Lovely hotel with great staff
Check In:
We arrived to this hotel and were immediately greeted by the concierge who took our bags for us and lead us to the lobby bar for a welcome drink and we met our check in person. It's a nice touch to be able to have a drink and check in with an iPad rather than standing at a desk. (A note that the Reception desk isn't obvious when you enter, it's just off to the left as you come in the front door) Our only quibble at this point was we were left waiting 4 hours for our room despite using the Hotel App and Whatsapp to ask. Not a major quibble as we enjoyed the all inclusive drinks at the bar while we waited.
Rooms:
Our room was 710 and was lovely and clean. The rooms are a little dated looking but always immaculately clean and everything worked in the room. We weren't bothered with the TV and to be honest only used our room for sleeping, showering and getting changed for the evening. The view was lovely and the rooms were fairly large including a sofa and chair. I've seen people mention that they got 2 single beds pushed together, we had this and didn't feel it was an issue, at least my other half stayed on his side of the bed for once! :)
Dining:
The buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner and beach restaurant for lunch were always well stocked and had various choices for food. There was always something you could choose that you would be happy to eat. Breakfast was a wide selection and special mention to the pastry chef who was there cooking fresh pancakes in the morning and different fresh made desserts in the evening.
We managed to get a reservation in all 3 a la carte restaurants (a tip that if you can't book on the hotel app, just go to reception and ask if they have any space)
The Asian, Italian and Greek are all amazing and great quality food. I would recommend all of them and it was a nice break from buffet food.
We need to mention Ilias from the beach bar who was absolutely fantastic! Super friendly, helpful and one of the most hard working people we saw. I would love to see how many steps he does in a day!
Entertainment Team:
We loved the entertainment team. Michele the Entertainment Leader is fantastic, friendly and approachable and ran a great water aerobics class! A special mention to his music choices for the music around the pool. Sara is a ball of energy and always up for having a laugh. We had great fun in the water polo match (something we wouldn't normally do but Sara made it really fun) Magdalene is also a special mention with her water yoga and calm energy she brings. I was recovering from a knee op and she offered a yoga session tailored to recuperating my knee. A lovely touch.
I would say that the evening entertainment is geared towards the children as a whole but they have music duos and a DJ for a chilled out evening for the adults in the beach bar. If you want more, head to Faliraki or Rhodes Old Town which are a cheap taxi ride away and are great!
Facilities:
The pool is always clean - there is a pool guy who cleans every morning. You do need to arrive early in the morning to get a sun lounger as despite the hotel policy of not saving sunbeds for hours without anyone using them, people still do it. In our stay, the hotel staff did remove towels for those where they were left unattended for an extended period of time. There are plenty of loungers in the garden area and beach that you can use around the pool. I think due to Health and Safety they only have a set number already out by the pool which is fair enough.
The housekeeping staff are friendly and do a fantastic job around the whole resort, not just in the rooms. They always say good morning and work very hard!
We didn't use the spa but the lady who comes round isn't pushy or rude and the prices looked reasonable.
We didn't really sit on the beach as we preferred the pool atmosphere so can't comment too much on this but it always looked clean.
The lobby bar drinks service is a little on the slow side, with wait times being a little less than acceptable but just order 2 drinks at a time :)
Final Points:
We stayed for 10 days at this hotel and it was extremely relaxing. We will look to return again in the future!
Tips and Tricks:
- Towels are located from 10am-3pm every day just by the beach in a hut. It's not obviously placed
- You can find all the cocktails and drinks menus on the hotel app which you will need to download when you arrive
- If you want a sun lounger all day in a prime spot, you will need to get up early to get one. (By 8/8:30am was the norm when we stayed)
- If you miss lunch, they do takeaway boxes from the beach bar of burgers, club sandwiches, toastie and salads. Well worth it as extremely tasty!
- The ice cream is a must down at the beach bar!
There is a man called Evan who works the bar in the morning and does the buffet 2 pm onwards , best worker ever !!!
