Marisol is located inside the Museum of Contemporary Art.
I had been to the outdoor jazz a few Tuesday nights in the summer and enjoy the vibe around the MCA, so I was excited to try it. I was with a few friends, and we were seated by the colorful murals which was enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and gave good recommendations, but it was SUPER busy the Saturday we went. I think they forgot to put in the order because we kept getting told "a few more minutes" until almost an hour and a half had passed. We also ordered 2 appetizers but they never came so we just canceled the order. When the main course ultimately arrived, the staff apologized for the delay. I was relieved that the food was delicious. I ordered buttermilk pancakes, which had an incredibly fluffy texture and flavorful cinnamon butter on top--some of the best I've had in the city. I tried the breakfast plate as well which was okay overall but a tad overpriced for what you get. The potatoes were crispy and flavorful. I would've given this place a 4.5 for the food, ambiance, and staff but unfortunately the huge delay was a nuisance.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently disappointing, seemingly by design.
My most recent experience was yesterday. After looking around the MCA galleries I went down hoping to have lunch at about 11:30. After waiting a bit for someone to approach and seat me, I was asked if I had a reservation. I said no and asked if I needed one gesturing to a plethora of empty tables....the restaurant was maybe 30% full, not counting the large side room which looked to be closed. The hostess clearly did not appreciate my questions and told me that they only had one server and it would be a 15-minute wait. I declined and stepped away. A couple approached after me and were promptly seated. I guess they had a coveted reservation. I took my business elsewhere and will continue to do so.

Excellent lentil soup (very creative) filling and tasty; Perfectly cooked cod with a flavorful sauce and shaved fennel on top. Chocolate dessert with a crema base very good. Table service was very excellent and pleasant. They got busy around 12:15. Make a reservation.
Be the first to ReplyMarisol is one of my favorite restaurants in the Gold Coast
Marisol is one of my favorite restaurants in the Gold Coast with its fresh ingredients and unique menu. This was my second time coming to Marisol and I tried the brunch restaurant week menu. I chose the bagel and lox and the french toast. The bagel and lox was delicious and the bagel tasted homemade. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the french toast because it was a bit soggy from the sauce. I did try the short rib hash because me and my friend shared and that was amazing. I think overall it was a great experience but maybe pass on the french toast.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is criminally underrated.
I came to experience its brunch menu for restaurant week and was blown away. The food was spectacular for an amazing price. The cod with its mild flavor soaked all the richness and savory deliciousness of the braised butter bean. Each bite was delightful with a hint of fennel and the tartness of the green apple mojo was tantalizing and compelled me to savor every moment. Honestly this might be the first time that I could genuinely feel the food dancing on my tastebuds. I'd love to come back here and try their full menu, and the fact that it's tucked inside the MCA makes it a perfect date on Tuesdays.

Located in same building as Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. We were served by the wonderful Matty. He was amazing, attentive and helpful. Answer our zillion questions with patience and kindness. Crispy fried chicken sandwich with calamansi aioli. MCA burger is cheesy havarti on challah bread with their secret sauce. Steam Mussels is fresh in tomato and pancetta. Delivered fresh daily.

Really interesting brunch options like polenta and this avocado latke. I was between the latke and the breakfast sandwich the waiter said the latke was his favorite so I went with it. It was delicious and unique! It looks small but was filling. However, pairing it with the beignets for the table was a good call. Just a little pricey ($18). Would come back again! Love the aesthetic of the place too.

Incredible customer service to accompany the elegant interior and tasty brunch. Ian made our experience great with their welcoming energy, knowledge on the menu, and provided helpful recommendations. Pastries were amazing with a warm latte and great ambiance overall.
Be the first to ReplyPrivate room is a great place for a group dinner.
Staff is amazing and the food worthy of the art museum setting. I think the first course- with sunflower hummus and incredible crackers may have been my fave. Roasted carrots, no longer on the regular menu, were also amazing. Soughdough pasta was freshly made, perfectly cooked, served with yummy hen of the wood mushrooms which seem to be showing up on menus more often lately. Marisol salad and branzino were just ok. But the kitchen came back strong with an incredible chocolate-passionfruit tart topped with crunchy crumbles and a honeycomb cookie- wow, just wow.

