A superb lunch cooked and served by a delightful couple accompanied by an interesting and delicious wine, all reasonabl
This is what all restaurants should aspire to be; an excellent restaurant in every way. A delightful couple own it and run it. We have had Saturday lunch there. Why did we pick Le Gibolin? Whenever we are in a town or city either in the UK or France we refer to the Michelin Guide and look not for starred restaurants, but for those with the Michelin Bib Gourmand symbol. They are few and far between; many cities have none, even London has only 15 in the vast Greater London area. If I remember correctly, it denotes restaurants with good cooking for good value, I think a 2 course menu for about or below £30 or €30. We have always had an excellent meal in a Michelin bib gourmand restaurant. We were welcomed at Le Gibolin by the front of house, the wife (unfortunately I do not know their names). She gave us a choice of tables and took us through the limited and very good menu; as it turned out, three starters, three mains and three puddings. We would have happily eaten any of the choices on the menu. Also, the wine menu is extensive and very reasonably priced, starting at €16 for the cheapest bottle of white. The hostess recommended a delightful local wine at €24, an interesting mix of chardonnay, sauvignon, viognier and other grapes and delightful to drink. We had a three course lunch for €35, a mackerel fillet with a tasty sauce, followed by skate wing with capers and a “black butter sauce” and then a chevre cheese with salad which we shared and a chocolate mousse which we also shared. In effect four courses, but priced at three courses. All were superbly cooked and presented and served by the husband, the chef. We have been in France for two weeks and eaten some excellent meals, but this was without doubt the most interesting menu, the best cooked and presented food and wine that we have had on this trip. A superb lunch cooked and served by a delightful couple accompanied by an interesting and delicious wine, all reasonably priced. What more could you want as a Saturday lunch? A real find in Arles; to be highly recommended.

Easy cooked food with great flavors perfectly combined. The cook and his wife are friendly and serving the dishes. In a street with a typical charme of south of France!
Be the first to ReplyLe Gibolin, the worst place in Provenza
We are 6 friends in trip with school in france and we went to this restaurant. The waiter is very friendly but the food was very bad. We took 5 orecchiette and 1 meat, the meat was good but the pasta was terrible Because they put too much lemone and spices. In the end the prive was to high for what we got. we paid 28 euro for a horrible plate of pasta and a mini dessert. We dont suggest to go to this bad place.

Had dinner outside with friends in mid August. Food was good and in some cases just OK, service a bit too quick if you wish to relax and enjoy yur time there. Tables outside are too closed each other and positioned in the middle of a narrow street whereas pedestrians are walking continuosly, basically if you ar enot lucky with the chair you have people touching you any 2nd minute. It's a pity because food selection is quite wide and taste was good.

Unpleasant experience at this poorly managed restaurant. We booked it for a nice meal on our honeymoon despite reading some bad reviews we gave it a chance because we liked the look of the menu. We waited 40 minutes for someone to take our order. The menu is limited - only 4 main courses. After making our order, we were then told the beef was unavailable. So my husband changed it to veal. We were then told this was also unavailable. This meant 2 out of the 4 main courses were unavailable and there were no meat options! By then we had waited 1 hour, it was nearly 10pm and other restaurants in the area weren't open. We did not fancy the other options and asked to share one set menu between us so we didn’t starve but they refused. Waiters seemed overwhelmed and no food options available! There was no apology. They didn’t even offer a drink for the terrible service. Food when it arrived 1.5 hours later was tasty enough. There’s plenty of restaurants in Arles to get nice food and enjoy good service - not worth it: avoid. Don’t be tempted by the menu as it’s not even available.
