Wonderful spot
Such a wonderful spot for dinner. The meal was delicious. The food was creative and well presented. The wines were amazing too.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing !
When we arrived, the valet told us that the parking lot was full and that he could not take our car: By insisting, he would eventually comply by parking the vehicle in front of the restaurant! But finishing his shift at 11 p.m., he does not guarantee we will be given the keys when we leave (sic!). We waited 10 minutes before getting our table even though many were set and free and we had reserved. We arrive in the dining room, whose decoration is suitable but whose good maintenance leaves something to be desired, dead insects were present in the globe of the chandelier clearly visible from our place... The comfort of the seat is horrible, 2 pieces of wood being felt well throughout the meal and for all the guests, skinny or not so skinny… Our choice is the tasting menu which it will be impossible for us to have being 9:15 p.m. and this one served until 9 p.m. (of course we waited at least 15 minutes between the valet and the table being made available! ). The dishes arrive, good but nothing more. Well presented but quite bland. The service is pleasant and the table staff very charming. The bill is correct compared to what was ordered, in this type of restaurant. The collection of our vehicle was as epic as its drop-off, we waited 15 minutes before getting our keys which were not labeled… This evening was not what we expected and we all remained disappointed with this experience.
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Brunch at Maison Boulud
We had a lovely birthday brunch for my hubby at this newly opened restaurant and are repeat customers . As always , the food was excellent and the service warm . Thanks to all the staff who made our dining experience special especially Ray who as usual was a ray of sunshine .

Nice place to dine at in Montreal. Very beautiful restaurant. Maison Boulud has delicious food and drinks. The meal was great from beginning to end.

Top quality food. Can’t go wrong at Daniel Boulud restaurants. The food was very delicious and the wine was amazing. Would recommend.
Be the first to ReplyService above and beyond!
My husband and I visited after a concert for coffee and dessert. We arrived a bit too late and decided to sit at the bar. BUT - our amazing waiter Danny said - let me see what I can do about dessert - and he looked after us so beautifully. He bought us a lovely plate with the plumpest, moistest madeleines sprinkled with powdered sugar I have had in a long while with my tea and my husband’s drink. Thank you for making our Valentine’s evening so special! We will be back for a proper dinner very soon.
Be the first to ReplyThis kitchen needs improvement.
At Maison Boulud it is unfortunate that such elegance and superior service is downgraded by truly awful food. The entire experience at Maison Boulud should be one of elevated dining but we were sorely disappointed by the cuisine. Let us add that we are repeat customers and each time we return we hope the kitchen has improved. Sadly, it has not. Yes, the service is welcoming and professional, the hors d’oeuvres (appetizers) are satisfactory, the oysters, in fact, very good, the cocktails and wine appealing, but the main dishes, where such a restaurant should shine, are a disaster. One dining companion tried the Black Cod. It was a gelatinous, highly salted mess. Inedible. The other dishes were equally disappointing, including the lamb which required a microscope to find the meat. When one pays upward of $500 for two for dining the expectations are high. Maison Boulud did not deliver which explains why it was half-empty on a Saturday night. The chef/business director Mr Boulud should step up and step into his namesake kitchen.
Be the first to ReplyWell worth a visit
I visited this restaurant to try the tastings menu cum wine pairing. With tips, at the time of writing, this translated into a roughly 450 CAD$ bill for one person. That's roughly in the ballpark of what you'd pay in Michelin 1* restaurants, so while not cheap, it's not extraordinarily expensive. Of the 7 or 8 courses that I had only one flopped, a very basic - near tasteless - pumpkin-based pasta dish. In all fairness, staff offered to replace it with something else, but I declined, because it wasn't badly executed, technically, there was nothing objectively wrong with it, except that it was, well, tasteless. All the other dishes were good, but not overly creative, all things considered. The bread selection was somewhat basic (three varieties), compared to other restaurants offering this kind of experience, but the bread itself was excellent. The wine pairings were mostly spot on (the cheap port at the end was a bit of a downer), but sadly portion sizes were somewhat uneven, they seemed to decline from about the middle of the menu toward the end (and no, I wasn't drunk). The sommelier was brilliantly knowledgeable and a delight to interact with, as is the case every other staff member in the restaurant who I interacted with. Their level of professionalism is extraordinary and definitely was a highlight of the visit. Just as an example, every staff member greeted me by my last name (I had booked on some on-line booking