On my penultimate day in New Zealand before heading back to
On my penultimate day in New Zealand before heading back to Seattle, I wanted to have some lamb. I searched high and low on yelp, tripadvisor, and google and found 3 restaurants with potential. The first was out of business, the second offered a hot stone, so you can cook your own lamb (no thanks, I'm out to eat, please have the trained chef cook my food) and Lone Star. Knowing its Texas influence, I was worried that my vegetarian wife would be left eating salad. Nope, there were four vegetarian "mains" and none were devoid of nutrients (aka pasta and veggies). I chose Lone Star. We were seated quickly by an upbeat host and asked to sit in the corner table, to which he obliged. Our server was friendly and down to earth and we got mushrooms and a salad for a starter and the mushrooms were delish! The salad also hit the spot. For mains, I got the lamb shoulder with mashed taters and asparagus, peas and spinach mixed together. It was aesthetically pleasing and I had the runner load up my potatoes with fresh cracked pepper. My wife's burger was HUGE and the chips (fries) were plentiful. We had 2 large Diet Cokes with lotsa ice and a pitcher of water, not a little carafe that I can drink in 3 gulps. The desserts looked great, including Hokey Pokey ice cream, but we passed. Our bill was $88 NZD ($59 USD). Well worth it. I met the manager after and he was a pleasure and I could tell he was taking care of the business.
Be the first to ReplyA really nice place to drink and bond with friends, though
A really nice place to drink and bond with friends, though quite pricey. The ambience is definitely great for a fun night out, and the furnishings are of quality, though food ain't the best though portions are large, so be sure to ask about the portions if you're unsure. Also, serving times take a while especially when it's busy.
Be the first to ReplyJust stopped over for dinner.
Person at the front was so slow....She said we would be seated in 10 minutes when they opened the restaurant at 5 so we ordered two drinks at the bar. Guinness came right away, Margarita took 15 mins. A half hour later, no restaurant seat. She forgot us. Bye... Paid bill and left. Do not bother.
Be the first to ReplyGreat meals, huge portions! The chicken was very succulent.
Is on the expensive side of things, so perhaps not a regular place to dine personally. All in all, very pleased.
Be the first to ReplyThe best part of the menu.
Of course is desserts and of I left room for the chocolate pudding. It was a great way to finish a wonderful evening. The staff were outstanding. Thank you

Awesome and just the right size, the coleslaw not to wet just enough dressing also the apple & ginger sauce was a treat. The staff were spot on, friendly and informative of the menu & specials board. Looking forward to my next visit to Lone Star Dunedin. .
