Charmingly rustic roadside CA1
Was looking for a quick dinner on our way back to LA from Point Dume and found this charming roadside fish restaurant. Great views over the pacific and the food was very reasonably priced vs quality compared to most others in the area. The fried fish was fresh and tasty accompanied by some rustic fries.

The food and the view were excellent. You go into the market and order your food and then go find a table at the outdoor picnic area. You can sit in covered or open seating. Then go grab your food at the window when your buzzer goes off and enjoy the view while eating delicious seafood. If you are going for lunch, I suggest going early as the line will start to wrap around the building. Totally worth the wait though and the ordering process is fast and the food comes out fast.

We stopped at 11.30 on the way to the beach and had a great meal. The fish and chips compares well to the original British dish and even has the same cut of potato chips with salt and vinegar. We also had fish tacos that were fabulous. The seating area was large and no trouble getting seated. We were able to drink our water from our flasks

I was starving after exploring El Matador Beach, and decided to stop for a bite! I was pleasantly surprised! I got the large grilled shrimp with red skin potato salad and cole slaw. Both sides were creamy and delicious, but the shrimp was fabulous! They were grilled with garlic and butter and were so tender! Yum!!

Over rated… I was going off the reviews and everyone was saying it was really good. Came with my wife on a getaway and the food was so unseasoned. They have some fish on display but I don’t think they use it lol… Tacos are ok.. the shrimp and crab cocktail was a joke… I was expecting seafood in Clamato Juice and some real shrimp. What I got was a side cup a noodle size shrimp and shredded crab in a small container with a small lemon wedge and a small out of a can cocktail sauce. I also ordered the grilled snapper… it was a joke. Do not expect San Perdro fish market quality. I saw others order the fish and chips and it did look good but can’t say for the flavor. The best part of this place is the Tapatio on the table! I did try the paradise cove restaurant the day b4 and that was way better food. Just stick to the seafood don’t get the ribs.. 🤣

This is a nice place to visit by the ocean for good food and scenery. Parking on the side of the road is a little challenging but plenty of seating.

We are lucky to have stopped here. What a unique small fish house. You place your order inside and they give you a buzzer. There are picnic tables outside and we were lucky enough to have the sun come out while we there. This March has been pretty cold and windy, not mention rainy. But the sun came out and we were able to eat our whole lunch overlooking the water with the sun shining down. You get a choice between grilled, steamed or fried. I had the grilled snapper and it was delectable. Coleslaw was very good too.

The Malibu Seafood Shack is it delicious treat for any meal. The fish is all fresh and served quickly after your order at the counter. The outside tables are picnic tables. You can hear the roaring ocean across the street. Great place to have a meal.

We ordered the seafood combo and chips, which included a piece of battered fish, crumbed prawns and calamari. It was a generous serve, however it was too greasy. I discarded the batter coating and just ate the fish which was tender. The prawns and calamari were tender but ruined by a heavy, greasy crumbed coating. Also, there was no lemon served with the seafood.

We stopped for lunch and had the fish and chips. Large pieces of deep fried fish are delicious. It comes with fries, which are very good. I had a green lettuce salad with my fish. I had Italian dressing. The salad was substantial. I would definitely eat here again. I am glad we stopped on. Weekday for lunch, as it gets crazy, busy on weekends and after work. Clean restrooms in the separate building behind the blue shack.
Be the first to ReplyAmid all the Nobu and expensive ocean restaurants in Malibu , this one shines and has the real atmosphere of the coast
The combos are great; the sides are cool, bring your own drinks is okay ; face the ocen in your table; go for hike afterward of before if you can; walk on the beach; say thanks to the folks inside who are super nice; buy some to go seaweed or fish; its the best, no place like it, historical landmark; no wonder the fire department saved it during the big fire
Be the first to ReplyGreat fish and chips
Living here in southern California along side the coast for most of my life, I've have my share of fish restaurants. With most places, You get caught up in the atmosphere and great weather only to be disappointed by mediocre food. Malibu Seafood is the exception. The food we order great. Better than most of the places I've been to. The fish and chips had a great ratio of fish to batter. Big chunks of fish with just enough batter to coat. The fries were crispy and flavored well. The fish tacos were a good size and were not drowned in sauce. The steamed mussels were great. The clam chowder was awesome. I really enjoyed the bread bowl because it wasn't an oversized bread bowl with a small serving of chowder. It was the perfect combo. The grilled mahi mahi was a tad on the dry side. I did kinda expect this because this place is very crowded and with them serving so many people, the attention to grilling a perfect flaky fish would be tough to do. With that said, it was good, just not outstanding. Over all, this was a great place. Parking limited. I suggest as you enter the parking lot, look immediately to your left. There were a few parking stalls that people over looked because most concentrated on the larger parking on the right side. If you don't mind, have one of the persons in your party stand in line while you park and standby in the larger parking lot and wait if a spot to open. People are coming and going all the time so a spot open, just be at the ready.

I went to this restaurant to try a good meal. the cashier, Ivan was unprofessional and rude. This review is true and honest. There is no false accusations. Aside from the unprofessional, distraught cashier. The food was good. Though, when I was there it was loud and obnoxious. I've been frequenting Malibu for 30 years. Today, this was some weirdo, loud, obscene behavior, that needs to keep distance.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect stop after your Beach Day!!!
After a great day at the beach and you want some local, oceanside seafood, you have two options: Neptune's Net & Malibu Seafood. Both can be a bit crazy on weekends, so despite the temptation, we haven't visited either for years... until this summer. We first revisited Neptune's Net and you can read my review on them... I'm not going back. I was afraid my experience with Malibu Seafood would be similar... but I was pleasantly surprised!!! TOTALLY different!!! Look - you're going to pay a lot at both of these places. You can't avoid that... but it's WHAT you're getting that is the difference! The food we got at Malibu Seafood was EXACTLY what the doctor ordered! You got a lot of bang for your buck with appropriate portions and quantity. You can't beat the view! It's really amazing. The experience would be different if you couldn't find a table, but on a Wednesday, we had NO trouble. The parking lot was full, but you can park easily on the side of PCH. The line was short and the service was GREAT! I wish I got her name, but she was just very friendly. The wait was short, and the food was wonderful! We got fish and chips, a shrimp platter, steamed clams, and New England Clam Chowder in a bread bowl and they were all fantastic! THIS is what the nostalgic New Englander in me was seeking (though head up fellow east-coaster... no one here has real "steamers"... it's a different thing on this coast). After your next beach day, if it doesn't look mobbed... THIS is the place to go!!!

Some of the best seafood in Malibu. The prices are also reasonable. We love the fish and chips but all the food is delicious.