site, very much last minute, so it's not that I was a well-known hotel guest of some sort). That effort was very much appreciated. The restaurant itself, on a Friday night, wasn't jam packed, and it's also the case that they leave generous space between tables, so it never was too loud or felt too crammed. One can have legitimately different views about the interior. It's certainly not as classy as the hotel's champagne bar (they're located in the Ritz-Carlton Montreal). More like an upmarket version of a 1970s Marriott. Again, very subjective, but I thought, given the historic building they're in, more could have been made of the space. I wore a pair of corduroy pants and a sweater, which was sufficient to get let in, as it should be. There doesn't appear to be any overly arduous, stuffy dress code, thankfully. I think, all things considered, if you enjoy tastings menus, this restaurant is well worth a visit and it's correctly priced. It works both for a business dinner as well for a romantic night out.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing Birthday Dinner
Maison Boulud has long been known for its exquisite French cuisine and elegant atmosphere, and as a fan of fine dining, I was excited to celebrate my birthday there. I was extremely specific with my husband as to where I wanted to celebrate my dinner, and he managed to secure a reservation, which added to my anticipation. We had been to Maison Boulud many times before and had memorable experiences, therefore this was my choice for my birthday. The restaurant's ambiance was impeccable, with a warm and sophisticated atmosphere that set the stage for a memorable evening. The attentive service was certainly a highlight, and I appreciated the effort they put into making our celebration special. However, the highlight of any dining experience is undoubtedly the food, and this is where Maison Boulud fell short on my visit. I decided to try the seabass main course, which, unfortunately, turned out to be a major disappointment. The seabass dish had an overpowering fishy taste and aroma, which was quite off-putting. I had one mouthful and did not eat the rest of my meal. It lacked the delicate flavors and finesse that I had come to expect from a renowned establishment like Maison Boulud. The server was advised of the inferior quality of the meal. No Manager or Chef came to our table to enquire as to why my meal was returned. We paid the bill in full, even the meal I did not eat. Considering it was a special occasion, my expectations for the meal was quite high, and I must admit that I left the restaurant feeling disappointed by the subpar dish. It's disheartening when an otherwise well-regarded restaurant falls short on delivering a memorable culinary experience. Despite the disappointing seabass, I must commend Maison Boulud for its ambiance and service, which were truly exceptional. I hope that this feedback helps them improve the quality of their dishes to match the rest of the dining experience they offer.

Excellent food, very professional and warm service and elegant atmosphere The one thing missing is warm bread!
Be the first to ReplyDinner on Saturday night in Montreal
Beautiful garden setting at this restaurant, should have been an incredible meal and it was just average - we were so taken aback! Having eaten at Daniel Boulud's restaurants in NYC and Miami, we were expecting great things and the food was just very, very average. We were sad!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic Service and Experience
Dined with my wife. Fantastic food and staff. Met expectations in terms of drink list, food and service.
Be the first to ReplyExtra ordinary food!
We ate here for two breakfasts and one supper. The breakfasts were fantastic, probably the best Smoked Salmon and Eggs Benedict in the city. For supper, the sommelier (Stephanie) was fantastic.
Be the first to ReplyHigh Price - Low Performance
The list of shortcomings is sheer endless. Food: you end up hungry, Service: a shame, not worth spending money and time!
Be the first to ReplyA great place in a great hotel. Well worth your time
We dined at Maison Boulud on a Saturday evening. We asked the day before for a reservation, and they were full even then, so we reserved two seats at the bar. This was great. The bar staff is really wonderful. Very friendly, accommodating, and efficient. The selection at the bar is complete, not even including the giant wine list of the greatest wines. Our meal was outstanding, and well worth the price. This is a fine restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyLovely brunch!
Another wonderful brunch experience. The service was impeccable, as was the chicken and waffles. One complaint was from the folks who had the eggs Benedict— the Swiss chard was definitely not a hit.
Be the first to ReplyDelightful Dining Experience!
We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton and enjoyed our anniversary dinner at Maison Boulud. We were seated in the lovely and airy glass room overlooking the beautiful gardens and duck pond. The service provided by Katie and Sarah was top-notch. We started with some classic cocktails and shared the Burrata appetizer. Our main dishes consisted of the Halibut and the Sea Bass. Everything was exceptional!
Be the first to ReplyGo but not for the tasting menu..............
