MaMou New Orleans Reviews from The Last Year
My husband and I met another couple here for dinner and it
My husband and I met another couple here for dinner and it was a solid meal with great service. Get: bread service, garlic almond soup, Gulf fish a La Royale. I'm a garlic lover and the soup is fantastic. Not sure where they hid the almond, but the egg is so preciously dressed in a Carolina ham skirt, and the yolk spreads scrumptiously into the soup. My table mate said he'd take a bath in it, and I agree. Gulf fish was perfectly seasoned and prepared; it was the only empty plate of the night besides the bread and garlic almond soup. Hit-or-miss: crawfish and shrimp salad "tart" is funny that they put the "tart" in quotations but maybe that's because the dish is served cold and tart implies cooked. The texture of amalgamated cold seafood was not for me. By my best guess, since I didn't ask, and didn't see them on the plate, the shrimp and quail was also an amalgamate in the risotto. Again, not a texture I was expecting, but if you're up for seafood sausage, might be for you. The baba au rhum dessert dish was prepared tableside but we found it too heavy a pour on the syrup and missed the pistachios in the cream as well. Overall good, and I'll be back for the garlic soup for sure.
Food was unique and excellent, lick your plate sauces.
Service was quick. Music a little loud but overall pretty ambiance.

One of our fav restaurants in Nola we can't wait to come back the food was perfect Service was incredible such a cute space
Amazing meal.
. I had high expectations based on what I heard and read but tried to keep it to low. Blew my mind... phenomenal food and service. Service was phenomenal. We sat at the bar since it was packed for Jazzfest. I ordered small plates since it was my first time and I ewanted to get full flavors and experience. Loved it all: cassoulet, celeriac remoulade. Delightful married young lady next to me had the garlic almond soup and loved it... I did share in some of her fries which were delightful. My traveling buddy had the Poisson a la Florentine which was delicious (I nibbled lol). Wine selection is impressive. Spoke to Lilly the owner (from Iowa!!) and the bartender who was incredible and put on a show at the bar. So good. This is a gem, a little off the beaten path and away from downtown but definitely a must-go in New Orleans which has a well deserved reputation for incredible food.

Cute little place, good service, and the food was mostly good. Their flagship fish dish tasted overly salty so I didn't enjoy thT, but the risotto was rich and flavorful. It a very French manner, it seemed that the bird is (at least) partially hollowed out and restuffed with a sausage mix of onecN only assume is the main protein ingredients on the menu. Interesting flavor and definitely something you don't get to eat every day.

Stepping into this French restaurant in New Orleans, you're immediately enveloped by an ambiance that's both elegant and inviting. Perfect for a special occasion or fancier date night. Service is impeccable, attentive without being intrusive. As for the cuisine, the poisson à la florentine is a must have --delicately cooked fish in a rich, creamy spinach sauce that's simply divine. This place is a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in the finer side of New Orleans' culinary scene.
Absolutely amazing !!! Must try, and will be back.
Besides the food being absolutely chefs kiss, the Service is A1!!! Thank you Mamou!!! The ambiance is lovely for a date or girls night out, birthday ... you name it!!!

