Oustanding Dining Experience in Boston
We ate here in March 2024 for my wife's birthday and it was a superb experience. The service was attentive without being overbearing and the food was execptional and the chef did not scrimp on portions. I would recommend anyone visiting Boston to pay a visit.

Food was amazing. Highly recommend!!! Service was super fast - it felt like our food was out very quickly after ordering. We were a party of 9 - and everyone loved their meal. Perfect size too. I got the eggplant parm and loved it. Cesar salad looked amazing too.

Amazing!! Food was a 10, service was a 10++. We hope to have many excuses to come back. Our waitress Emmer (sorry if miss spelling) worked here for 8+ years.. fun, professional, totally excelled our expectations. We will remember this forever!!

Osso Bucco was a house specialty! It was an enormous portion and the meat fell off the bone! I ordered Lobster Agnilotti another Excellent meal! The food was so Amazing!! It just doesn’t matter what you order it will be good here!! All fresh ingredients & homemade pastas. The pesto sauce for the bread is out of this world! Finally cannoli in a tea cup was the perfect end to our meal!! Excellent I really can’t say enough about this restaurant!

Outstanding! New menu every day. Freshed pesto I've ever tasted. Impeccable service. Would recommend to anyone visiting in the Boston area. Great for couples, special occasions, business dinners.

I had first been to Mamma Maria a few years ago for a wedding rehearsal dinner and remembered that it was very good. I was determined to go again and got a reservation with family for the week of Thanksgiving. The meal was outstanding. I had the pasta con sugo which I think is the best pasta I've ever had. The appetizers and desserts were also enjoyable. The restaurant is packed with tables and gets very loud. That is the only downside of the eating here.

This is our favorite restaurant in Boston, and after another visit last night, they again did not disappoint. We were given a lovely corner table and although the place was very busy it felt warm, cozy and comfortable. Noise level was fine. As usual, the service was spot on and the food as good as ever! I had told them it was my birthday and they brought out delicious dessert complete with a candle! Mamma Maria, you really made my birthday dinner a delight and very memorable. We will definitely be back next time we are in Boston.

Great time dining at Mamma Maria. Loved the ambience, felt like a truly neighborhood restaurant and the food was amazing. When they told me some recipes hadn’t changed in 30 years, I was amazed but now I see why! Definitely will visit if I return to Boston.

I would have rated this place 3 or 4 stars overall, except for the incident with our waiter. Food is fine, some of the appetizers were very good and the atmosphere was great. Staff, in general is not friendly but not rude either. We got there on time for our reservation and were told our table is not ready and were asked to leave the restaurant and wait outside or go to another place across the street, I find this weird. When I got my dinner it was the wrong dish. I told the waiter that and he repeated three times, after I told him that I did not order this dish, “this is the one your ordered”. I finally asked him to stop arguing with me because “I know what I ordered” and that’s when he offered to bring me my other dish (which I declined since the party in our table all got their orders). He could have simply said: sorry I did not hear you well (place is loud), or there was a mix up, or any number of responses, instead he kept insisting that’s the dish that I ordered. Mistakes happen, I understand that, but the way he handled it was very irritating.

A nice and cozy Italian restaurant with helpful staff. The coffee from a pod machine was unexpected and not that very Italian but otherwise ok.

Two of us truly enjoyed a delicious meal and excellent service at Mamma Maria. The lobster Agnolotti (3 large ravioli-like portions) and the Mushroom Pasta were absolutely delicious! They had a nice selection of wines to pair with our meal. Excellent food and service!

If you are looking for a special dinner out in the North End you can’t beat Mamma Maria. It has it all. Ambiance, excellent food and drink, and outstanding service and hospitality. As someone that’s been to almost all of the restaurants in the North End and has a food tour of the neighborhood that I hav e been running for 10 years, I can say that it’s really the best on all accounts, including best space and location in beautiful North Square.

We went a Group of 11 People and had our own private Room. The food and Wine was excellent and the service outstanding.

My husband and I and our grandson just dined in this lovely restaurant tonight. We had an early reservation (5pm) and we’re a few minutes early. We were seated at perfect table for three with a beautiful window view. Erick was our waiter and the service was prompt and impeccable. He even heard us toasting to our grandson’s birthday and surprised us with a birthday dessert for him. The meals of lobster pasta and mushroom ravioli were superb. A delightful evening!

Amazing food, excellent service and ambience. If I did not live in California I would become a regular here.

Everything about this place was spectacular. I decided to order items I don't normally order out and that proved to be the right decision. My wife ordered the Baked Oysters Florentine which she loved and then Bay Scallops and clams over pasta. I had an unbelievably tasty Duck with Risotto and Grilled Venison for dinner (it was the first time I have ever ordered it in any restaurant and I'm glad I did. Thank you for such an enjoyable evening.

Absolutely Wonderful - ambiance, service, food and beverages. Awesome experience. Osso bucco was exceptionally good as was my lobster ravioli. Delicious summer salad with various types of very fresh lettuce with delicate dressing. Awesome!