This was our 47th wedding anniversary. We told the waiter no raw shellfish or raw meat for my wife. Salmon course came after a 1/2 hour wait & waiter announced to my wife: we cooked your salmon more well done. How presumptuous to cook it more-it had nothing to do with her stating her dietary restrictions. He said he would get it to us quickly but we waited another 20 minutes. The pace of the meal was ruined, as well as the dinner. I did not want to make a scene & just nodded all OK - but please do not make us wait going forward. That fell on deaf ears. The meal was paltry. Decoration of colors was more important than giving a decent portion of a creative dish. Salad of poorly dressed arugula and a few nut particles with burrata was all leaves & cheese. A pasta filled with shrimp with lobster was very good. Foie gras mousse nicely done. Overcooked sockeye salmon. The of two forkfuls. I was told earlier there was a meat course so I ordered red wine. Guinea fowl came & I looked forward to the meat course only to be told 2 desserts were coming. The red wine ordered was a waste. Desserts: more like intermezzo- an icy thin slice followed by yet another icy sorbet concoction. Two icy desserts? No creative pastry or souffle? No meat? You would think for $179. you were getting Kobe beef creatively prepared. We consider ourselves foodies and have had a tasting menu all over the world, not to mention Per Se, The Inn at Little Washington , The French Laundry, Charlie Palmer's,etc.
Be the first to ReplyThere is Maison Boulud, and there is Daniel Boulud
The same Chef-Owner, different towns, restaurants and experiences, Having enjoyed Daniel's epicurean skills in New York, we were surprisingly unimpressed by Maison's. Unremarkable presentation and taste of the dishes served doesn't leave much "food" for culinary review. Nothing exactly tragic or disappointing, just about ordinary. Be advised that although officially Chef Tasting Menu is available until 9 p.m. we were denied and explained that the kitchen stops servicing 7 Course Tasting Menu after 7 p.m. because it is designed to be 3 hours long culinary experience. The fact that we were served the dessert endorsed for the wrong occasion is rather lapse of attention than lack of candles
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Breakfast
During my recent stay at The Ritz Carlton Montreal I had breakfast at Maison Boulud. It has both an indoor and outdoor part to it and I ate out on the terrace which overlooks a pond with ducks. I had the Farmers Breakfast which is eggs and bacon. It was very good and the toast was perhaps the best I have ever had. Service was very good and overall a great experience.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing each and every time!
Lovely clean and local food in an amazing setting! Simple and tasty with no overbearing ingredients or sauces. That is what authentic food is all about! I highly recommend the weekend brunch in the garden. It is less costly and the view is just magical. Top notch cuisine and service. I have been over 10 times and this place never disappoints. Gluten free options as well for one of our friends. Vegetarian options also. Not sure I understand the bad reviews. Foodies like me will definitely enjoy, no doubt!
Be the first to ReplyTragically Disappointing
I dined at your restaurant with a friend of mine for the first time on Saturday evening, the 28th of May at 6:15 PM. I made my reservation one month ahead of time, and left a note in the reservation that my dining partner has a dairy allergy. In addition, I called the restaurant directly two days before dining, asking if this dairy restriction could be accommodated for the Chef's Tasting Menu, which we were excited to try. The person who took my call answered that yes, it would be no problem, and that your restaurant accommodates dietary needs like that all the time. We arrived for our reservation, and were seated. We expressed our desire to order the tasting menu, and reiterated for the third time that we needed to accommodate my guest's dietary restriction. After some delay, our server returned to the table and relayed that it would not be a good experience, and that too many dishes would need to be compromised to accommodate this allergy. That was very disappointing, especially after feeling like I communicated properly and with ample notice what we needed accommodated to. On the back foot, we scoured the menu, trying to figure out what we would order for my guest. Our server made some recommendations for a salad, entree, and dessert to eat in tandem with my personal tasting menu. When our server recommended a modified version of the fish entree for my dairy-free friend, he asked if she would like some nice caviar on the fish. Perhaps I misread the situation, as his tone/intent seemed to suggest he was offering the caviar as an apology for all the confusion, and the disappointment of not being able to order the tasting menu. This was not the case, as I learned later examining the bill. After discussing these dairy needs multiple times, bread and butter were brought to our table. I assumed olive oil, or some combination of vinegar and oil would have been brought to the table after these conversations. I asked our server to bring some oil by to eat the bread with. Over ten minutes passed, so I had to flag down another waiter to bring us some oil and new bread, since the original basket went cold while waiting. I also asked my server about a chartreuse on the menu, simply whether it was green or yellow. He said he would ask the sommelier and get back to me. He did not, so I again had to ask another server the question. She sent the sommelier over who promptly answered my question. There seems to be a theme of needing to ask for things twice. When my first course of the tasting menu arrived, both myself and my dinner guest were given the first course of the tasting menu, when we already decided she would not be eating this menu. This was