Wow. Have not had a dining experience this good in a long time. Food was fabulous and our server, Grady, was unbelievable. He must have been good because I remember his name! And the ambience was perfect. We could easily have a conversation and didn't feel rushed. I have already recommended this place to several people.

The only reason we found this restaurant was because it was on San Diego's top 2024 restaurant list! Awesome ambiance , meal and service. This will be added to our fav restaurants and are looking to visit frequently. Everything we ordered was delicious. Added the wine pairing -definitely worth it! We'll be back. Thank you Lila for the excellent service!

The bar area is pretty small but cozy. Very expensive. Valet parking only. A neighborhood gem

I'm a bit biased about Market because my cousin, Carl Schroeder is owner & executive chef of the restaurant. Even though he's my family, his food & presentation is top notch! I'm so proud of him & what he worked so hard to accomplish. This is decades of serious dedication & incredible hard work! Carl was doing the farm to table cuisine long before it became a trend. He gathers all his ingredients from locally sourced farms & fisheries the same day as dinner service! You can't get any fresher! Our entire family is incredibly proud of all his hard work & he's created a beautiful restaurant with beautiful food & drinks! This place is worth every penny & more, you won't regret going to Market for a mind blowing meal!

Regardless if you eat at the bar or the dining room- the food will be wonderful. I like to get a bar reservation when I'm in the mood for their unique sushi. I'm always treated to the freshest plates and epic service! The dining room is more limited. A three course dinner and an upscale atmosphere. You really can't go wrong. The Market is a place I frequent regularly.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was really good, super premium quality.
You can tell the chef is excellent. You pay $75 per person here for a 3 course meal, that is how they operate at this restaurant, and cocktails are $20. So you would be paying around $100 per adult when you come here. They offer kids menu but it's around $25 for just the plate of food. Again, really premium food. This restaurant is pricey but worth it! The atmosphere of the restaurant, the service, etc, it's all 5 stars. We went to celebrate my birthday and they put a candle on my dessert, love it! Looking forward to go back!

Wow!!!! Valet service, full bar, low lighting, unpretentious, knowledgeable staff, and the most important part......the food!! You pay for all courses- so no sharing! Come hungry! We ordered Bacon salad- beautiful packed egg and the bacon was like European speck. The vinaigrette was light and perfect. Mushroom truffle soup- hubby said it was a tad heavy for him but enjoyed the flavor Beef short ribs - perfect tenderness and complimentary flavors Eggplant Parmesan with truffle tortellini- hubby said he couldn't taste eggplant flavor enough, but he said it was still really good Lemon soufflé- if I only came for this, I would be a happy woman, delicious! The ambiance and the intimate, clean, beautiful setting is what had me. It feels warm and cool at the same time, kind of like putting on icy hot- but in restaurant form! Haha! Enjoy!

Be the first to ReplyFinally had dinner at Market.
It's very close to the house, drive by it all the time, have heard great things about the food. Made a reservation on my wife's birthday and the hostess acknowledged that and made a little small talk when we checked in. Friendly and warm start to our experience. The setting is very nice; tasteful, not too light, just right. Despite an open floor plan, Market is not a loud restaurant at all. You can come here to listen to your party talk. Then it started. Waiter envy. Near our table was Spencer, an enthusiastic and veteran server who ran rings around our own assigned and disappointing guide to our evening. Our waiter: "Well, everything on the menu is very good." Spencer: "Have you dined with us before? I'd be happy to take you through our menu if you'd like?"Our waiter: "There aren't any signature dishes." Spencer: "We're known for our __________ and __________. And we can also do a filet mignon as an entree tonight for an extra charge. Our waiter never told us about the filet option -- my wife's favorite. Or other interesting supplements to the prix fixe.Never offered assistance with my wine selection even though I was trying to decide what would go well with my sea bass. Never asked if I'd like another glass of wine. Didn't come by after our entrees were served to make sure my wife's beef tenderloin (medium) was cooked to her liking. Or how I liked my meal, or any basic good service inquiries. Before, during, after dessert, never asked if we'd like coffee, a cappuccino, or a dessert drink with our sweet things. See what I mean? Waiter envy. My wife's birthday deserved Spencer, but we got anonymous minimal effort, Burger King service. Thus, 4 stars instead of 5. Sorry Market. Must ensure all your wait staff is as good as your food when a bill for 2 is around $300 conservatively. Food, terrific. Really fresh, well prepared, wonderful. Solid 5. We'll be back soon and will ask for Spencer's section when we return.

