Absolutely incredible experience here, and well worth the
Absolutely incredible experience here, and well worth the price. Sat at the counter where the chefs were very interactive and happy to answer any questions. The tasting menu was incredible - each course prepared with both presentation and flavor in mind. I can't wait to go back!
Be the first to ReplyMy family and I had a lovely evening there.
Greeted promptly and warmly. Very nice amuse bouche of Dungeness crab. Three of us went with the regular tasting plus the fois gras supplemental course - the other did the vegetarian tasting menu. Each course was unique, well-executed, and most importantly delicious. Wine pairing was on point and our two kids had really thoughtful and creative non-alcoholic pairings (some great restaurants get lazy on the NA options, but Le Pigeon did not!). Highly recommend for a splurge night.

Excellent tasting menu! It was a bit too slowly paced at times, especially in the beginning, but we enjoyed the meal very much. The venison tartare with a fantastic start, and the chicken and dumplings was super flavorful. We also enjoyed the short rib and foie gras (add-on) courses very much. I enjoyed the foie gras profiteroles best. The ambiance is rustic and homey. We had a chardonnay from Williamette Valley to go with our dishes, and it was super smooth and buttery.
Be the first to ReplyFinally got to try Le pigeon with a couple of my friends.
Overall it was good. The dishes were unique and presented beautifully and tasted alright. I especially liked the halibut and the desserts. Our server was amazing and accomodating. I liked how intimate the space was also but unfortunately, the night we went the music next door was very loud and it got a bit annoying and it was hard to hear conversations.

Celebrated our first anniversary at Le Pigeon and the experience didn't disappoint. The tasting menu was a journey through unique flavors, with each dish bringing something new to the table. Highlights included the rabbit musubi, pig foot and escargot, the roasted mistake they subbed in due to my shrimp allergy and an absolutely memorable foie gras profiterole. The wine pairings were a perfect match, elevating the meal even further. Everything from the service to the ambiance of the tiny cozy restaurant made our night special. They even had a happy anniversary printed out on our menu for us.

The service was pretty good, but the waiter kept leaving for long periods of time without even checking on me, for about 30 minutes at a time before I even ordered my main course of Chicken Dumplings, they were burnt and hardly filled with any chicken. It was way to expensive and the lights hurt my eyes. There wasn't enough food for the amount I had to pay and It was a downright awful experience. Do not go here you will regret it. But if you do some of the other foods were pretty good

I was really excited to celebrate our 10th anniversary with you guys since my friend had highly recommended for us to come here and sadly we were pretty disappointed in the overall experience. I wasn't going to post this publicly and sent a private review but Le Pigeon didn't respond which made this even more disappointing and thought folks might appreciate an honest review (wish I had known). TLDR: Not worth the price, service needs work, ambience isn't where it needs to be for a high end restaurant and definitely overhyped. First, when we were seated I noticed there was only one table open and it was sat very closely to a couple and asked the server seating us if that was our table that was close to them and they said yes and likely saw my hesitation. I almost moved the table over so we could have more space because it was 2 inches from our table (I wish I was exaggerating). We felt like we were getting sat at 4 top with strangers. The couple to the other side of us had a little more breathing room but we felt sandwiched in. It was just super uncomfortable for us to even conversate that we were actually having to text each other to communicate. At one point another couple was sat next to us as the first one left, we could tell they felt uncomfortable being so close to us. Then shortly after the blonde hair server came back over actually moved our table closer to them about an inch, almost felt that they thought we moved the table when it was the other couple that did. The first server was a blonde with short/medium bob haircut greeted us and gave us the tasting menu and left us to look at the menu and drink options. About 10 minutes later, I noticed they were helping several other tables, but hadn't gotten back to us so a friendly red hair server with a facial piercing came over to fill up my water and that's when I asked if we could order our drinks from them instead and they gladly did. I looked over and could tell that the red hair server told the blonde hair server about taking our drink order. It just felt like a very long time just for a drink order and we already had known which tasting menu we wanted before we even sat down. The food overall was okay (not worth the price at all after thinking about this more). We liked most of the dishes, but the fish plate was definitely overcooked and the first basket of bread was rock hard - at first I thought that was what it was supposed to be like until one of the servers asked if we wanted another and we got it and it was much softer the second round. Another thing that seemed like a simple gesture was that we came there to celebrate our anniversary and we had zero acknowledgment of that and I had put on Resy that that was the occasion we were coming to celebrate. I understand if you guys don't do anything special for it but the simple acknowledgment would have sufficed. And I know you're transitioning to Open Table so maybe that note got lost, but the first server to greet us could have asked while seating us if we were celebrating anything tonight like most higher end restaurants do. The music venue must have had a concert going on because it sounded like a rave was happening on top of us every 20 minutes and it was clashing with the music from the restaurant. I know it bothered the other couples around us who were also making comments. I know this isn't something you all aren't able to control, but it definitely gives off a weird vibe for such an intimate and cozy restaurant you all have. I did let the red hair server that they were wonderful because they ended up coming over the most often and taking care of us and every time the blonde hair server came over we just didn't feel they were very friendly the entire time after we ordered drinks from the red hair server. The other servers were good as well outside of the blonde hair one last night. I wish I could say our experience was different because I had some high hopes hearing about great experiences from other folks but as of now, I wouldn't recommend or go here again as I feel we really didn't get the experience we had hoped for, especially celebrating such a big occasion for us.