confusing, but not a problem. My guest's salad arrived, and - again - after discussing the dairy needs so many times, the salad arrived with cheese on it. We told our server and had it replaced. Throughout the course of dinner, our server accidentally slammed into the back of my dinner guest's chair, and the wrong food was delivered to our table at one point. After breathing on the food, we stated that it was at the wrong table. We watched the food-runner take a lap with both plates of food, go inside, come back out, and set the same dishes on the table next to us. The hygiene in that decision is questionable. At the end of dinner, I went to the restroom. My dining partner asked for the check. She had her wallet out, waiting to pay for the check, and the server placed the checkbook in my empty seat while I was in my bathroom. It's 2022. To assume the male will pay for the meal is such an antiquated notion. A restaurant of your caliber, with what you charge for food, and how seriously you seem to take your location, food, and service, should not have a laundry list of hiccups in service like this. To put it lightly, dinner was a disappointment from start to finish. I had high expectations for Maison Boulud, and I hope you agree that I should have had high expectations to begin with. All of these mistakes are easily correctable. I did have a few qualms with the tasting menu itself, but the intention of this email was to outline the poor experience we had as a whole. I cook by profession, and we accommodate vegans on-the-fly all the time, with no prior notice. It's 2022. To not be able to accommodate such a simple dietary restriction on a 7-course menu for ~$170 per head with ample notice and multiple forms of communication seems unprofessional and inept in itself. The assumed value dining at your restaurant falls far below the mark. I tried contacting management multiple times about my issues via email and phone call, but no responses. Hilariously inept customer service. The food was mediocre. I guess you can just brunois a vegetable and call it fine dining.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing Food in a fancy hotel/restaurant
We have been here a couple of times (supper mainly) and always liked it but our recent brunch experience (1st time post covid era) was very disappointing. To be clear the place is lovely and the staff are great as always but the dishes were way below our expectations. We had "Brouillade with Truffle" which was literally COLD when served and "Meurette" which turned out to be VERY sweet because of the wrong balance of caramelized onion in the dish. For a brunch experience in a 5 star hotel like Ritz when you end up paying 300$ for two people, you expect the dishes to be somehow special which was not the case; Or an expectation to at least taste as good as (if not more) as other restaurants at walk-in distance 5-star hotels that we paid less for more.
Be the first to ReplyA haven of exquisite culinary delights and caring service
I love to highlight exceptional chefs, tables and service teams who show respect and engage with generous creativity and delight to offer a delicious array of their best vegan menu options. This restaurant team truly engaged, led by their inspired chefs and wonderfully attentive service team.
Hats off to this team, who brought their professional savvy and care to this unique family event, and who made everyone's plate special. Our whole group enjoyed their experience tremendously.
There was a delicious, composed, velvety soup full of happy surprises and a crispy and aromatic starter, including local produce. The main dish of spinach and mushroom pasta was delectable. I savoured every bite.
I didn't expect to have a multi-course menu, but this culinary team pulls out all the stops and goes all the way, with soup, main dish, entre-met, salad and dessert. Each dish was full of delicious and subtle surprises, including a sorbet made from a locally grown, indigenous berry. I was amazed and delighted when a hazel nut cream and chocolate mousse dessert completed the vegan meal.
I can say, with vast experience, that such a commitment to culinary pleasure for all at the table, including for vegans, and such a level of caring service is rare and truly appreciated. I don't remember such an haute cuisine, well rounded and attentive menu and table since Le Margaux, on Parc or Club Chasse et Pêche, in Montreal.
Put this one on your list. It's exceptional.
Not gluten free/allergen safe. Epic otherwise.
If your not gluten free, this is a five star restaurant and the food quality is top notch, managers/service maybe not so much.
Informed them before our reservation I was gluten free and had allergies they said no problem can accommodate. Fast forward to the end, our desert a different waitress brought it out and said "The certified gluten free, celiac safe desert dish." I said right here. Now these items don't reflect what the menu wording is because of how artistic the chef is so we'd assume it was what I was being delivered. However upon closer inspection my wife told me to wait because she didn't think it's what I ordered, so we waited 5 minutes before our waitress finally came around again to ask and she apologized.
Look I'm not saying this place is bad, but as a server/manager you think you would at least comp/remove the desert from our bill. Had I eaten it and ended up using an epi-pen or in the hospital it would have been a different story. I even let the hotel manager knowing by emailing him after and he told me he would forward it to the right department before I decided to leave a review. I never got an email or phone call back from the Ritz Carlton or Maison Bould. I'm ashamed of spending over $400/night + $300 for dinner and got ghosted by such a "fine establishment". If you have allergies, just be careful, next time it should be our own waitress delivering the dish. Legal advice, don't say "certified gluten free, celiac safe dish" then deliver gluten.