Pool life Gaurds don’t want to do anything but sit there and most the women that work at the hotel are very rude except the ice cream and prank cake lads near the beach they are brilliant . The rooms are very dated and need updating alot and the carpet in the halls is bad
Be the first to ReplyGood hotel, but there are nuances
Good hotel, but I strongly don’t recommend it to solo travellers, young people without kids and couples who don’t enjoy being surrounded by strollers, baby chairs, toys and bottles etc. during the whole their stay. 80% of guests are families with very small children. The evening animation is very poor and only for children. I happened to be a solo traveler this time, and felt really weird and not welcome there. In the restaurant, the hostess Elektra often treated me like I didn’t deserve a good table, because I was alone. However, that’s mostly a problem of my wrong choice, not of the hotel itself. But what is the problem of the hotel, disregarding your family status, is its extremely slow drink serving service for all inclusive guests. You can eat half of your dish waiting for your drink, and getting the second drink is almost impossible - the waiter can pass across you 10 times pretending not to see you. Same story in the lobby bar - you wait for 20 minutes and they bring you cocktail with almost no alcohol in it. And then spend your evening trying to draw a waiter’s attention, who pretends not to see you. It’s not about service, but about the hotel’s business strategy. They obviously try to cut costs by doing that. Restaurant host service seems to make guests rather annoyed than comfortable, because of waiting in the line and being seated at a table that a host has chosen for them not they themselves. It seems that the hotel is rather creating capacity-lack problem than solving it. Often people on vacation don't mind company of other people. So, such people could invite other guests to join them at the table, but they can't, because these guests are kept by the host in the line. If to look at the bright side, the cuisine is absolutely wonderful and varied. The desserts are amazing. Huge gratitude and respect to the kitchen team.
P.s.: the entrance into the sea is very dangerous with big stone slabs covered with algae and abrupting unexpectedly. Please be very careful and wear water shoes.
Friendly fun in the sun
A mostly friendly hotel with very good amenities . A special mention to the porter, Anastasia with the huge smile and the super friendly entertainment team who delivered fun pool sessions. Pool aqua aerobics and pool yoga were a first for us , just the right level of fun.
The A la Carte Italian restaurant was a definite highlight of the copious amounts of food we ate.
Relaxing break, very hospitable staff
My husband and I have just returned from a beautifully, relaxing break at Grecotel Dama Dama. The hotel was spotless if a little tired in places. All staff were extremely courteous and very hospitable. The food was cooked well and fairly varied.
I would have liked there to be more evening entertainment for the adults - the El Divo act was superb! More of this please!
The lack of space/sunbeds and parasolls around the pool was a bit of an issue so we had to visit the beach most days. I usually love the beach but this one was extremely stoney and had bizarre sections of concrete in the sea which made it extremely difficult/dangerous to get in and out of the sea.
I need to make a special mention to the fitness team or namely the amazing, truly gifted lady that is Magdalene - I can honestly say that she made my holiday! Yoga or pilates every morning at 10.30am in the beautiful lush gardens of the hotel followed by aqua in the pool then aqua yoga in the afternoon followed by more yoga/relaxation in the gardens once more. She really is a very special person and The Dama Dama are very lucky to have found her. I urge anyone who stays to give her classes a go, you will not be disappointed and you may find that you leave your holiday feeling not just refreshed and revitalised but so much more grounded, joyful and happy! Thankyou Magdelene !
Not a 5* hotel. outdated rooms. Slow service. Low quality food.
Hello,
To give some background, I’m a young, avid traveller and lover of islands/beach vacations. On this occasion, I was travelling with my mother, who works as an emergency doctor in the UK.
We picked this hotel via an agency and based on the price point (highest offered on the website) and the photos (looked modern, cool, calm & relaxing).
I cannot fault the lobby upon arrival - overlooks the impressive pool and has interesting decor (red & cheetah print). The bar looks very charming.
We checked into our room and the disappointment started. It was Communist-era wooden bed frames and I wouldn’t have even rated it 3* worthy. We complained to reception and they told us they had upgraded us to this room. We were offered to view our original room, which we preferred and moved to. Our luggage was left behind in the lobby and we had to contact them via WhatsApp to receive it.
The room was fine but not “luxury” and the bathroom (photos attached) was probably last renovated before I was born (1992, for reference). I’ve never seen such an old hairdryer in a hotel purporting to be luxurious.
The next morning, we went to breakfast. Having stayed in other Grecotel hotels and other Greek islands, I was surprised by how small and unvaried the choice was for such a large hotel. The food was low quality (scrambled eggs were awful), lots of carbs and somehow even managed to get a Greek salad to be unappealing. The service was also lacking - often long queues to be seated and forgotten coffee orders almost every morning (we stayed 8 nights).
We only visited the hotel beach the first day we arrived (photo attached) and it was really disappointing for a Greek beach. Pebbly & what looks like a safety hazard - an old disused pier/dock.