We are so glad we chose this restaurant for our 50th. Great service and delicious food.we had the rabbit pasta and the osso bucco.but more than the food,it was fun.i must admit I thought the tables were too close , but then we got to talk to our neighbors and we exchanged stories and laughs. It was a party.

Service was great food not so much. The bread was hard and unable to chewable. The portions are small which be be fine but honestly unremarkable.

Located off the main street MM is in a quieter location making it a more intimate dining spot. Service is still very good, not pushy and with enough attention. Had the veal osso bucco (again) and it was as good as I remember. I've never had it better anywhere else. MM is not inexpensive as everything is ala carte' but you do get a romantic meal in a well decorated house. The outdoor seating is much more relaxing that eating outdoors on Hanover St. Great place for a special dinne while visiting Boston.

It's Mama Maria, so you know the food is going to be amazing. And it was. I had the Rabbit pasta entrée and it was SO tender. Everyone else's meals were great as well. Also, I did not know that Mama Maria had valet parking, so make sure to remember that when going. We parked a few blocks away, because we didn't know about the valet. Here's where I need to do my "But." Our service was not the greatest. Don't get me wrong. SHE was very pleasant. It's just that it took us 15+ minutes to even be acknowledged after we were seated. Then another 15 minutes for cocktails to come out. Keeping track, we're there for 30 minutes and have only now just received our cocktails. We have not ordered yet. Our appetizers come out 20 minutes later and they were great. But again, we've now been there for almost an hour and are now just getting appetizers. The entrees come out another 30 minutes later. And I don't mind, because I hate being rushed. We enjoy our meal and order coffee and dessert. At this point, we were seated at 6:30 and it is now 9:30. As soon as I put my coffee and dessert spoon down, a man comes over and asks how dinner was. We of course, responded "great." But for all intents and purposes, he stated that there are people waiting for the table and it's time to wrap it up. My irritation here is that it was not our fault we were sitting there for so long. Our server was standing over by the restaurant, hanging out sometimes. And I'm not indicating that she's not entitled to taking a breather. But when we're there for 3 hours because of slow service and you now want to throw us out after the $$s we just spent? Poor. That's really the takeaway here. You're now on a timer at Mama Maria.
Be the first to ReplyNorth End Gem - Top notch Italian food in a great ambiance
We sat outside in the square and the ambience was fantastic, really good wine selection from all over Italy. We had Romaine salad ( Ceasar ) and some of the pasta and what set it apart was the freshness, both the rabbit ragu or bolognese are good choices. Rhubarb dessert was a great surpise to end it in style.

Be the first to ReplyBuono! Mamma Maria has it All: Elegant Ambiance and Exceptional Signature Offerings
Stephaine, the friendly hostess, greeted us outdoors in the patio courtyard; we did change our reservation to an earlier time with no problems. We were seated upstairs at a corner table in the middle of two windows. The views were the courtyard and a side street. The room itself is beautiful with paintings and upgraded decorating. This place knows elegant dining with white linen table cloths and gorgeous Royal Dalton China yellow plates! Our attentive waiter, Fabrico, explained the menu and noted the specialties. The menu is full of northern Italian specialties that change daily; their signature dishes are a constant. The bread service is fabulous as well, with olive oil, hand-grated parmesan cheese, and mixed olives. We ordered the warm crab salad as an appetizer; the presentation was beautiful, with grilled asparagus, frisée, and a poached egg. Large enough to share! We ordered the Lobster Agnolotti Pasta for the main courses, which consisted of Maine lobster, asparagus, wild mushrooms, and crumbled guanciale (a cured meat similar to prosciutto). Absolutely heavenly, the tri-colored pasta was cooked a tad bit softer than al dente, with wonderful bursting flavors and a light sauce pairing. I've never eaten such an unusual lobster pasta dish, and it was "one of a kind" and outstanding! The Osso Buco with veal and risotto was also a hit! The best my husband has ever tasted, with the presentation a stand-out, (see photo). Over all, we didn't feel rushed, we were made to feel relaxed, and pampered. The dinner experience was incredible. I spoke with the manager Nico, who has been with Mamma Maria for 13 years, he gave me a bit of the history. "It was one of Boston's first mansion homes," said Nico. The website also has a bit of history:One of the most memorable features of Mamma Maria is the wonderful striking view of downtown Boston. Our restaurant sits on a small hill overlooking the city. Floor-to-ceiling windows reveal a dramatic panorama contrasting the Boston skyline with cobblestones of North Square—the oldest public square in America—and home to many pivotal figures in American history: Cotton Mather in the 17th century, Paul Revere in the 18th century, Charles Dickens and Honey Fitz in the 19th century and Rose Kennedy in the 20th century. Located in Boston's North End, we lucked out as their are many choices for authentic Italian dining, I look forward to returning to Mama Maria as we both had a fabulous experience.