I decided to wait a few weeks before giving this review incase I changed my mind but the 3 stars still stands. I was pretty disappointed with the experience and food itself with the hype this place had. My partner and I went into it knowing the portions would be small but in the end, we both agreed that most of the dishes did not have a ton of flavor. With the price being as high as it was, we both were expecting so much more. The wine pairing was good and the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable. This experience makes it hard for me to want to do one of these again though but who knows. Thank god I had a $500 gift card from my boss, otherwise I might have given it two stars, since it's $325 to just get food as they do a 20% gratuity, no matter what.
Be the first to ReplyI'm struggling with this review.
In theory if I could I'd give it 3.5, I guess. Nothing terribly wrong, service was great the inside is small and cute but I honestly thought the flavors of the dishes would've blown me away more for the price. I had the vegetarian course with a wine pairing. The best items were definitely the mushroom soup dish, and the roasted Maitake. The beets dish was just bizarre, every bite I couldn't figure out what I was eating, some bites were good and then some not so good. Also serious kudos on the foi Gras dessert (had some of my partners bites), now that was something I thought I'd expect to see more of throughout the whole course of the meal. Since the menu changes I'm not sure how much this review of worth. If you have the money to spend (which I didn't but was invited to dinner) - go for it? I feel this type of setting is definitely for the people that like this niche market and I'd like to hope the next round of menus is better than mine.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely ON-POINT last night and unforgettable.
Every last detail from the amicable server to the focused kitchen staff were perfection. This place never disappoints. My new recommendation here has got to be the nonalcoholic pairing!! The mocktails were incredibly tailored to each course. The textures and balance of the food was impeccable and inspiring. (Pickled walnuts with venison whaaaaat!) This is one of those places I feel weird about reviewing on Yelp because it's so beyond good. It always makes me feel lucky to live in Portland and grateful to the people so committed to this craft.
Be the first to ReplyToo expensive for such tiny portions.
Pretentious. At least now I know after 20+ years when I could never get a reservation I wasn't missing anything.

Le Pigeon is a great choice for celebrating any occassion, for fancy dinner. We chose the chef's counter dinner experience and we saw the culinary magic happening in the kitchen. Never knew that french cuisine was so complex and has rich flavors. The service is impeccable, with a knowledgeable and attentive staff that complements the experience. Ambience was very rustic in nature. Not like the typical luxury dining ambiance, something rustic and interesting.

Le Pigeon provides outstanding service, featuring attentive staff and a welcoming, cozy atmosphere. Nevertheless, the overall ambiance is marred by noise from nearby businesses. Although the halibut dish is flavorful, there seemed to be a slight overcooking that detracts from its intended texture. Despite these minor shortcomings, the restaurant's inventive menu, blending unexpected flavors and artistic plating, contributes to a memorable dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyLe Pigeon never disappoints.
We try to make it there anytime we are in Portland. I am not a vegetarian but ordered the vegetarian chef's menu so we wouldn't miss out on any dish and I am so glad I did. It sounds weird but the omelet was one of the best dishes I've had in ages. The food was great, the service was great and the wine pairings were wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyI think Le Pigeon has seen better days.
The food was super tired. I mean we couldn't wring one ounce of joy outta those entrees. Even the pictures look tired.I'm tired just writing this. Needless to say this was a disappointing experience for what was supposed to be one of the best restaurants in the city. It was not... now off to bed.
Be the first to ReplyOur meal at Le Pigeon was a wonderful experience.
We sat at the counter which allowed us the pleasure of watching the food be prepared in a restaurant like this, that is a true treat as each plate is like a work of art.The biggest surprise of the meal for me was the beer can chicken dish. It's fascinating to see how dishes can be elevated and it was possibly the best chicken I've had in years. I would encourage diners to order the supplemental dish as well. Last night it was a foie gras tostada with beautiful layers of flavor. We did not do the drink pairings, but many around us did and it looked like a reasonable and tasty accompaniment. You will leave the meal feeling very satisfied!

