Do NOT Go !
This restaurant is a typical tourist trap !! The waiter is quite pushy and tries to sell you expensive drinks prior to even have sat down properly. When he presented the menu, he promoted the fish soup as being their "flagship" dish together with a recommendation dish which was the Skrei. Let's start with the fish soup : it lacked taste and was watered down. It hardly had any seafood inside (1 cube of white fish and 2 very small shrimps next to a more generous amount of shredded carrots). It was like if you added 1 liter of water into a cup of soup, it did not taste of anything. The skrei came with its roe, liver, a spoonful of melted butter, some sliced carrots and small potatoes on the side. This dish also lacked seasoning and was bland. The skrei was poached or steamed without seasoning, just like the thinly slices carrots. Everything was bland and lacked taste. I wonder when the chefs learned to taste food before serving it ??? When the waiter asked for feedback, we told him what we thought in a constructive manner. Later another person came to ask what went wrong but the feedback received was nothing they cared about.
Be the first to ReplyLong wait time for meal
We were looking for a restaurant with sea food of good quality. Lofoten was recommended to us by some friends and we were uber excited to try Norwegian oysters. We wanted to try as many dishes as possible, so we ordered a 2 and a 3 course meal, oysters, mussels, soup, sandwiches. The atmosphere was good, the food was good, drinks were on point, the staff was friendly but somehow inattentive. The most disappointing part of our experience was the time it took to get our food. We didn't get to eat the dessert that came with our 3-course meal, as we waited and waited and we didn't have more time to spend there. Unfortunately we had already paid the bill, so we just left without consuming part of a meal we already paid for. We were there for about 3 hours! Unfortunately, I would not recommend it..
Be the first to ReplyA lovely meal, all in all.
I don't ordinarily post restaurant reviews but because I was shocked by what some others have written here, which was entirely contrary to my experience, I decided to speak out. In short, the food was marvelous. I started with the fish soup, which was unusual and very subtle in its flavor--highly recommended! I followed with the baked cod, accompanied by a fine glass of sancerre, and finally the sea buckthorn mousse. All delicious. Some commentators have complained about the service. I found it friendly and helpful--my only reservation is that, for a restaurant of this type and at this price point, there should have been more personnel on hand: they could not be as attentive as I think they might have liked to be, and often seemed to be rushing back and forth to attend to everything; the atmosphere would be more relaxing for customers if the staff could be more relaxed. But even with that, I would happily return here and recommend it to others.
Be the first to ReplyQuality lacking in quantity
Nicely dressed tables and nice ambience. Quality food, however, the quantity was extremely disappointing. Just one scallop for a starter and for main a piece of Char the size of a playing card surrounded by a few miniscule potatoes. What made it worse was the inconsistency; those around me (in the know) had the special, which consisted of very much larger cuts of fish and, if that wasn't enough you could have refills! I did complain and to be fair they gave us dessert on the house. Service was very good until a change of shift, and then it took a couple of asks to get the bill. We left very disappointed and hungry.
Be the first to ReplyOvercooked Skrei
Great location, good ambience and staff. Ordered seasonal speciality of โskreiโ, cod that has returned to Norwegian coast to spawn between January and March. Despite being the special on the menu it took over ยฝ hour to serve. The fish was overcooked and needed chewing, potatoes undercooked, carrots old. Did the chef have a night off? A couple of days later we bought some skrei from local fishmonger and cooked at home - lightly poached the flesh falls apart and melts in your mouth, medium sized carrots and new potatoes lightly cooked and fried are sweet and tender - a totally different experience.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service & delicious flavors
We ate a 4 course chefโs menu. Appetizer was full of flavor and good mix of different kinds of textures. Soup was creamy & delicious. Main dish, which was Halibut with Gnoccis and cheese sauce was also delicious. Never had fish with cheese sauce before, so it was a pleasent new mixture of flavors. Dessert was a little bit of a disappointment and it lacked flavor & little โkickโ. Service was beyond amazing. We felt welcomed from the start to the end. Huge thank you!โค๏ธ
Be the first to ReplySeafood Lunch in Oslo
We looked for a seafood restaurant and found Lofoten. Nice restaurant with sea view just next to port. Amaizing food, great atmosphere and very good service on reasonable price. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing. Poor quality of the worst fish soup in Norway
I ordered the BIG fish soup and I received a large bowl with a very SMALL PORTION (as if it was for a toddler) with exactly 4 small pieces of fish, 3 shrimps and few thin slices of carrot. The soup was sour and didn't taste nice, which as far as I'm concerned is not according to the traditional Norwegian creamy fish soup. We were requested to leave our jackets at the entrance, but for some reason this applied to some customers only, later I observed the customers besides our table hanged their jackets on their chairs. The service was poor as well; the waitresses didn't want to reply in english and the bill took too long to arrive even when the place was almost empty.
Be the first to ReplyCold, rude and lazy.
Saturday evening, a few minute after 21, the restaurant was 70% empty, we asked a table for 4 people, they answered if we had a reservation otherwise not table.
Not comment.
Now I understand why every time I pass in front the restaurant is almost completely empty.
