Delicious and Friendly
This is a beautiful restaurant and I cant believe I waiting so long to try it. I would say the service was so lovely. Kind and friendly from start to finish. We tried many of their dishes and all were so tasty, fresh and beautifully presented. Highly recommend: 1) Birria Plate 2) Carnitas Plate 3) Citrus Salad 4) Tacos Ahogados (Taquitos) 5) Mole Confit 6) Guava Cheesecake 7) Watermelon Margarita It has such a lovely little bar inside, patio seating and live music on weekends.
Be the first to ReplyDELICIOUS- really lucked out finding this place!
Great place- super high recommendation. We lucked out getting a 5pm reservation right when they were opening. A lineup of people outside, and then we discovered why. Inventive dishes and was really delicious- had the steak- amazing flavors and high quality meat.

Not your typical Mexican restaurant with no vibrant colors; instead, it's a trendy and open-floor concept. Great to have big parties. Parking on the street or structure nearby Service was good, the food presentation was lovely, and mezcal drinks were on point Appetizers: Guacamole with plantains - was flavorful, and you didn't miss the chips Tetela - the bean puree with the quesilla with the tomatillo salsa made a perfect pair Citrus salad- any salad with beets is always a winner for me Main course: Green enchiladas - tangy, and the chicken was tender Red enchiladas - were customized to be vegetarian friendly (red sauce is vegetarian, and green sauce is not) Fried quesadilla - not sure if you can call it a quesadilla seemed like a tostada I wished they had a couple more items for vegetarians but still, Overall great experience.

Service, food, cocktails and music were excellent. We had dinner on a Friday evening and sat outdoors. A reservation was needed. Gabriel Garcia provided live guitar and vocal performance. Our food arrived extremely quickly. It was rich and delicious with the right amount of fresh relief. Our server was attentive but not hovering. Our water glasses were kept full. A lovely evening.

My wife and I don't get lots of great Mexican living on Maui. Went to Maestro early and got a table outside. Friendly and helpful staff. Great food and inventive cocktails. I had the lamb shank. Their Mole was great with the lamb!!. The resturant filled up early. A must for modern Mexican food
Be the first to ReplyReservation cancelled one day before
You pretty much have to reserve a month ahead, this place is so popular.
We made reservations for a birthday celebration dinner 30 days ahead for Dec. 28 .
At 4:15 pm the day before, we got a voice message that the restaurant decided to extend their holidays and were cancelling our reservation.
Birthday celebration cancelled. Confidence in this restaurant for a future reservation? Zero.
Simply outstanding
Ate here for the first time yesterday, and it will not be the last. Everything was great and somethings were simply extraordinary.
We were not expecting a lot for a sleepy Sunday evening. The restaurant itself is small and somewhat noisy. People having a good time tend to make noise.
We started with a couple of margaritas and both the house (MAESTRO) and spicy (PICOSITA) margs were excellent. You can substitute Tequila for Mezcal in the Picosita.
For appetizers we tried the Tetala and the Green Citrus Salad. The ingredients of the Tetala blended beautifully, but the real standout was the salad. The combination of the citrus with the kale, the sweetness of the beets and the creaminess of the cheese left us speechless.
For mains the pork chop was divine and the short rib was also extremely good. There is a lot of love, talent and ingenuity going into the food and it really shows on the plate..
Mexican flare
Came here to celebrate a bday dinner.
Small , dark restaurant on Union st in Pasadena.
We arrived shortly before happy hour closed so we hurried and ordered drinks.
Margaritas, shots of mezcal . Did not disappoint.
Appetizers- calamari was ok. It was more of a run then sauce and calamari tasted a little rubbery.
Tetela- blue corn masa, purรฉe beans and a really light drizzle of a sauce I couldnโt identify but it was really good.
Meals:
Lamb Shank- person said it was the best lamb she has had in Pasadena.
Red Enchiladas- good ( overpriced)
Green enchiladas- good (overpriced)
Fish - was on the dry side.
Desserts-
This cinnamon delicious pudding. I forgot what it was called but really good.
Tres Leche- awesome dessert with these strips of fried carrots that tasted like churros . Different and really tasty.
Overall, it was a fun experience our service was good.
I like this place but strongly feel itโs overpriced .
Itโs a good place for a special occasion.
EVER TRY MEXICAN FUSION?
Was expecting an exceptional meal, but received an average attempt. Happy hour was reasonable, finger was ok.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food, but overpriced
This restaurant offers well prepared unique Mexican dishes, including superb lamb shank, complex chicken mole and lightly fried fish. Nonetheless, the prices are too high for this style of cuisine. Also, on our visit, service was extremely slow and inattentive.

We love the menu , the service ,the friendly welcoming staff , the music they play, and the location.
The Ceviche is fresh and tangy with light heat
The Mol e ? The way itโs suppose to be.

Itโs great anytime
Unique Mexican restaurant
We were a large table of 6 diners and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The waitstaff is knowledgeable, patient with our questions as well as our indecision in making up our mind. The food was incredibly well prepared, the menu varied, and the tastebuds rewarded. There seemed to be many different chiles used in both the food and the cocktails. Not all blazing, hot, but abundant in unique flavors. I had the mescal cocktail, and it was wonderful, smokey, picante, and flavorful. Had to have two. Unique, traditional Mexican ingredients like Huitlacoche used in new and delicious ways. The guacamole appetizer is served with crispy, thinly fried plantains instead of the usual tortilla chips a great change out of the ordinary. Also the branzino was full of flavor, crispy, yet moist, exciting. The fried calamari was the best I ever had. NOT over cooked, lightly battered and full of tender flavor. The chef came to our table and answered questions, told us about the food, culture, and experience of Nayarit her home state in Mexico. We will definitely return.

We discovered this lovely restaurant a couple of months ago and have visited three times since then. The menu is somewhat limited which gives the chef the ability to perfect dishes. The ceviche is great, the tacos Tuesday are tasty. The calamari is different than the typical fry calamari, it is nicely spiced. The ambiance is really nice although noisy. Sitting outside gives you the ability to talk.

This is our new favorite restaurant in Pasadena, hands down. We've lived in Pasadena for decades, and always loved this community-- but until recently, Pasadena lagged behind other parts of LA (particularly the Westside) in terms of really outstanding places to dine. With the arrival of Maestro and a few other standouts, that has now ended.
Maestro is a high end, gourmet restaurant specializing in Mexican food. We have eaten there three times in the last couple of months, and every meal we had was outstanding. The scallop dish, served with a sort of risotto infused with Mexican corn fungus (Ie mushroom) is one of the best things I've eaten all year. It takes effort not to order it every time. The skirt steak is also incredibly tender and packed with flavor, as is the herbal rice that accompanies it. The mole is really good. The only dish i've eaten there that disappointed at all was the fish Veracruz-- but only because it wasn't unusual in some way-- it was tasty and well prepared.
The cocktails are to die for, in particular the various margaritas and anything with mezcal. Service is good. The room is simple, attractive and very noisy, in an old building with the usual exposed brick walls and high ceiling. The patio is a pleasant and quieter alternative.
Maestro (like every restaurant in Pasadena) somehow isn't getting a huge amount of buzz, but it should. Our dinners here have far exceeded recent meals in much more acclaimed restaurants in West LA and Santa Monica.