I am a 65 year old lifelong vegetarian and the meal that I had last night at Le Pigeon was the best meal I have ever had in my entire life. It was a tasting menu, which was a special treat, a little bit of a lot of things, and yet it was balanced and flavor filled and perfectly filling, and I somehow managed to make room for the exquisite desserts at the end of the meal.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food and service and a experience.
Not only was the food beyond expectations the staff and chef show true pride in food and experience. Worth the wait to get in, it's a true treat, very ada friendly
Be the first to ReplyI may or may not have impulse booked a tasting here for me
I may or may not have impulse booked a tasting here for me and my husband, but can you really blame me when my entire life revolves around food?We had a late reservation on Friday evening and were able to be seated pretty darn quickly. We were at the chef's counter which was great esp if you like watching them make the food and seeing all the preparations! The interior is cozy and dimly lit and has a pretty welcoming vibe. I was suuuper happy that they had a vegetarian tasting menu so that I could actually experience this cute place with my omnivore husband though we did hear some whispers around us about my vegetarian order that weren't the nicest -- oh well, to each their own.We opted to do the reserve wine pairing for me and the non-alcoholic pairing for my husband who detests alcohol -- good choices for the both of us haha This did add another $100 to our meal but it was a little holiday splurge. Food came out at a good pace and honestly everything was delicious including the bread that they brought out to start with. For me, the initial brussels sprouts salad was so well balanced and my husband really enjoyed his ox heart. We had different things for the rest of the courses and each one was great! I had garganelli pasta, dolma, and squash which were all delicious.Dessert wise I got have a delicious almond dessert with mousse and a seasonal dreamsicle while my husband had the foie gras profiterole -- he liked it but felt like the duck fat was overwhelming after a certain point.Service was friendly and the entire experience was great overall though as expected a bit on the expensive side. Le Pigeon was a great spot to try and we will definitely return once the menu starts shifting and there are new delicious goods to try!
Be the first to ReplyI've dined here many times and tonight was just as unique
I've dined here many times and tonight was just as unique and amazing as all of my other visits. Service is always impeccable and the tasting menu just superb. We did the supplement dish which was fois gras bacon. I'm here to say that I've had fois all over the world, but this seared fois was out of this world. Seriously, probably the best I've ever had. I can never say enough about this place. I continue to believe it is the best restaurant in Portland. Gabriel Rucker never seems to rest on his successes. Every dish was interesting and innovative. Bravo to the whole team!
Be the first to ReplyHad a wonderful experience dining at Le Pigeon while
Had a wonderful experience dining at Le Pigeon while visiting Portland! They were running behind when me and my friend arrived for our reservation, so they offered complimentary drinks for us. I appreciated the gesture and the wait was just an extra 10 minutes. We opted for the five-course chef's tasting menu as we had a hearty lunch prior. Great price and all the dishes were of exceptional quality. Our courses included the Salmon Mi-Cuit, Seared Foie Gras, Sweet Corn Risotto, Grilled Pork Ribeye, Our fifth and final course was a dessert that was a ruby chocolate and cherry cake. All the dishes were terrific! My favorites were the grilled pork ribeye and the risotto. The cuts of meats were prepared perfectly and melted in my mouth and I am an absolute sucker for a good risotto. We were also treated to an additional course which was a Foie Gras Profiterole. The profiterole was outstanding and much more my dessert style!Overall had a perfect time here and the staff was very generous and went out of their way to make sure we had a great dinner for just waiting a few extra minutes.
Be the first to ReplyUnderwhelmed.
I am a big foodie and after living in Portland for 9 years this restaurant has always been on my list. Should've went when they opened years ago. Did not life up to the hype or price at allThe space is incredibly cramped. And the tables looked haphazardly thrown together. Not even any creative touches for the dining space. Why am I even commenting on the table? Because for a $300+ meal I expect nice decor, silverware, and napkins! (Quaintrelle gets this right for half the price)The food was mediocre at best. The only dish I really loved from the vegetarian menu was the first dish- really interesting flavors and textures. The spaghetti squash dish from the meat menu was inedible. Cold and not pleasing flavor profile. And note to others - they do not have a full bar!I LOVE canard and think the food and ambiance next door beats le pigeon by a mile. Won't be back here.
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to try this restaurant ever since I saw it on
I wanted to try this restaurant ever since I saw it on Unique Eats in 2012. 10 years later, I finally did it and on my birthday no less. It's definitely a pricey meal but it's worth every penny. It's a small restaurant but I never felt crammed in. Service was friendly and attentive. I can't remember our servers name but she was very personable, funny, and helpful with any questions we had. There was no shortage of foie gras but it came in different forms so it never felt monotonous or redundant. My favorite dish was the braised goat, but the big surprise was the foie gras profiterole. It's visually appealing but I had no concept of how it would taste, and I'm not even sure how to describe it other than an intensely rich and flavored pastry. Definitely a highlight of the meal though. Overall each dish had great mixes of flavors, textures, and were all visually stunning dishes. If I ever visit Portland again I'll definitely visit Le Pigeon again.
