Get Your NYC French Swagger Here
This a usual “go to” restaurant for us when we visit NYC. The food is good as is the customer service. I like the swanky NY French vibe and it is so close to the theater district. I recommend this place. You can be dressed up or come casually attired.
Be the first to ReplyDecent French bistro
Our experience at Marseilles was generally positive but not all dishes were on par so that’s why I gave it 4 stars. The menu is typical French bistro so don’t expect anything adventurous. Service was friendly and fast.

Charming and welcoming atmosphere, good cuisine - except for the overly dry salmon - the staff is very courteous, and I recommend coming in the evening when the atmosphere is more joyful.

Fabulous and fun brunch. We sat at the bar and had outstanding service from Amber. She was attentive, adorable and very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. All in all, an excellent experience!

Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and delicious food
Excellent service from the moment they receive you, the waitress who served us (Erika) was an extremely pleasant and attentive person at all times, she gave us very accurate recommendations - delicious food and we had a great time. Absolutely everything we tried was exquisite.
Be the first to ReplyGood option near Broadway
The food is delicious and it's a good option for a post-musical break, as it's open until a little later. The onion soup is an excellent choice and the steak and fries were also very tasty. The cuisine is focused on French cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch
Despite it being New Years Eve and a lot of preparation going on around us, we had a superb lunch, with good wine. Only negative was the cheeseboard which is a bit sparse!!!
Be the first to ReplyTo avoid on a party evening
We were looking forward to being able to eat something other than hamburgers on New Year's Eve. Unfortunately this evening did not live up to our expectations. The chef, if he is French, should review his basics. My husband ordered halibut, he had to eat pork chop Milanese. For the Orange duck, the Orange had disappeared.. The food is equivalent to that of a canteen. We waited over 20 minutes for the bottle of wine ordered. On the other hand, the bill arrived very quickly without being able to order coffees. The single rate for a party night is a good proposition, but it is not possible to charge $65 for party service fees and also ask for tips. Only the brasserie-style setting is nice. Place to avoid on a party night.

Food was good. Drinks were good. Service was good. Nothing worth 5 stars, but nothing wrong either. I’d probably go back when in the area, but not going out of my way either. Probably would’ve been happier with one last bottomless mimosa before we headed out, but it is what it is & there is a clearly stated 90min limit. Overall, it was good. Give it a try, but don’t go terribly out of your way.
Be the first to ReplyFun bistro, even for vegetarians
A before theater dinner with a group of six. Friendly service and good food. The onion soup was as expected -- wonderful. The mushroom risotto surprisingly good. The small bouillabaisse was sufficient for a main dish. Several vegetarian dishes are well prepared. Upon entering, we mentioned our theater time and the dinner flowed to get us out on time.