Food was amazing! One of the best apps I've had (salmon) and then the spare ribs were spot on. Initially I thought the portions were going to be too small when I came in starving but as the night went on it ended up being the perfect amount of food.

Absolutely fantastic evening! I was a bit speculative as the restaurant looks as if it is in a office building but the ambiance inside is wonderful. Dimly lit old timey romantic feeling with beautiful light fixtures and cocktail glasses. The tasting menu was wonderful and each dish really stood out on its own! The tartare tasted incredibly fresh, the Gorgonzola soufflé was to die for, the swordfish was light yet juicy (easy to end up with dry swordfish, very impressed), the braised short ribs had a glaze on them that still makes my mouth water, and the Thai tea sundae had the most delicious caramelized banana on it. Can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyFood and service are top notch.
My coworkers brother runs this establishment so it's always nice to head over to support the business. Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Menu changes but is always fresh and tasty. The valet is a nice touch but since the parking lot is so small, I'm not quite sure it's totally necessary. Still, use the service, get treated well, and make sure you tip well!
Be the first to ReplyA very talented chef and beautiful ambiance.
The salads are delicious and the fish is prepared expertly. A great date spot however, many local people return regularly

Be the first to ReplyFirst of all, I love the look of this restaurant! The light
First of all, I love the look of this restaurant! The light fixtures, wallpaper in the dining room and total look is very cool! Service was excellent... but now for the best part... cocktails and food! Various Tequila cocktails were loved by all! There were 4 of us and each ordered different appetizers and entrees so we could sample each others. The Amuse-Bouche from the chef was unbelievable!!! I could have eaten that for my meal and died happy- the crostini it was served on was so crispy & light but the "basically deviled egg" serving topped with Salmon Roe was unbelievable! For the first course the 4 of us ordered the Cauliflower Soup- excellent, Lobster Garlic Shrimp Soup- amazing, just perfectly seasoned. Wonderful flavor. Hamachi Crudo was top notch! So lovely. Finally, the Grapefruit-Avacado Salad was soooo good! The Pistachios added great flavor and crunch and the simple dressing was very delicious! The Entree's consisted of Swordfish which was excellent (but the portion was very small) cooked perfectly though. The Cabernet braised Short Ribs were some of the best I have ever had, but again the portion was very small! Don't get me wrong, no one left feeling anything close to hungry!!! But, the portion size for both the Lamb Chops & Tortellini were both the serving size that one would expect- both delicious by the way. Desserts were 2 + 2... Passionfruit Pavlova with Olive Oil Cake as well as Thai Tea Sundaes. We did not have the wine flight because the cocktails as well as a very nice Tequila over ice were drunk throughout dinner. There was one glass of wine, a Grgich Cab which is always excellent. Over all, a fantastic evening and I can't wait to go back!

... This place has not lost it's touch. My team and I had the pleasure of doing our annual Holiday | New Year dinner at Market this week, and it far exceeded all of our expectations. Now, most of my group are no strangers to Market, but we brought down the rest of our group from Orange County who had never been. We bought out the Private Dining Room for 12 of us, and from beginning to end, Market stepped up and dinner was simply exceptional. We even noticed that Market continues to add and change things in the dining room to improve the esthetic, and it certainly shows. We couldn't have had a better experience. Thank you Market for always going above and beyond..