Solo traveller - Staying at hotel a few doors down and walked to Mamou because it was close and didn't want to stray to far from hotel about 7:30pm and getting dark soon. Checked with person at the door and said I had no reservation, thought they were still gonna seat me as a solo diner until I mentioned I'd love to have a fancy coffee and dessert rather than a meal - that seemed to change the whole vibe and then I was told they couldn't accommodate me as they were possibly expecting a big rush of people any time now (i realize a free event was ending across the street at Louis Armstrong Park because I also just came from that event). So I was told no there was no room for me. I left feeling like I was turned away because I wasn't going to order a big expensive meal (only an expensive fancy coffee and dessert).
Great and highly recommended
This was not my first time dining here. The experience is always second to none. The staff is friendly and accommodating eager to please. I never feel rushed. I missed chef Tom who is exceptional, but food was great. The door greeter is sweet her smile is so welcoming. Liz our waitress was very good and sweet as she trained a new employee. Love love love this restaurant.
Have come here a few times it's my go to when I'm in NOLA.
An incredible front of house team with amazing service. The chef and his team are making a fantastic blend of French and New Orleans inspired dishes with a lovely setting. Highly recommend this restaurant it's the best in town!!
Ate here last night and service was top-notch.
Food was tasty and atmosphere was so cute and quaint. Great dining experience overall!
food, service and ambience were all above and beyond!
food, service and ambience were all above and beyond! Brian (server) was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Lily (Somm) was a delight to speak with. They offer a "caviar bump" which is literally served onto the back of your hand with a rare 2013 Piper Heidsick for what I'd consider a phenomenal price. The flounder florentine was divine. As were the madeleines. We even received complementary sparkling rosé for celebrating our anniversary! Every detail was perfect, and I couldn't ask for more from a dining experience.
Impressive food, angry waitstaff
Mamou was our destination restaurant for a business meal in New Orleans. Although my colleague and I were impressed by the food, particularly the exquisite Celeriac Remoulade and those perfect frites, the intentionally rude, abrupt, and borderline hostile attitude of the server completely tarnished what should have been an excellent meal. She told us we could not have an appetizer that was on the menu, informed us that beef had to be ordered an hour in advance, corrected our pronunciation of a Hungarian wine, often rolled her eyes, informed us that "we had better not be splitting the check," and generally went out of her way to ruin our meal. I complained to the manager and was offered a comp, but we were already on our way out of town. The Baba au Rhum was also cold and bitter tasting from the alcohol which had not burned off.
It is obvious from the start the Staff Loves their Jobs.
Plus as a rarity nowadays they are also very experienced and competent at their jobs too! The Sommelier for example is extremely experienced and friendly. Her experience goes back to Chicago's Trotter days. The Food is absolutely incredible! I am no newcomer on the Foodie circuits, & also go back to the glory days of Chicago Fine dining in the 80's & 90's. Having said that, the Gulf Fish special at Mamou was one of the Best dishes I've ever had! Seriously Amazing! Flounder was also excellent. The Caviar service was the Best I've had since the turn of the century. Really that good. Wine list & cocktail's done with obvious passion! Space is small, comfortable and lively. Gives the feel of a French restaurant in Paris. Can't say enough good things about this place! By far the Best Dinner we had in NOLA. Even beat our dinner at Commanders Palace. Keep the Passion People! Your doing a Fantastic Job!!!
Went to Mamou after reading about it in The NY Times and it
Went to Mamou after reading about it in The NY Times and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere was wonderful, the service attentive, and the food memorable. We shared several appetizers which were all delicious and the fish entree which I highly recommend. Can't wait to come again on my next visit to New Orleans!
Absolutely adorable spot, and service was really good.
Our server took great care of us and in no way reflects the negativity of this review. The food is just absolutely not worth the price. For shared salad and bread, and a middle of the road champagne+caviar bump for two was already $200. The steak at market price being over $200 and taking over an hour to come out was absolutely ridiculous, not an experience I would recommend to anyone ever. We love to spend for an experience, and especially food... but I have never felt so taken for a ride by a restaurant in my life. That steak was maybe worth half of what they charged. Maybe. IF they had delivered in a reasonable timeframe. I will not be back.
I had their amazing signature starter (celeriac remoulade),
I had their amazing signature starter (celeriac remoulade), very tasty bread service, and a cocktail I'm still thinking about. I had their signature entree, the pouisson, which I found less sophisticated than the other three items and a bit rich and one note almost bordering on wedding food. But the rest of it was so delicious, and the atmosphere and service so fantastic, that I can't wait to come back.
Great Anniversary Dinner!
One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Impeccable service with amazing food and wine. Could not have been any better
Less Than Great
Because The NY Times rated this fairly new restaurant highly, we were excited to give it a try. While nothing we ate was less than average quality, nothing created the kind of 'wow' that would have us coming back. The ambience was nice, but average; the pricing was higher than average.
Totally overrated
Totally overrated Over priced Food average Over abundance of staff looking for something to do Wine over priced and very small proportions served Wouldn’t recommend