Nice French style restaurant on 8th Avenue. Gets crowded at times. So it's not really intimate. Has a separate bar area, which is good for singles and less formal couples. They offer a brunch special but you have to consume within 90 minutes. But wolfing down French eats is not my style. So we came for dinner. I like the menu but it's much more expensive than lunch. We had trout, poulet, salad, pate, and delicious deserts. Wine list is good. You used to be able to dine here late after the shows. But it seems that they have curtailed their hours some.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Choice before or after the Theater
Been here a number of times and never had a bad meal. In fact, it is likely the best restaurant in the theater district. The lamb, onion soup, fish, salads, all good. It is in a beautiful deco space. They stay open late. Cocktails are well done.
Be the first to ReplyCold on the Patio for Xmas Pre-fixe
Made a reservation for Marseille on Christmas Day for 2 - didn’t specify seating and was seated outdoors at a table with an overhead heat lamp. It was about 18 degrees out, so it was chilly despite wearing a coat, thick socks, and winter boots. We had a couple of the Xmas Pre-fixe meals - I had the lobster bisque (pretty good, decent-sized chunks of lobster meat), the turkey ballottine (turkey was juicy, the vegetables well cooked, and the sauce was tasty), and ended with the apple streusel (not so great). We had a couple of cocktails - I had the hot chocolate (with alcohol) - very smooth and great to have a hot beverage being so cold outside. Service (- 1 star) - was okay - there was one server and one assistant servicing the entire outside seating area (there were about 15 people sitting outside)….they probably needed more staffing. Turnover was slow - service was friendly but they were slow to move from course to course. You would think they would keep an eye on outdoor diners, with it being so cold, to get courses out faster. Overall - food was good, service was meh, would I come again and give them another try? Sure…but indoors!
Be the first to ReplyAlright food but outside means outside, even in -10oC
Food was okay but cold by the time it reached our table with the disgusting aroma of people smoking weed nearby, still expected to pay the same as those paying to be in the warmth of the restaurant without such smells.
Be the first to ReplyNot very accommodating, but ended up okay.
We had a dinner reservation here at 5 PM on a theater night they show at 7 PM. Due to unbelievable December holiday traffic, we arrived except 5:17 PM, two minutes past the 15 minutes grace period, and our table had already been given away. We were as courteous and kind in acknowledging that we were late. But our kindness was not acknowledged were rewarded with a response of sorry "can't help you." We were provided no option for a table. We were however able to secure two seats the very end of the bar. While less than desirable, this ended up being okay. The food and bar service was quite good; but I would say that my review and ratings is muted because we felt so unwelcome after arriving a few minutes late.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent French Bistro
Booked same day, table right in middle of restaurant, food excellent, prices also reasonable for food and drinks. Excellent wine list + also well priced unlike many places close by that trade on their location.
Be the first to ReplyGood but could be better
We recently dined at this restaurant with friends. We had a mixed experience, some of the food was delicious some not soo much. It’s probably a little overpriced in truth and for this reason we left a reduced tip. The thing that ruined the experience was the staff at the end of the meal. After paying the bill we left a tip this however wasn’t enough for the staff at this restaurant to our amazement. The waiter in fact called over his manager to discuss with us why we hadn’t left a bigger tip. We all couldn’t believe the damn right cheek of the man and left immediately.
Be the first to ReplyNice find near Theater District
This is pretty convenient to the theatre district and we had a lovely dinner here. Although we dined outside, the dining room is charming and I look forward to eating in it post Covid. The food was good. The goat tart appetizer not warm enough but enjoyed greatly. The duck and skate grenobloise were big hits. My chicken was not as crisp or tasty as it should have been and the Rosti potatoes were likewise lacking in the desired crunch. The dessert was excellent. The ice cream and sorbet were incredibly good tasting. We had a bottle of Turley which was so fairly priced that the sommelier and I chatted about it. Actually the extensive wine list is so well priced for NYC you could really call it a bargain.
All in all a great spot for dining near the theatre district and I recommend highly.
Slow
We went for brunch before a Saturday matinee. This is another theatre district place that is slammed with customers early and takes way too long to give you your fairly uncomplicated brunch order. They have outside seating and we reserved it, but then they didn't have outside tables available when we checked in. My omlette was fine but not worth the 50 minute wait. Skip it.

Lovely little French bistro. Decent service, though rushed when crowded. Good hummus and branzino. Tables a bit cramped.

Post theatre dinner for 10.30 but we were late. Pressure to order quickly (fair enough) and we did. But why did the servers grab our appetizers before we were done? Fish well over cooked.
Be the first to ReplyElegant place and Excellent Food
Nice ambiance and the Food was excellent! The octopus and the steak frites were awesome! My friends had the bouillabaisse and were very pleased as well!
Be the first to ReplyVery busy pre theater. Great location relative to Broadway. Make a reservation for sure.
Sort of classical french food near the theater district so the place empties out about half an hour before curtain time. Nice menu and good service.

Perfectly lovely restaurant that was recommended to us. Didn’t do any wrong, however the lack of bonus stars tells you that it did not do enough to separate it from another lovely restaurant. Going the extra mile makes a difference to visitors from out of town. I’d still recommend it to others though.🙂