Came here for a 2 year anniversary dinner with my love last night and we had such a lovely experience. Spencer was our server and he was incredibly attentive, fun and confident in guiding us through our dining experience. The restaurant itself exudes a moody, dimly lit atmosphere that I can get down with for a fancy night out. I had the passiflora vodka cocktail with a beauitful passionfruit foam on top that was to die for and so gorgeous. Next I decided to keep it basic in the wine department and after a nice blind taste test from our waiter I decided on a glass of Pinot to accompany my dinner. The food? Freaking phenomenal. From appetizer to dessert, to bread and amuse bouche, this was one happy lady. As someone who works in the culinary world myself, I was just in complete awe of how beauitfully balanced all of the flavors and textures were in each dish. And honestly the one that surprised me the most was the fig salad! I was skeptical when I saw it come out, but I truly wasn't ready for how much flavor the chef was able to shove into this dish. Overall, beyond pleased. Thank you, Market for having us!
Be the first to ReplyThis is the first time I am rating the Market below 5 stars
This is the first time I am rating the Market below 5 stars and I want the owner-chef to know why. The food is still exceptional, however I have three concerns. First, I do not usually have a dessert with my meal for a variety of reasons. Before Covid, all dishes were ala carte. Because Market now has a three course menu, dessert is mandatory. I liked ala carte alot better. Second, there are now only 5 choices for entrees. Pre-covid, we could count on at least 6 or more, including my all time favorite, miso glazed black cod. Third, while I recognize food and labor costs have gone up, the prix fixe price has gone up to $78 (after it was $75 when I booked the reservation). What I really object to is tacking on a 4% "surcharge" to the menu price plus the cost of any wine or drink purchases. It is ticky tack for a fine dining restaurant, and it is not like you have to print a new menu with increased prices since there is a single price for all the dishes with the three course tasting menu. I hope Market returns to its pre-covid ala carte menu and I will go there more often.
Be the first to ReplyI chose this restaurant to celebrate my six year
I chose this restaurant to celebrate my six year anniversary with my wife. The interior reflects a slightly older architectural feel. The lighting is dim with well spaced tables but gives off a classy feel. Very reminiscent of older steakhouses. This is not your modern day restaurant with a lot of mirrors and glass and noise reverberating off the ceiling. The attire is dressy and service is both professional and on point. On this night, the restaurant featured a three course tasting menu. For our starters we chose the crispy tempura soft shell crab & fideo noodle salad and Hamachi tartar & sesame nori crackers. These starters were exceptional. The flavors from both dishes were so perfectly matched. The taste of both the crab and Hamachi were not sacrificed but rather enhanced by the sweet & sour plums, watermelon, Napa cabbage and Yuzu Aioli. We loved both these starters. Next, for our entrees we chose the grilled beef tenderloin & Cherokee purple tomatoes and bigeye Ahi tuna & XO roasted eggplant. The beef tenderloin was cooked perfect. Tender and moist on the inside with a little char on the outside. The tuna was delicious and the roasted eggplant was a perfect complement. Again both dishes did not disappoint. Lastly, our two desserts were the black forest profiterole and the chocolate cake. Both yummy. We enjoyed two nice cocktails along our meal. Our server was very professional and welcoming. The one area that could be improved upon is the view since the restaurant feels a bit boxed in. I like a more open feel and preferably with some glass and natural light. All in all, a terrific meal and experience.Btw...also got to meet Steve Kerr (coach of the Golden State Warriors and former teammate of Michael Jordan) which does not happen everyday.

What is when we went there after a lovely night betting on the ponies... The host has told us to go to the bar and try to find a table. Then shortly after both the waitress and the manager were awful and snotty and inappropriate with us because they said they were to capacity and could not have us. They refused our service. I've never felt so offended by a manager. We too are in the restaurant and the manager couldn't have been more snooty and inconsiderate. She threw the menu at my friend. Never again will we support the management at this restaurant!!!!