We rented a car and visited Sandy beaches the rest of our holiday.
Sorry to say, it is the last time I will stay at a Grecotel.
Average
I stayed for two weeks , my findings follow
Staff are helpful and hospitable
Hotel is average , knee jerk holiday based on the reviews I saw and images ….
Not a nightmare as your going to a beautiful island , I personally like an outgoing holiday and didn’t want to spend much time in the hotel .
A lot of the entertainment wasn’t relayed at all , so had no idea what was happening.
A la carte meals , went to all 3 restaurants on the first week , on the last meal I literally left as I don’t expect to be sitting 2 hrs plus for a meal (happened every meal 2- 2 1/2 hrs)
Following week I didn’t bother , went out for meals , only one meal I had was on par with the hotel, rest literally made me wish I had gone for bed and breakfast
1000 rooms and 2 toasters ? Really ?
Sunbeds literally gave up on them , free for all , walk away for 10 mins someone else is on it at the pool .
Beach was ok not as bedraggled as a few are making out, just have to physically go lift a sunbed and place it where you wanted it , just left at the entrance to the beach
Staff at the hotel ,all bar a few were run off their feet the second week , not a bad word to say about the hospitality shown .
The all inclusive part , there was a little section with a few pizzas and salad in there , frequently went and it was empty or had very little content in it
Wi-Fi is pretty non existent and the tvs are simple and small (can’t cast a film onto it )
Mobility, my wife is extremely poor sighted ( brain injury )but won’t accept help , tripping on the odd tile and the step layouts can be difficult to manage , some of the rooms are a fair walk from the hotel ( no internal connecting passageways )
During the stay my wife and a few other people we chatted to were being bitten, went to the doc at the hotel , Gave her cream and said it was mosquitoes, back in the uk the verdict due to the clusters of bites were bed bugs or mites, only happened after the double bed appeared ( mattress topper)
Finally the rooms are pretty average , two single beds plumped together, ask for a double you will get a mattress topper that you will disappear into as the night steals your soul if you decide to sleep in the middle of the bed
Met a few amazing people and enjoyed the island
I’m a one trick pony ( only one chance of providing what I’ve been sold ) so for that reason , I won’t be returning to this hotel , I wasn’t inspired .
I’ve given it 2 stars simply as the online images do not match the reality , I’ve visited many 4 star hotels , sadly this isn’t one and I’ll put it down to experience
Relaxing Happy Holiday
I really enjoyed my holiday once again at the Grecotel Dama Dama, it feels like coming home. The staff ALL look after me really well and nothing is any trouble. It's lovely to see the smiling faces of the staff which says to me that they are all happy working there. I'd like to thank Dimitrios the manager for his hospitality and Christina the customer service manager. It seems unfair to single anyone out because of the welcome I receive each day but I would like to thank George from the reception bar for looking after me each evening and bringing me my drinks.
The food is excellent in the dining room with plenty of choice for everyone and I also ate in the Asian and Italian restuarants, really good menus and very good food.
The whole hotel is always extremely clean and tidy, nothing out of place, the refurbishment of the public bathrooms has to be commended. The reception staff are always cheerful and helpful and can make a reservation for you at the restaurants if you aren't able to do it yourself. They have bus timetables for Faliraki, Rhodes town and Lindos as well as several beaches. the bus stops are on the main road near the hotel.
I think the entertainment could be better, more live entertainment, it used to be really lively, now it's very quiet at night and as a solo traveller a bit boring.
I look forward to seeing everyone later in the year.
Great holiday- food was amazing
We had a great week staying at Grecotel Lux Me Dama Dama
After spending a week here I cannot complain about a single thing.
The room was spacious, clean and the AC was amazing.
Every member of staff was welcoming and very helpful. They have a 24 hour concierge service via whatsapp which they are very quick to respond on. We had a slight problem at 3am when we arrived at the hotel. We had a response within 5 minutes and a resolution within 10 minutes. I cannot fault them on their service.
The food and drink options are great. One piece of advice, if you can book in to any of the a la carte restaurants as part of your package, DO IT! We ate at the Asian and Italian restaurant and honestly they were 2 of the best meals we have ever had anywhere in the world. The all inclusive buffet restaurants always had good options and the food was always stocked.
All in all a fantastic week away and we would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Rhodes!
Thank you to Lambros and all of the staff at Grecotel
