Le Petit Chef - Berlin Reviews from The Last Year
Very good
We don't understand the bad reviews, the food was very good, we were both full (I can eat a lot) and it was a great event. It is expensive but the experience is worth it!
A cooking event with potential or on the decline?
I had booked a table for five people and paid a total of 863.00 euros (172.60 euros per person) including drinks. The service team was very attentive, friendly and professional. For the guest it should be a special afternoon/evening, for the team it is noticeably routine. That's a shame because you can make more out of this event and miss opportunities. The welcome was rather poor and the anticipation of what was about to come was not aroused. An introduction to the service team and a short story about the idea and the origins of the event would have been appropriate. The image on the table was blurry. The sound was too quiet. The fillets were fried unevenly (1 x medium-well, 2 x medium, 2 x medium-rare). It tasted good, but it didn't fill you up. As I had already read this statement in other reviews, we went to eat at Duc Ngo's "Kuchi Kant" beforehand. Overall, the individual courses and the entire event were served quickly. A menu price of 75.00 euros plus drinks would be justified.
Much too expensive for what is delivered.
Nice idea, service nice to attentive, food nothing special (small portions, quality OK, actual cost per person probably around €20). For the money, €140 per person without (!) accompanying drinks, I think you can expect a lot more. The result is clearly overpriced for what you get.
Nice evening
Unfortunately, I had already had expectations...a nice evening with a cartoon and food. First the positive! The service was charming, attentive and friendly. The 3D projection was...well, blurry and somehow...I thought it could be much better these days. The story of the petite chefs is cute! The food was not good value for money. The meat in the main course and the lemon sorbet in the dessert were particularly noteworthy. The rest was unfortunately not to my taste...The truffle pasta was filled with ricotta and, in my opinion, truffle oil, but there was not a truffle to be seen...It was still very nice. I think the idea is wonderful, but unfortunately I cannot recommend the current implementation.
Disappointed
The price-performance ratio is not right. A lot of money for a four-course meal that didn't offer anything special. The portions were very small. The projector show was nice, but not particularly outstanding. The projection was only sharp at one place at the table. We were all disappointed and cannot recommend it.
Once and never again … in that respect “unique experience” Culinary as well as entertainment below average
Never eaten soooo badly and sooo expensively! Please don't give it as a gift or book it! Expectations were very low and were clearly not met! The food was cold and tasteless, the entertainment was below average! The music on repeat was particularly annoying!
Exceptional dinner
Le Petit Chef promises great culinary enjoyment combined with a small show that is projected onto the table. However, the two-hour show can only deliver all of this to a limited extent. In the back room of the 5-star Hyatt Berlin hotel, you enter a rather poorly designed room with lots of small white tables, the projection surface of the show. The first projection really knocks you off your feet, as lots of bright colors are used and the whole table is used as a projection surface. The other projections also use the whole surface, but are more restrained in terms of animation - it's quite nice to look at between courses, but not an absolute blast. For me, the meal was something culinary. Personally, I hardly ever eat steak or lemon sorbet, but that may be different for others. Whether the meal justifies the very high price is debatable. Overall, it was a nice evening, which unfortunately ended with a very high bill on the table, even though I had already paid for the entire meal - i.e. most of the bill without drinks - in advance. So the gift was somehow lost, since the value shouldn't have played a role.
Exceptional but poor value for money
I gave this evening at Le Petit Chef to my husband for his birthday and thought about a possible booking in September 2023. At that time it was a 6-course menu at a price of €139 per person plus drinks. When I booked at the end of October 2023, it was suddenly only four courses at the same price plus drinks. The food was tasty, only the dessert was pretty unimpressive. The entertainment is really very nice and entertaining. The service is professional and friendly. The atmosphere is pleasant. We enjoyed the evening despite the reduced menu, but would not book Le petit Chef again.
The food was unfortunately not up to the standard of a 5 star hotel
I agree with some of the previous speakers: Very nice and attentive service, limited choice of drinks. We would have liked to have ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail for the 13-year-olds, but we had to be directed to the bar next door. The food was all in all delicious, but always lukewarm at the table, which bothered me particularly with the fillet, which was also very well done for my taste (no one asks) and could have been seared more sharply on the outside. The second course with truffle cream was really negative for me, it was simply too salty, I actually wanted to inform the waiter, but was then distracted by the little chef. We also paid a hefty price and no, I have had much better food elsewhere, what a pity. It was my first time at the Hyatt Hotel - I found the lobby disappointingly unimaginative, especially the green sofa set, like from IKEA. The toilet wasn't worth a second course, very basic, take a look at the toilets in the Hotel Esplanade, for example. Still, it was a cute idea, and the Japanese chef won in the dining room! The children really enjoyed it.
Great and recommendable experience, unfortunately a little too short...
It was really impressive and a lovely experience for us as a family. The food was very good and the service perfect. It was worth adding the drinks package. I would have liked the "show" to be a little longer, as well as the time between courses. But still absolutely recommended!
Huge huge disappointment.
I'll start by saying that this is an experience that is way over priced for what it is. Although the reservation was for 6pm they didn't start sitting till 630; they offered complimentary house drinks (but it would've just been good to know that sitting was actually 630pm). It was also communal sitting which is not my favorite and opened sharing the experience with others and having to hear about it when it was not welcomed. The room is somewhat conference/ballroom mix so it does not have a restaurant/dining feel. Service was okay, most servers were attentive and friendly. The whole pace of the experience is choppy and slow, often having too much time between the courses and having to wait for everyone else to finish so they can move on. I believe I was expecting something more interactive with the guests and the actual food. It felt like a movie was just playing on the table. The story line was slapstick humor and somewhat G rated so there was little interest and captivation. There were some highlights with the food and presentation was beautiful. The Halibut was absolutely delicious, not only flavor but perfectly prepared. The NY Strip loin was just okay (it didn't even seem like the right cut of meat advertised) it didn't have much flavor and could not be cooked to ordered. The crème brûlée was a disaster (see video) it was soupy and clumpy. Again this whole experience could possibly be executed much much better or change it to target kids by changing the menu. Overall I would not do it again and will not be recommending this.
Unfortunately, our reservation for what was supposed to be
Unfortunately, our reservation for what was supposed to be a special occasion dinner was canceled. We should have had our experience on May 19th. We both left work early to ensure that we would arrive on time only to find out it was canceled once we got there because of "staffing issues". The hostess was kind and told us that we would be given a refund, but to give it a few days before checking in. She gave us the email of someone who is in charge of the event. We left disappointed but understanding. Now, after nearly a month, 4 phone calls, and 3 emails I am less understanding. I had no other option but to file a claim with my credit card company to try to recover the $270 taken to hold the reservation for an event that never happened. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and authorities after reading the reviews that I am not the only one who's money was never refunded. My hope is that this doesn't happen to anyone else.

I had this problem too when I first started. It took me about 8 screenshots before it was accepted. What is the reason they’re saying it is being rejected?