Visiting for the weekend and came upon this restaurant inside the Contemporary Art Museum building. Was seated right away and our server Ian was amazing. I had a fabulous plate of pancakes with cinnamon butter, the turmeric pastry of the day and I was treated to a birthday ice cream surprise! Made my birthday even more special!

We stopped by for lunch and had the salmon tartine and the beet panzanella. Presentation and flavors were great, and service was attentive.

This is like a neighborhood restaurant but it's almost hidden in the Museum of Contemporary Art. It's a Mediterranean small plate's menu that is fun to explore and share. The 4 of us started with something as simple as olives. They were in a celery salsa verde and delicious. The sunflower humus is a favorite with the flax seed crackers. The pomme frits with the feta creme fraiche and dill keep us reaching for more. We tried the celery root gnudi and it was a pleasant surprise. Kind of like pasta balls in an apple, cauliflower, sour cherry and brown butter sauce. The poblano blanco was another delight. As you can see we small plated our way through the menu. We tried their 2 desserts, scoop of ice cream and the chocolate semifreddo. What a treat!

Despite the usual stereotype of museum cafes selling overpriced coffee and stale pastries (no, just me?) Marisol quickly dispels these potential preconceptions of artistic pretentiousness (although it is indeed quite nicely decorated!). My friends and I came for an early brunch on a Saturday, and we were warmly greeted and promptly seated by the welcoming front of house. I ordered the breakfast sandwich - at first I was a little hesitant, since it seemed like a very generic (even boring) option, but I'm really glad I did! The bread was very fluffy and tasty, and I was pleased with the quality of the cheese, egg, and sausage. Very tasty overall, and definitely would recommend this. One of my friends ordered the french toast - also delicious! The toast was light and perfectly sweet (but not too much), and the nice touch of toppings like diced pears added a very interesting texture and flavour. She ultimately was too full to finish, so I didn't hesitate to help wolf down the leftovers :) We also got the salmon tartine, which was surprisingly refreshing. The focaccia tasted fresh and complemented the yummy salmon and cucumbers really well. Portion size for this was also better than I expected.Overall a great meal - don't be intimidated by the fact that it's in a fancy schmancy art museum. I'd love to come again soon!
Be the first to ReplyReally nice place downstairs in Museum of Contemporary Art
Really nice place downstairs in Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA). Good selection of coffee and other beverages, including alcohol. A lot of space, nice breakfast menu. The service is fast evens during the weekend.
Be the first to ReplyHeads up- this restaurant is in the lower lobby of the MCA.
It's not really separated from the crowd. We went here for lunch during restaurant week but weren't that impressed by the menu. So we opted for the normal menu. I got the Panzanella salad and my friends got the BLT and Ham+Cheese. All of them looked sooo yummy. The service was great. And even though it's close to the loud people in the lobby, the ambiance was very cool sleuth interesting line art on the walls.

