MARKET Restaurant + Bar Del Mar Reviews from The Last Year

Wow. Have not had a dining experience this good in a long time. Food was fabulous and our server, Grady, was unbelievable. He must have been good because I remember his name! And the ambience was perfect. We could easily have a conversation and didn't feel rushed. I have already recommended this place to several people.

The only reason we found this restaurant was because it was on San Diego's top 2024 restaurant list! Awesome ambiance , meal and service. This will be added to our fav restaurants and are looking to visit frequently. Everything we ordered was delicious. Added the wine pairing -definitely worth it! We'll be back. Thank you Lila for the excellent service!
Best sushi and drinks.
The bar area is pretty small but cozy. Very expensive. Valet parking only. A neighborhood gem

I'm a bit biased about Market because my cousin, Carl Schroeder is owner & executive chef of the restaurant. Even though he's my family, his food & presentation is top notch! I'm so proud of him & what he worked so hard to accomplish. This is decades of serious dedication & incredible hard work! Carl was doing the farm to table cuisine long before it became a trend. He gathers all his ingredients from locally sourced farms & fisheries the same day as dinner service! You can't get any fresher! Our entire family is incredibly proud of all his hard work & he's created a beautiful restaurant with beautiful food & drinks! This place is worth every penny & more, you won't regret going to Market for a mind blowing meal!

Regardless if you eat at the bar or the dining room- the food will be wonderful. I like to get a bar reservation when I'm in the mood for their unique sushi. I'm always treated to the freshest plates and epic service! The dining room is more limited. A three course dinner and an upscale atmosphere. You really can't go wrong. The Market is a place I frequent regularly.
The food was really good, super premium quality.
You can tell the chef is excellent. You pay $75 per person here for a 3 course meal, that is how they operate at this restaurant, and cocktails are $20. So you would be paying around $100 per adult when you come here. They offer kids menu but it's around $25 for just the plate of food. Again, really premium food. This restaurant is pricey but worth it! The atmosphere of the restaurant, the service, etc, it's all 5 stars. We went to celebrate my birthday and they put a candle on my dessert, love it! Looking forward to go back!

Wow!!!! Valet service, full bar, low lighting, unpretentious, knowledgeable staff, and the most important part......the food!! You pay for all courses- so no sharing! Come hungry! We ordered Bacon salad- beautiful packed egg and the bacon was like European speck. The vinaigrette was light and perfect. Mushroom truffle soup- hubby said it was a tad heavy for him but enjoyed the flavor Beef short ribs - perfect tenderness and complimentary flavors Eggplant Parmesan with truffle tortellini- hubby said he couldn't taste eggplant flavor enough, but he said it was still really good Lemon soufflé- if I only came for this, I would be a happy woman, delicious! The ambiance and the intimate, clean, beautiful setting is what had me. It feels warm and cool at the same time, kind of like putting on icy hot- but in restaurant form! Haha! Enjoy!
This one of our neighborhood favorites.
No detail goes unnoticed or unappreciated. Menu, quality food and cocktails.
The service is amazing and the food is delicious.
Have been here multiple times and every time walk out more satisfied and amazed by the service and food. Can't recommend it enough.
Went here with a group of friends this past weekend.
Food, service, and ambiance were top-notch. Wonderful dining experience was had by all of us. I highly recommend you try them out.
Overprices
I would say 3 1/2 stars. Three courses, very expensive, waiter was really full of himself and we spent a lot of time listening to him telling us about him. I’m patient but honestly, come on, dude. It was plated beautifully. We spent $700 including tip for 4 once we paid the tip and the extra 4.5% for increases for staff which i think is dumb. Just include it in the price already. Of course we drink wine so that isn’t cheap but way overvalued. I wouldn’t return.
Top notch -- worth every penny
Would give this restaurant 6 stars if I could. One of the best meals we've had in years. It was like dining at a Michelin restaurant in a European city (which, as everyone who lives in San Diego knows, is quite hard to find in San Diego, even at the pricier restaurants with top reviews). We are big-time foodies, one of us with San Francisco roots, and have been lucky enough to dine out in the major cities in the U.S. and abroad). Our standards are high, and very few restaurants in San Diego knock our socks off. This one did. I don't even know where to start. There were 4 of us and we're still talking about it the next day. We shared all our dishes, so we were able to try a total of 12 menu items (between the starters, entrees and dessert), and there were also 2 "amuse-bouche". Every single thing we put in our mouth was delicious. They clearly use the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Each dish was prepared with tremendous skill, passion and creativity. What we loved most is this chef obviously knows exactly what he is doing and lets the food speak for itself instead of trying too hard and covering up the natural flavors with too much pomp and circumstance. One of the things we've noticed with top restaurants (even with some of the Michelin star restaurants) is they try so hard to be "different" and "ultra-creative" that they opt for form over substance, and flavor suffers. Not here. It felt like the entire focus at this restaurant is on flavor and making each dish utterly delicious and memorable. What we experienced was one dish after another containing a delicate and creative mix of ingredients that allowed the natural flavors to compliment and showcase each other. The presentation of each plate was gorgeous too, without sacrificing taste. Another way it felt like a top European restaurant was the level of service. The large service staff worked seamlessly in tandem, anticipated our every need, were knowledgeable about the menu, made excellent recommendations, and without fail each and every one of them (even the people clearing our plates and refilling our glasses) were warm and friendly and very attentive. You can tell when the staff is invested in the restaurant and cares about your dining experience just as much as the chef. (Our server named Mike was friendly, engaging and highly professional. Every tip he gave us throughout the ordering was right on target, and he felt like an old friend by the time we finished the meal.) Other pluses: The restaurant is elegant and well-designed, with very comfortable chairs, thoughtful table placement, and well-planned acoustics such that noise didn't carry. Even the person at our table who has trouble hearing had no difficultly hearing everyone throughout the dinner -- and this was on a Friday night when the restaurant was packed. Also, the portions were large (so large that they kindly gave us to-go boxes and we're excited to have the leftovers for lunch today.) All of us give this restaurant our unreserved highest recommendation. It's worth every penny. A night and a meal we will never forget.
Elegance in Del Mar
We had an outstanding dinner at this fine restaurant. The menu was fixed, but there were numerous choices within the appetizer, entrée, and dessert categories. Our meals were delicious, as was the martini I enjoyed before dinner. The service was excellent, and I enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. Market is expensive, and for me, it is a special occasion kind of restaurant.
Solo dinner was a pleasure - phenomenal food paired with attentive service.
Solo dinner. Wonderful food, service attentive & swift. Tuna tartare appetizer, main was sole with purée & pea shoots, broccolini. Chocolate mousse was light & a perfect ending for the meal.
Must go! Super tasty!
We dine here every time we are in San Diego. The food is truly spectacular, every ingredient adds flavor to the dish. Everything is expertly coupled, making dinner tasty, excellent and light. A restaurant not to be missed. Definitely worth trying. August 2023 we had: corn soup (delicious), Tuna tartare (excellent and light), Halibut (spectacular and abundant), 2 tiramisu (differrent from Italian tiramisu, but really excellent). Super bread, even the corn one. We asked for more bread, being Italian bread eaters :-) Impeccable service. Nice and intimate atmosphere. Also recommended for special or business dinners, it certainly makes a good impression to bring someone to dinner here!

I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

You should probably cancel prior to the cancellation date per the cancellation policy. I would imagine you would only get reimbursed for a sold listing if you happen to be charged?

My first sale took about a week. But as the other commenter said stay ontop of your cancellation windows. There’s no reimbursement for those so make sure you cancel in time then just try again.
