The young staff was lovely, knowledgeable, and informative. We were well taken care of.
The amuse course started with a delicious scallop with a grape and pickled veg on top. That was followed by a sticky rice cakes with herbs and crunchy mushroom morsels. That was unusual and good. The fermented bean puree was tasty. The next amuse was a crab with fermented fish and papaya. Also good. The 6th dish was smoked cobia with house-made chili paste, gooseberry, rose apple, mango, and a truly scrumptious caramelized fish sauce. The next dish was tiger prawn with tamarind and burnt onion and eggplant. It was good. The 8th dish was squid with a spicy curry sauce that was quite delicious but the squid was tough. The next dish was chewy beef shank with a river fish cake in a herb beef broth. Then came an uninspired plain lamb chop in hung-lay curry with a garlic puree and pumpkin in a tempura batter.
The pre-dessert was a pineapple sorbet with a yogurt chip and the dessert was a chocolate one. This restaurant makes a mistake with its final offering. With such a meal, you’d expect a last dish that would be memorably superb. Instead, you get a dish of common fruit – watermelon, jack fruit, and pineapple; oh, yeah, and the watermelon was mealy.
We drank a Mont Gras Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile (THB 1450/ US $44) that was good and we were served a complimentary port by Tao, the Director and Co-Owner (with Head Chef Ton). The meal cost THB 11453 /US $344.97
Sadly, very dissapointing
Let's start by saying this isn't a bad restaurant, but it is not at the level of the accolades it received.
On Asia's 50 best, and 1 Michelin star. £130++ per head. No way.
Going through the points one by one:
So the location is on a back street. I know this is Bangkok, and we can't expect the streets of Paris 8th or Mayfair, but let's not forget this place has a Michelin star, and setting is part of the criteria.
The amuse, whilst an admirable technical effort, was bland. This theme would continue.
First course of Prawn with Naan Prik ice cream was ok, but the prawn being cold did nothing to enhance it. This is an Asian prawn we are talking about, not a Atlantic cold water prawn, it didn't work.
Oyster from Trat. The tartare was very good, the fried oyster boring, and the sauces boring too. On another note, whilst I cannot in my right mind criticise the restaurant for this, but even in Europe, Oysters are very likely to make you sick. The idea of a Thai Oyster was scary. I ate it but in fear.
Next was chargrilled squid, with a northern curry sauce and a fried piece of squid too. Ok if you like squid, I am not a fan. The chargrilled squid did not have a very grilled flavour (smoke), the curry sauce tasted almost like Katsu curry sauce from an instant cube, and the betel leaves, whilst should have been full of flavour didn't have any punch. The fried part was ok.
The fish dish, was perhaps the worst of the meal, a small panfried piece of decent quality fish, with an extremely (more so than anything else) coconut sauce, could have been rustled up by an 8 year old. A crispy lotus root on top and some dried mackerel completed the dish, but added nothing. You might think I'm mad calling dried mackerel adding nothing (it should be very pungent) but it didn't.
We added the river prawn course, the prawn itself vastly undercooked, the rice very glutenous and sticky, almost like rice pudding in a main course, The sauce for the prawn was supposedly made from the head, and again, a recurring theme, very bland.
The last course of duck was good, well the duck meat was, the garnishes and sauce were rubbish.
Pre desert was passion fruit sorbet, decent enough, some coconut underneath. Actually, the best course in the entire meal. Being a pre-desert that doesn't say much though.
Pandan panna cotta with coconut ice cream, was actually good in flavour, but the texture was pathetic, more like a jelly from a supermarket than anything that resembled a pana cotta (GENTLY set cream)
There was then a fruit plate, it was good quality, but am I supposed to commend the chef for this?
Service was spotty, the plates were indeed served with aplomb, the welcome was friendly, the staff were all attentive, but despite ordering the wine flight, they waitress asked me if I am 'from France', which I look nothing like and speak nothing like a Frenchman, the reason she asked me was because she felt I knew more about the wine than her. The wine flight comprised of a cheap Cremant, Sancerre, Chablis, OTT Rose, Gigondas, a sweet Loire Muscat. Not very creative at all!
The list itself did contain some very nice bottles.
£270 for 2, only 1 one wine flight. Not worth it.
This is a £60-70 per head place at best, and that is at London prices, not Bangkok.
Given the food being so bland, I wouldn't even bother at those prices, but wouldn't be bad for people who want this kind of experience.
On a final note, the food may be more bland so that it pairs well with wine. Makes sense, I generally hate wine with oriental food, but the wine pairing looked like it was picked of the shelves of a CO-OP or Sainsbury's (UK average convenience store and mid to low end supermarket. But if this is the case either the wine or the food need to shine, neither did.
I had an excellent dinner
I had an excellent dinner
It was a set menu of 6 courses, the only option available for now, the chef added one extra dish , which was nice. All dishes were good, but small. Some were too small. All together it was a balanced and satisfying dinner.
Overrated...
Great food and compliments to chef however still doesn't deliver the expectation especially for a restaurant who has been awarded as the best restaurant in Thailand in Asia 50 best and who has 1 star Michelin.
Service is decent, not even close to Michelin standard. I have asked for toilet and I haven't been even guided and when I came back my napkin was still on the chair as I left. This is not the Michelin experience that I normally have.
It just doesn't justify it...
A simply wonderful dinner
It was one of these dinners which will linger in memory. The set menu was a cascade of unexpected, deep, complex and fun flavors. The service was precise, very timely and extremely friendly without getting familiar. The wines by the glass offered excellent choices and Chef Ton was gracious in spending a few minutes with us and kindly explained a few of the mysteries we tasted. Covid times meant a relatively quiet evening, with 4-5 other tables around us.
Just go.
Nice casual modern vibe
Nice casual modern vibe with see-through kitchen
Post covid, they only have the 6 course menu. And we added their signature prawn for THB1,000. Everything was very good to excellent, and the ant dish was a treat. Nothing too spicy, the majority of the diners were westerners
Very good service
Worthy of the michelin star, 4.5/5
Amazing twist of Thai elements
Tried some other best Asian 50 restaurants in Bangkok and I liked the dishes here the most.
Every dish was beautifully plated with edible flowers. Chef Ton, with his smile like flowers, greeted every table in a sincere way. You can feel the service from your first step into the restaurant.
The twist of Thai elements here was definitely the reason to come here for. Banana Prawn, the raw prawns in cold Tong Yum soup, was my favorite for the evening.
There has been a lot of tasty meals for our holiday in Bangkok and we did not go for the 6-course dinner at Le du but for 4. The set ended up with three desserts which appeared a bit too much at first sight. But they were just so appealing that we finished all with no regrets but workout the other day!
Top design menu with Asian flavor - our favorite restaurant in Bangkok
We enjoyed a unique designer menu discovering new Asian flavors - a fantastic surprise for our palates. The Chef-owner Ton, took his precious time to explain the menu and the idea behind. This top-20 all Asian restaurant made us feel to deserve more than one michelin star it has, if we compare it with the restaurants in europe. This restaurant has become our favorite one in Bangkok, also thanks to the personality and human quality of his Chef Ton.