I ordered the salad for lunch out of virtue, not because I was expecting anything particularly great, but say hello to a really good salad. A huge pile of little gems with a nice dressing and some grated cheese (I couldn't really detect the dill, nuts, apples, etc. but let's just assume they were adding character). The chicken breast was nothing special, but warm, tender, and well-cooked which is more than you can sometimes say for this kind of thing. I wouldn't drive across town for it, but I would definitely come back for that salad if I was nearby.
Be the first to ReplyThe best brunch I have ever had.
The pistachio and matcha french toast is such a unique breakfast item, and it was so delicious! Highly recommend - it's not too sweet. I enjoyed the breakfast sandwich even more, which is surprising for me because I tend to gravitate towards sweeter breakfast foods. It was so cheesy and the sweet jelly complimented well with the sausage and eggs. Service was crazy fast, just took a while for people to stop by with water.
Be the first to ReplyI have read numerous blogs and reviews highlighting this
I have read numerous blogs and reviews highlighting this place and recently had a chance to visit Marisol with a friend for brunch. The location is perfect situated off Michigan avenue in the Museum of Contemporary Arts. First thing I noticed that even though there were better tables available, they seated us in the middle where several tables were occupied and we were in the way of servers. Even though we requested to change the table, we were told they were reserved. However, these tables didnt get occupied until we left. My friend and I got the sunflower hummus and beignets to share. We loved the sunflower hummus and the crispy wafer with pumpkin seeds - a very healthy and tasty combination. The beignets were more dense and not as light and fluffy as they ought to have been though the expresso sauce that it came with was very flavorful. We also got the Rosella herbal and Saigon herbal tea on the recommendation of our server and both the teas were awesome! For entree, I got the Lomo scramble and my friend got a tofu scramble. The Lomo scramble was a good portion and came with a side of crispy potatoes. It was decent but nothing memorable. Throughout our time there, our waitress kept checking on us to rush us out even though all the tables weren't occupied and no one was waiting. Overall I liked the food and service but didn't feel it was a premium experience as reflected by the prices.
Be the first to ReplyA hot mess for a group of 6.
Long wait to get served and also a long wait for the food to come out once ordered. They messed up our order (didn't know which salmon was more cooked, forgot to put something on the side, forgot a drink order). Food itself was okay but a bit subpar. Really enjoyed the hummus (especially with the cracker) though!
Be the first to ReplyThe food is a 4 or 5.
The service is a 1. They said they didn't know anything about validation in the parking garage that is advertised on their website. They left it at that. We had to ask them to follow up with a manager to provide clarity. They said they accept cash, but don't accept a 100 dollar bill. That is odd. There was a little attitude in my opinion. They said they work for the restaurant, not for the museum. Im not sure the relevance of this comment as the restaurant is in the museum. Overall it was just an uncomfortable experience entirely due to the service. Improve the service and maybe it's a 4 or 5.For now it's a 2. I expect a lot more from a restaurant of this caliber. Thanks for an almost okay experience.

Do you go to MCA for the art, well you also have to go for the food. Marisol to start with had excellent service. Ordered the pancakes, sausage and a fruit bowl. The pancakes were light and fluffy with a cinnamon butter that was a great accent to the smoothness of the pancake.

cute restaurant on the ground floor of the museum of contemporary art (MCA), the entrance is to the left of the main MCA entrance.Nice ambient with creative paintings. Not too crowded on a Saturday, perfect to grab something during lunch time while browsing MCA.The food taste good, but portion is a bit small. We liked the breakfast burrito, though it has a bit too much carb in there (there was a HUGE piece of potato). The lomo scramble as well as the cilber are good too

Marisol is located on the ground level of the Museum of Contemporary Art. The space invites a connection to the building function through fanciful wall illustrations that had been commissioned to contemporary British artist Chris Ofili. It is a convenient location to take a break with a light meal and refreshing drink while visiting the museum or shopping on North Michigan Avenue. Counter service with limited takeaway items is also available at the restaurant's entrance. Although this was my first encounter with Marisol, past reviews suggest it was a beloved spot before the pandemic and only reopened recently after two years. Hopefully it will make its way back to where it had been next time I visit Chicago.

Cute restaurant on the lower level of the Museum of Contemporary Art. Went during the lunch hour, without a reservation and had no issues being seated promptly. Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable. He answered all our questions about the menu and even suggested that I get the chickpea salad instead of regular salad which I loved! Apparently I enjoyed my food so much I remembered to photograph it after I ate it all lol. I had a turkey sandwich which I would highly recommend. It had green apple slices which added a nice sweetness. Sometimes turkey sandwiches can be dry, but that was not the case at all. The chickpea side salad had little chunks of mango and was pleasantly refreshing.
